This is pretty much the best start the Brewers could have asked for. They got to Skubal just enough to win, chased Yamamoto early, and forced LA to use up a lot of their bullpen.

The Dodgers can't be counted out yet, but they're going to have to really quickly put these games behind them and hit back hard and often in LA.

98

u/bigbluethunder Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

"use up a lot of their bullpen" doesn't matter much given the rest day. Nobody pitched more than an inning outside of Yamamoto. Obviously it's nice to see people's stuff in the playoffs and have recent exposure to it, but from a rest perspective nobody should be spent.

43

u/aDarkDarkCrypt 1d ago edited 1d ago

It still gave the Brewers valuable looks at their bullpen. Moreso than had Skubal and Yamamoto gone 6 or 7 innings.

Brewers fell behind three times. Brewers never trailed at the end of any inning.

177

u/Ready2Move2Digg Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I am still in joyful disbelief. The Crew took on the top two pitchers that the Dodgers have - let alone two of the best pitchers in the league - and beat them both. It's still a long road and those next two wins likely won't come easy, but right now I'm feeling extremely positive about the Brewers outlook.

37

u/Hiciao Arizona Diamondbacks 1d ago

Yes, facing Yamamoto along with those ugly fielding errors and still coming out on top is a good sign for the Brewers. It will be different in LA, but I'm still cautiously optimistic for y'all.

The 12 hits last night is just insane. I wasn’t a believer in our offense translating to the postseason but we’ve just kept winning games that way.

Brewers in 5. Ya'll looked deadly yesterday. 12 hits in an LCS game...that's a lot of offensive pressure.

2

u/Jawyp Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Feel like 4 is more likely than 5. If LA wins one of the next two, that means Game 5 is an away game against Skubal, which I would not feel confident in the slightest about winning.

Either a clean sweep or it’s decided back in Milwaukee.

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

And it’s not like we’re playing out of our minds either. I mean I guess our offense went crazy against Yamamoto, but 2 or 3 Dodgers runs yesterday were unearned due to some boneheaded errors. The score was a lot closer than the game should have been. We can still play much better

178

u/evancomposer Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I’m not feeling remotely comfortable right now. I’ve been hurt by the Dodgers too many times. Snell on the mound in game 3 may be our toughest test yet. Need Bobby Gas to lock in and the bats to continue to hit.

57

u/totallynotliamneeson Milwaukee Brewers • Racine Belles 1d ago

I'm not discounting Snell at all, but no, Yamamoto and Skubal are by far the best arms in that rotation. Again, not saying Snell and Glasnow will be a walk in the park, but the toughest test was holding serve against two of the best arms in the game. Yamamoto has been lights out for awhile now.

3

u/Designer_B St. Louis Cardinals 1d ago

I guess it could be an accurate statement in he may pitch better than Yamamoto and Skubal did. But a wild take otherwise.

2

u/JKBraden Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Wish you weren't but you're right. Yama and Skubal are the better arms in general. Snell put on a clinic last year in the NLCS but he's just as likely to walk seven, not finish the 4th, and force another bullpen rotisserie. And that's against ANY opponent, let alone the Brewers.

2

u/KevinV626 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Sure, but we had our 2 best guys going and now we got May and ? I dont think its arguable that the gap the next 2 games is bigger than the gap the past 2 games. Also we're on the road.

1

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Yeah but as we’ve seen, the challenge is getting throughout bullpen not our starters. And we pulverized their bullpen yesterday

1

u/CryptographerShot213 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Gasser’s performance in SD was pretty impressive. I wouldn’t discount him yet.

68

u/Hope-u-guess-my-name Atlanta Braves 1d ago

With y’all’s lineup’s patience, I think snell will be out pretty early. He walks a lot of dudes

98

u/Desperate_Zebra9699 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Brewers fans still have Snell trauma from last year's dominance in the NLCS.

13

u/Patriot009 Atlanta Braves 1d ago

Snell's mojo is off. Too many all-nighters on Twitch. He's going to be feeding ya'll baserunners.

37

u/jonsnowKITN New York Yankees 1d ago

Different year. Make it count.

4

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Yama pitched a complete game last year and couldn’t get 9 outs yesterday. We’re a way different team than last year. The boys look confident out there

2

u/fponee Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

HOPEFULLY our better plate discipline continues unlike the Snell game last year.

