Hello Freelancers, it's been about a month since I posted this so I thought it'd be a good time for an update. Adding to the amazing progress from Project Coda and some optimism about Anthem being preserved.

Progress from the last post:
- About 4 km x 4 km around Fort Tarsis, rebuilt from the game files: cliffs, jungle, waterfalls, the (outside of the) fort. ~160,000 placed objects.

- Rebuilt the lighting system from the Godot defaults into (largely) the game's own. Sun, sky, fog (kill me), reflections and shadows at all times of day.

- Water and mist (kill me some more): Waterfalls, pools and the mist at the falls look much closer to the real game. Animation is still pretty jank but it looks *so* much better now 😄

- Ranger is flyable using the game's actual movement numbers.

- Anything you can see in the screenshots that are bright pink is missing something from the game or isn't wired up yet. Most of the test area was pink at the last update, now it's about 15%.

- About 1,500 changes in 30 days, including a complete rebuild of the map using the actual export tool.

Good evening, afternoon or morning, Freelancers who are still in this community that means so much to me

Like every 12th of each month, I return here to remember this game that meant so much to me, and today is no exception..Around this time of year, approximately, the Season of Skulls event used to be activated. An interesting event that promised so much, and whose last edition in 2025 had a rather bittersweet taste for me and for most of you..

today i wanted to tell you that I think I no longer feel the need to return here every 12th to remember what this game was to us..I came to the conclusion that thinking about it every 12th, smiling or simply thinking for a few minutes about it and about what could have been, is a much more authentic and personal way to keep it alive than complying with a monthly reminder…It's not that I'm tired or anything like that, I simply no longer feel it's necessary to do this to keep it present in our day to day..Keeping that consistency for months was my way of processing the loss of something I truly enjoyed.

My litte tribute already existed and the mark remained, and will remain forever…...

I guess, Anthem doesn't live in a Reddit reminder post.. it lives in the impact it had on you, in the moments you enjoyed flying through Bastion and in what you shared with your friends flying and completing missions…....The true value of the experiences that mark us ..whether it's a game, a book or a stage of life, is not in demonstrating it to others, but in what they left within ourselves

I guess every 12th that I came back wasn't just to not forget it, because forgetting a game like this is impossible, it will always remain in us in one way or another

“The Eddian Grove is one of the places the flora and fauna are able to flourish to their maximum potential. Apart from all the water, sunlight and oxygen over there; it’s home to multiple shaper relic spawns which in part add to the growth of what’s over there. As beautiful as it is, it’s a prime place for Scars, Outlaws and Dominion to be in. Yet, we see Scars more since Blackshore is right above it. I saw a family of Grabbits playing with some Saurians. Cute. Almost makes it seem that everything else isn’t out to kill you.”

Happy Freelancer Friday! As you all know, Anthem as we knew it before is gone, but, we’re all kinds of stubborn and we don’t take a loss sitting down. There’s amazing people here, creating and re-creating the game we loved so that we can all experience the feeling once more. The work that’s been put in, countless days and nights with progression that one couldn’t believe. I thank everyone, that is working hard on this and I thank this community. The positivism in here is amazing, and I’m grateful for this place I can unwind and talk about the game I love.

Anyways, the weekend is here! Hope you all have a great one with family, friends, loved ones or be able to have alone time to have peace of mind. Be good, because being good is a strength and what we all know here by now is that if we are strong alone, we are stronger together.

theres a lot more work to do. AI behaviour... is clunky at best. not a priority right now. no item drops, incoming damage isn't working properly, npc enemies aim at the rifle muzzle instead of the player, wyverns. and etc etc

Quick question, with all these games being reverse engineered like the Spiderman and Arkham Knight to be played together, or the most recent one, the Mario Galaxy running native on pc, there should be a way for Anthem to be client sided instead of running on servers?

What are your thoughts on that?

I know we can't know anything for sure right now, but if Anthem could be brought back by the community, is there any thoughts or ideas of how the cosmetics would work? Could they be implemented to be freely obtainable or just outright given to everyone to mess around with? Wasn't there some premium currency and things you could only get via purchase?

