Fanworks Anthem Digital Perseveration

Hello fellow Freelancers! Since the servers were shutdown I've been looking into reading the Anthem PC client files back into a reference world (aka a port to Godot).

What's working so far:

- The Fort Tarsis exterior and the gorge out to around Gathering Falls (about 3.5km/square from the free play spawn platform)
- All javelins export fully skinned with their default skins, walking, running and flying animations.

The one thing still out of reach is the flight model. It ran client-side but the executable is encrypted so for now it's going to be reconstructed. If that ever becomes readable....different story. :) For now, progress screenshots attached.

Did you port the models to a godot project or are you recreating them in Godot?

I am a layman so I don't know if my question is even worded right.

some of it is porting, some of it is re-creating. Just doing what i can with the gamefiles I had saved!

If only they'd added the ability to host your own games before they killed it.

I still have the full game file on my pc and it will never leave. If I can ever send something to help I would GLADLY. not really sure if that's helpful for what's being talked about here but I would love to see this project progress

Man I miss this game. No it wasn't perfect and it had issues but it is still one of the best mech suit games I have played and I loved the flying and movement, and combat. When my.griends and I played i had a ton of fun. I played as a Ranger because it was the worst mech but I was good at it and I liked the challenge.

Have you looked into any encryption reading/breaking software? Wonder if theres a way to unlock that... The flight model is obviously super important. Either way its more than I've done!

Why Godot? Wouldn't an engine like Unity/Unreal have been more suited to this? Just curious

Although it would probably be easier, gotta admire the FOSS approach here. And with how trigger happy legal departments of game companies are these days, it is probably for the best.

Apart from it being open source, I already had tooling from another preservation project (Fractured Space) that I’m adapting to this (admittedly much more complicated) job

So will this be a total re-creation of Anthem inside of Godot or a just a port using replacing EA Servers with Godot?

Godot is the engine, no servers here! So it’s a port. I don’t know what the ceiling is for how much of the game can be carried over but it’s early days so who knows 🤞🏼

I love this game and really want this (of all things) to be remade/remastered/reimagined. IDGAF, just give me the best worst BioWare letdown

Can’t promise anything apart from giving it a red hot crack 😅

To be clear: CODA is the best hope of the actual game returning properly.

Give me another year or three of this autodidactic awakening I've been experiencing and I'll take a sure swing at just remaking/remastering the damn game by myself...

My question is when the people finally finish reviving the game is will I need to buy a game key?? Or would it be a free to download?

u/zillatron27 Sep 15 '26

The game isn’t for sale anymore so you can’t give EA money even if you wanted to!

What I’m doing will be 100% open source/non-profit if you have the game files.

CODA will be entirely free and current plans are to make as much of it open source as possible (obviously we can't open source proprietary assets of BioWare/EA - but the private server, etc. are of our own design and can be run against publicly available client files.)

I voted for it to be done on GOG. But in comparison to other games, its not getting alot of traction. Doubtful that EA and Biosoft would let it go either.