34

u/1sinfutureking Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Snell completely dominated our lineup last October so I think a lot of fans are nervous about that. Hopefully we get our revenge like we got on Yamamoto last night

25

u/xixbia Netherlands 1d ago

Yamamoto threw a 1 run complete game last October. I feel these aren't the same Brewers.

Also, Snell pitched 3.2 innings against the Braves and 5.2, 1 and 4.0 in his last 3.0 regular season starts (and never topped 6 innings this season).

With how the Brewers were going deep into counts against Yamamoto I'd be shocked if Shell gets to the 6th.

14

u/1sinfutureking Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

This year just feels different. I’m still nervous because of a history with Wisconsin sports, but I’m starting to get hopeful

4

2

2

u/Hefty-Count9944 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

These are NOT the same Brewers. I want LA to win four in a row now--and we might!

But Brewers have a team of destiny vibe. To me, they have all season.

2

u/wRADKyrabbit Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Yep. There's zero hope for the Dodgers

1

u/Hefty-Count9944 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Zero feels low. But the Brewers are and should be heavy favorites.

19

u/sixpackabs592 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Cy young snell still walked a lot of dudes and going off his last start he is not at that level rn

Brewers are historically patient at the plate, could be a quick outing if his control is off.

19

u/Simple_Wash1618 Los Angeles Angels 1d ago

Dodgers are never going to be a cakewalk, especially if they take Shohei out of the lineup for JDP, but Snell should theoretically be the least daunting of the pitchers this far.

If the Brewers can make him throw a bunch of pitches like they did with Yamamoto (and the Dodgers did to Miz) he will walk guys and run up his pitch count.

Having said that he’ll probably be lights out now.

2

u/RogueModron Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Dodgers are never going to be a cakewalk, especially if they take Shohei out of the lineup for JDP

This is such a wild statement. I'm not saying you're wrong--just that it's a wild statement. It's insane that I can't decide if I'd rather have Ohtani in the lineup or out of it. I hope for the sake of baseball that he gets better--in the offseason.

9

u/bigbluethunder Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Absolutely need to lock in. I think game 3 is our best chance to win in LA. Worried game 4 they will bring Skubal back in

7

u/aDarkDarkCrypt 1d ago

I think they would play Glasnow on a short leash with Skubal being available. Skubal would be on a short rest and would probably have a pitch limit anyway.

1

u/ReverendLoveboy New York Mets 1d ago

They've played a clean game, played a sloppy one and overcame mistakes. Snell is tough but so is the Brewers lineup, pesky bastards

1

u/Jawyp Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Yamamoto and Skubal are way better than 2026 Snell. Atlanta’s offense sucked in the playoffs and even they were able to chase him after 3.2 innings.

The dodgers got more offense out of Logan Henderson throwing to first base than they did out of their own bats. That was just pitching domination

5

u/new_wellness_center Atlanta Braves 1d ago

Seriously. Didn't they score 3 runs off two Henderson throwing errors and a wild pitch?

1

u/1sinfutureking Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Yup. And they got one after a Mookie Betts shot that ate up Cooper Pratt, which I thought should have been an error. Maybe it was just having seen Cooper Pratt play a LOT of shortstop this year where he’s been phenomenal so I expected him to make the play, but he’s having a rough October with the glove

9

u/Thndrcougarfalcnbird Detroit Tigers 1d ago

Ohtani has to have a rather serious injury he’s playing through

8

u/samwisegamgee St. Louis Cardinals • Chicago White Sox 1d ago

I think an important thing to note about Ohtani is that during the 2025 NLDS and early NLCS, he was pretty cold, similar numbers, 3-20something. Then he gave one of the craziest postseason performances of all time.

I’m just too traumatized by this line up to ever consider them “dead”.

3

u/joeh4384 Detroit Tigers 1d ago

He still had some pop in his bat though. Right now he might as well be swinging a pool noodle.

2

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

That at bat where he dropped his bat was genuinely horrendous. One of the worst I’ve seen.

