The animation of the fight went kinda hard, pleasantly surprised

78

u/FelixAndCo 7d ago

Last episode too. Big step up from last season. You don't see that often.

49

u/TheBusStop12 7d ago

They really honed their skills (and budget) working on Shangri-La Frontier, which generally has top notch animation and fight choreography

67

u/Allian42 7d ago edited 7d ago

It's been too long since the last time I saw actual sword fighting choreography in an anime. It's all big skill cannons lately.

34

u/epicfail1994 7d ago

From Old Country Bumpkin To Master Swordsman is a really good one

8

u/Twilight053 7d ago

It didn't go hard enough tbh, it ended up being big skill vs big skill near the end and little about technique usage

7

u/Earlier-Today 6d ago

Yeah, I found the first season to be a lot better choreographed.

-9

u/Izakryeon 7d ago

Also it was all lifeless CGI. This at least is hand drawn.

-10

u/ImaginaryStatus4073 7d ago

Also it had no plot.

8

u/vantheman9 7d ago

characters taking turns throwing giant blobs of color at each other gets pretty old, yeah

37

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 7d ago

Tbh in S1, rewatching the animation was better than I remembered. C2C leveled up sometime after they did Tsukimichi S1.

Obviously SLF took it to another level given it will have more investment. Pretty happy that C2C stuck with this. Considering how much Ln content there is for the series they can always come back to this when they nearly catch up on the manga for SLF again.

1

u/Ending-Fool 7h ago

"catch up on the manga for SLF again"
LOL, LMAO even, HAHAHA if true

I dont think theyre catching up anytime soon considering theres 164 chapters as of now from the end of season 2 to the recent manga chapter

Yeah I am hoping more people would pick it up as it's been peak.

9

u/mmcjawa_reborn 7d ago

I remember watching the first season a year ago or so. Did the action always look this good?

Was bracing for a let down after Skeleton Knight's weaker second season, not expecting an upgrade.

138

u/ThisGachaSeemsLegit 7d ago

All those action scenes... Is budget-kun going to be alright? (;°д°)

55

u/TheBusStop12 7d ago

Hopefully they made a lot of money from Shangri-la Frontier and can blow a lot of it on this (and Shangri-la Frontier S3 next year)

17

u/beginnerflipper 7d ago

I think Shangri-la s2 made money. I saw figurines of it in Japan

1

u/Ending-Fool 7h ago

it got featured in tokyo game show. Thats like a badge of "This shit is printing me money by the second" type of thing

26

u/HolyDragSwd2500 7d ago

Budget kun: Time for Floor Boss 9

28

u/Allian42 7d ago

People complain about CG zombies, but if it helps budget-kun be well rested for the boss fights, I'm ok with it.

19

u/Jacob-C 7d ago

I don't know, but it looked sick!

In all seriousness, G2C has been a competent studio in recent years. In these first two episodes, I feel like they've done a good job of holding back on the animation when it's appropriate and ramping it up when it counts.

12

u/goddessofthewinds https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiritOfTheWinds 7d ago

For real, the quality of the animation is so good. I'm really impressed with this one. There are many more animes that you would expect a much higher budget but that ends up with subpar animations, but this is top notch.

This is better than most isekai. This really does justice to the source material. I've been loving this serie (and season). I got kinda bored of Slime, but this is honestly high quality stuff. I never get tired of Fran and Shishou. I think Jean is also a pretty nice secondary character, I'm really enjoy him and his weird summons lol.

Anyways, the action scenes were god damn epic. This quality is very rare.

129

u/Accurate_Treat6360 7d ago

Fran realized she had to share her curry with others.

Fran isn't letting anyone join her party.

41

u/HolyDragSwd2500 7d ago

Stephan soon will try some of curry too

27

u/Cass0wary_399 7d ago

Stephan is so cute

17

u/mischievous_shota 7d ago

Though the poor boy whose form Stephan has taken suffered so much.

13

u/YRO___ 6d ago edited 3d ago

It seems like the two bosses at the end of the episode were the two friends who were also tortured, one losing his eye and the other getting scars all over her body.

27

u/Allian42 7d ago

Fran is absolutely split between letting others experience the splendor of teacher's curry, and just hoarding it for herself, lol.

