Discussion Letting users remove posts.
Hello everyone,
As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.
Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.
When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)
This will work for posts only, not for comments.
There are some things to keep in mind:
When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.
Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.
We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.
That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.
Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.
Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.
Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.
Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.
Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.
We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.
Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

Mourning/Loss My little girl Mona crossed the bridge last night.
I was never a cat person. My wife and I already had two cats when she saw Mona at an adoption event. We were told she had an autoimmune disease and would need medicine daily for life. They also said she never came out of her cage and just slept all day. I had no desire to deal with all that, but my wife just had to save her.
It took less than a day for her to choose me as her person. Then she changed my life. She showed me how to be a cat dad and showed me so much love that I didn't know was possible. I now have great loving relationships with both our other cats. I give Mona all the credit for that. We only got 5 years with her, it's never long enough but damnit 5 years is nothing. I'll never forget her and she will be in my heart forever.

Stories My cat was misgendered
This sweet baby came onto my porch demanding food roughly 2 months ago. We got her to the vet for checks and vaccines multiple times, did bloodwork, checked body temperature, the works.
I asked the vet if my cat is a girl or a boy, told the vet that the cat is a stray and I don’t know its background. I got reassured that she’s a girl, so we finally scheduled her to get a spay. We got her inside for the night, fasted her, prepared everything carefully for our little princess, brought her in and waited anxiously at home for the call to go collect her.
The surgeon personally called me, asked for my name, confirmed that she’s my cat, told me that something happened, it sometimes happens and he’s sorry. I got so anxious I was sweating and trembling thinking that my cat didn’t make it, but I got told that my little princess is in fact a prince. Turns out he was neutered as a kitten and has a very small wee wee.
I am still recovering after 2 days, and my poor little guy got a full abdominal surgery he didn’t need and I feel so guilty. I had my suspicions and looked at his face multiple times thinking he looks like a boy, but ultimately trusted the vet. He doesn’t like it inside and cries so much for the outdoors life and he has to be kept prisoner because of a surgery he didn’t need.
Beyond shock, I feel just so sad for him. I feel so guilt. Let this be your sign to double check if you have doubts and listen to your gut.
TL;DR: The stray cat that landed on my porch was pronounced female by the vet, took her for a spay, the abdominal surgery revealed he’s in fact a neutered male.

Mourning/Loss My sweet girl got diagnosed with cancer yesterday
This is Brie, our beautiful girl. Yesterday she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Her mom and I are so heartbroken. She’s with us now but we don’t really know how much time she has left. She’s the sweetest girl and she’s only four. She has two brothers, Queso (actual brother from the same litter) and Ricotta (we call him Rick) pictured in the last slide. Anything would be helpful right now, just wanted to show our sweet angel girl so everyone can appreciate her.

Cat Picture - OC My cat is my best friend and my reason to get up in the morning and keep going.
Just wanted to share my "little" old lady Puddles Abigale Lee (12), with my cat people of reddit - as I'm not sure how much longer she's got.
I'm grateful for every second I have had with her, she's the sweetest, bestest girl in the world. We've been through everything together (job loss, breakup, pandemic, another job loss, displacement/homelessness, my ongoing medical issues) you name it she's been there with snuggles, purrs and kisses. Truly the best cat you could ask for.
Context: Her quality of life is good at the moment - outside of the cough (she needs medical treatment and money's tight cause I'm on disability but I am trying to save & have a G-F-M). Obviously, I will not let her suffer just wishing out loud she can keep in good health till I can get her treated. In hindsight I wish I had gotten pet insurance but them's the brakes I guess.
I am doing my best to get her help but feel guilty that circumstances can't be better.
That's all. No medical advise needed, just needed to thought dump. thanks.

Still no name but...she seems comfortable. I figured she'd hide from us for a bit but...nope.
Now my wife is pissed because it was her idea to adopt a cat and...guess who the cat seems to have picked to be their person lol
Want to know the craziest part? She jumped up and got comfy and of course...I immediately needed to pee. So I triiied my best to get up as gentle as possible, and when I came back..she jumped right back up and got comfy again. I have a bit of cat experience. Never seen that before in my life. Lol. Usually once your move even an inch, cuddle time is ooooover

