Biddy in the Big Time! Scrib Doon: The inside story of how Biddy Blas became an instant Star Wars icon (Exclusive)
A week ago, actor Richard Summers-Calvert read the phrase ‘Glup Shitto’ for the first time. “I went, ‘What's this?’,” he recalls of seeing it hit his mentions. “’Is it rude?’”
Yes, and no. Coined by Tumbler user ‘gomjabbar’ in 2020, the term began as a somewhat derisory Star Wars meme, poking fun at the saga’s myriad oddball bit-players. That guy in the background of the Cantina, who someone will inevitably claim as their favourite Star Wars character? Oh, that’s Glup Shitto. In the intervening years, the notion of a ‘Glup Shitto’ has been re-embraced. It’s a badge of honour. If you love Star Wars, it’s likely for the Glup Shittos. And a new one has just entered the chat: welcome, Biddy Blas.
It happened as soon as Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched; a new super-speedy racing game which casts players as Shade, a rising star battling on the track for dominance against all kinds of galactic foes. There’s Sebulba from The Phantom Menace, your in-game nemesis Kestar Bool, and… wait, who’s that? A little crocodile man, with a snout full of jagged teeth. Waist-height, in human terms. A little helmet and goggles on. And it gets weirder when he speaks: a screaming high-pitched yelp, belting out Huttese phrases with gleeful venom. The only way Jabba would ever speak like this is if someone stood on the tip of his tail. He is Biddy Blas, the one and only. And he’s voiced by Summers-Calvert, who had no idea the sort of instant internet fame the character would achieve.
There’s one big question, though. “I'm having people argue online if I am a Glup Shitto, or not a Glup Shitto,” he says. “I absolutely am a Star Wars fan. I love Star Wars. However, this experience has made me realise maybe how little I knew about Star Wars. I'm just below the knowledge of ‘Glup Shitto’.” Start your engines.
Even before he knew what Biddy Blas looked like – before he knew about Glup Shittos, before he even knew that he was auditioning for a new Star Wars game – the limited character information Summers-Calvert received led him down a specific path. “I decided that this character has little man syndrome,” he says. “Maybe lacking confidence, slightly anxious, and it comes out in rage.” This is what he channelled in his first read (in Basic, of course).
It wasn’t exactly what developers Fuse Games first envisioned. “I was imagining in my head more of a deeper fantasy dwarf voice,” says Ren Alex-Rose, Narrative Designer. “And then when we heard Richard's audition, we were like, ‘No, that's it. That's absolutely it. That is the perfect direction for this character.’”

Street Fighter Movie Spoilers Yall the Street Fighter movie is ROUGH. Spoiler
I just got out of the movie and I feel legitimately bad for the hardcore fans. This movie has ok fights but they are constantly hampered by subpar cinematography, and a weirdly homophobic script. Like they seem to REALLY think that “men about to kiss each other/saying sexual things” is the peak of comedy and they don’t stop doing it. It also is more “MCU quippy” than most MCU movies.
This movie also
•character assassinates Ryu AND Ken
•turns Bison into a weird sex pest
•has the Dragonball Evolution kamehameha for the Hadouken
•has needle drops worse than Supergirl
•doesn’t have the raging demon
There are some fun references, it was nice to see Max, and the actors do their best, but insanely they could learn a thing or two from Mortal Kombat, because BOTH of those movies were better written, paced, and shot.

So, how we feeling about that new Castlevania game?
Been playing Belmont's Curse all day, and hot damn; I'm having fun. Just got past the gate that leads to the Catacombs and I'm loving it. The atmosphere and music are great, the movement feels fun and fluid, the combat feels great (God, I love the brass knuckles you get in this game), and Rose is already growing on me as a protag. How about you guys? Loving it? Absolutely hate it? Any Castlevania 3 fans on their knees crying to God "Why do they keep on forgetting about Grant being part of Trevor's party in 3?!!"? Let me know; I'm curious on how the sub is feeling.

Better Ask Reddit What's a community meme/culture that you're just tired of
I'm genuinely curious and maybe just wanna vent a little that's not in those communities.
Like I know this is the community built on in jokes and memes. But I don't think any of them are particularly toxic.
But like, coming from the mentally ill gacha communities. Man I'm just tired of the cuck memes that exist. In. Every. One. Of. Them. (Nikke being the one that pisses me off the most).
Or when certain communities just kinda take the *idea* of a character and change it so much that the original character isn't remembered. Like fucking Undertale became unbearable after so many AU Sans.
This post might get removed for the possible discourse but I just wanted to ask a community that I felt was pretty neutral and mostly reasonable people.

(Does Kirby count?) Anywho I think Bishops psychic? Superpower of absorbing and releasing energy attacks is fun because he combos it with future tech and laser GUNS. So he's never out of options and tougher than you think especially against Special Attack.
What are yout favorite energy attack absorbers?