106

u/KumaKumaGambler 7d ago

The flashback to the memories of the diary's author makes me feel there is going to be a big reveal soon.

Jean and/or Stefan may be hiding something. Perhaps I am overly suspicious of Jean teaching Fran and Teacher how to overcome his Soul Eye by gaining the skill Camouflage?

The boss of level 8 and 9 are the friends of the diary's author, aren't they? The female with scars and the male who lost an eye.

74

u/pashkoff 7d ago

Redhead with a braid on the left side. Skeleton warrior with missing right eye. At least these elements check out.

41

u/Elrond_Halfelven 7d ago

redhead also had the same scars

48

u/Kartoffelkamm 7d ago

Well, Stefan, after taking over the Undead Eater's body, took on its original appearance, namely that of the diary's author, and he still has the diary with him. Plus, the symbol of the group that made him is on the outside of the dungeon.

30

u/mekerpan 7d ago

Yes. I am suspecting something too. But I have no clue as to what.

5

u/Hellknightx 6d ago

The only thing I can think of that would make sense is if Jean was the one doing the experiments in the flashbacks.

14

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai 7d ago

Thought the same.. that's just sad

10

u/VritraReiRei 7d ago

Dear God, please let them join the team in the end! I don't want to peek ahead so please let them have a happy end, especially when they appear in the opening!

4

u/Ikari_21 7d ago

That’s what I’m hoping for too, they lived a horrible life, give them some fun times plz 😭

3

u/Hot-Log6283 7d ago

Perhaps I am overly suspicious of Jean teaching Fran and Teacher how to overcome his Soul Eye by gaining the skill Camouflage?

I assume he isn't worry any more since he have already learnt their "secret", so no use being able to use Soulsight on them any more.

103

u/ChoiceSupermarket230 https://myanimelist.net/profile/say99 7d ago

It’s nice to see that, unlike the other season 2s isekai this year, this one actually manages to maintain the same level of quality as the first season.

43

u/bb2b 7d ago

This is how you animate fight scenes without recapping the episode.

The fights are also way crunchier

15

u/Razor4884 7d ago

And the choreography was pretty neat. I enjoyed it more than most.

33

u/APRengar 7d ago

Really want to highlight the direction as well. The jokes like Selkam being set up as like a master thief who will disarm traps, only to find out he's just kinda tanking them had great comedic timing.

So happy we have a good adaptation.

21

u/mischievous_shota 7d ago

He was doing both, right? His level at disarming wasn't that high so he was triggering what he couldn't disarm.

5

u/Askaa_kun https://anilist.co/user/AskaaCH0 6d ago

Oh there was never a worry when it comes to the jokes direction, since this show is directed by the fairy tail director. So he knows how to make the jokes land well.

3

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 5d ago

I thought the same! Like I couldn't help but compare this to Skeleton isekai as they had very similar vibe. Yet, this one is still exciting after season 2.

3

u/2w0be 2d ago

Saga of Tanya the Evil?

1

u/theblazingsword 6d ago

Definitely, I'm enjoying this one much more than I did Skeleton Knight last season.

-13

u/RedLikeARose 7d ago

I dont know, the random boss one is looking pretty alright to me

But the quality on that was not very high anyway iirc

74

u/MynamuEzJJ 7d ago

Why is fran the absolute cutest thing ever 😍😍!!!!!!

I have no idea why but it just hits the cute button so well!! Maybe it's because the va does such a good job bringing Fran to life. She can be cute when eating curry or deadly when fighting. Her range of emotions are all over the place and it's so endearing!!

44

u/Jacob-C 7d ago

Honestly, I couldn't imagine a better voice for her. The VA is really doing the role justice and then some. Also, the concept of a sentient sword being her best friend and guardian, and the one she respects more than anyone else, is really endearing. Fran's reactions and kuudere demeanor add a lot too.

34

u/chrisff1989 7d ago

Crazy that this is the same VA as Eris from Mushoku Tensei

5

u/KinoHiroshino 4d ago

Ai Kakuma. I’ve been a fan of hers for a while now since she voices my favorite ship girl from Azur Lane, Takao. Looking at her you can see that our girl got some crazy range!

But honestly, if I had to pick her best role ever, it’d have to be her voicing 50 Cent.

