I would highly recommend engaging with the community and leaving your expectations at the door. If you do not understand what you are getting into there is a chance your brand could be damaged.
Lastly, moderators are not making money on this. We are not affiliated with anyone. No we won't promote you. No, we don't accept money. No, not even for you.

Politics Who is still supporting Shawn Dobson at this point?
How does Shawn Dobson have so much support? I’ve never talked to anyone who is happy with him and it doesn’t seem like he does anything as councillor but I see a bunch of his signs all over. It was the same thing last election and he won without doing anything. People of St. James, can we please not be so apathetic that we end up with a lame duck again? Please

Ask Winnipeg Gift basket ideas for day surgery unit staff
I recently had surgery and the staff were amazing. I want to bring them a basket of goodies. I'm hoping this is something they're allowed to accept.
Is there usually 2 or 3 shifts? I was there for 24 hours so I want to make sure everyone gets something.
These are the things I'm thinking to add so far.
- 24 hair claw clips (I saw a lot of the staff wearing them)
- 24 mini fragrance free bottles of lotion
- 24 unscented chap sticks
- mini bags of packaged snacks like Pringles, Ritz crackers, chips
-mints, gum
I'm wanting to add beverages but I'm not sure what so ideas for that would be great. Are my items so far a good idea? Any other suggestions?

Ask Winnipeg Where can you just sit somewhere warm in Winnipeg for an hour without buying anything?
I feel like this should be an easy question for a city that regularly hits -30.
Last winter I had an awkward gap between getting off work downtown and needing to be somewhere else. Just over an hour. Going home and coming back by bus would've taken longer than the gap itself.
All I wanted was somewhere warm to sit and read for a bit.
I walked past a couple of coffee shops, considered the food court, and eventually bought a $4 tea I didn't even want because I felt weird taking up a table without purchasing something.
And then I realized I do this constantly.
I know libraries exist. I love libraries. But depending on the day, some branches are already closed by the time you're done work, and sometimes you're nowhere near one.
Malls and The Forks are options if you're in the right area, but even there I sometimes feel like I'm supposed to be shopping or eating.
I'm not expecting private businesses to provide free seating for everyone. I'm genuinely curious where people go when they just need to exist indoors for 45 minutes without spending money.
Especially people taking transit. If you drive, you can sit in your car with the heat on. If you don't, a random gap in your schedule becomes something you actually have to plan around.
Are there community centres, public buildings, or other places around Winnipeg where it's completely normal to just sit with a book for a while?
Bonus points for places open in the evening.
It seems ridiculous to need a strategy for being indoors in Winnipeg, but here we are.

News Repeat sex offender accused of breaking into 3 Osborne Village homes through windows
Winnipeg police have issued at least 4 community notifications about him since 2022
A man previously convicted numerous times of sex offences against women and girls — some of them targeted at random — allegedly broke into three different Osborne Village homes last month and took off when confronted by homeowners.
Officers arrested Curtis Leroy George, 34, on Princess Street on Tuesday after an investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service's property crime unit, a Wednesday news release said.
He was charged with three counts of breaking-and-entering with intent and four counts of violating probation. George was detained in custody.
Winnipeg police refused to confirm to CBC News that the man charged is the same Curtis Leroy George they previously characterized as a convicted sex offender considered a high risk to reoffend in at least four community notifications since 2022, including last winter.
In the recent offences, George is alleged to have broken into three separate residences on Stradbrook Avenue, between Harkness Avenue and Scott Street, between Sept. 13 and 14.
The intruder forced his way in through a window each time, police allege, and in two of the incidents he took off after being confronted by homeowners inside. The release did not say what happened in the third break-in.
None of the homeowners reported injuries to investigators, police said.
Despite the case initially being investigated by the Winnipeg police property crimes unit, none of the homeowners reported any property being stolen, the release states.
George has a lengthy criminal record that goes back to at least 2010 and includes convictions for sexual interference and criminal harassment.
He has previously been convicted six times for sexual assault, seven times for assault and once for committing an indecent act, police said previously.
In a case from 2011, George sexually assaulted five random women while they were jogging or walking. He was also convicted of sexual interference involving a 13-year-old girl. He was sentenced to two years.
In 2016, George stalked, harassed and exposed himself to a woman near where she worked. He was sentenced to two years in 2018.
He exposed himself to a woman at a bus stop with her young daughter in 2022 and was sentenced to just under one year.
The most recent community notification about George was issued by the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit — a joint Winnipeg police and RCMP unit — in mid-February.
That notice suggests he was released from Milner Ridge Correctional Centre after serving a 1½-year sentence for sexually assaulting an adolescent girl in Thompson, and was expected to live in Winnipeg.
That assault contravened pre-existing probation orders to stay away from anyone under 16 without written approval from probation services.
When he was released in February, George was described as a "violent" and "untreated sex offender" at a high-risk to reoffend against women and girls.
He was also ordered to be under supervised probation for 18 months, which required him to avoid contact with anyone 16 or younger unless supervised.
George also has two lifetime weapon prohibitions.
Police said in February that anyone with information about George could contact the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit at 431-489-8056.

Ask Winnipeg Question about Costco
I received a new member offer from Costco in the mail and I just wondering do Winnipeggers think:
Is it worth it for a single person who doesn't buy a lot of things in bulk?
I don't care for the parking shit show I often read about, so are there any days/times to go that it's not so busy? (I'd be going to the one on Kenaston)
Thanks

Politics Transit electrification
All the mayoral candidates promises to increase the electrification of transit are empty. Transit is already on schedule to hit 15% in 2027. With the price of diesel why would anybody buy more diesel buses so 30% is easy.

News Election resource
Hi all,
This will likely be my last post about this — just wanted to let you know that our Winnipeg civic election resource site is now basically up to date with:
- Candidate Q&As from various wards
- Mayoral candidate Q&As [Only Scott Gillingham has yet to respond]
- Voter concern profiles from real folks living and working the wards.
No, we couldn't do all wards — so we focused attention first on the ones where there's an open challenge and a new incoming face on council.
It would be great, if you're inclined, to have a look and please share around. If you have questions or concerns please just ask.
Thanks a ton — JT

Winni-Pets She found a forever home!
Hey everyone, last update to this saga, but all good news! I'd mentioned how hard it was to give her up but ultimately did the right thing. I kept in touch with the Winnipeg Humane society and they officially updated me that Dezzy found her forever home!
That said, if you adopted her and happen to see this, you are legally required to drop pictures in the comments, sorry, I don't make the rules. Its totally cool if you changed her name!
I hope she has the best life ever, she's such an amazing cat.

Ask Winnipeg Bar reccommendations?
I’ve been living here for ~6 months, and haven’t really met many people/ made many friends. I was wondering what bar(s) would attract a younger (early-mid 20s) crowd? A bar that would be good for getting to talk to people and maybe make some friends?

Ask Winnipeg Med Scrubs - Best Place?
Hey! Wondering....where is the best place is to buy scrubs? Ive heard Giant Tiger, Walmart, and Salvation Army can be good. I don't want to spend too much. I'm pretty chunky right now, but I plan to lose it. 😆
I really want them to fit well and not make me look all frumpy. I got a few recently that look good on the hanger, but man oh man, when you wear them, you bend and stuff, and whoa, end up having to constantly re-adjust. It's a nightmare. If you know... you know. 😁
Anyways. Thank you so so much in advance! 😊