3

u/1sinfutureking Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I mentioned in the game thread but his swing looks so slow

70

u/Boring-Baker8761 San Diego Padres 1d ago

I'm a Padres fan whose lived in Wisconsin for 14 years now, Milwaukee for 6 of those. I love the Brewers, but I feel like that NLDS series scarred me so hard I can't be happy for the Brew Crew yet. I know it's the Dodgers but every time the Brewers have 2 on 2 out and score the tying or go-ahead run I'm traumatized all over again. I thought I'd be back after game 1 but I'm not there yet and I don't want to miss this potentially seminal moment in Wisconsin sports history. Help!

26

u/Flashdime Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

As a Brewers fan, I've been so stressed out with the back and forth of these two series. Finally felt able to breath yesterday getting the two insurance runs in the 8th yesterday. It's just been nail-biting every AB

They’re facing Skubal unless this is a sweep.

Credit to your analytics department. Seems like you guys have been able to correctly predict the pitch mix from most teams in the playoffs so far.

Ohtani is clearly more then just a little banged up and isn't able to reliably play through it. Dodgers strongly need to consider benching Ohtani because its not just about him being a black hole the rest of the playoffs, they need to consider if he can seriously hurt himself and jeopardizing next season or even the rest of his career

TBH I thought beating Skubal was possible because although he's been pitching really solid since he got traded, he still throws a lot of pitches and will give up home runs.

I did not expect the lack of run support for him and then Yamamoto imploding.

At best I expected 1-1 going into the games in LA. Now? No idea what's gonna happen.

41

u/Dinoswarleaf Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

The Brewers have never had a 2 game lead in a CS series. It's absolutely not over but I can't believe they're this close

I remember last year when we had a 2-0 CS lead going into 3 games at home.

27

u/lucasj Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

One game from a title in 1982, before I was born, and I’m old.

One game from the WS in 2018.

Outside of those two years, this is the closest they’ve ever been to a title, and the biggest advantage they’ve had in a series this late.

But the home team hasn’t lost yet and the Dodgers are the kinda team you need to double-tap.

1

u/xixbia Netherlands 1d ago

I mean, home advantage in MLB is .530 vs .470.

Yes, it's an advantage, and it probably matters more in the playoffs, but it doesn't matter all that much in the end.

9

u/new_wellness_center Atlanta Braves 1d ago

Once you start thinking you're "close" the Dodgers lineup remembers they're all getting paid $1B and decide they had better doink a few homers and next thing you know you've lost the series 4-3. Seriously. Don't let them do it.

Brewers are the 1 seed for a reason, defending home field is huge

31

u/bubbanator79 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

The Brewers are so pesky and scrappy offensively and would be a fun team to watch if you weren’t playing them

31

u/JaqueStrap69 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I’ve been saying all year - this team must fucking suck to play against for opposing fans. Just annoying as hell

6

u/vishnchips6 Toronto Blue Jays • Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

From a vibes perspective you really remind me of last year's Jays at times at the plate, watching the game last night (and especially that Bauers PA) spawned a memory in my head of the Schlittler start last year where we chased him in the 2nd inning after fouling off a billion pitches. Hope you guys can finish the job that we couldn't!

2

u/elevator713 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Every time Hamilton got on, I just thought “well he’s scoring”. And with the Bauer’s 12 pitch at bat, when he still fouled off that perfect splitter by Yama that fell several inches below the zone and faded outside, I knew he was getting on one way or another. You guys manufacture runs from scraps incredibly well.

Infuriating to watch, but impressive.

4

u/lucasj Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

It’s really fucking fun to watch a team that’s in every game. They do not quit and they never look dead. Went down three times last night and answered before the inning was over. Patient at-bats deep into the game. In the one game they lost this playoffs, they had runners on down one in the 9th and might have tied if the last bat hit the ball just slightly differently. All our games have been cardiac close but when you watch this team play, you understand why they consistently win the type of game that should be a coin flip.

The 2010 Packers were only 10-6 but were the first team in 60 years to never once trail by more than a touchdown. Similar vibe watching this team.

29

u/peckx063 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I would be a lot more confident in Milwaukee if they were playing well defensively. The pitcher errors yesterday, Bauers hasn't been great in the field, Pratt clearly has the yips, even Turang has been shaky. This team is good because they do the little things right. I want to see them calm their nerves a little bit. I don't think the Dodgers can beat them unless they continue to help them out a little bit with the mistakes.

