The relationship that mattered the most to me ended a few days ago.

It hurts.

I feel like a part of me died. I'm sure I can find someone someday, but I don't think it'll ever be the same. I've been trying to just live my life but it lingers in my mind 24/7, I can physically feel it in my heart.

I hope you guys are doing good.

I'm sorry to hear that man. I hope things get better

Did it end on good or bad terms? If you feel like sharing.

It's complicated. We were going to take our relationship to the next step. I flinched. It hurt them because of other factors that already made our relationship complicated. It was too much for them, it was hurting them. They said they still loved me. They wished me well.

I hate myself for not taking the leap. I keep replaying it in my head. I want nothing more then to go back in time and fix it.

Saying they loved me was the last exchange we had.

I'm sorry friend. Take it day by day and remember to be kind to yourself.

A part of me wants to let the dark swallow me.

But they wouldn't want that.

I want to make them proud of me, even if I can never hear it from them directly anymore

Actually a varied week for once. Played some games, watched some movies, read a book, built a model kit and made my first platelet donation. One bum note: it looks like the writer's meetup I've been going to has been quietly axed, probably due to low turnout. Can't say I blame those in charge, but it's disappointing, nonetheless.

Just kinda plugging away in some grindy games. Destiny 2 remains fun. So does Fortnite. I ended up falling off Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League because the endgame is way too repetitive. Killing Floor 3 dropped its Halloween update today, which is cool, if slight.

(I should really play a game that doesn't involve guns once in a while, huh?)

I watched War Machine during the aforementioned platelet donation. It's fine. It's basically just Predator, but instead of a cool alien it's a knockoff Metal Gear. When I say it like that, it sounds like a fun movie, but there's just not much going on. Also, I found it distracting that the gigantic alien robot is super slow and loud until it needs to be fast and quiet for plot reasons.

In preparation for the new movie, I also watched Street Fighter, and I've gotta say, I didn't love it. Raul Julia is just as incredible as I heard and the finale is pretty entertaining, but so much of the rest of the movie is kind of boring, to say nothing of the editing being absolutely atrocious. Feels like I could've watched some highlights on YouTube and gotten all the good stuff.

Finally, I read Joe Country, another Slough House novel. If you like spy novels and/or dry humor, you owe it to yourself to read these. I've been pacing myself, but I'll probably be all caught within a year or so — having to wait for another entry is gonna be hard.

I'm burnt out on the state of the world, AI is everywhere, every company is merging with every other company, and the industry is on fire, what should I do if I'm burnt out and depressed about the state of the world and need some kind of detox or whatever to feel better and cheer me up?

My advice? Pop open some books. Something more positive and interesting based on what you like. Local bookstores, amazon, ebay, etc. Something physical you can hold onto and experience without the use of a screen. Find a nice quiet place, put some calm, low music on, turn the PC and phone off, and just get lost in some quality physical media.

Splurge on something nice for yourself. Set a limit and do what you can.

Set up a time or day where you can go outside (maybe not the best time due to the change in cold weather) and just take a breath of nature with no set goal. Look at the sky,

Cut off social media or reduce intake. DO NOT. I repeat; DO NOT, doom scroll

Give your body some time to rejuvenate. Stretch, do yoga, anything you can to increase your blood circulation.

Remember that you, your life, has value and quality. You're a good person and someone who can and will find joy.

I find it helpful to cultivate a little routine or ritual just for yourself. Aura farm a little.

It's about finding little pieces of life that you can enjoy for yourself.

Small things I do that spark joy:

Fuck off to Kura sushi for a few plates after work.

Get some good bread. (Costco fruit+nut bread is my current favorite.)

Make myself a nice tea. (Arizona, don't really do this in summer.)

Walk the dogs by the massive 15 ft saguaro cactus house.

I have a job! Not a fancy one, or a regular ol nice one like I wanted, as no applications ever got back to me or I was outright rejected. But I'm back working the gig economy, doing food delivery for a local company. I needed money, and it was the fastest thing I could thing of. Thankfully they took me back on. Only major problem is that over the 4 years I have been away, the business has been in decline, and the number of customers has dried up, so shifts are hit or miss. I've been at it for two weeks now, and have had a couple days where I just had to go home early because there was no point working, which meant no money. So that sucks.

