Top Republicans Privately Concede House Is Likely Lost, Blame Trump for Midterm Collapse: Report
https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/republicans-fear-democrats-could-win-house-1825570295
u/Beneficial_Bit_6435 12h ago
Exactly. I’m surprised the race for the senate majority is still so close. It is baffling when the average voter chooses the GOP when they only represent special interest groups and wealthy top1%
157
u/RandomStrangerOnWWW 12h ago
Baffles me that these folks literally vote against their own best interests in election after election.
73
u/faintly_nebulous 12h ago
They consider culture war stuff to be their "deeply held values" and think that's what they are voting on. And while they'll definitely be tossed some red meat like ICE, they're mostly voting for someone to empty their pockets to give more to the already rich.
33
u/LandonDev 12h ago
Conservatives have and will continue to vote against their children's future and erase all hopes of upward mobility for them. Just remember, Liberals are hated more than any love they have, so they will always choose hate when given the choice. It's what they are as a culture and people. Their kids lost health insurance, and my bills went up, yet they think it was a winning plan.
13
u/Hartstockz 11h ago
Thats the thing. They don't love their children. You literally can't love your children if you won't do what's best by them.

Even though all the democrat senatorial candidates are all incredibly moderate when it comes to those kinds of “cultural values issues”.
The Fox News/Rush Limbaugh propaganda machine that has been brainwashing people since the 90’s has been incredibly effective and still seems to be.

Identity politics
21
u/renb8 11h ago
Yes. And conflating loyalty with politics like they would with a local sports team. Identity is a big part of sports loyalty. Politics is not sport. From where I am across the pond, US politics is being run as a reality tv show.

I’m reminded of this every time I see polling for Paxton vs Talarico. The fact that Paxton is still polling so well despite all of the confirmed corruption and scandals around him really proves that it’s all just team sports for many voters
7
u/AapChutiyaHai 9h ago
Being from Texas I don't understand this either. People will literally vote red just to own the libs? I mean we are still doing that? Check your wallet, bank balances, groceries, etc. These people have done nothing.

yes this is the answer, identity politics. maga has mastered that. but material conditions are not in their favor, and their base is feeling it (consumer price inflation rose to 3.7% in September)

u/One_Distribution2037 12h ago
As El-Sayed said, "I don't need you to like me, I need you to like you."
A brilliant statement. Like, "I'm trying to help you out, whether you like me or not is nice. Vote accordingly."

I agree. Every election the Con's just rattle the latest culture war boogeyman stick to scare people.
This election it's 'trans kids in sports', which is like 0.000001% of the population.
27

All to own the libs and laugh. If they only knew their stupidity has forced everyone to participate in this awful reality show known as survivor.
25
u/DeekALeek 12h ago
A common quote I’ve been seeing from r/LeopardsAteMyFarm (paraphrasing):
“You can own the family farm, you can own the libs, but you can’t own both.”

u/ottwebdev 12h ago
People voted for Brexit and only looked up what it would mean after the vote.
Its not unheard of.
4
u/Significant_Map5533 12h ago
That was by design. Don’t overlook the fact that Cambridge Analytica, Russia, and everyone else rooting for instability in western democracies used the propaganda blitz leading up to the Brexit vote as a dry run for the US elections held five months later.

u/BothRequirement2826 12h ago
That they are, which is why all the logic and evidence in the world will never work on a depressingly large amount of people.
6
u/SylphSeven 12h ago
Those voters believe in the lies and think Republicans will help them specifically, not the people they despise.
That's the key difference. They don't want to help everyone, only some who are "more deserving."
5
u/noncommonGoodsense 12h ago
Just “my team forever” types that are ignorantly set in their ways and can’t think for themselves. It’s easier to just go with the crowd than to think for yourself. These people are the perfect example of that. Of course there are other reasons like racism and rape culture that keeps them towing the party lines for the R’s as well.

Calm geo politics lead to stable prices. A properly functioning government leads to breakups of monopolies and regulation that helps keep water clean, air breathable, and again, stable prices.
Less culture war and bullshit out there leads to happier populations which in turn can increase living standards and GDP.

And they have done so for decades and decades. Generation after generation of people nailing their own feet to the floor and running why they can’t run as fast as their predecessors. Here’s a hint: it’s because your predecessors accepted certain compromises to ensure upward mobility and improving standards that benefited everyone, themselves included.

The senate only elects a third of its membership every 2 years, and the current map this year strongly favors Republicans.
The fact that Democrats are likely to make gains against that map is an incredible shift, and sets them up for a deep Senate majority in 2028.
5
u/Frogspoison 12h ago
There are far less truely blue/leftist states then there are deeply red, next-to-no population red states. When the empty west has just as much say in the senate as the hyper-populated northeast, you can really see why the US is such a right-wing country on a global scale. In the Senate, land votes, and the rural land is deep red.
While republican senators have the most seats up for re-election this round, most of those seats are in deep red states.