12

u/bigbluethunder Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Winning game 3 would give me a lot more confidence. Hoping we can knock Snell out early and Gasser can lock the fuck in. We need a starter to look good through 5+ at some point to win this thing, imo.

5

u/ItsVencu Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Even if they don't commit errors it feels like everything the (infield) defense does is a beat slower then it was during the season.

Obviously yesterday was largely on Henderson (3 runs from wild pitch + two throws to first) but Pratts shakey where he hasn't been and while that short hop that ate him up was tough i think he makes that play pretty consistently during the regular season, and overall the defense has had it's share of issues in the padres series as well

On a positive, the offense is playing composed, if the defense gave up those errors last year I think the players last year fold and don't have a shot of coming back (as evidenced by the sweep), but this year they immediately answered back every time they lost the lead.

Offense is playing well, Bullpen is dominant, the starting pitching is doing enough (would love to see miz go deeper), but the defense has been our glaring issue so far.

3

u/18khcl Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I totally agree. Literally handing out free runs. Mariners were up 2-0 and looked so much better than Blue Jays in ALCS last year, then blue jays started hitting. I still like our chances but it’s not over yet

1

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

The thing is, and Dodgers fans correct me if I’m wrong, but they’ve been worried about the offense for months now and have been hoping it would come alive in October. It’s not like they’re slumping, it seems like this is just how the offense is and has been for a long time now. Could the bats wake up? 100%, it’s baseball anything can happen. But they’re going up against one of the toughest pitching staffs in the league rn

2

u/Sokkawater10 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

I think game 3 will decide if this goes as a sweep or if this goes 7 games. If the dodgers can survive game 3, I think our hope is that Skubal and Yamamoto won’t get beaten a 2nd time even though the Miz is pretty fucking scary

It is definitely possible for the Brewers to lose four of the remaining five. Fortunately the team is clearly in the right headspace to internalize that and they're going to keep playing their game the way they have been all year, they're not playing prevent defense now. You must not know our history. You expect to win the World Series every year. We expect playoff heartbreak

3

u/elevator713 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

You would expect our fan base to have adjusted to have some faith in the team that has won back to back World Series, but the doomers come out in droves once a couple of things go wrong. I believe it’s remnants of the previous 15 years (outside of 2020) where the dodgers were making the playoffs almost every year, heavily investing in payroll and still falling short.

Every year we’d make it, people would joke about when we’ll choke this year with our high payroll, and then we’d indeed choke. Even with the 2020 WS, getting handily smoked by the braves in 2021 felt bad. Then back to back NLDS losses to the padres and the diamondbacks in 2022 and 2023 really brought in a new level of doomer energy.

That being said, I wish more of our fan base had a healthy medium between “the dodgers are the team of destiny and are unstoppable” and “the dodgers will get swept and never win again” to handle the inevitable variance that comes with baseball.

Yup. Brewers certainly in drivers seat atm but Series is far from over. If LA sweeps all 3 at home the pressure will be on the Brewers in game 6 and 7 no doubt.

Can't put into words how much fun I was having watching those Brewers ABs in the first three innings against Yamamoto. Never really seen a pitcher get tired out in an inning that way, like sure pitchers look tired after a certain amount of pitches, but the way he was barely able to keep up with the pace of the clock during the Bauers AB was a first.

Overall, they have the Dodgers right where they want them. They got to finish this off quick though, the longer the series goes the more it tips into the Dodgers favor, even with the home advantage.

41

u/PaceNo354 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I just don't see the dodgers winning 4 out of the next 5. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but a brewers world series would feed Wisconsin for decades.

33

u/crowd79 Detroit Tigers 1d ago

Yeah the Packers are easily the most popular team in the state but the Brewers are up there as well. A lot of that is due to listening to Uecker on broadcasts across the state over those decades. And probably the tailgating tradition, too. Even when the Bucks won the NBA title 5 years ago it felt more like a local celebration. Brewers winning it all would be much bigger.

17

u/mlj21299 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I live on the west side of Wisconsin. Packers and Brewers are the dominating teams around here. No one really talks about the Bucks much, even when they won the title. Don't really see people wearing Bucks merch very often either. But there's Brewers and Packers stuff everywhere

7

u/crowd79 Detroit Tigers 1d ago

As a Brewers/Tigers fan that’s gone to many games at Target Field over the past few years (travel to Minneapolis often for work, family and the MN state fair) I’m always amazed at the huge turnout of Brewers fans at Twins games. It is literally like a home game. Definitely on point.

