Opinion/Discussion This is how narcissists behave when confronted
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
If you love Jesus/your pastor and you don’t want to stress your mind today, just skip this post. Let’s go.
Not all men of God are narcissists.
But positions of power and influence in various areas tend to attract people of a narcissistic disposition.
I met one prominent pastor-musician during some church fundraising ceremony he had organized, and it was evident that the guy was there on business while people were busy falling about all over him in Jesus’s name.
You just gotta respect the hustle, man.
I grew up around narcissistic people and I’ve studied them since childhood.
When you’ve interacted with as many narcissists as I have, and if you have ever confronted a narcissist, you start to identify their manipulation tactics pretty easily.
So this Gashumba guy went out and challenged pastors who claim to heal diseases like cancer and AIDS, to take the healing to hospitals, much like modern-day Jesus might have done, in order to demonstrate God’s power to the people and erase all doubt.
This video is an excerpt from Pr Kayanja’s response.
Manipulation comes naturally to narcissists, which is why they can easily influence masses of people to believe and do anything they say.
Look at our politics for example. Look within your families. You can tell who is a narcissist, and having an audience or position of influence really increases their power and sense of superiority.
The most straightforward way to identify a narcissist is by watching how they respond to confrontation. Narcissists are ultimately afraid of being exposed or seen as less than they portray themselves to be.
When someone challenges or even merely questions their authority or legitimacy, they see it as an attack or an attempt to expose them and they start to scramble about, trying to restore their “image” through various manipulation tactics and even threats.
There’s this one technique narcissists like to use called DARVO - Deny the existence of the problem or Deflect attention from the issue at hand, Attack the character of the person who has confronted them, and Reverse Victim and Offender ie turn themselves into the victim to gain sympathy from anyone who can listen.
And obviously, pastors already have a ready audience and platform which gives them a safe space to influence the minds of unsuspecting people.
So let’s watch this video together and break it down. This is just a case study, so feel free to let us know if it was taken out of context.
Deny/Deflect:
At no point during this video does our pastor address the actual issue at hand.
Some guy is here challenging pastors who claim to heal serious illnesses to go do it in hospitals so that people can believe and come to their churches.
Despite not having been targeted outright by the statement, the pastor has chosen to take this as an attack on his business ministry and has instead framed the topic as a warning against “young people attacking elders”, using “young people” as the easiest scapegoat in this situation.
He mentions that it’s not even in African culture for young people to “mock” and “ridicule elders”. He even mentions the Ugandan constitution to emphasize the gravity of the matter.
In all these many words, he still does not address the actual statement, why he is offended by it, or what might be the thought process/ motivations behind it.
It would be easier for him to say “God is working through me, I have nothing to prove.”
Or even not to say anything at all, since he’s innocent and apparently not concerned with Gashumba’s claims.
But the pastor can’t allow his sheep to feel safe having any small doubt about his seniority, so he frames it as the “spirit of mocking in Uganda” and condemns it ASAP.
Attack:
The pastor goes ahead to attack Gashumba’s character, claiming him to be a liar who attacks everybody including the Katikkiro, the president, and even the Catholic Church.
Yet again, a lot of words unrelated to the actual topic at hand. He has successfully distracted his followers.
Since he already has the sympathy of the church in his defamation sexual assault case, he sacrifices it and brings it up here, but still framing Gashumba as the main offender behind the case and glazing over the actual incident.
Suddenly Gashumba is a horrible man. He abuses people and calls them foolish and stupid, so he is positioned as having no credibility. Gashumba is now a liar and a horrible person who tried to frame our pastor for a horrible thing. The actual victims or details of the case are not addressed. It is merely a distraction. Are you following?
Reverse Victim and Offender:
When someone says “enough is enough, you have crossed the line”, you instantly imagine that this person has undergone so much injustice and they are now ready to stand up for themselves. It is a statement that immediately evokes sympathy.
Kayanja has already listed a number of fellow “victims” of Gashumba’s evil mouth, as proof that he is a bad man who should not be emulated by Kayanja’s good followers of Christ.
He launches into a recollection of some bomb incident that happened at his church, and equates Gashumba’s statements to an actual bomb threat. He implies that Gashumba is no different from the terrorist as he has also threatened to bring “a bomb” to the church to “finish them”, and resorts to threatening him with the same “bomb” to “finish him” instead.
Meanwhile I’m pretty sure there are people who say much worse things about pastors and the church, but Gashumba poses a bigger threat, having the platform and influence that he has.
Bonus tactic - Extremist language
If you listen carefully, you will find that narcissists when confronted tend to use extremist language to make a point and stir people’s emotions.
“Waging war against the church”
“Destroying people”
“Attacking elders”
“Enemies of the church”
“Beware”
“Terrorist”
“Finish him”
This is not to derail Christians or their beliefs, or to say that Kayanja is a narcissist/fake pastor or Gashumba is totally innocent, or whatever whosoever said was right or wrong.
This is intended to identify the ways in which narcissists hide behind positions of power and influence, and also the ways they react to confrontation/being exposed. Fortunately or unfortunately, this video demonstrates a typical narcissist’s reaction accurately.
Go home and listen to your leaders. Think about the interactions you’ve had with family members/friends. See if you can identify anyone with these characters from the signs we have discussed above. (100 marks)
And it is possible that you yourself might be the narcissist so don’t just go pointing fingers. They love to do that too.
Anyway don’t come at me but I feel like anyone whose entire career and wealth is built on “spreading the word of God” is an automatic red flag. Otherwise everyone is welcome to believe what they want.
Thoughts?