1

u/Mr_Pogi_In_Space 2d ago

She is both Takao and Unicorn! You're right about the range

13

u/epicfail1994 6d ago

The ‘Bye-bye’ is always funny

8

u/MynamuEzJJ 7d ago

If it wasn't for how absolutely cute she is I'm not sure I would actually watch the show. Or at least I wouldn't get near as much enjoyment out of it as I do.

32

u/Allian42 7d ago

I think it's the delivery. She has that deadpan look, but still sound just a little bit excited when she does something, like a kid showing you their crayon drawing.

Except it's not a crayon drawing, it's a pile of monsters she just embarrassed.

11

u/MynamuEzJJ 7d ago

the VA did such a nice job with her delivery. It's kinda why I can't watch this in English. It just doesn't have the same effect.

3

u/epicfail1994 6d ago

English dub Fran sounds like she’s in her late 20s or something

23

u/Torque-A 7d ago

Ai Kakuma putting in work as always. It's funny to think that just a few weeks back she was Eris from Mushoku Tensei.

10

u/MynamuEzJJ 7d ago

Hard to believe that one of my most hated characters and one of my most loved characters has the same voice actor. You have broken my heart this day. I am conflicted.

11

u/Torque-A 7d ago

Her roles are definitely polarizing

  • Terenneza from May I Ask You One Last Thing? (The villain of the story, super hatable)
  • Cure Prism from Soaring Sky Precure (impossible to hate)
  • Julis from The Asterisk War (an even bigger tsundere than Eris, can definitely be hatable)
  • May from Bofuri (how can you hate one of the hammer girls?)
  • Rossweisse from High School DxD (now you have to add horny feelings to the mix)

7

u/TnAdct1 7d ago

There's a good reason why I want to see a fan art of all of Ai Kakuma's isekai characters sitting around a campfire (with Terenneza being used as a "practice dummy").

-4

u/MynamuEzJJ 7d ago

Ask AI to do it. Or I'm sure there is a human who is skilled enough

4

u/MynamuEzJJ 7d ago

I love how diverse voice actors can be.

1

u/epicfail1994 6d ago

I was wondering why I didn’t recognize her from May I Ask For One Final Thing, then i remembered that the dub of that show (especially Scarlett) is so good that I never bothered with the sub

57

u/epicfail1994 7d ago

The soundtrack for this show continues to be awesome, especially during the fights

9

u/BosuW 7d ago

I was surprised when I saw Yasuharu Takanashi is the composer for this series lol

-10

u/FelixAndCo 7d ago

I feel like the sound direction considering the music is a bit off this season. The moments tracks starts feel a bit jarring. The early start of ED was inspired though; the song can definitely go under an intense fight even if it's about curry.

46

u/zool714 7d ago

That Undead Spear Master lookin kinda hot ngl.

So I’m guessing the one in the flashback became the thing that Stefan possessed. I wonder how we’re gonna go back to what happened in the flashback. Hmm something is up with Stefan’s secret mission though. Can’t tell if it’s good or bad

Ohh the Skeleton that attacked them last episode is one of the Bosses. Time for revenge

Fran gatekeeping the curry was funny though. She told Jean he had enough after 3 bowls when she already had 5 lmao

38

u/arrydie 7d ago

So I’m guessing the one in the flashback became the thing that Stefan possessed.

The Undead Spear Master is also definitely the flashback's would-be adventurer friend too.

30

u/SomeTool 7d ago

same with the undead swordsman with the missing eye.

8

u/The_Parsee_Man 7d ago

Ah yeah, I didn't key in on the missing eye.

13

u/VritraReiRei 7d ago

That Undead Spear Master lookin kinda hot ngl.

Hehe. Would.

Okay but seriously, I want to know how she ended up like that. She should have died when they were kids but she got hella buff as an adult. For someone that was abused and not taken care of very well, she grew out her body very surprisingly.

5

u/baconBurgerBo 7d ago

I have a sad theory that both her and the guy missing an eye survived and escaped. They become powerful adventurers and returned to the dungeon to try to either save their friend or put him to rest (if he's the dungeon boss which he most likely is) but unfortunately died in the process and became floor bosses.

3

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 5d ago

Good theory! Stefan never saw them again and he was turned as undead when he's still a child.

If both of them were turned undead at the same time, then they should have remained in child body as well. Well, unless their body was also experimented to grow faster.

