They're faded

I wouldn't say there's really too much of a crowd here. I expect there to be a lot of Yankees fans here. In some ways, you're playing at home. The guys are excited to have that atmosphere here.

Jazz and Grisham were like “I got you” to the haters and they followed through

387

u/JerseyDvl New York Yankees 7d ago

The moment the lineup came out with Grisham batting leadoff in front of Rice you knew exactly how the game would end. It couldn't have ended any other way.

56

u/book_of_armaments Tampa Bay Devil Rays 7d ago

I'll say, it was pretty sweet having Grisham up instead of Uncle Ben at the end there.

Best part is all the fucking trash talking he did about how the Rays weren't gonna score any runs before Game 1 and continuing through to tonight.

His comment about the Yankees sending these frauds to bed was oddly prophetic, although he was wrong about who the frauds were. Of course, the coward has his comments hidden AND deleted them:

Hey, don't forget "do nothing at the trade deadline" either!

62

u/therealgranny New York Yankees 7d ago

Hey, we picked up a first baseman at the trade deadline. One that has another year of control preventing us from playing Ben Rice at that position requiring him to DH. Because he has to DH we have to play a 35 year injury prone giant in right field to get them both in the lineup. That’s definitely doing something.

Truly brain breaking. I’ve been on the side of “Boone gets more hate than he deserves” but this was crazy. And Cashman extending Grisham the QO last off-season was also crazy. I don’t ever want to think about Trent Grisham ever again. This will be the last time I ever type his name

Didn’t understand this move so I looked it up. Trent lifetime was 4/6 against Martinez coming in so Boone really thought he had something clever there. Moneyball!

Japanese pro wrestler Tomohiro Ishii. He probably lost a match and is doing as backstage interview. I forget the specific context, but this picture/quote of Ishii is kind of a meme for internet wrestling fans.

Side note: Ishii is one of the best wrestlers on the planet. Dude is like if Oddjob was a little shorter but still just as likely to fuck you up because he somehow won't stay down. If you've got 13 minutes, this is one of the best matches of all time & features him.

The Rays beating the Yankees and Red Sox every other year with a Little League team and a few volunteers on staff is hilarious.

122

u/EvilFlyingSquirrel Toronto Blue Jays 7d ago

I feel the Rays are one of the best run teams in all of sports. Small budget, but somehow pull pitchers out of nowhere year after year.

58

u/Apolloshot Toronto Blue Jays 7d ago

Part of me’s like “imagine if you gave them Saudi money” but then I wonder if it’s the constrained budget that makes them so good because necessity breeds innovation…

Like once we enter the salary cap era it wouldn’t surprise me if the Rays became the MLB’s Patriots.

95

u/ProperNomenclature 7d ago

I'm honestly surprised how little the Yankees tried to steal in this series. Part of that is the lack of baserunners, but they stole a lot during the regular season and had plenty of chances this series and the Rays struggled to throw out runners all year.

23

u/Braunb8888 7d ago

I think. It may be. That our manager is a fucking moron. Not stealing with jones is insane with jazz up. You know he’s swinging for the fences. Their catcher can’t throw.

To leadoff Trent Grisham, who seems INCAPABLE of hitting anything, as your Hail Mary move, resulting in him ending the season, is malpractice.

Aaron Boone hit a dumb luck home run 20+ years ago and because of that I’ve had to see the career of the greatest RH hitter of all time waste away to nothing.

Same bullshit every year and nothing will change because the entire org is so far up their own asses that they think they’re right.

278

u/Kip-Kat Boston Red Sox 7d ago

I, for one, think Boone is a great manager and you guys should extend him for 10 more years

66

u/Dunder-MifflinPaper New York Yankees 7d ago

The fact that Chad Tracy out-stupid’d him in those two games is honestly a monumental accomplishment. That’s really hard to do.
