I did it!

• Upvotes

A couple of weeks ago I posted that I was thinking of shaving my beard. Lots of you suggested that I trim it short instead.

This morning I stepped up to the mirror, fired up my clippers and went to work.

My wife is sleeping so she has no idea of what she'll find when she wakes up. She will either scream, faint or both. She hasn't seen me without my long beard in decades.

Thank you to those who suggested I trim instead of shave. At the time I wasn't thinking that if I shave it off I have to keep shaving every day. I'm too lazy for that!

Thanks again Reddit!

Roots&Co.Hair Clinic

My first impression upon entering the clinic is very relaxing and a calming ambiance and smells good as well. The staffs are smiling and accommodating. They let me signed a consent which is the protocol even if it is non invasive though which is good.Initially I was able to have a consultation done which is nice,to know better with my hair and scalp. Then the Signature Scalp and Laser Treatment was done plus there was a massage that relaxes me even more...worth the effort and money!

Food & Drinks What's a food from your country that's difficult to explain to a foreigner? 🌏🍜

Growing up in Malaysia, I sometimes wonder how I'd explain some of our local food to someone who's never tried it.

Take durian, for example. It's a fruit that some people absolutely love, while others think it smells like something that should never be eaten! 😂

And then there's roti canai with dhal or curry; a combination that might sound unusual to someone unfamiliar with it, but makes perfect sense to us.

What's a food from your country that might sound strange to outsiders but is absolutely delicious to you? Tell me what it is and how you'd describe it to someone trying it for the first time!

Just Chatting Crashing Out All Day

Gah.

Something traumatic happened to me the other night and so I've been unintentionally crashing out on everyone today.

It started this morning when I felt a high anxiety and I've been stressed all day to notice that it's out of character for me and likely trauma based..

I'm drained from the all day crash out and now I've come to repent. I would like to focus on lighter, more positive things.

Thoughts & Ideas I crave for depth in conversations

I'm kind of a person who enjoys a very deep and orchestrated conversation which revolves around the various aspects of life, starting from the minor changes that our eyes tend to notice to deep down what our alter ego says to ourselves. Apart from it I have found it very difficult to have someone in my life who can really reconcile my thoughts and have a great convo with.

Life Stories Accidentally Sent My “Personal” Google Search to a Family Friend I Call Brother 💀

Maybe this isn’t the right place to post this, but idk where else to go. 😭
So, I was in a certain mood and looking up some very personal things on Google when his message popped up. I read it from the notification and ignored it because I was busy typing.
I hit enter. Nothing happened. Strange.
So I retyped the whole thing and hit enter again. And then it hit me.
OH. MY. GOD. DID I JUST SEND THAT SOMEWHERE ELSE?
I opened his chat, and there it was. Blue tick and everything. 💀
I deleted it immediately and screamed into my pillow for a solid two minutes. Then I ChatGPT-ed my way out of the situation and sent “wrong chat, pls ignore” as casually as humanly possible, as if my heart wasn’t doing Olympic-level gymnastics.
He hasn’t messaged me since, and it’s SO DAMN AWKWARD. I’m also terrified he might have taken a screenshot or told someone about it.
How do you recover from something like this? Asking for someone who would very much like to change her identity and move to another country. 🥲

Just Chatting What's your spirit animal??

Mine is a racoon! I'm a bit crazy, very independent, chaotic, mischevious. I get compared to puck from midsommers night dream or chicken joe. I work as a paramedic. I have unorthodox beliefs, and am unique i'd like to think. I've travelled to 6/7 continents, have 3 degrees, done a lot of crazy shiz and have a big bucket list.

What's your spirit animal?

Thoughts & Ideas Does anyone else miss people they don’t actually want back in their life?

Sometimes I’ll randomly remember someone I used to be really close with, and for a moment I’ll miss them.
Not necessarily because I want to reconnect or because things ended badly. I just miss who we were back then. The conversations, the stupid jokes, the version of myself that existed around them.
It’s weird because I’m perfectly fine with those people not being part of my life anymore. I wouldn’t even know what to say if we met again.
I guess sometimes you can miss a chapter of your life without wanting to reread it.
Anyone else get that feeling?

Questions What are your thoughts regarding some of the cultural differences when it comes to being in a romantic relationship?

For example, certain cultures can be very subscribed to the idea of men and women not being able to maintain a platonic relationship. Some normalise the idea of cutting off exes when you enter a new relationship, and plenty are a lot less rigid or strict about any of the above. Why do you think these differences arise and what are your personal opinions on them?