5

u/mlj21299 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

It's practically equal distance for me to get to Target Field and to AmFam from where I live too. I've only been to Target Field once but it was pretty much a 50/50 split of Brewers and Twins fans

8

u/mrmojorisin2794 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Milwaukee was nuts during the Bucks finals run in 2021, but they may not be as popular around the state as they are in Milwaukee. I feel like the Brewers have a ton of casual fans across the state who may not be too invested throughout the season, but will absolutely show up come playoff time.

1

u/piepants2001 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I live in western Wisconsin too, and I've noticed that there are a good amount of Bucks fans, but they are mostly younger people, like under the age of 25ish.  Before Giannis, I never heard anyone talking about them.

2

u/mlj21299 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Ah, I'm usually around older people so maybe that's why I don't hear or see much about the Bucks. I work with a couple people that will casually watch it, but they aren't super into it like they are with the Brewers

1

u/clownparade Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I consider myself a huge packer fan and have been for 40 years. I have never before cared about the brewers more than the packers in October until this season.

I agree. Only scenario I can see Dodgers pulling this out is winning a tough game 3 and blowing the Brewers out in game 4, essentially turning it into a three-game series with all confidence on their side. So it's a very small chance. The Brewers have a better chance of sweeping, but I think it will go 5 or 6.

u/darthscorn Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I think that 12 pitch walk for Bauers is series defining. Getting Yamamoto out of the game early, and setting the Brewers up to see all of the Dodgers bullpen (except Diaz) is massive.

Just like with the Padres, seeing the same relievers multiple times in the same week leads to familiarity and lets players pick up on how player pitch, and I think it will play a big role in later games in the series.

I'm a bit concerned it will happen for the Dodgers as well vs Brewers pitching. But we still haven't shown a few guys and I think it's a big advantage.

1

u/wRADKyrabbit Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

You shouldn't be concerned whatsoever, you've already gotten to our whole pen, yours is completely untouchable. Thats not just gonna suddenly change

1

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

And on the flip side the Dodgers are barely getting a look at our guys because they’ve basically all been 3 up 3 down. And the guys they’ve seen have been near unhittable in Uribe/Ashby/Megill

47

u/new_wellness_center Atlanta Braves 1d ago edited 1d ago

So this is the point where Dodgers fans on here get to larp as common folk, saying stuff like "lol we're so cooked", and "welp Snell sucks", etc. They'll lure you into engaging with them in friendly, sportsmanlike banter. But then their team of spoiled prep schoolers will start actually playing like the $1B team that they are, because they realize the humiliation of not winning would be just too much to bear, it would tarnish the family name, grampy will write them out of his will, etc. Next thing you know you'll have lost the series 4-3 and a million Dodgers fans will be on here throwing double birds, on their way to another WS ring, at which point they'll get to work writing the narrative about "how much they overcame" because one of their many MVP/Cy winners had a bum knee.

-3

u/Anacapa1115 San Diego Padres 1d ago

Seems like a reasonable and based in reality comment to me. Or have you never met your own fanbase before?

Let’s talk ball: your team has a starting pitching rotation that is equivalent to the talent of the rotation of two playoff caliber teams in one. You have three games at home. The brewers talent differential compared to your squads overpaid hired headhunters REQUIRED they win the first two games or otherwise they would be playing from far behind. You have a deck stacked in your favor and an 0-2 deficit is enough for your roster to get it together and make it a series. The next 1-2 games will be very telling about which way this series goes.

Either way, I hope you enjoy the lockout.

Or do you save that for a true elimination game?

13

u/OwnABMWImBetterThanU Detroit Tigers 1d ago

He hasn’t made a relief appearance in years and he barely did it all. His rookie year and a little bit afterwards.

6

u/mrmojorisin2794 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Many starters who would otherwise never pitch out of the bullpen will do it in the playoffs.

1

u/OwnABMWImBetterThanU Detroit Tigers 1d ago

Of course but usually that’s something they’ve done before. Sale started out as a reliever for example. Skubal has pitched out of the pen like one time as a rookie.