3

u/Hot-Log6283 7d ago

I wonder if it's related to what happened after the kid got transformed into the Undead Eater after that big explosion, that seems to have killed everyone.

43

u/FakePretendeRat 7d ago

CGI Skeleton aside, the production values this season are higher than the last. Spear Warrior fight was badass

32

u/Obaruler 7d ago

DREAM TEAM!

Fran is just way too cute ... especially when she's defending HER Curry from greedy Necromancers ...

23

u/Healthy-List2509 7d ago

That's what I love so much about the show. The scene is portrayed in a funny way, but the truth is that children who have been neglected will eat as much as there is to eat.

34

u/rotten_riot https://anilist.co/user/RottenOrange 7d ago

If you think about it, kinda sad how we learned these two episodes about the diary's writer's backstory only for him to practically die off-screen once Stefan took his body

35

u/TheBusStop12 7d ago

My guess is that there's more to it and it's related to Stegan's secret mission

8

u/mischievous_shota 7d ago

Yeah, no way they gave that backstory if they weren't planning on doing something with it.

18

u/FelixAndCo 7d ago

Is that how you interpreted it? He said he took "a" form that was lingering. Still think it's the youthful form of the final boss.

16

u/justking1414 7d ago

If an undead is basically just regrets and pain given form, the diary could’ve become the undead eater while the boy himself became the dungeon master

8

u/rotten_riot https://anilist.co/user/RottenOrange 7d ago

Yeah, I took it as Stefan (little ghost) was eaten by diary writer, and once inside diary writer's body he took control of it, therefore replacing diary writer's consciousness in that body and "killing" him

2

u/Hot-Log6283 7d ago

Imagine Stefan's secret mission was to go to the lower level as the final boss:

"You expected the final boss? Too bad! It was me, Stefan."

32

u/PendragonDaGreat https://myanimelist.net/profile/Bpendragon 7d ago

The murder kitten continues to thrive.

Hey Skeleton Knight, this is how you do a second season after your first was praised for not toning it all down.

27

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 7d ago

I’m really liking all of Jean’s summons. Fry and Selkan are kind of cute in their own way. Stefan’s a little goober too. Pretty funny how they just Kirby’d those ghosts lol.

Level 8 guardian was pretty tough and we know how strong level 9 skelly knight is. I wonder how powerful’s the lvl 10 boss? Must be insane.

25

u/Smudy https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smudy 7d ago

Short but also such a sick fight at the end, C2C has it as usual.

27

u/deynyel 7d ago

It seems like the ones who became dungeon bosses were the captive children being experimented on.

Jean really came in clutch during his last dungeon attempt by leaving Stefan there. He basically converted one of the bosses to their side. We already saw how useful Stefan can be just by dealing with those Wraiths that Fran couldn't even slice through.

24

u/epicfail1994 7d ago

The most adorable show is back!

Fran is slicing through those undead like Yoda with those flips

3

u/ggg730 7d ago

Undead and slavers!

17

u/TheBusStop12 7d ago edited 7d ago

Things I did not expect: Shoujo coded undead monstrosity named Stefan

Seeing "him" and "her" being reduced to zombie floor bosses is tragic. What they were doing at that facility was fucked up

20

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 7d ago

I would bet all of Fran's curry that Jean is the kid in the flashback. I don't have a good theory on how Stefan got his body, though.

Fran proudly standing on a pile of bodies is not something I will ever get tired of seeing.

One of my favorite aspects of this anime is how quickly Fran can go from murderfloof to playfulfloof. She is quite frankly one of my very favorite characters in anime because of how badass she can be while remaining someone I want to just head pat for hours. I am going to hit up the novels, but I am wary if written words can show that cute dynamic of hers as well as animation can.

I hate that really well written and as far as I know, fairly popular anime like this have to fight for every episode they can get. Meanwhile RaG Season 6 is in production......

3

u/Hot-Log6283 7d ago

I would bet all of Fran's curry that Jean is the kid in the flashback. I don't have a good theory on how Stefan got his body, though.

Seems unlikely as he doesn't recognise both of his friends, unless we have like a split person/amnesia type situation going on here.

