Cosmere spoilers Question about the advantage of a certain allomantic metal Spoiler
Hi,
I've been rereading the first trilogy (last time was over a decade ago and I have a blast right now) and was thinking about gold allomancy.
Is there any use or advantage of burning gold besides self reflection and some shenanigans with other magic systems? I would love to read your opinions and theories about it.

No Spoilers Era 1 + Secret History Complete. What Next
Hello Everyone! I am a new reader who loves Fantasy, Sci-Fi, action, dystopian novels, cool power systems, and am interested in trying to find great world building with great characters. So where else is better to go then reddit to choose my next stop. As of now, I have only read 2 series (ever in my life) and they were both great.
Red rising Series (waiting for red god to come out) and Mistborn Era 1 only
Do you think I should dive right into Era 2, I think I would enjoy and i heard about its themes being wildwest/steam punk vibe but just want to hear ur thoughts. I loved Era 1 but people say its different in both a good/bad way. I thinkk id enjoy learning more about the cosmere too but I also feel theres also more to be able to explore book/author/universe wise
Some I've seen and really Interested in starting are: Stormlight Archives, Empire of Silence,

Mistborn: Final Empire spoilers Just finished the first Mistborn book. Here is what I imagined how the characters looked in my head Spoiler
galleryThis isnāt really a serious post, I just wanted to share what came to my mind as I tried to visualize these characters in my head because I thought they were kinda funny.
- Kelsier - Sly Cooper
I know Skaa are supposed to be identical to nobles in terms of appearance, but when I read the prologue, I really felt like they were some other species. And because Kelsier was introduced there, it always stuck in my mind that he would look something like Sly Cooper. Only thing missing is a Mistborn cloak
2) Vin - Kimiko (from The Boys)
To be honest I didnāt really try to visualize the look of Vin in my head until after I finished the book. I feel like Kimiko is a good fit just due to her slender build, dark hair, and overall the fact that they both came from really harsh upbringings and has super powers that they gained later in life.
3) Lord Ruler - Ganishka (Berserk)
Ganishka is a tyrant who controls a massive empire, based on Indian / South Asian / maybe Persian culture. Interestingly, Ganishka has the power to turn himself into mist to cover entire cities and battlefields, and control the weather and winds. He literally engineers demons and stuff in his army through gruesome human experimentation and stuff, and as a whole Iād say heās actually way worse than the Lord Ruler, but they do share many similarities.
4) Sazed - Jabaloma (Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo)
This dude is literally an alien from the spinoff series of JJK. Heās like a diplomat sent to earth to negotiate with humans, and heās very crafty and intelligent, so personality wise heās not really a good match for Sazed. Heās also sort of an antagonist, but not necessarily evil. At least in terms of appearance, he looks very religious (the aliens in this story are very religious and spiritual, thatās sort of the core conflict ā humans on earth are killing evil spirits that the aliens recognize as gods). I know that terrismen donāt look THAT different from other people in the Mistborn series, but they are at least distinguishable, similar to this alien guy.
5) inquisitors - Doki (Tayuyaās Summoning from Naruto)
At first, I thought steel inquisitors were like giants or something, so this is the image that I contrived for them. In Naruto, these demons have no intelligence, and are simply creatures controlled by a girl (antagonist) named Tayuya who plays notes on a flute to control them and attack her enemies. In Mistborn, inquisitors are actually smart and even crafty, basically usurping the obligators towards the end. So again, not a great match personality wise.
6) Breeze - Monopoly man (lol)
they really emphasized ādressed like a nobleā so I imagined Breeze with a top hat and cane. Interestingly this might actually be more of Docksons look, but I never really conjured an image for him.
Hope you enjoyed this post!

Hero of Ages spoilers Lord Devinshae? Spoiler
This is something that has been bothering me since the first time I read Mistborn final empire in 2016, but... why would Kelsier allow Devinshae to live? Dockson is his best friend, he wants to create the noble house war and literally, the first action we see him take in the story is killing a Noble for trying to do what this monster did and continue to do for decades? As in, even as a non-mistborn, he should have been gunning to murder this asshole. As the mistborn and survivor of Hasting? Devinshae should have died years before the prologue.
Its impossible that Keliser doesn't know, with what he told Vin. So why was so proactive killing the rest of the nobles for being scum, but left this one alive? The first time I was reading, I thought for sure afterwards Kellsier would have killed him or that Vin would have a confrontation during the Well of ascencion, or have Dockson being the one to take revenge but... no. He literally dissapear from the story and there is a possibility he survived the end of the world.
So why? Is anybody else bothered by this character and his interaction with the story?

