Other Looking for UC Berkeley housing options

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am a Spring 2027 transfer admit and wanted to hear about what people’s experiences are like when looking for roommates and housing, specifically off-campus housing around the area. I’m looking for any recommendations for off-campus living and any websites/suggestions to find affordable and safe options near campus?

University I'm so tired of failing at this school (pre-med edition)

I really just wanted to rant on here bc I can not bring myself to cry about exams anymore because I'm so mentally tapped out. Ever since sophomore year, I have not passed a single exam with a B or higher. I'm currently a junior, and I am taking chem 3a and physics 8a together, and I just did both midterms last week. I feel so sick bc I know I did so horribly on them despite how much I studied, went to OH, and I even finally got diagnosed and medicated for ADHD (which was what ruined my life sophomore year; I had to get care or I was bound to drop out). And even though the scores are not out yet, I feel so much anxiety that I can't even do tasks bc of how anxious I am. This has been happening for so long, and I swore to myself that I would get all As from junior year onward (since I'm premed and want an upward trend in my grades). But I feel so useless and stupid, idk what to do anymore. I can't bring myself to cry; I can't even celebrate my birthday tomorrow bc of how stressed I am about failing. I'm just so mentally and emotionally checked out, like I'm done.

Local Anyone interested in joining a virtual walking group for accountability?

Hi everyone! Anyone interested in joining my virtual walking group, Berkeley Step Check? 🚶‍♀️ I commute to campus and am not always around, so I thought this would be a fun way to connect with others virtually. My personal goal is to lose some weight and stay consistent with walking lol. Whether your goal is weight loss, staying active, or just getting more steps in, we can share our progress and keep each other accountable. Open to all! :)

Berkeley Walk & Motivate

Add me on StepUp, a fun app to track steps & compete with friends!

University Want to take PHYSED32 for bio breadth - is it worth it?

• Upvotes

Has anyone taken PHYSED32 specifically taught by Lon Rork and Steven Murray? I've been seeing a lot of mixed reviews where one professor is rated significantly higher than the other. I'm hoping this will be a straightforward class that won't take up too much of my time. Thanks

Hello! ISO live musicians for an event on December 27th, 2026, in Walnut Creek.
We are looking for around 3 hours of performance time, from approximately 1 pm to 4 pm, and are hoping to have a violin and cello duo.
Please let me know if you would be interested, and what your rate would be. We specifically need one song performed (we have sheet music that can be sent ahead of time), the rest can be your choice, DM for details.
Thank you in advance!

Other Put on a mask or stay at home if you are sick please

The sheer number of people I encountered recently who would cough straight into the open air has been pissing me off. It is worse if you are in the same lecture or discussion room with them.

Professors give out slip days for a reason…If you are sick, please stay at your own rooms or get medication pls..

CS/EECS CS 164 with Chasins?

Next semester, CS 164 is taught by Chasins. Thoughts? I've heard past semesters have been terribly organized but can't find any sentiment on Chasin semesters specifically.

I have no experience with languages or compilers.

61A and 61B were both doable for me and very interesting, 61C (right now) has been super super interesting but a fair amount of work, 70 was tough but cool, 168 (rn) is easy and interesting enough, 188 was easy but insanely boring, and 189 so far is hella hard but interesting stuff.

Thoughts on taking 164 next semester? Given my background and the professor? Any recs about what not to take at the same time?

University Any Moroccans who joined UC Berkeley labs / top US research programs? Looking for application & experience advice!

Salam everyone!

I'm a student from Morocco currently studying engineering, and my main target is to join a research lab at UC Berkeley (or similar top US research institutions).

If any Moroccan students or researchers here have successfully navigated this path (whether through research internships, visiting scholar programs, or graduate studies), I would love to learn from your experience!

A few specific questions I have:

  1. Admission & Selection: What was the single hardest part of the admission/selection process coming from a Moroccan academic background?
  2. Standing Out: What types of projects, research experience, or technical preparation made the biggest impact on getting accepted into the lab?
  3. Process & Logistics: How did you handle finding opportunities/funding, contacting professors, and managing the application timeline?
  4. General Advice: What do you wish you knew before applying, and what mistakes should I avoid?

Any advice, insights, or tips would mean a lot!pleasee, feel free to reply below or shoot me a DM if you prefer.

Shukran بزاف!

Politics former school board member Laura Babitt mocked complaints from Spanish-speaking families

I saw that Laura Babitt was running for City Council in District 1 and remembered her obnoxious demeanor when she was on the school board back in 2021, when she was dismissive and practically contemptuous of Latino parents' concerns about Spanish language access. Here she is in this video around the 3h58m12s mark interrupting a Latina school board member over and over again; when the latter asks, "can I finish my comment?" Babitt responds: "You can if it's gonna be something new! ... Well, you can anyway, but I'm pretty sure we know what you're going to say."

Local government meetings are usually super boring and tedious affairs but I think it's reasonable to expect more grace a public official actually being paid to be there. Can you imagine snapping at a colleague like that in a meeting in a normal office job and not getting fired? I saw her get combative like this for no good reason at a few school board meetings so I didn't vote for her reelection in 2024. Make of this what you will!