Unless it’s a win or go home game I wouldn’t consider it based off watching him and how the Tigers handled his pitch counts. But, I’m not a manager.

4

How much of last night was Yama just not quite having it, vs the Brewers being that good? Great pitching beats hitting, it seemed like he was off. I haven’t heard anyone else mentioning this (instead blaming Will etc), but normally Yoshi hits those corners and gets those calls.

29

u/thebruce44 1d ago

I think the Brewers are just a really good baseball team. That narrative seems to be completely lost my national media.

7

u/wRADKyrabbit Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Literally the best team in baseball

2

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Brewers always get disrespected or downplayed. In the Padres series everyone was calling them the hottest team in baseball (Brewers had same record in September), the best bullpen in baseball (Brewers statistically had the best bullpen), and they’d show stats that had the Padres top 3 while not mentioning that the Brewers were #1 or 2. It was pretty wild to see lol

1

u/Chichanged_me Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Yeah we won 103 games and beat the hot smoking pad

9

u/samwisegamgee St. Louis Cardinals • Chicago White Sox 1d ago

Yeah it’s something I can never really figure out about pitching vs. hitting lol. Like, sure, Yamamoto was off and not dotting the corners, but was he avoiding those corners cause the Brewers were fouling off everything that hit the zone?? How would we know?

7

u/shmere4 1d ago

It’s an entangled relationship. Hitters forcing a pitcher to work and worry will make a pitcher go on tilt and make poor decisions. The opposite happens when pitchers drive stress into the hitters decision making process.

5

u/RogueModron Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

drive stress into the hitters decision making process.

"driving stress into the opponent's decision-making process" is such an elegant way of putting what so much of sports is about. Thanks for that phrase.

1

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

And Milwaukee is the best team in the league at putting pressure on the opponent. They’re relentless

2

u/Baseball_is_the_best New York Yankees 1d ago

I think the first two games of the Yankees Rays series encapsulated it perfectly. Game 1 was amazing pitching, game 2 was shit hitting lol

6

u/wRADKyrabbit Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Nah give them credit. They're that good, their lineup is unstoppable

4

u/Ok-Platypus-3975 1d ago

Yama was off, but Brewers deserve some credit for that. They had good plate discipline, making him work, and taking advantage of his misses. But he couldn't get his curve going with his other pitches consistently missing so badly and that is an important part of his game plan when batters come up to face him the second time in a game.

3

u/Chichanged_me Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

When the brewers are comfortable that’s their strength. Take a lot of pitches

2

u/Whatsdota Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

They’ve looked so comfortable since the 1st time thru the order in game 1. I was so worried because they had DOGSHIT plate discipline that first time through, and they looked like deer in headlights just like last year. I think the Turang homer was the turning point for them and they’ve looked significantly better since. Especially Turang, he looked unplayable in the Padres series, then it seemed like he remembered he’s a 7 WAR player

3

u/Brave-Secretary2484 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

All of last night was the Brewers just being that good

2

u/azdcaz 1d ago

Idk. What about the brewers bullpen going 5+ perfect innings to end the game? Were the relievers all that good or was the dodgers hitting that bad?

2

u/JoshJetlagger 1d ago

It wasn’t Yama it was our fucking bull pen. We got enough runs but couldn’t keep them

10

u/ItsVencu Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

2

u/Proof-Confidence-437 1d ago

I mean, as tenacious, as the brewers looked in offense, in comparison with Dodgers flailing, and with their convincing bullpen performance, I'm having a hard time imagining how could Dodgers climb out of this one...

20

u/kirbyfaraone Los Angeles Angels 1d ago

Until the last out is recorded you cant.

We thought the Padres had them beat in 2024, we thought the Jays had them beat last year.

3

u/Proof-Confidence-437 1d ago

Those felt different. At least to me...

26

u/InnerLog181 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Because Blake snell and Tyler Glasnow are on the dodgers, whereas we’re going to be throwing Robert gasser and likely Dustin May for the next two games. They can easily tie this series up. Just how baseball works

7

u/External-Royal1289 1d ago

I mean, we gotta give some respect to The Gas Man. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen someone lock in as hard as he has since being pulled mid-batter. Nothing is guaranteed, but I have faith in Robert Gasser. All gas, no brakes.