Just Chatting What is the most beautiful or amazing thing you've seen?

When I was little, I saw baby birds hatching from their eggs. I just happened to peer into the nest the moment they were ready to hatch. I saw their little feet push apart the egg shells and their bodies emerge.

I happened to be playing outside with a little bird plushie. I loved birds! He was my imaginary friend. I held him up to the nest and said, "Hi! I'm Chickie. What's your name?" I was hoping the newborn birds would be comforted.

The whole thing really was magical. Sometimes I question whether it was real.

Just Chatting Good morning world

Good morning, everyone.

How’s everyone doing today? I woke up about two hours ago, it’s such a beautiful morning. The rains are finally back here in Kenya, and we’re expecting the El Niño rains soon. I love the fresh air and that smell of rain on dry ground. Although, I have a feeling we might soon be complaining about the very thing we’ve been waiting for .

Anyway, wherever you are in the world, what’s your morning looking like? Or if you’re heading to bed, are you falling asleep to the sound of rain, enjoying a quiet night, or still fighting sleep on your phone?

Thoughts & Ideas The undifferentiated relations

Research on social networks suggests a small inner circle, a wider band of friends, and a long tail of weak ties that quietly carry much of our information and belonging. Feeds flatten all of it. The few dozen people who watched you become who you are sit in the same stream as five hundred acquaintances. What if the problem isn't too much connection, but connection with no differentiating shape?

Just Chatting Whats your biggest life flex right now?

Mine would have to be that I can pay for groceries without having to mlook at my bank account. I think different stages in life allow us to flex in different ways. I'm curious what stage you are at and what flex has come with that stage for you.

Questions Why has time felt faster since 2020?

Ever since 2020, the years have felt like they are going by faster, and I know I’m not the only one experiencing this.

I have researched this question, and I keep getting the same answers: repetitive routines, aging (time feels shorter as you get older), and the fact that not many “new” things have happened since 2020.

Some of these reasons do not apply to me because I was under 10 in 2020, meaning I am still growing and learning, and I am not old at all.

What I’m trying to understand is why someone my age perceives time as passing faster, just as adults do. Are there any other reasons besides the ones I listed?

One more thing: will time ever slow down? I’ve read that practicing mindfulness and spending less time on screens can help, but I don’t mean “time slowing down” for just a few minutes. I mean that I want to go back to the way time felt before 2020 (yes, I remember it).

What's the exact moment you realized adulting is just being excited about household cleaning supplies?

Not gonna lie, the moment I felt like a true adult was when I started getting genuinely excited about buying new sponges and dish soap. Youth really does slip away one household chore at a time.

What's the exact item that instantly turned you from a carefree kid into someone who aggressively guards the good kitchen sponge?

Questions Who Would Win? 1940s Europe or 2026 Africa?

Just Chatting When did you stop believing in Santa Clause?

It was before I was 10 and waited for Santa to show up at midnight. I waited and waited and waited. No show. Nothing. I don't remember when I fell asleep but woke up to a pile of presents under the tree. I never believed in Santa after that night.

Movies & Shows Weird movie idea but what do you think?

This just came out of nowhere. Like.. I literally just came up from bed and out of the blue, I thought "What if there was a comedy series or movie where everyone just breaks the fourth wall???"

Like for example, Deadpool himself always breaks the fourth wall. Let's say marvel creates a movie with deadpool literally just transporting people in from outside the marvel universe. Then let's say he gathers Dwayne Johnson, Terry Crews, Kevin Hart, maybe even Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves or someone as random as Abel Tesfaye and they immediately know each other just by the movie characters they played as. Then they just do whatever shit they do. Not much acting, just pure chaos because of their personalities. I don't know. Maybe I'm high or what? But just imagine Ryan Reynolds telling Keanu Reeves "Oh wow. The "someone killed my dog so I killed everyone'" type of character. Very pure. Very vibrant. I like it. Meet our muscle men here, Rocky Dwayne, Mini Terry (Kevin Hart), and Big Terry". Lol.

Movies & Shows What is the max amount of pages that can be written for a spec script? I'm guessing 150 is not allowed?

Please let me know, anyone who has insight into screenwriting and what is acceptable for production companies to take. I'm eager to delve into my stories, but I want to get the facts straight before I pursue any screenwriting.