Opinion/Discussion Which AI-related courses or skills should I learn to gain an advantage in Uganda’s education sector?
I have been pursuing a Bachelor of Science with Education at Makerere University, with a focus on teaching Biology and Chemistry at the secondary school level.
I wasn't happy with the course all along, plus despite the struggles I faced while at campus, missing lectures and tests doing odd jobs to survive.
Unfortunately, I accumulated some retakes during my course, which means I won’t be graduating this coming January as I had initially hoped. I’m considering clearing the retakes over the coming years, but in the meantime, I don’t want to waste this period.
With AI becoming increasingly relevant across different industries, I’m thinking of using this time to acquire practical AI skills that could give me a competitive advantage in the education sector, particularly in Uganda.
I’m interested in skills that could help me develop educational tools, or even create additional income opportunities within the education space, because am not interested in being a classroom teacher for long, even though am currently employed to teach at a certain mid level school
My questions are:
* Which AI-related courses or certifications would you recommend for someone with my background?
* Should I focus on AI in education, data science, programming, educational technology, or something else entirely?
* Are there affordable or free courses that offer practical, marketable skills?
* Considering Uganda’s current education system and the direction AI is heading, which skills do you think will be most valuable over the next 3–5 years?
I’m open to learning online and investing time in developing a skill that has real-world applications, rather than collecting certificates that don’t translate into opportunities.
I’d appreciate advice from people working from all education related fields

Vent/Rant 😤 “We went to the bush" has been the answer to everything for 40 years and I'm tired
Ok I'll say it, even if I lose karma.
I'm not against people who actually fought. Luweero happened, people died, nobody serious denies that. My problem is how it's used as a trump card in every single conversation. Question the budget, "we went to the bush." Ask why your cousin with a first class degree is jobless, "we went to the bush."
It's not even just us complaining on Reddit. Col (rtd) James Mwesigye, a commissioner for RDCs, said last November that the "we went to the bush" chapter is nearing its end, and admitted the liberation identity has at times created a sense of superiority among some officials. When someone inside the system admits that, kati what are we even arguing about. This is the same man who encouraged civil servants to openly support the President, which is not exactly what the public service code says.
Then Mzee himself, campaigning in Lango in December, was reminding people he cleared Ojuku, Kony, Lakwena and the cattle rustlers, and complaining that those efforts aren't appreciated. Ssebo it's 2026. You can't keep sending the country an invoice for 1985.
What annoys me most is the land. Luweero residents told the Monitor that a man claiming to be a Bush War veteran and NRM cadre demolished Steven Mugambwa's house. In Luweero, of all places, where people actually suffered. The title is doing more work than the person.
And the real ordinary veterans? More than 5,000 of them have been camping at a primary school in Kiboga since 2017, waiting on compensation they say they were promised. So it's not even the guys who fought who are eating. It's the ones who talk loudest about it. Govt keeps saying Shs230 billion has been paid out, so where is it going?
So no, I don't hate veterans. I hate the card. Pay the ones in Kiboga, and stop using sacrifice as a title deed.

Self promotion 🤔 Are Pastors Still Performing Miracles? Pastor Kayanja vs. Frank Gashumba Sparks Debate in Uganda!
big question: Have you ever witnessed a miracle that you believe was real, or should claims of miraculous healing be backed by evidence?
Can faith and modern medicine work together, or do you think some religious leaders make promises they cannot prove?
A heated debate has emerged in Uganda over faith, miracles, and the role of pastors in healing.
Frank Gashumba has challenged claims about miraculous healing, arguing that people who are seriously ill should seek proper medical treatment. Pastor Robert Kayanja and other religious leaders have become part of the wider discussion about faith and miracles.

General What can $20 USD buy in your country?
I’m planning to start donating to an orthodox orphanage (I’m still determining if it’s a scam or not) but I would like to know how much $20 could get you or a group in Uganda. If it is legit, I’d like to make donations when I can, but I’d like to send enough to help them. Can anyone provide any knowledge on the currency, inflation and such?
Thank you😊

Business question/advice/discussion WhatsApp group for virtual reality enthusiasts
So I’ve had a WhatsApp channel to send people updates about immersive tech, any news or trends they should be aware of when working with this tech, and tips about using it in their work.
Immersive tech is a mix of virtual reality, augmented reality, etc.
I’ve seen how well the Ugandan developer groups are doing on WhatsApp: people asking and answering questions, advertising/getting feedback on their work and connecting.
The XR channel has a mix of enthusiasts, entrepreneurs/creators interested in using the tech, and people learning how to work with it.
I think this could be the perfect blend of people to have in this group, for networking and sharing opportunities. I’m going to turn the channel into a group instead.
Is this something that might interest people here? To take part in it?

