Whether you're trying to make sense of Sanderson's works for the first time, feel you missed a memo on something, or want a bit of community assistance, this is the place for you.

We ask that folks label and spoiler tag anything relating to book content, and be extra mindful of the welcoming part of Rule 1. If you're not sure how to tag spoilers, see this post. And while you're welcome to ask "basic" questions here, you may find an answer in our FAQ.

Spoilers “Empire Now” (Hozier) feels almost written for the cinematic transition from Era 1 to Era 2 of Mistborn Spoiler

Spoilers for all of Mistborn Era 1 below. If you haven’t finished it, I’d stop here.

First time ever posting on Reddit (I believe?), so bear with me if I’m doing anything wrong.

If you haven’t heard the song, I’d recommend listening to it first and forming your own take before reading mine.

I’ve been listening to Hozier's music for a while, and a lot of his music I initially listened to had an ethereal, almost Fae quality. “Empire Now” hit me differently. It’s cinematic, with huge drums and a dark industrial kind of feel, but it still has that western-style twang behind it all. That blend alone feels like the two eras meeting.

The song itself is about a revolution against an empire: its martyrs, and the sun finally rising on the new world, the dream they made possible. Which to me feels much like the end of Era 1. The Final Empire falls, the ash clears, and Harmony remakes the world, with the Elendel Basin becoming a lush paradise. (It’s widely read/speculated as being about Irish independence from Britain, though I haven’t seen that confirmed.)

I can picture it over a montage: focusing initially on Spook, then widening out to the people and the land and civilization changing and growing over the centuries until we arrive at Elendel.

There’s also an undertone I love. To me, the song’s optimism feels almost too confident, and there is a subtle sadness to his voice. At least to my ears. Elendel, a world that's "easy" compared to the Final Empire. A beautiful, prettied-up place that believes everything will be fine now, with an unease underneath.

I say "Almost" only because the mention of 100 years, When 300 years has passed between the two eras, but I feel that can be forgiven or explained away as a passage of time.

I could break down the lyrics and how they connect in more depth, and may do that later in a comment if no one beats me to it. Let me know what you think though.

Hi Friends! I've been working on this previs project for the past year and I'm hoping it can reach Brandon Sanderson. This scene really resonated with me when I read Wind and Truth and I hope this makes yall feel the same way I did when I read it.

Ultimately, if this can make yall smile, then it was worth it :)

No Spoilers Can anyone name games that might be similar to War For Roshar?

I know that pretty much nobody has actually played the game, but based on the description, does anyone get an impression of similar games?

I have a lot of board games, but rarely play the longer ones. It's hard to justify $90 for a game a night not play more than a time or two. But if I can compare gameplay styles to other games I know, it might help me get a feel for whether I'll play it more than once or twice.

Unfortunately, the video and description ("epic asymmetric strategy game") aren't making an impact on my brain right now.

Edit: spelling

No Spoilers Anyone done a completist's guide to the RPG?

So after receiving the Mistborn set, I wanted to see if there was anything I was missing. I believe I've got most of it, but there's just so much that's been released, it's a nightmare to keep track of. And I'm not sure what's digital only or available physically.

So does anyone have a list of all available RPG products? Including supplements, one shots, STL files, minis, even the additions they did during the kickstarter like Thirsty Scholar and Middlefest in Urithiru.

No Spoilers Dragonsteel Leather Bound Elantris Paper Quality

i watched a Youtube video on how they make the Leatherbound books.
After the first book Elantris was released in 2015, they improved on the paper quality with the second book Mistborn. as they then used a different printer. They used a little heavier paper, smoother paper. However they said they missed the rounded spine from Elantris, as Mistborn had a more flat spine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTAJsMrwr7Q

The current Elantris being sold now is Second Edition Third Printing. Is this still same as the first production, or has the later edition/printing gotten the new and improved paper quality?

Still don't know whether I'll ever play this, but at the very least, I've got some more reading ahead of me, and it looks good on my shelf with the others.

No Spoilers Is there any update on Stormlight 4.5 (The Horneater novella)?

I know Brandon wanted to prioritize the Ghostbloods books and the Elantris sequel, but I'm curious if there's been any update I missed :) I like to read in chronological order so I've been delaying Wind and Truth until this comes out

First time I will read any Sanderson book. And starting with the Mistborn Trilogy. I researched and it was a toss up to start with Mistborn or Stormlight Archive so I went with the shorter one. The problem is, I’m reading the Sword of Shannara trilogy and have 850 pages to go lol. I night the Mistborn trilogy because it was cheap on prime day this week. I love to read but I’m bad at keeping up on it. I should have Shannara done by now. But here’s a side by side of the Shannara Trilogy (all in one book) and the 3 Mistborn books. I hope I picked the right set to start with. I read Stormlight isn’t even finished, is that right?

Stunning cover, art, colors. All of it but the book arrived somewhat damaged…. Not my experience with any of the other secret projects.

A bit disappointed with it. I’m still going to hold on to it gladly.

Edit: It’s worse than I initially thought and I initiated a ticket with DS.

No Spoilers Preston Jacobs claims about Brandon Sanderson

I have been watching the Red Team Review podcast channel on YouTube, and one of podcasters, Preston Jacobs, said that the reason that Brandon Sanderson is so prolific is because Brandon has an 'assembly line' of writers that fill in outlines and such for him. Surely that's not true. I know he hires artists to do art for his books, and a team that handles his in-house novels that they produce and ship out, but an assembly line of writers?

Spoilers Has there been any word on what [Image 1] is referring to? And could one of them possibly be referring to [Image 2](EXTREMELY MINOR spoilers for Emberdark)? Spoiler

I know none of the work referenced is Fires of December, as that was announced before this post was made (Dec 5 vs KH-MD (Dec 19)).

I really really want one of the books to be a reference to the Hoid-Solves-A-Murder-In-The-Grand-Apparatus story cause I’m a whodunnit fan and a Cosmere fan and a Hoid fan and I need that book in my life.

Lastly, Brandon seems to drop hints about things coming sooner rather than later. The Apparatus was first mentioned on Nov 21, 2023, and Emberdark, the first book to give canon explanation of what it is was announced less than six months later (early 2024), and came out in July of 2024.

(Admittedly, this is the only example I can think of off the top of my head.)

So, it’s my hope that the murder mystery is one of the two Cosmere books, cause that’s what I want to see the most.

No Spoilers Do I need to read any other books before way of kings, to understand the prelude and prologue?

It is a long story but the summary is I started Way of Kings took a 2 year break learned that it was part of a bigger multi series thing and started it back up again recently. But after finishing the Prelude and Prologue I have gone from assuming that I am not supposed to know what these things are to wondering if these things are explained in some earlier book and I should go read that first.

I know people say you don't need to read the other series but would reading the other series provide context for the events in the prelude and prologue?

Edit: I appreciate all the feedback. I do want to clarify though I had no issues trusting the process on my first read I just became unsure when I heard of other connected series if I needed to read those first to understand these chapters.