18

u/RostySerfort 7d ago

I loved fran being competitive about the curry. May she never go hungry again, daughter gotta eat a lot to grow strong

18

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 7d ago

So the guy in the flashback is essentially possessed by one of Jean's minions. Still there is a connection in the flashbacks. Makes me wonder does Jean has a history with this place. We see the girl of the two friends when Fran fights her. Very likely either the main skeleton or possibly Jean is the guy friend. Jean knows more than he leads on.

Fake identity is an interesting skill. Though Jean is right that skill is useless if you aren't bluffing well. Also Shishou being a hammer is interesting.

Well we got a rematch with that Skelton from before. Well he definitely seems strong.

15

u/justking1414 7d ago

Though Jean is right that skill is useless if you aren't bluffing well.

Fran is a literal child and member of the weakest race. Wouldn’t be that hard to convince people she’s actually pretty weak

11

u/skavinger5882 7d ago

The Skeliton Knight has an eye patch and the friend had their eye gauged out

16

u/WiqidBritt 7d ago

I do hope we see more of the spear lady. Seems like they were all part of the magic experiments that had been happening on the island so I'm sure there will be more of them.

Also I wish I knew what year it is currently so I could figure out how long ago the other stuff was.

10

u/skavinger5882 7d ago

I think the spear lady was the Undead Eater's childhood friend who was cut up they have the same hair color. I also think the skeleton knight is the other friend since it has an eye patch and he had is eye gouged out

7

u/beginnerflipper 7d ago

Ohh, didn't even think about skeleton being the other friend

34

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 7d ago edited 7d ago

Fran is of course still the cutest, but I must say that Stephan is only slightly less cute. It made me laugh so hard when they showed how he sees Jean. By the way, I wonder how he sees Fran.

The fight with the 8th-floor boss in this episode wasn't the longest, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't good. It's great to see that C2C doesn't disappoint in that aspect.

Fake Identity sounds like a very useful skill. I was a little bummed that Teacher didn't put the "Loves curry" skill in Fran's fake stats like when the skill was first explained. That would have been so fun, lol.

Also, the OP song "Dream of Butterfly" has been released! It's definitely one of my favorite songs this season. Here are the links to it on:

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

14

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 7d ago

I have no idea how I am just noticing Fran gets airplane ears when she's attacking. She really is a cat!

Thanks for uploading so many screen shots!

26

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 7d ago

I love how easily Jean could see through Fran and Shishou. Let's just hope there won't be a heel turn from Jean because the dude knows waaaaaaay too much about Fran and Shishou's skills, especially after they told him all about Impact Slash.

That backstory of that kid was so fucked up. So I was genuinely surprised when he later showed up as one of Jean's undead. So Stephan ended up merging with the Undead Eater; I guess that means the dungeon is the facility that blew up in the flashbacks.

Stephan seems to be cool, and he really gets along with Fran. I do wonder what his special mission from Jean is. I also wonder if Jean knows more about this dungeon than he leads on. Hmmm...

The fight with the B8F Sentry was pretty awesome! Fran and Shishou really went all out. Too bad we're gonna have to wait until next week for their rematch against the skeleton general!

9

u/justsyr 7d ago

Let's just hope there won't be a heel turn from Jean because the dude knows waaaaaaay too much about Fran and Shishou's skills, especially after they told him all about Impact Slash

Yeah I was thinking about that, Jean seemed way too interested about Fran and Shishou skills. Despite how lovely Stephan looked and how well they seem to get along I kind of think that some weird thing is going to happen with that secret mission.

Also is possible that Stephan goes to 'meet' his 2 friends from the book and maybe recruit them for the party.

1

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 6d ago

hard to do that when they just killed one of the friends and destroyed her core and are about to face up against the 2nd

8

u/Hot-Log6283 7d ago

Let's just hope there won't be a heel turn from Jean

Amanda did said he was a good if weird dude last season when Fran asked if necromancy was a skill used by bad people.