Hero of Ages spoilers Just finished the Era 1 trilogy (Final Empire-HoA) Spoiler
I'm not the biggest reader but these were recommended to me a while back. Honestly, they were great books. What Sanderson did with The Lord Ruler's character was clever and almost everything I predicted turned out to be false.
My favorite characters were definitely Sazed, Spook, and TenSoon. Kelsier is up there as well but since he really only was in one book, the others top him.
I listened to the graphic audiobooks while reading the actual book and I found this to really enhance the overall experience. Adding voices for the characters and music/sound effects for the scenes made it much easier to immerse myself in. For anyone wanting to read/re-read, I really recommend this.
The only complaint I had was I felt books 2 and 3 meandered a bit and overemphasized things that really didn't need to be. I'm happy to see that Era 2 is a bit more condensed, hopefully limiting that a bit.
As for a rating I'd go 9/10 and my rankings of the books (they're all great) is 1>2>3.

Secret History + BoM spoilers Question about R&P's communication? Spoiler
Hey everyone!
Finished Secret History yesterday, and I have a few lingering questions about how communication works between humans, and Ruin/Preservation.
Question 1:
"And remember⦠remember what I told you, so long ago⦠Do what I cannot, Kelsierā¦
SURVIVE." ~ Preservation to Kelsier, Part 6 Chapter 4
How did Preservation speak to Kelsier back when he was in the Pits?
I was under the impression that Preservation did not have the ability to communicate with people's minds at all.
Question 2:
"It had taken precious days ā.......ā to search out someone in the army who was touched in the head, someone with that distinctive soul of madness." ~ Part 6 Chapter 3
Why could Kelsier speak to people with madness when he was in the Cognitive Realm?
My understanding has been that to be able to speak into the minds of people, you need Ruin's power, along with the presence of a hemallurgic spike within said people.
We are shown that Kelsier is connected to Ruin to an extent, which could explain him having the ability. But what about him makes it so that he can send thoughts to people who do not have a spike within them, but do have 'a soul of madness'?
If madness allows for this to happen, can Ruin do the same? Talk to mad people that do not have spikes?

Hi everyone, currently reading mistborn for the first time (really enjoying it so far!) Iāve just noticed that the font has changed between two pages. Does anyone know what it means? Is it a mistake like a printing error or something intentional?

Hero of Ages spoilers Dueling staff Spoiler
I am reading first trilogy, and at first i assumed that it is something like Bo, made from a very hard wood that can easily withstand sword hits or something like that. But, every time there is a combat involving dueling staff, it just cracks after very first hit. Even if it is doing the intended purpose of hitting the enemy, and not even blocking. I get that it's made mostly for showing off, and combat allomancers, but it gets ridiculous when Elend decides to use it when having allomancy, despite the fact that he could easily lift up a stone weapon like that, or anything that won't crack by hitting unprotected enemy body, literally doing no damage. Why? Why they keep on using that?

No Spoilers If you read this sub and like videogames, do yourself a favor...
...and play Blood of Dawnwalker
It's hard to fully explain how much this game FEELS like Mistborn.
The esthetic, of course
the feeling of turning into a very powerful being during the night, roaming the city roofs, terrifying those who see you
You could kill them all, but you don't wanna stir a mess and attract the overlord's attention
prepare your attack on the fortress, your "heist".
You seem invincible to the masses, but you have hard limitations. You're not just flying around, you pull yourself in short bursts between rooftops.
You need to come to terms with the overlord being far stronger than yourself, but maybe with the right allies and plan...
During the day you are a respectable man, talking with people, making preparations. At night the world changes, and you can settles issue in a more... pragmatic way
Of course there are major major distinctions between being metalborn and being a half-vampire, but I swear: I always thought the insomniac spider games where the perfect "mistborn game", they just needed a reskin, but that's changed now.
This game is way way way more mistborn to me, to its core
So that' my reccomendation, toodles
PS this screenshot might give you an idea of how "mistborn" the esthetics are https://blog.bestbuy.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/The-Blood-of-the-Dawnwalker-Own-The-Night.jpg

