Players Only THE BREWERS GO UP 2-0 IN THE NLCS
1.9k
u/Something_319 St. Louis Cardinals 2d ago
Beating Skubal and Yamamoto and getting a 2-0 lead over the Dodgers is no easy feat at all, it's been a while since the Brewers have felt like an actual postseason threat, good stuff from them
485
u/jedstrailerpark San Francisco Giants • Sickos 2d ago
Yeah part of me wants to say the old “it’s not a series until someone wins on the road” adage, but Milwaukee’s been super impressive. Skubal/Yoshi are about as impressive a 1-2 as you’ll find this postseason.

Remember the doom and gloom here back in January after they traded Freddy Peralta to the Mets?
Someway, somehow, Milwaukee keeps finding a way…
107
u/I_AM_SCUBASTEVE New York Mets 2d ago
Their pitching development is literally unfathomably good. Like multiple starters go down and they just bring up guys that would be top 2-3 starting pitchers on other teams from the minors. It’s why they didn’t care about Peralta leaving, they had guys like Mis there to come out and throw 105mph heaters.

If I were Dave Roberts I'd be afraid of getting assassinated by the Japanese government if he sat Ohtani to let him heal.
You know the dumbest part is that Ohtani could be screwing the back half of his career by permanently damaging the parts that are injured. He's in his 30s. Eventually stuff doesn't heal the way it does in your 20s.

Exactly. Far more often than not teams that spend more money win more often. And teams that can just spend whatever they want with no regard for spending limits will generally get all the best free agents. If anyone thinks any other team was gonna spend anywhere close to what the Dodgers paid for Tucker then youre in your own realtiy. The Dodgers gave Tucker the type of money that tells other teams, go fuck yourself, we will pay whatever it takes to keep them away from you. And without any rules to say otherwise they will continue to do it. Fortunately baseball is in a fairly unique position where even the worst teams can win 40% of games. The worst teams in the NBA or NFL will win 10-15% of the time. So even when youre the Dodgers and you spend way more than anyone else you still have a decent chance of losing a series. The Dodgers losing absolutely does not change the narrative of money buys championships.

u/Correct_Look2988 Chicago Cubs 2d ago
I find it hard to root for either team in this series but the Brewers play smart baseball and aren't just looking at analytics. It's been interesting to watch how much other teams rely on walks and home runs while the Brewers line up just keeps putting the ball in play, bunting runners over and coming up with hits with RISP.
They are pretty much the only team i've watched that feels like getting a runner on with 0 or 1 outs is gonna result in runs. Tampa is similar I suppose but haven't watched them play nearly as much to really say.