Better Ask Reddit Who ARE the most divorced people in all of fiction?
I presume this list will be predominantly male cause I can't really think of a lot of women who let divorce affect them as badly as men do, but I'm sure they exist right? I made another Better Ask Reddit in the past about divorce affecting writers as well so I figured this should make for a decent sequel thread.
Inspired by the discussion of Harry from Disco Elysium being so divorced that otherworldly beings are in awe of both how divorced you are and how you still keep going despite that.
My other pitch is, of course, Asgore, who seems to he partially coming apart at the seams like Harry is, conspiracy board and investigations and everything, but what about ya'll? Who are your pitches?

Better Ask Reddit One Sided Fandom/Franchise Feuds?
With a go ahead from the Mod team, I wanted to ask today about feuds between fandoms that really seem to just be one side fighting with another. The inspiration for this was, amusingly, all those Youtube videos talking about how Hollywood is 'cooked' or how Disney 'hates' Glitch animation.
When the simple reality of it is...not only do I think the fandoms for Disney properties not care, but I also think neither Disney nor Hollywood really care that much. Hell, Obsession was picked up for distribution and marketing by Universal, and the Backrooms had A24 behind it, so if anything it's an example of Youtube being 'co-opted' by Hollywood. It really feels like one fandom waging war against a side that doesn't even acknowledge or care that much. (Of course some of them are most likely just engagement bait creators.)
For a more exact example, Battleborn! For those who have forgotten, Battleborn was Gearbox's attempt at an FPS Moba, it was actually really fun but had the misfortune of launching right when Overwatch launched. The Battleborn Twitter, for some reason-thought it was a good idea to try and directly compete with Overwatch with a "Come at me, bro." style tweet.
This is especially weird given Randy "Grease Man" Pitchford himself explicitly said in an interview they were nervous about the competition, and trying to deliberately avoid it because, in his own, accurate words-BATTLEBORN IS NOT IN THE SAME GENRE AS OVERWATCH. Yes, both were Hero FPS games, but one was an objective shooter and the other was a MOBA. And yet he decided to back off on that and just try to invite a feud.
Blizzard...completely ignored this conflict and just walked off with their gold medal, got OW killed, and then revived it later. But Battleborn is gone for good. Only remembered for that failed attempt at competition.
Note that for the purposes of this thread, I am asking about one sided feuds between fandoms and franchises, not explicitly characters. That's a great topic, but I'm more interested in the IRL aspect of it.

TW: Shogun 2 Complete Edition's launch is going well
PCGamesN reported on it, relevant bits below.
Creative Assembly has just announced that it will be removing the Total War Shogun 2 Complete Edition from sale for the time being. The updated and overhauled remaster of the beloved 2011 original has been blasted by players since its launch on Tuesday October 13, and currently sits at just 17% positive reviews on Steam. The developer plans to investigate community concerns to bring the Complete Edition up to "the quality standards players expect," and says that it will be reinstating the old version of Shogun 2 during this time.
Among the rest of the complaints, players report bugs from the old game that haven't been fixed, along with new issues that have arisen in the Complete Edition, and poor optimization that is causing underwhelming performance and crashes for many users.
The new unit cards have also been heavily criticized, with players accusing the designs of feeling "AI-generated." Creative Assembly and development partner Mataboo, which worked on the remaster, have not listed any generative AI use as part of the game's development.
Hard to see how the likes of this and this could be the result of anything but generative AI upscaling.

News/Articles Palworld picks spin-offs over a Fortnite-style metaverse because "maximizing revenue as quickly as possible isn’t what drives our creative decisions," says Pocketpair lead | GamesRadar+
Developer and publisher Pocketpair has got a dating sim, a farming sim, and an MMO on the slate, and while you might think elements of these would make more sense as expansions of the main game, the team isn't keen on simply replicating Fortnite's metaverse-type model.
"I can certainly understand why some people might expect us to take Palworld in that direction," John 'Bucky' Buckley, the head of publishing and communications at Pocketpair, says "But for us, we just want to make fun games in our own way. I know it sounds a bit cliché, but while we obviously want our games to be successful, maximizing revenue as quickly as possible isn’t what drives our creative decisions."

News/Articles Hideo Kojima praises Digger in a discussion about the film with Iñárritu, published by Gizmodo Japan
What were your thoughts on Iñárritu's new film, "DIGGER"?
Hideo Kojima (hereinafter, Kojima): "I saw it yesterday, and it's a wonderful and clever film. It's not a story about meteorites falling or aliens attacking, but rather depicts things that are actually happening in reality. It's a very scary film, but that's precisely why it's turned into a comedy. I don't know how much I can say, but this work has a dual structure of film and theater, and in the end, the theater comes out not as something about the future, but as something about the past. That structure is very well done, and I was quite surprised. Also, since I like movies, it reminded me of Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove" (1964) and the BBC's nuclear war drama "Threads" (1984), and Tom's monologue scene in the film reminded me of Chaplin's "The Great Dictator" (1940). It's a total art form that includes classics and the history of theatrical film. There's a powerful message embedded in it, showing us something terrifying. It has a very complex structure, but it was a very easy-to-understand film".