2

u/LimeyLassen https://myanimelist.net/profile/Limey_Lassen 6d ago

oh, nice catch

4

u/Ikari_21 7d ago

Idk if you noticed but that spear-wielding sentry was the girl from the diary author’s flashback (red hair, same scars), and the skeleton knight is the guy from the same time (eyepatch over right eye cause it was gouged out)! After emphasizing them in the diary, they glossed over them during fights, so I wonder if they’ll have a bigger part to play in the next ep. Their backstories were so sad to see

2

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 6d ago

no one read the diary yet, its exposition for us, they kept teasing it on stefans hip but then never did anything with it

1

u/Ikari_21 6d ago

My bad, when I said “they glossed over it” I meant the story, not the characters lol I know the gang doesn’t know anything about them. I was expecting the story to focus on them more but it moved on. I should’ve clarified that lol

1

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 5d ago

It baffles me how no one noticed a book that big just behind of Stefan

10

u/YdenMkII 7d ago

They mention it's a 10 floor dungeon and they're only on B9? Did the ground floor count as one of 10 or does the final floor normally not have a boss when it comes to dungeons in this world. It does feel weird that the undead eater was the boss so early on though. You'd imagine the undead that eats other undead would be the strongest one in a dungeon of undead.

10

u/nurglez_tnx 7d ago

10th floor is the dungeon core chamber (counts as a floor I guess).

10

u/SilverGeekly 7d ago

im guessing jean was placed here specifically to deal with this place. and/or he's related to the people who were running it. if he is actually a good guy, i could see sending stephan off being him trying to completely take all the souls here and have them ready to be passed on peacefully.

if he's kinda bad, i could see him sending stephan to gather all the research they did on the undead here to use for his own (ethical) necromancy nonsense.

if he's a secret villian, i could see this being set up for wanting to re-open the place and continue the research.

14

u/The_Parsee_Man 7d ago

if he is actually a good guy

In season 1 Amanda said she knew a necromancer who was a good guy. She didn't give a name but the picture was definitely Jean.

3

u/BetelgeuseIsBestGirl 6d ago

And said he had a habit of making himself seem really suspicious.

8

u/beginnerflipper 7d ago

The full op finally realesed which is awesome since it is a banger and seems like it sets a tone for the season that pairs nicely with how easygoing the episodes are so far

16

u/Stopthetourist 7d ago

I can’t believe how many people are sleeping on this anime I remember the first season having some amazing action scenes and animation. This episode reminded me of all of those awesome scenes in the first season. The action in this series is extremely underrated one of my favorite isekais by far. This goes to show you you can have amazing action choreography and sequences without needing to see every hair sweat or particle effects. This is the epitome of amazing action episodes that took place 10 to 15 years ago that seemed like they’ve been lost a time.

4

u/Hot-Log6283 7d ago

I thought so as well but it's listed as the third most members anime this season behind (understandably) The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 and Black Clover Season 2:

Isn't the Black Cat's Protection against one shot kills? So Fran almost died from a random kick? And she just goes back in? Makes sense after Teacher explains that they would lose a protracted fight, but when the Protection procced I really wanted Fran to retreat and restrategize.

17

u/Zenoi 7d ago

Yes the protection is for nullifying instant death effects. The random kick was just the armor magically protecting her unarmored belly.

Here's a clip I found for a quick refresher from last season https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_RLibL-sec

12

u/ChronoDeus 7d ago

Not so much one shot kills as instant death effects. Stuff that just kills you outright regardless of what shape you're in. So a sufficiently powerful attack could still kill her in one shot, but something can't just point at her say "die" and she'll just drop dead.

so it's like Curse Resist in dark souls

Oh cool, I'll have to get HIDIVE again.

Amazing episode once again! Our golden combo of the cutest black cat girl and the most amazing super sugoi ken are joined by Jean and the super adorable Stefan on today's dungeon crawl and they managed to make some speedy progress through the floors, with some great fun fights against a variety of undead foes. And those fights actually looked really good! I am so happy this awesome show is getting the amazing adaption it deserves!

Fran traveling in a party is always fun to see and I always love seeing her jealous when it comes to sharing curry. Speaking of curry, this weeks curry was more experimental I threw a Thai Lemon Curry together and it actually turned out really good. I was just kinda making up my own recipe as I went along, so I was afraid it might not turn out that well, but it was actually really refreshing and the sweet sour taste gave it a really unique and very flavourful taste. I'd say today's curry was certainly Fran-approved!

I am already excited for next week, when Fran will hopefully get her revenge on that skeleton boss!

Whats b8f, b1f, etc means and whats sentry can anyone tell

15

u/grayrest https://myanimelist.net/profile/grayrest 7d ago

Those are the dungeon floor numbers. I'd guess b8f -> basement 8 floor or maybe boss 8 floor. I'm not sure what you're referring to by sentry.