I'm not looking at this to be long term. Just a few months until I can land something more consistent, and hopefully having active work on my resume looks better than no work for years. Main focus right now is getting an eye exam(scheduled for tomorrow), paying towards student loans now that SAVE plan is over, then buying a Switch 2 for Fire Emblem

Other than that, I unsubbed from Final Fantasy 14 as I finished the last things I wanted to do. I got the mount from Moogle Treasure Trove after finishing the final weekly challenge. I finished grinding out the Story-Spinner set. Finally got a full set of the Monster Hunter Wilds armor. I finished the Beastmaster questline(not counting the bonus boards), got the Loosened Locks haircut from Beastmaster store, got Relic weapons for Dancer and Pictomancer, and did Hildibrand.

So now I am absolutely ready for Evercold, and there is nothing more for me to do that I care about. So on break FF14 goes until January. And I can finally play other games.

Speaking of other games, Steam Autumn Sale is here, and now that I have some money, I bought a few games. I got Star Wars Outlaws, A Plague's Tale Requiem, Alice Madness Returns, Wicked Seed, RPG Maker MZ, and a few naughty games.

So far I have only played the opening section of Star Wars Outlaws, which was pretty alright. My only problem atm is that Kay's hair is wigging the fuck out on PC. Because of the wind, its just constantly moving, and because its constantly moving, the anti-aliasing I guess cant handle it, so its just a blurry fucking mess on top of her head. And looking around on the internet, I could not find a fix or anything that helped with that particular problem, even though it was well complained about.

u/SamuraiDDD Swat Kats Booty! 6d ago

HOLY SHIT, CONGRATS ON EMPLOYMENTS!! Progress is progress <3

Nice grabs from the sale! I was thinking of grabbing some games but I decided not to and wait for the winter sale when I have more in the pocket. Have fun!

About a year and a half ago, I got a job working at a hospital and left the shitty world of retail and customer service behind me. I really like the job a lot, it really feels like my life is finally turning around for the better, even met an absolutely amazing woman and we've been together for a year now. It's kinda weird to finally feel hopeful and more upbeat about my future when all I've known was depression and anxiety for most of my life, but i like this feeling, lol!

The only issue with my job is a few of my coworkers kinda suck. There's this one woman I work with that I thought we were friends, then one day, out of the blue, she's giving me the cold shoulder and acting like we're bitter enemies. Even her friend, who I work the same shift with, is now giving both me and our shift lead attitude, and we're both kinda confused where this animosity is coming from. Like I feel like they both just manufactured a reason to hate us within their own heads honestly, because, I don't know what we're beefing about!

Then there's this kid that recently joined on, like two or so months ago, that's been nothing but problems. He clearly doesn't want to do the job and acts annoyed at having to do any amount of effort. He'll hide somewhere and just be on his phone. You may be asking, how did he get the job when he clearly doesn't want to do it? Well, you see, his daddy is someone of high influence within the hospital, that's how! That's right, it's everyone's favorite: Nepotism!

I hate this kid! Especially since I'm still struggling with thoughts of imposter syndrome, but at least I'm trying and putting in actual effort! I really don't know how long he can get away with his shit, especially since everyone is aware and hates him, but FUCK! Everyday i work with him, it is taking everything i have to keep my anger in check...

Week of Neck Pain. Man, my desk job is catching up to me again. I've been feeling chronic neck pain this week, and I have no doubt that it's from my posture. So now I'm really working on correcting it this week. The ache around my shoulder blades is certainly annoying. But if anything, I've dealt with other aches that've come with a desk job before, so I'm sure I can manage this one too.

As for games I've played this week, I played more Marathon! Now that it's got a seasonal reset, it's time to enjoy the new evened-out power level. I gotta tell you, it's really satisfying to wipe out an entire enemy trio of Runners when you're just rocking a sponsored kit. Also, they're giving everyone playing the game the current premium season pass, which is certainly a nice bonus. I did get a good bit of amusement out of the knife skin that NuCaloric provides is just an electric carving knife. I guess they really want the Runners to be prepared for Thanksgiving as well as the Pfhor.