Shadows of Self spoilers Theory on jewelry/piercings as allomantic metals Spoiler
To preface, I'm about 20% through Bands of Mourning, so anything beyond that just tell me to RAFO!
But, I had a thought while reading. Until now, what we've seen of earrings and piercings is always to use as a hemalurgic spike. Yet, I am noticing that (more so in Era 2 than in Era 1) carrying vials of metals is a disadvantage when fighting another allomancer, since they can and WILL pull/push on the vials.
Wouldn't it be a better technique to carry your metals as some kind of earring/jewelry? That way, its embedded into your skin which means it can not be used against you while you fight, only in the brief window where you remove it and swallow it. Its also a theory that I think makes more sense for Era 2, since it would be fairly complicated for a full Mistborn seeing as they would have to have all the metals, but fora metalborn with just 1 allomantic power, I dont see why not. Or even a mix; carrying vials, for ease of ingestion, but having a "backup plan" in the form of an earring or something similar.
Has anybody looked into this theory more, is there any info about it?

Alloy of Law spoilers - Part 1 Part 1 of Allow of Law done - What a great start for Era 2! Spoiler
I'm finally starting Mistborn Era 2, after being done with Era 1, Stormligh up until RoW and a few standalone novels such as Warbreaker, Elantris and Tress. If the order feels weird, it's because I'm reading the Cosmere as they're released in my country, and Era 2 was just published.
I gotta say, I'm loving it so far. The first thing that I notice is the difference in tone from The Final Empire. That first book is brutal! But while Allow of Law begins with a tragedy (Lessie's death), the tone is much lighter. All the characters so far are fun to read, without exception. Wax & Wayne, but also Marasi and Steris, which fits the bill for the "strong and clever female character" that Sanderson writes so well. The worldbuilding is great, although I'm still trying to understand how that world that Sazed created by the end of HoA becomes this world, which also comes with a few questions, like: why there are still mists? How the hell did the Koloss breed with humans to create the koloss-blooded? Is Harmony directly answering the prayers? But I'll wait to have those questions answered on the books ahead. All that to say this book is short, fast paced, light and fun. A welcome change of pace from all the epicness of Stormlight.
PS: real question - I'm reading the book in my language, but I always try to know which is the original term Brandon used in the books. So, what is the gang of robbers called in English? In my language the translation used a word that in English would be something close to "Vanished". Is that it? Thanks!

No Spoilers Help me get back into the cosmere universe
I completed the mistborn trilogy a couple of months ago. I enjoyed it quite a lot and decided to go ahead with the cosmere series. I looked around the internet to see how closely the different series were connected and was disappointed to find that they werenāt all that closely connected. Still I started a book (I donāt remember which) and got kindof bored of it and I missed the old beloved characters from mistborn. But recently I came across a subreddit and found some info (voluntarily looked at spoilers) which led me to believe that the cosmere might be more connected than I thought. So i want some help from my fellow mistborn fans to get me back into the cosmere universe. Any information yall can give that might heavily inspire me to start reading the cosmere again would be highly appreciated. Iād even welcome some spoilers if they blow my mind enough to make me want to start reading. (Just keep the spoilers so that they donāt completely destroy my reading experience). Thanks in advance!

Hero of Ages spoilers My friend is reading Mistborn for the first time and she is cracking me up. Spoiler
So, first of all, sheās only a quarter of the way through the second book. Iām just flagging this for era 1 for discussion purposes.
In book 1, she told me āNo way Kelsier dies, him and Vin make it through book 3 and heāll die saving the worldā.
In book 2, her favorite character so far is āOreosā aka OreSeurā¦. Sheās been trying to figure out who the kandra is, and sheās going to be so heartbroken. I canāt wait.
Other funny theories: she is OBSESSED with Reen. She has to figure out who Vinās brother is, how he isnāt dead, heās impersonating someone or otherwise is in another city. How heās going to come back, etc
Iāve been telling her heās dead, because Kar confirmed in book 1 that he died protecting Vin. Sheās convinced. And sheās going to flip shit on me when book 3 kicks in š
Whatās your favorite incorrect theory that either you, or a friend reading, came up with?