Cat Picture - OC It’s my baby boy’s birthday! 🎂🎉
The last picture is of him the day I brought him home—only three months old and so tiny :’)) now he’s a big boy and I’m incredibly emotional. My little Achilles <33
Mourning/Loss About to adopt a shelter kitty who needed surgery. He didn’t make it.
We only visited him a couple times. He had been surrendered by a young lady who had bought him from a “breeder” (kitten mill). She couldn’t afford to keep up with how sick he was right away. He needed a very serious surgery on his inner ear after nonstop infections.
He was so sweet. An immediate love bug. Curious and adventurous when the shelter let us wander around the store rooms with him. He played. He gave us head butts. He got into some teenage-kitty mischief.
We wanted him to join our little family and he seemed to want to join ours.
The surgery was today. And it was long and there were complications. The vet surgeon tried twice to bring him back. Succeeded once, but then…
I know many people wouldn’t let themselves love a cat who wasn’t even theirs yet, a cat who was facing a serious surgery and might not make it. But he was just a special one. And I wanted to tell someone about him. The shelter called him Juranoid (they aim for unique names).
We are so sad he’s gone. But we hope he’s okay wherever he is.

Medical Questions New rescue kitten. Gave him a dewormer and a few days later he pooped out a dead one. NSFW
gallery4 month old kitten, based in the UK. All vaccinated and had a vet check up last week, they gave him a dewormer and we found this in his litter tray a few days later. Quite dead. About 10cm long spaghetti shaped. Looks like roundworm which the dewormer does cover.
Kitten appears happy and healthy and active with a good appetite. No sickness or diarrhea, no swollen belly or other apparent issues.
I’m assuming the dewormer has done its job and there’s no immediate concern?
Will email the vet later but unsure what their response time is.

Advice I can’t find him
What the title says. He is an indoor cat who has never taken any interest in the outdoors. I put his food out and he never leaves it uneaten. He has been missing for six hours and I am frantic. My place isn’t that big. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I love him so much.

Stories Me and wife helping this mommy cat take care of her kittens
We already have 2 kids at home here in Turkey but the cat near our home gave birth so we made her a small house behind our apartment to help them get through the winter . Our neighbors didn’t mind as well . We try to change their water and food every morning and their mom is pretty cool with us . We also live near the Aegean area so they wont worry about snow or extreme cold . Also thinking about bringing a vet here but idk if they’re mom would allow the vet to give her kittens shots

Mourning/Loss How can I deal with the loss of my cat
I apologize in advance for the long text but I need to vent a bit…
So
I’ve lost my girl after 14 days waiting for her…
The pain is hard to handle my heart hurts and I can’t imagine my life without her.
I keep thinking that she’s still hospitalized and that I’m going to get her in a few days. It’s unfair she’s wasn’t old, she was healthy, she brightened my life and was there at my lowest.
When I look at my other cat I feel so sorry for him too. They were always together and now he’s alone…
Wherever I look she’s not here…
The blender we used to throw so she can bring it to us and play all day
The plushies she took with her to our bed
The corner of the bathroom where she was always waiting for us to throw water to play when we showered (she loved water so much)
The blanket they were laying on together with her brother…
Everything reminds me of the fact she’s gone but I still don’t want to realize.
Trigger warning: I have to explain what happened and what she’s been through because she’s a real warrior.
- September 29: I took her to the vet because she wasn’t breathing well he said it was just a cold and that she would be fine in 2 days but the first vet was wrong. - October 1st: I had to bring her to an other clinic because she wasn’t moving, eating or anything. She survived a septic shock the first day.
Then had to fight a pyothorax infection and was put under oxygen.
- October 9: We practically lost her again because she had no more white blood cells not even one and no more protein left.
The vet told us it was the end and we had to prepare ourselves to tell her goodbye the next day…
- October 8: she recovered a few cells, the vet was hopeful so she told us she will do everything possible to keep her alive if she was still fighting.
she recovered more and more the next days.
- October 10:She was already better and was purring a lot. We started to feel like she was saved.
- October 12: the pyothorax officially lost and she could breath again without oxygen but she was still very weak.
- October 13: We visited her like every days and the vet told us that she would be able to leave in 2 days. So we left her saying “see you tomorrow” or something like that.
She felt asleep and never woke up…
- October 14: She was found dead by the vet without explanations, she said that she was too tired of all those weeks fighting and even if she won a lot of battles but lost the war…
We are proud to be your cat parents, we will always love you and hope you’ll find peace my princess. May we met again on the other side one day ♡

Advice Is it cruel to own a spray bottle for training a cat?
Carrot just LOVES charging cables/cords/extension cords. And i just recently went out and got a spray bottle that has a mist and a regular option. Is it okay to train carrot with this? It feels mean but she has learned fast that charging cords are not allowed but she still trys to eat my shoes and ear buds lol
Okay cord protectors seem to be the way to go! Or that Yuk stuff!
