Academic UH students need more school spirit and stop being so boring
It’s pretty sad that there’s over 40K students in the school and yall can’t fill up a stadium knowing that our team is ranked

That time of year again. Post all your lease transfer, roommate requests, and apartment hunting in this thread. Let’s try not to clutter the subreddit with dozens of individual posts a day.

to EVERYONE on here, go to the game. we complain about it being hot or mid day, but they blessed us with a game on a Saturday, at 6:30, and against another ranked school. i could argue this is going to be the best game of the season, and everyone should be there. be so greatful that we get free tickets as students because most other schools have to pay hundreds to get a student ticket pass. pack the stadium this weekend and our team will show out for us. im so glad that campus is finally making statements about how embarrassing our game attendance is, because it is. every game i look around at our stadium and i think how insane it is that we are a top 25 team in the nation, and yet the stadium is empty. step it up
edit: if you are busy and have other things then this doesnt apply to you, this applies to the people who sit their ass in their dorm during the games or go to the games to tailgate and leave or take a picture then leave.

I don't want to admit it but trying to get people to come to the football games may be a lost cause at this point.
All we can really do now is hope now is that the football team continues to win and gains more success and because of that byproduct, more people get interested in the games.

On rate my professor and cougargrades.io all 3 of these professors seem to have good ratings. I'm just conflicted on who to choose and who will be best for me. I did okay with Larsen after I suffered for a bit and eventually withdrew out of Guloy's lecture for Chem 1. I ended up with a C minus in Larsen's class, but honestly I didn't really give my all due to personal trials and tribulations at home. This time around I'm enrolling into a SEP workshop to help supplement my studies. Anyways, Chem has never really been my strongest course. Out of the 3 I'm just wondering who would be the best as breaking down the material and explaining. Along with if any of them do practice problems in class and how they conduct their office hours. I'm leaning towards Zastrow due her lecture being at an hour that I most prefer, but Chen seems to have the best numbers out the 3. However, the only available lecture is in the evening, which is a hard decision considering I'm factoring in availability to work part-time.

I stayed at moody last year and I wanted to stay somewhere nicer this year. So after pitching a PowerPoint presentation to my mom on why I should live at the quads (because I wanted to keep a meal plan and stay somewhere in proximity to all my classes) and it’s been VERY underwhelming so far.
So here’s an honest review of what to expect if you’re going to spend the money to live in the newest dorms on campus (at least until those new freshman dorms get built)
The cost per semester (2027-2028) for a 4 bedroom suite is $5,697. The townhouse is cheaper at $4,569, but I hate people too much to do that. I put the prices of next year because some people are probably gonna want to move there next year.
Anyways, because of the amount that I am paying, I’m going to be very critical. I’m going to list every single problem I have had. There are more good things about the quads, but the bad things are too big of issues to ignore.
In a 4 bedroom suite, there’s technically two bathrooms. One has a toilet, and the other has a shower that comes with a shitty curtain. Both of the bathrooms are very spacious and I’m not sure what the reason is, especially with how tiny the shower is, which is my biggest issue, actually.
It’s so small, and the water gets out very easily. Also the shower curtain is too short for some reason and I haven’t been able to find a suitable replacement for it that’s long enough. The “bowl” edge of the shower is not tall, or steep enough to keep water from spilling out. I feel like none of this would be an issue if they had sliding doors, and I didn’t have this problem at moody.
You know how sad it is that the showers are moody were better than the ones at the newer, more expensive quads? Sad.
The walls in each suite are THIN. You are going to hear everything your roommates are doing, and you better PRAY you get roommates who respect the quiet time agreement, or an RA that cares enough to set up an agreement,
Luckily you can’t hear the people in the hallways from your room, so that’s good I guess. I’m not sure why the walls in this place are so thin. It’s like they constructed them out of card board. Foam earplugs and a sound machine will be your best friend here.
The bars and cages say enough. The walls inside the suites are white, no color, the floors are an ugly stone material that never look clean, it’s just a very sad environment. This is more of a nitpick than anything, but I spent a lot of money to put posters and wall decorations everywhere in my room to make it feel less sad.
At least it’s not on the roof this time. Each floor has a laundry room, with 8 washers and dryers, of course half of them are not working and will be repaired by the time you move out. The washers are small, so you’re probably going to need to use multiple washers, which is impossible because of how many people there are on each floor. But at least you don’t have to drag your laundry bag up the stairs.

The fact that answers are judged immediately with no confirmation step gives me no time to think over my first instinct so I get more questions wrong. And when I get a question wrong, boy do I know it: it plays a sound effect and it brings up a pop-up window that tells me exactly why I'm wrong and it tells me that I've lost half of whatever points I decided to wager on this question and it tells me that I have to try again before I can move on as if I don't know that.
Speaking of the wager, gambling is an integral part of quizzes, apparently. You're asked to gauge your confidence level with each question and that setting determines how many points you lose if you get a question wrong. So getting multiple questions wrong in a row means that your score ends up lower than it started, even after you gain back half of the points you've lost once you eventually get it right. And of course, if you set it to anything other than the maximum confidence level, then you don't get as many points from a correct question as you otherwise could. So this leads to the frequent situation where I lower my confidence for a particular question and then forget to move it back up to high and then get several questions correct before I realize, meaning that I get closer to reaching the minimum amount of questions I have to answer before I can get a grade without making the same progress to actually get 100% by the time I finish the minimum amount of questions, so I end up forcing myself to answer more questions for no reason. I don't understand how anyone thought this was an appropriate mechanic for a learning environment. I don't understand how they can expect this to be anything other than frustrating, demoralizing, demotivating and distracting from learning.
The only good parts are that it links you to the appropriate page in the textbook for each question (though frequently it links you to the wrong page that doesn't contain any information useful for actually answering the question) and that, yes, it does let you retry questions until you get them right. But it could do the same thing by just having a completion score based on a minimum amount of questions and just not letting you move on until you get the current question correct! In other words, we could have the kindness elements that are supposed to make it easier to learn and build student confidence without having the poorly thought out gamification aspects.
I'm sure W. W. Norton points to some kind of study or data that shows that this particular mix of mechanics is supposed to be the most efficient way to learn or whatever, but I don't think they've taken into account the emotional factor which is going to severely distract students. It certainly does for me. I think my neighbors have heard some of my arguments with the screen, I get so angry. Does the University have some kind of contract with them? Is that why all my professors are using these damn things? I want them gone. If enough other people do too, maybe we can start a petition or something.

Hello everyone, lately I’ve been confused on this intersection. 21B and the street across next to 19A have stop signs when exiting, but the oncoming traffic only has a yield to pedestrians sign which makes it a 2 way stop sign. When I am exiting the 21B lot and waiting at my stop sign, why does the oncoming traffic to my left stop at the crosswalk when no pedestrian is there?

Hello I am currently a sophomore in biology major and was wondering how to get research experience as someone who has no prior experience. I’ve been looking into research opportunities at my university, but I’m not entirely sure where to start or how to get involved when I don’t have any experience yet. If anyone knows any professors or any advice please let me know thank you!
