Finished Wand Not a big fan of this one. But I do want to try again and make something similar.
Iām happy with the overall idea, and the bark texture is cool. But I didnāt execute it great, so I do want to give it another go soon and hopefully it turns out more like what I pictured.

Finished Wand A Light-up Wand I created out of Ebony wood
Hello, all you wandsmiths! I completed a new wand for my collection from a blank of Gaboon ebony wood. I have worked with African hardwoods before, so I knew what I was getting into. This time, I created an elegant handle using a rotary tool and added gold accents using Rub n Buff wax. Suffice it to say this wand came out amazing!

Wandlore (written) Need ideas or suggestions for magical conversions of mundane ingredients
So Iām currently formulating a blend of ingredients to use as a finishing wax on my wands. I want to make some fun labels for the finished tins that would feel at home in a magical universe and I need some ideas for magical equivalents of the real world ingredients used. The idea here is that over time a wand, staff, or what have you could become ātiredā or less effective with age and this wax would be a product a practicing magical being could buy to keep their magical accoutrements of the wooden variety in good health and repair. So far I have the followingā¦
Beeswax -> Rendered Dragonās Fat
Tung Oil -> Essence of Yggdrasil
Linseed Oil -> Essence of Dittany
Turpentine -> Distilled Sprigganās Blood
Does anyone know of any magical flora or fauna that could potentially supply more thematically relevant ingredients? They also donāt necessarily have to come from the same magical world! My above list references Elder Scrolls, Norse mythology, and Harry Potter so Iām open to anything!
The name of the product is ~Waxleyās Wand Wax for the Well Equipped Wizard~ and I even wrote up a little ad/ descriptor
"Have your spells lost their sway? Are your incantations lacking intensity? If these questions ring true, Waxley's Wand Wax is the remedy for you! Crafted from specially selected and naturally sourced components; Waxley's has everything you need to breathe life back into your whimsical wooden instruments and keep them in good repair!ā

In Progress Project Progress update on my purpleheart wand
Got the body of the wand finished up and sanded down to 150 grit. 95% of this was done by hand with no power tools beginning from a 1x1x18 square blank and it took positively forever to get here. Next I need to begin carving some channels so the twine wrap has somewhere to settle into. After that Iāll focus on fitting up the quartz point on the end and finally Iāll begin working on the engravings and deeply etched surface texturing. The aim for each wand I make is for it to be better than the last and this one is looking like itās going to live up that standard. The image I have in my head for this wand is something quite old and full of character, bordering on ancient. A wand that is steeped in the wisdom and power of having been used to perform countless spells and rituals

Where to get wood for handcarved wands
I've noticed there are a lot of talented people who are hand carving there wands and I'm wondering where do you get that sort of wood you use to make them?

Finished Wand The Quiet Resolve šæšŖØ
There is a strength that makes itself known long before it is ever tested. It does not demand recognition, nor does it seek to prove what it is capable of. It simply endures, waiting for the moment when standing firm matters more than standing tall.
The Quiet Resolve is drawn to those who carry their convictions without the need to proclaim them. Patient and unassuming, it offers no encouragement to needless conflictābut it does not mistake restraint for weakness either.
When the moment comes to act, its wielder will discover that quiet conviction can move what force alone cannot.

Finished Wand A few more
Hey y'all, thanks for the warm welcome, here's a few more wands from my portfolio. Again mostly shaped with belt sander and rotary tool. The Raven bone sculpt has a secret chamber where i hollowed out the dowel between the ebony and holly, and inserted a little piece of Raven father, so that's fun š š¦āā¬

Query about blanks
For those of you who use blanks to make wands, what are the dimensions you start off with? Also where do you purchase them? In the past Iāve used sticks and other found materials, but lately Iāve been considering trying my hand at using blanks and am wondering where to start. I donāt have a lathe so Iād be using hand tools.

Finished Wand G'day Folks šš
I just found this sub and thought I'd say go and drop a few images. I have made a bunch of wands for pagan folks over the years, and though I haven't made any for several years (I mostly make swords) here are a few of my later efforts. šāØļøšŖ
Most of my stuff is shaped on a belt sander and sculpted with a rotary tool.
These few are eucalypt and cherry.

I was told to share here
This is my first piece! The shape took me a long long time. I shaved nearly 1.5in off the circumference before I went to town on it with a polishing wheel on my grinder
I still need to smooth, add runes, and finish but Iām just so happy with the overall shape

HBO Harry Potter's Wand
No that Harry's wand has been fully revealed. Has anyone attempted to make his wand?
I'm thinking of making it with sculpey.

Artwork Newbie here with a first attempt.
I am a pyrography artist usually and I got gifted some carving tools so I decided to give this a try. It's basswood, because that's what I usually like to Woodburn on. It's super soft light weight wood, not sure if that's what I will continue to try on or not. Any tips or tricks would be useful to know. I do plan on wrapping my wand handle with some leather strapping to give it a bit more dimensions as well.

Finished Wand My new favourite piece
(Repost cause I forgot to add a photo)
Most was done with just knives and some details were done with a dremel. I really really love this piece and Iām definitely going to do more like it on the future. The last photo shows the colour a bit better, as the lighting makes it more good but itās actually a pale copper colour ( used the snitch to show itās not actually gold). What do we think?

In Progress Project Progress update on my hand whittled purpleheart wand
Slowly and steadily thinning out the shaft. Iām taking a great deal of time and care with this part as I want the wand to be fairly straight and Iām carving down to near final dimensions so the room for error is pretty narrow. Iāve gotten really good at avoiding tear outs at this point and I can tell which areas are more prone to a tear out just by observing the grain. It also helps to keep your tools extremely sharp. I use a simple sheepās foot pocket knife with a straight edge and I have been sharpening and honing daily to maintain a constant razorās edge as well as stropping every now and then while I work. The handle is pretty much already the thickness I desire so Iām carving from the tip back to get a consistent distal taper that ends at the pommel. Itās really starting to feel like a wand now