General Any badminton players or places to play in Kampala? 🏸
Hey everyone! Does anyone know of any places to play badminton in Kampala, or any groups that meet up to play?
Growing up, my dad used to take me to play at Lugogo, and I even had my own racket back then. It’s been a while, but lately, I’ve been thinking about getting back into it. I’d love to buy a new racket, find somewhere to play, and maybe meet people who are also into badminton.
So, if you know any badminton courts, casual games, clubs, or groups that welcome beginners or people getting back into the sport, please let me know!
Would love to hear your recommendations. Thanks! 🏸

Opinion/Discussion Charcoal vs Electric Food Preparation — Analysis for a muntu wawansi
I asked my personal AI agent
"I want you to go window shopping for cooking ware with an 80,000 to 200,000 price range. Consider power consumption and best specs."
"Do a charcoal comparison"
It's a good start. The graphs on pricing and comparison with charcoal are attached.
The analysis by Eskai:
ERA/UEDCL announced Q4 2026 tariffs on 5 October, and the domestic rate is now UGX 779.4/kWh. The 756.2 figure I gave you earlier was the Q1 2026 base; it's superseded. That's a ~3% increase, and it matters because the whole verdict on charcoal hinges on it.
The Q4 domestic structure is tiered:
• First 15 kWh/month: UGX 250 (lifeline)
• 16–80 kWh: UGX 779.4
• 81–150 kWh: UGX 412
• Above 150 kWh: back to UGX 779.4
Updated list at 779.4
Every row roughly 3% dearer than before, but the ranking is unchanged. The one that jumps out is the Hoffmans infrared single hob: UGX 1,169 per use — the most expensive thing on the sheet to actually run.
The charcoal comparison — and it's closer than I'd have guessed
Charcoal in Kampala is UGX 2,000/kg (a 50 kg bag runs 98,000–120,000; bought in small tins it's more like 2,500–3,000). Charcoal carries ~30 MJ/kg, so 8.33 kWh/kg — but a typical Ugandan metal stove only delivers 15–25% of that into the pot.
Cost per useful kWh of heat actually delivered to the pot:
• Charcoal @ 20% stove efficiency: UGX 1,200
• Infrared hob @ 779.4: UGX 1,199 — dead level
• Hot plate coil: UGX 1,113
• Rice cooker: UGX 974
• Air fryer: UGX 917
• Pressure cooker: UGX 866
So at the full domestic rate, buying an infrared hob to replace charcoal saves you essentially nothing. It's a cleanliness, smoke and convenience purchase, not an energy one. The saving comes from the efficient appliances — the pressure cooker above all.
Head to head on the same tasks: rice UGX 360 charcoal vs 273 electric; a fried batch 660 vs 491; a long bean stew 1,440 vs 522 on the pressure cooker. Monthly, at 2.75 kg/day: charcoal UGX 165,000 vs electric UGX 135,655 — an 18% saving, with payback on any of these units in 4–5.5 months.
The catch you need to see before deciding
That rosy "57% cheaper" figure on the chart holds only if the household stays inside the 81–150 kWh band. Full electric cooking needs about 174 kWh/month, which on its own blows past the 150 cap — and every unit above 150 reverts to 779.4. So a household that switches everything to electricity gets the 18% saving, not the 57%.
The winning move is therefore partial substitution: cook rice, frying and pressure-cooker dishes electrically — the three things that genuinely beat charcoal — and leave the long, low-value simmering on charcoal. That keeps total consumption under 150 units, lands you in the 412 band, and captures the large saving. If you electrify everything, you price yourself back out of the cheap tier.
Revised recommendation
• Buy the Pixel 7L EPC (160,000) — it's the only appliance that beats charcoal decisively on running cost (866 vs 1,200 per useful kWh), and it's the one that displaces the most expensive charcoal task.
• Then the Sonashi SRC-318 (160,000, 273/use) or the Globalstar 7L air fryer (139,999, 491/use).
• Skip the hob as an energy play. At parity with charcoal it buys you no savings — only if you want the smoke and soot gone is it worth the 115,000.
Two caveats worth holding: the charcoal price is the softest number here, and if you're buying in small tins at 2,500–3,000/kg rather than by the sack, electricity wins by a much wider margin. And my per-use figures assume typical duty cycles, so treat them as comparative rather than as a prediction of your bill.
Shifting to electricity only if it were reliable makes perfect sense.