“The weather has gotten gloomier at nights. I wonder what’s going bump in the night when all of these glowing skorpions come out to play. Some Arcanist reported to have seen dead flesh and bones by the Abyssal Loch and other parts as well. As always, Fort Tarsis sets up a massive skull by the launch bay. Feels unusually festive … as festive a giant skull with flame pillars on the sides will feel like.”

The weekend is here and we get to be with family, friends or by ourselves to get a little peace of mind. I helped an elderly lady the other day by making her laugh and she told me she desperately needed one. The little things. Strong alone, stronger together! 🍻

I remember seeing a post on here a few months ago that EA was offloading this game and it wasn’t going to available again for download. Came across this in my library and wanted to see if it were true and well… it’s downloading.

I’ll give an update on how it goes.

Yes I was part of the few that bought the preorder DLC

I know I’m late to the party, but I just got my freedom, living on my own, my pc is in for repairs rn so I thought I’d boot up the old Xbox One, and put in my disc for Anthem, only to find out they put it down.

I feckin LOVED this game, I put hundreds of hours into it till I got bored, but it was so much fun, and honestly it hurts, this is the first game I’ve played where the servers are officially done, and it was one of my favorites.

A lot of other games I play where the player bases is either really small, or have had problems in the pass, which cause the player bases to make private servers, like the Northstar client. Have we made or do we have any plans to make private servers to keep running the game?

I did not play the story much, I had no idea this javelin existed.

Watched a let's play and found out about this javelin and how it's not playable.

The good news is: it is fully rigged and should be able to be playable using the Colossus' animations.

I'm still figuring out textures, I can play animations on the interceptor and have a sandbox to play with but I want it to look good before showing anything, rn it looks like a Roblox game...

Ubisoft teased something new and it kind of looks Anthem-like in my opinion. Maybe not but it's worth keeping an eye on

Such a loss for this game knowing it's current state, would have been a blast to play again.

I played too little to enjoy it to the fullest, but the few memories i have rose back up again.

“Come to think of it, if Scars are like cockroaches, then they feel safer working in the dark of night. Having to deal with Scars Enforcer and Scar Hunters while resetting a Strider in the middle in the darkness is not the best idea. A dirty job that must be done, like from that old TV show on the educational channel! ‘Dirty Jobs with-‘ … someone. Maybe I’ll ask Commander Vule, he looks like he’d know the name of the commentator of that show. Right now, time to take care of a roach infestation.”

Looking back at this gameplay it made me see how much detail the lighting in this game had. The way the red hues of the Scar mines caress your armor when approaching them, when the bullet fire light envelopes your gun for a quick second, the thrusters in highlighting the parts of the suit when you’re in the dark; too beautiful! Even when unleashing your Ultimate Ability and you see the explosion lights cover areas with light on the enemies or landscape.

Hey everyone, first time writing in the channel and I feel like people working on bringing playable version of the game back are not transparent enough and that brings a lot of frustration among the community.

I started to work on bringing a playable version of Anthem back, simply walking, running and flying but even that small project is very painful to do.

The reason for this is that EA has a very specific way to encode their files, this means we need to decode meshes, textures, animations, etc. I managed to decode meshes and skeletons. I’m still working on the animation and it’s the hardest part since I started this project.

Once you have an exploitable mesh + animation making a demo of the game is pretty easy but yeah, as someone working on bringing the game back this is what I saw as being the hardest part. So I figured out decoding/decrypting is probably where other devs are stuck since bringing the game back is just really decoding every file and then recoding it.

I hope we can bring a playable version of Anthem back soon, and I also wanted to express my own frustration regarding transparency of people working on bringing Anthem back, the community wants to know badly what we’re working on, even a picture of an extracted mesh would make the community excited at this point so if you’re a dev reading this, please consider showing more of what you do to the community, we’re all very thankful for what you guys do :)