5

u/Proof-Confidence-437 1d ago

This series feels like being more about productive and combative ad bats. And Brewers are crushing it on that front right now more than enough to compensate for the starting pitching, IMO

3

u/bigbluethunder Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Dodgers did very well at that against our starters, too. As the series goes on, they will have seen more and more of our bullpen and may be able to give them more trouble, too.

There are many reasons a series is 7 games. So far, our adjustments have given us good advantages. The Dodgers may also adjust or might start to simply key in as they see more of us and get hot from there.

7

u/samwisegamgee St. Louis Cardinals • Chicago White Sox 1d ago

The Dodgers aren’t doing too terribly bad at that either. Lots of 3-2 counts all over the place. The Dodgers also “made the Brewers play baseball” last night and the Brewers looked to want to literally throw the series lead away.

I think this could easily get tied up in LA, which is why it was so crucial for the Crew to win last night’s game. Hard to count the Dodgers out, but I think the Brewers did a phenomenal job setting themselves up nicely to win the series.

10

u/EncryPtion29 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

The strategy of "make the brewers play baseball" is not a reliable one if you are the dodgers. The brewers are NOT the yankees and these errors are extremely uncharacteristic of them.

Would be surprised if the trend of devastating errors leading to runs continues.

2

u/samwisegamgee St. Louis Cardinals • Chicago White Sox 1d ago

No I know that, it’s just odd that this is sort of becoming a trend with this great defensive Brewers team—first with the Padres, and then obviously last night. And IIRC, they’ve all been costly errors at that.

5

u/Sokkawater10 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

It’s just 1 pitcher fucking up. The rest of the defense is solid. That pitcher isn’t pitching again til game 6

3

u/samwisegamgee St. Louis Cardinals • Chicago White Sox 1d ago

Don’t forget the 3 errors so far by Cooper Pratt, which could easily be 4 after yesterday.

I’m just saying, they gotta clean it up defensively if they want to advance, I’m sure you’re well aware the Dodgers WILL make them pay for more errors lol. Don’t wanna be giving that team extra outs.

2

u/peckx063 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

So far yes. But guys like Smith, Muncy, Hernandez...they've stepped up so many times before. It is not Betts, Freeman, and Ohtani that end up beating you. It's those secondary guys that you need to get out and they have quite a track record of not getting out.

2

u/pargofan Los Angeles Dodgers • World Series Tr… 1d ago

That's just baseball. Dodgers lost because David Hamilton gets a lot of bloop hits.

2

u/captain_ahabb Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago edited 1d ago

Dodgers have had a lot of traffic too. It's not like they're putting up bad ABs (Ohtani aside). The ball just isn't getting out. No homers so far. If they have a multi-homer game it looks much different I think.

2

u/PJCR1916 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Even if those guys only go like 3-5 inning each, we can’t touch your bullpen. 9.2 innings and just two hits.

4

u/ShiningMonolith Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Dodgers only hope is not just to get the starters pulled early, like they did already with Mis and Logan Henderson. They’ll have to get them pulled after scoring a good amount of runs against them and getting a substantial lead before having to face the Brewers pen.

There’s also the possibility of their top BP arms showing signs of weakness after having to face the Dodgers lineup multiple times in a short span, but it would be an uphill climb for the Dodgers no doubt.

2

u/Patriot009 Atlanta Braves 1d ago

Ironically Henderson wasn't pulled for his pitching, but his fielding liability and one-man error machine.

1

u/mrmojorisin2794 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

The Brewers also have the luxury of leaning on some of the bullpen that hasn't been used yet, rather than having to try to chase a win with their A bullpen. Whether Murphy will do that or not is another question, as he tends to overuse his trusted arms, but theoretically, it is an advantage the Brewers earned by winning the first two games.

1

u/wRADKyrabbit Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

Yeah they've gotta put up a 5 spot on the starter to have any hope at all and even that might not be enough, Brewers scored 7 yesterday. And obviously that wont happen since this lineup couldn't score 5 if their mom's lives were on the line. All their runs yesterday were sheer dumb luck off of errors and aside from Pages the team is 0-56 with RISP

3

u/GingerAle_s Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago

It feels like the dam has to break at some point. Someone is going to get a hit with RISP and then the big inning will happen. Or they'll go ofer two more games and get swept.