I’ll get a bunch of people raging the usual responses at me but it truly speaks to how awful the democrats have been and how broken our system is. We vote D because we think it’s the lesser of two evils. Conservatives vote a R for the exact same reason

Right. Only when people vote for the GOP, those GOP dont represent the average American voter. You have TACO looking out only for himself and stealing billions, and being controlled by Russia and China, yet the GOP in congress won’t use their power to hold TACO responsible. Yet so many GOP running for re-election will win their seats.
Voters need to think critically. I know it’s difficult as I have some MAGAt family members as well. I have given up on them, and dont interact with them because they don’t make any sense

They can blame themselves. They're the ones up for re-election.
If they had been, I dunno, pushing back on Trump's insanity and doing veto proof majority legislation by working with Democrats, then Trump wouldn't be a factor.
If they'd support impeachment and showing evidence, their jobs wouldn't be up for grabs.
When Nixon was forced to resign, the Republican party didn't go with him. Remember how popular Reagan was when he ran for office?
If they hadn't decided to all be beta bottoms for Trump, they wouldn't be on the verge of being fired by the voters.
Voters want them to solve problems, not create new ones by rubber stamping the toddler war criminal in diapers in-chief.
10
u/unaskthequestion 12h ago
Exactly. They have proven themselves to be cowards. There's pretty consistent reporting, going back to his first term, that republicans in office will privately say they hate him, that he's incompetent, etc. But they're afraid to cross him, even for the worst things he does
8
u/Grouchy_Coconut_5463 12h ago
All of this. They can blame Trump all they want but last I checked he wasn’t an author nor contributor to Project 2025; he’s just the rabid dog they loosed to terrorize the neighborhood and refuse to put down.
27
u/qst4 12h ago edited 11h ago
These Republicans shouldn't blame Trump for anything. They had every opportunity to vote against people like Hegseth, vote against DOGE, which made zero improvement and likely cost the government money, and did nothing to properly reform the ACA. The opportunities for them to show character, competence, and commitment go on and on. Yet at every opportunity, they bent the knee to stupidity.
9
u/zepher2828 12h ago
They passed the BBB which enabled him to do whatever he wants, they are culpable in all of this.
5
u/AnyBug1039 11h ago

They are a spineless useless bunch at best.
20
u/milelongpipe 10h ago
The republicans can blame Trump all they want for their upcoming loss at midterms, but they need to look at themselves as well. It’s the Republican-controlled House and Senate which let Trump run amok.

The way they’ve let Trump try and white wash his misdeeds, while allowing him to fuck everything up is the biggest betrayal to the country since the civil war. They need to be cast out and banned from public life for good. Fucking traitors.
3
u/Qprime0 9h ago
There's a part of me that refuses to not believe this is some kind of sleeper culture war born of the damage done by everything from the civil war through desegregation. There's an honest to god belief in parts of this country that they'd rather burn it all down than see equality realized -- and that part really caught fire when obama was elected.
I just pray that it burns itself out after this.

Do not think we have won.
Do not think conservatives wouldnt burn down every establishment to maintain power.
Do not believe their lies.

3
u/wahwahwashbear 7h ago
To be frank I never understand this perspective. Not that I don't believe you that this is the intent, just that I in general can't believe it works - hearing "yay it looks like we're gonna beat em!" isn't demotivating... If it looked like dems were slated to lose, that would ve demotivating. Why bother, the world is going to hell and everyone agrees with the bad guys, etc. Hearing "hey it looks like your side is motivated and prevailing!" is the most motivating thing I could possibly hear.
Edit: spelling
5
u/PresentOlive4845 6h ago

Do something, stand for something anything that helps the American people then you can complain about someone else.

Republicans are desperately trying to focus ALL the blame on Trump, when it is their policies causing the problems. If all the anger and hate is directed at Trump, they can continue to implement Project 2025 unhindered. And, as long as they let Trump take all the credit, he doesn't care what they do. Trump is an awful, disgusting piece of shit of a human being, but he is NOT running the show. The entire party is the problem, but Republicans are happy to let him take the blame.

This is very obviously a “duh” statement. Trump was much more popular in 2018 than he is now. His approval rating that fall was around 40–42%, yet Republicans decisively lost the midterms, giving up 41 House seats. The Senate map was also heavily favorable to Republicans, much like this election, and they actually gained two seats. The inverse happened in 2022, when a favorable Democratic Senate map helped them maintain a 50–50 split.
Now, Trump’s approval is in the low 30s and trending downward. The economy is in much worse shape than it was in 2018, in many ways directly because of Trump’s own actions. He’s also making one unforced error after another.
I think Democrats will flip the House by a 50-seat margin, which could be even larger without Republican gerrymandering. I also think Democrats will flip the Senate, gaining 4–7 seats to reach a 51–54 seat majority. A net gain of 4–7 seats on this map would be insane.

u/spendmoreondisinfo 9h ago

Its not just Trumps fault. Their stance is that his policies were effective thus taking ownership of that policy. So in other words, they have nobody to blame but themselves and their own crapshoot ideas because their own opinion and their voters opinions are trash. MAGA is an unmitigated disaster. They tossed data driven decision making out the window and governed with emotions and anger and destroyed America's standing and trajectory in the world.

Trump only exists as a politician because these chuds have spent a decade enabling him and refusing to hold him accountable. They've had numerous opportunities to cut ties and cast him off, hell there was a time doing so could have made them look like heroes by putting country before party, but instead they have double and tripled down. So blaming Trump is just blaming themselves for being little chickenshits.

There are Christian people who believe the Repubs banned abortion so they use that as why they continue to support them. Abortion numbers have gone up under Trump. 99% of them won't take the time to actually look into anything.
2
u/boblabon 12h ago
If they actually cared about abortion or babies they would support free and accessible birth control, subsidized childcare, subsidized housing for parents, free school lunches, free healthcare for children, etc etc.
It's about punishing women. Women dying from sepsis isn't a bug, it's a feature. Forcing women to drive out of state and pay way more for abortions is intentional. Forcing women to have more children than they can afford and punish them for it is the whole point.