13

u/arrydie 7d ago

Definitely "basement 8 floor", since that's extremely common and fits here since they're going down. The "B" distinguishes it from "8F" which would be the 8th floor upwards, like if you hit "8" on an elevator.

5

u/amourshipper_ 7d ago

Thank you very much

13

u/deynyel 7d ago

I think sentry refers to the guardians they have to beat in order to proceed further into the dungeon.

3

u/amourshipper_ 7d ago

Thankyou very much

2

u/Schneizeru 7d ago

地下 (chika) means underground. 層 (-sou) is the counter for floor. The character between these is the number. 地下一層 would be first floor below ground.

1

u/amourshipper_ 7d ago

Thanks for explaination

1

u/DerfK 7d ago

Basement 1st Floor, down to Basement 8th Floor, each one floor down underground. Contrast 1F to 8F for 1st to 8th Floor above ground.

Sentry is Guard, in this case a boss guarding the exit to the next floor.

Damn, didn't expect the floating Island to be the place where those kids were tortured and turned into undead. So Stefan has taken the appearance of the undead boy after taking over the undead eater..the undead woman with the red hair that Fran faced on the 8th floor, she looked like one of the boy's friend in the flashback and the skeleton knight must be his other friend judging from the eye patch. I guess the boy is having an adventure with his undead friends since they mentioned in the flashback that they wanted to form a party if they ever left that place 💔

The animation is so sick this season. Huge upgrade from season 1. The op and ed rocks. Hanabie.'s ed starting to play towards the end is just so peak 😭❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

u/Rooby_VTuber 7d ago

Summoning an undead to take care of the traps was a great idea.

There is always time for curry.

A new evolution, it's hammer time!

Jean & Stephan have a rather interesting relationship lol, either way he is extremely useful in battle.

That was a good battle against that female Zombie.

Looks like the boss has appeared, next episode is going to be a lot of fun to watch.

A new evolution, it's hammer time!

(Insert "Mai from Bofuri" comment here)

2

u/JustRedditTh 4d ago

And that female zombie clearly was that red haired girl from Ghosteaters memory

Pretty sure the Knight was the boy that got his eye gought out

New idea for next DnD session

5

u/TheToadKing 7d ago

I'm enjoying this new season but I have to express one minor nitpick that I had with season 1 that continues in this new season: they overuse that choir synth in a lot of the OST. When it gets used at very fast tempos in the battle tracks it just doesn't sound that good IMO. Enjoying the rest of the music (and most other things) in the show though.

4

u/Yggdrasildur 6d ago

The fight with the spearmaster was really well done.

1

u/JoeyTheNekoGuy 6d ago

I was like. "thats a humanoid zombie? just a zombie? I didn't think a humanoid zombie could fire wave motion cannon beams from their mouths." but fran still won and it was an excellently done fight indeed.

I like how Jean is playing a bit of a mentor role with the suggestions of skills to pick up to improve their build.

The three OP monsters in this dungeon pretty much have to be the three friends. Redheaded girl as the 8th floor boss, the body Stephan is in of course, and the boy who had an eye removed as the skeleton dude from the end of the episode and episode one. I wonder if there'll be any closure for the three of them or if being put down might be the best they can hope for.

3

u/Sahelanthropus- 7d ago

The animation goes hard, it really shows how Fran is a tiny killer swordsman doing crazy flip attacks mid combat. I had to go back and rewatch it but you can see Fran break the spear zombie’s stance twice but was unable to land the killing blow.

2

u/LimeyLassen https://myanimelist.net/profile/Limey_Lassen 6d ago

Her fighting style is kinda like Zagreus. Lots of dashing.

3

u/Viktorv22 6d ago edited 6d ago

Incredible animation, was S1 this good?

Also the fight OST went hard, I had to replay few parts because I was just jamming to it whoops lol

(But what is this bitrate HIDIVE??? Like, no one complains to them about it? It's so blurry, especially in action parts)

3

u/DrZoark 6d ago

So far, so good; it has retained the charm of the first season.

