Hey baseball is like that sometimes. You outscore one opponent 17-2 just to get swept in heartbreaking fashion the next.

At least we got the opponents correct. If we had slammed the Rays 17-2 and then got swept by the Sox it would've been way worse.

I mean that would've been like Crack cocaine to me

That's the thing that blew me away the most. Maybe the hate over in Boston just fuels them?

As a former Boston fan for decades, yeah that hate fuels me to this day

Damn this is a sad pic. Whats the context here?

Japanese pro wrestler Tomohiro Ishii. He probably lost a match and is doing as backstage interview. I forget the specific context, but this picture/quote of Ishii is kind of a meme for internet wrestling fans.

Side note: Ishii is one of the best wrestlers on the planet. Dude is like if Oddjob was a little shorter but still just as likely to fuck you up because he somehow won't stay down. If you've got 13 minutes, this is one of the best matches of all time & features him.

As soon as I saw the link, I said to myself, “This has gotta be the Shibata match, right?” Can’t even remember how many times I’ve watched this match, but dammit I’m watching it again.

It's no Ibushi vs Yoshihiko but it's REALLY good.

Did not expect to see a NJPW explanation here. Very cool

Shibata-Ishii

Omega/Hangman vs. The Young Bucks

RVD vs. Cena

The top three matches to get someone into pro wrestling.

the dude in the picture, Ishii, lost his belt to a man named EVIL. EVIL was the leader of a faction that was notorious for interference. The match is 12 minutes long, 10 minutes of Ishii being beat up by everyone in the group. He gets about a minute or so of offense, then beat up again and loses his title. It was also at a really big show in a super important stadium (think the Madison Square Garden of Japan) and is usually considered the worst match of Ishii's career, of which there are very few matches like that for him.

The match is not good, in case you were curious. but it did spawn this popular wrestling meme so yay?

You people can't hurt me more than Aaron Boone, Jazz Chisolm and Trent Grisham already did.

It is very impressive that this is only (tied for) the second longest gap between World Series wins for the Yankees considering how long they've been around.

Aww. Here, friend. Here's a sharp dressed Ishii playing the love interest in a J-Pop video to try and lift your spirits

Ironic because there won’t be a next year because of you guys lmao

I mean, Yankees started it, Red Sox flirted with it for a little bit, and LAD took the baton and ran. Y'all could have at least passed it to one of us on the way across country. Lol

The Yankees being that team is ancient history by this point, though. Like, not even trying to dog them, but they just haven't been the Bankees for like a quarter of a century almost.

1

u/theAmericanX20 Cleveland Guardians 6d ago

Lol you know what they're 2026 payroll is? 342.8 mil. Only LAD and NYM were higher. They're still the "bankees" they just get injured a lot or whatever their issue is. Don't act like they're some broke ass franchise. I will give you that they have been home grown talent a bit more than they were in the hay-day, but yeah, no, they're still spending like mad.

That's just it, though. There wouldn't be "only LAD and NYM" with the Yankees of 25 years ago. They'd be outspending literally everyone to win. That's my entire point. They still pull great players away from other franchises with big paychecks, but it's halfhearted compared to the ship George used to run.
