History/Culture 99x NOW. Radio 100.5 format tweaks

• Upvotes

Is anyone else enjoying this format change? They are rotating more new indie/alt music into their playlist. I'm digging it. For instance, they are playing Fontaines DC . I'd like even more new music and less oldies alternative. But I'll take it. At least they are playing music from this decade.

Crime/Police How dangerous is this area of Atlanta at night? Am I safe to walk solo?

In a couple of weeks, I’m headed to a concert in Atlanta and I plan to take a Greyhound there. I need to determine whether or not it’s worth it to pay for an Uber both ways or if walking / taking the bus would be safe enough. Are there any specific streets to avoid? Any recommendations?

EDIT: I’m a 6’4, average build white male. I’m used to rougher areas but nothing like Atlanta. Probably gonna find an alternative to the Greyhound but I still appreciate feedback.

Things to Do Flint River Block Parties

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey yall! I saw the Atlanta Regional Commission is hosting two block parties in Jonesboro and Hapeville to get input on what happens in the Flint Riverway Corridor. This could include new trail systems and other recreation activities along the Flint. The Flint is such an important waterway, so make sure your voice is heard. Free food too!

Things to Do Crafting Girlies in Sandy Springs

Hey ladies! 💕 I live in Sandy Springs and am looking to expand my social circle! I love crafting and thought it would be fun to get a group of girls together at a cute coffee shop or bar to craft, chat, and hang out!

I’m thinking Sundays or weekday evenings, depending on what works for everyone. Nothing that requires a regular commitment, just something fun we can plan whenever schedules align!

Just wanted to see if anyone would be interested! 😊

Edit… WOW! I’m so pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming interest! 🥹💕
I know there are other crafting groups around Atlanta, but after sitting through traffic to get to them, I wanted to create something more convenient for us Sandy Springs ladies!
I went ahead and called Mutation Brewing (5825 Roswell Road NE) and gave them a heads-up that a group of us may be coming Monday, October 19, starting at 7 PM! They said we’re absolutely welcome!
Of course, this is completely free! I just encourage everyone to support the venue by grabbing a drink or something to eat while we’re there! 🍻
Feel free to pop in whenever! I’ll be there at 7, and they close at 10. You’re welcome to come earlier or stay for as little or as long as you’d like!
Just excited to get together with like-minded ladies, work on our crafts, and enjoy a relaxed evening! 🧶✨

Question SwissWatchExpo - Past/Current Employee Opinions

• Upvotes

Hello all! I was recently contacted by someone from this company for a watchmaking position. Upon looking up reviews on GlassDoor, I saw that the consensus was "RUN FAST AND RUN FAR". However, watchmaking jobs are slim pickings and I am interested in the position. Though, I don't want to up and move if it turns out the reviews are true.

So, does anyone have any opinions on working with or for SwissWatchExpo? I already made a huge move to Nashville for watchmaking and I don't want to go to the trouble of moving again for nothing.

Question Father Christmas at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta. They no longer do this?

I remember a good number of years ago, Phipps Plaza during the holidays would do an old school “Father Christmas” instead of the more stereotypical Santa Claus. This version had a huge wood walking stick, a long blackish robe with ornamentation along the edges, etc. More of the old European father Christmas look. He almost looked more like an old wizard than what a lot of kids and people in the US think of as Santa. They would be booked up for months ahead of time before Christmas for people to get pictures of him with their kids.

I was trying to find some pictures to send to a family member of him but now when I do searches for it, it seems to show a guy who I guess has been doing it for a few years now (?) who has a much more traditional Santa look to him. Does anybody remember the old father Christmas at Phipps, and does anyone have any good photos of him from that time.?

Recommendations Patient Driving instructor needed for anxious teen

I have an anxious 17 year old daughter who has high functioning autism. She's very smart and capable but gets overwhelmed easily and is anxious about driving. She had 3 lessons at A-1 driving and it was a horrible experience. The instructor was impatient and very rude. This is a life skill that is imperative for her to learn and while my husband has worked with her a little, I believe she will do better with a professional who is patient. We're in the Mableton/Austell area but im open to surrounding areas for someone whom she will benefit from. Thank you.

Question Netherworld vs Terror Mills ?

Hey all! I'm trying to pick between going to Netherworld vs Terror Mills Haunted house. I went to Netherworld as a teenager and dont remember it being all that scary. Is Terror Mills better? I know as an adult Haunted Houses are more for fun and games, but I still would like some good jump scares. If it makes any difference, I'm going with my S/O and it is their first time going to a Haunted House, I want it to be good for them!

Question Best Pull a Part style junk yard?

I'm looking for the kind of junk yard where they have older vehicles and are set up for you to go pull parts off of cars and pay by the part. Extra helpful if there are cars and trucks from the 60s there. Is there anything like that, even in the greater-greater metro area?

Things to Do Looking for live music but soul and rnb!

My lady and I were listening to some Luther the other night and she said it's a shame we'll never get to hear that music live.

While obviously we can't hear the original, are there any places with live music that has cover bands play soul and rnb? I'm hoping it can be decently busy with some good drinks!

I want us to go out like our parents used to.

Politics Interim Inspector General LaDawn Blackett likely to be appointed permanently

Atlanta's interim inspector general – who was hand picked by Mayor Andre Dickens – looks likely to be appointed to that role permanently, without having to go through a competitive candidate search.

Dickens appointed interim IG LaDawn Blackett within two weeks of the resignation of former IG Shannon Manigault, who was, at the time, conducting several investigations into the Dickens administration.

The Governing Board of the Office of the Inspector General had opened a 60-day public comment period regarding Blackett's pending appointment. The comment period ends Dec. 7, 2026.

Written comments can be directed to OIGBoard@atlantaga.gov.

Traffic Heads up: Trump landing at Dobbins to go to Dalton.

Friday from roughly noon till 4pm. Unless he has functions in both locations, based on the flight restrictions now posted, it appears he's landing at Dobbins and going to Dalton. Hopefully via Marine One, but possibly via motorcade. Either way, expect traffic issues in the region.