2

u/BosuW 7d ago

Time to have some Yasuharu Takanashi whiplash between this and the Shiki Rewatch

2

u/Maqoba 7d ago

Ah yes, Fluffball that love curry as her skill. Fran is using her new skill to show her true self.

2

u/italeteller 7d ago

Damn, that was some good fighting animation. And when Stefan first showed up, the way he was moving was so creepy. Swatting away the scan too. And holy shit, poor slave kid. He gets tortured to undeath, and then he gets possessed and no longer even has control of his body? I hope he gets to regain control this season, cause god damn he deserves something good

Also I'm very suspicious of whatever Jean had Stefan do. I don't think a betrayal is 100% likely but I'm also not ruling it out

1

u/LimeyLassen https://myanimelist.net/profile/Limey_Lassen 6d ago

the way he was moving was so creepy.

I love it, they were intentionally using high FPS to make it look weird. Might have been interpolation.

2

u/sennoden 5d ago

I LOVE IT! The production of this season is FANTASTIC! The opening, the ending, the animation, the faces, everything is spot on! It is clearly made by passionate people, this is how second seasons should be

2

u/Rothuith 7d ago

NO WAY ARE WE ACTUALLY BACK??

2

u/Rothuith 6d ago

GOD I STARTED S1 AND THIS SERIES IS SOOOO GOOD

1

u/Fools_Requiem https://myanimelist.net/profile/FoolsRequiem 7d ago

Either they're going to get betrayed or Jean and Stephan join the team.

1

u/DemonWraith2500 7d ago

The carry can end this party immediately.

Fran, don't skip campaign story.

Guys, you can't damage the boss before cutscene.

1

u/OCASM 7d ago

The final area with all the faces looks like the area where the Eclipse happens in Berserk.

1

u/PathfinderCS https://anilist.co/user/AshenPathfinder 7d ago

This is the perfect replacement for Clevatess for me. A nice, dark undertone to a nice, wholesome dungeon-delving! The animation has been a treat as well!

1

u/Sharp_Emphasis176 7d ago

I absolutely loved season 1. I'm going to watch season 2 only when it's finished. Can't wait week by week for each episode.

1

u/R10TGRrrrrrrL666 7d ago

Big step up from the last season.

1

u/Leadthedead017 6d ago

curry🍛👍

1

u/TiamatRuneaid 6d ago

Peak is back on the menu boys!!!!

1

u/Shadowmist909 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Magicmist 6d ago

That boy suffered a lot of torture from those undead experiments.

Even if the circumstances are highly unusual, I'm glad Stefan taking over that Undead Eater allowed his form to return and have fun dungeon diving with Fran.

1

u/ronin_moogle 6d ago

Finished up Hell Mode and now back to the adventures of Fran and the best Sword Dad! Feeling pretty spoiled with fantasy shows this year! Jean being a curry fiend was pretty great. The fight scenes are REALLY cooking out the gate!

1

u/HawXProductions 6d ago

Fran is adorb every episode 😆

1

u/LimeyLassen https://myanimelist.net/profile/Limey_Lassen 6d ago

Fran is a vtuber

  • falls asleep during cutscenes/doesn't read

  • mascot pet that she forgets about

  • yaps about food

  • vulnerable to flattery

1

u/MibumIzichi 6d ago

The ending really does not work for the 'overlay the song over the last few seconds of the episode' method for more 'serious' bits. Way too silly for it.

Fran you gotta share girl, you can always make more!

1

u/Wonderful-Pay5773 5d ago

dont tell me Jean is going to be the villian mid series. something about him feels really sketchy. i hope he is not the master who was conducting the horrible experiments on the children

1

u/AdministrativeOil803 4d ago

Wow just wow... The anime improved alot... I really liked the new characters and fights are top tier... Hope it's stays like this... Also the OP is really bloody and dark with bodies and blood everywhere... This anime and kusuriya no hitorigoto are my favorite this season

1

u/Monkeydp81 4d ago

Man that fight between the greater zombie girl was amazingly well done. I'm loving how much more fluid the fights look in this season. Cannot wait for the first truly big one (manga reader).

When he reincarnated as a sword i almost couldn't believe it- such a breath of fresh air! Reminded me of Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life: Dai Ni no Shokugyou wo Ete, Sekai Saikyou ni Narimashita but as a sword... This worldbuilding is unmatched, i'm pleasantly surprised
