Vent/Rant š¤ āWe went to the bush" has been the answer to everything for 40 years and I'm tired
Ok I'll say it, even if I lose karma.
I'm not against people who actually fought. Luweero happened, people died, nobody serious denies that. My problem is how it's used as a trump card in every single conversation. Question the budget, "we went to the bush." Ask why your cousin with a first class degree is jobless, "we went to the bush."
It's not even just us complaining on Reddit. Col (rtd) James Mwesigye, a commissioner for RDCs, said last November that the "we went to the bush" chapter is nearing its end, and admitted the liberation identity has at times created a sense of superiority among some officials. When someone inside the system admits that, kati what are we even arguing about. This is the same man who encouraged civil servants to openly support the President, which is not exactly what the public service code says.
Then Mzee himself, campaigning in Lango in December, was reminding people he cleared Ojuku, Kony, Lakwena and the cattle rustlers, and complaining that those efforts aren't appreciated. Ssebo it's 2026. You can't keep sending the country an invoice for 1985.
What annoys me most is the land. Luweero residents told the Monitor that a man claiming to be a Bush War veteran and NRM cadre demolished Steven Mugambwa's house. In Luweero, of all places, where people actually suffered. The title is doing more work than the person.
And the real ordinary veterans? More than 5,000 of them have been camping at a primary school in Kiboga since 2017, waiting on compensation they say they were promised. So it's not even the guys who fought who are eating. It's the ones who talk loudest about it. Govt keeps saying Shs230 billion has been paid out, so where is it going?
So no, I don't hate veterans. I hate the card. Pay the ones in Kiboga, and stop using sacrifice as a title deed.