I also got back into playing 100% Orange Juice with my friends! My old computer randomly stopped being able to play that game after an update, but since I have my new one now, I had no problem with installing and running it. Man, it sure has been a while since I booted it up last, since May 25th 2022. Now I'm getting right back into the grove of playing my fucked up quick party game with my friends. It's like Dokapon Kingdom, but much faster to get to the fun and frustration (positive). It's always good for a few rounds!

And finally, in my regular mecha talk section here, I watched more Neon Genesis Evangelion with my TTRPG group! My friend who hasn't seen it yet is rather interested in the logistics and reasoning behind it all, which especially came up since we left off on the Jet Alone episode. There certainly is a good question raised by the end of it: why is Gendo Ikari so set on shutting down other weapons that can possibly fight Angels, aside from the U.N. budget for NERV? It's a good question for a newbie like him to keep in mind moving forward.

Also, I watched more Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans with /u/CookieSkank and /u/Terthelt! We've finally kicked off the final arc of the series! It really is kind of nuts that McGillis' entire plan hinged on people actually respecting the Sword in the Stone rules that Gjallarhorn has surrounding Gundam Bael. Like, he had zero backup in case anyone refused to back down or just decided to stay neutral. But I guess that's what happens with a guy who never really grew past being the horrifically abused child that he started out as. It's like what Terthelt said while we were watching McGillis' flashback to his childhood, it's so fucking awful that it's almost funny. Being groomed as a sex slave by one of the leaders of the world is fucking rough, that's for sure. And I guess you can't even blame him for wanting to create a world run by survival of the fittest, given all that. Too bad for him that he's being entirely outdone by Rustal, since Rustal Elion is also just as much of a magnificent bastard as McGillis Fareed. More fun times at the final stretch!

Howdy y'all!

This week we're back on the Atelier grind as we started the next trilogy, Atelier Sophie. Well "started" is a bit of a misnomer as I finished Atelier Sophie this week (I started it a couple weeks ago). As expected, it's good... But definitely not perfect, and definitely not one of my favorites (those titles still goes to games in the Arland Series and Dusk).

If I had to describe Sophie, I'd definitely say it's a bit more lackadaisical then it's predecessors. After Shallie they really began committing to having no time limits, and personally I do think it causes the pacing to drag quite a bit at times. And I wasn't a big fan of the alchemy memories as a means of progression as it leads to way to many moments where you just feel like no progress is being made even when you are.

Story wise, it's mostly a pretty standard Atelier affair, where youre kinda dicking around practice alchemy, but there is a human villain at the end which was pretty surprising since normally the big bad is a monster or evil machine. But story generally isnt what you play Atelier for, you do it for the alchemy and the characters. The cast this time around is pretty good, Sophie like all atelier protage is cute and I did enjoy everyone's interactions especially between Sophie and Plachta (whose basically the Deuteragonist). The unfortunate part is looking at the future casts, most of them never show up in the trilogy again. And it's super weird that Monika who is part of the original trio never shows up again while Logy is both here from Dusk (technically it's a different character they just look the same) and shows up later.

Overall I even though I do have my complaints with this one, i still enjoyed my time, and I definitely think it has one of the more interesting Alchemy systems. One thing i will say is that I do find it humerous that even though Mysterious doesn't have the reputation that Ryza has, it still has the most blatant fanservice design in the series... It's just happens to only show up like 20 hours in.

Along side that, I also beat Nioh 3s first dlc as well. I finished The base game some time ago, but never actually talked about it because I kinda want to wait til all the dlc is out so I have a full picture. Currently, the long and short of it is, it's good, but just good. Where it's at I don't like it as much as Nioh 2, as I think Team Ninja doesn't really have a handle on this kind of open world yet (I think Rise of the Ronins world was better utilized) and the level design was definitely a step back from the nice compact levels of 2.

Lastly, just a quick round of Gacha bullshit. Rin faces might hate me, but I remain loved by the Sakura faces. In the FGO current banners, 30sq to get Kazuradrop, 180sq to get my first copy of Melt, and 3 tickets to get a copy of BB Summer who is now NP5 (and my second NP5 SSR after BB Dubai).

My neck hurts:

Games: Taking a break from The Blood of Dawnwalker because I reached a quest that I can already tell is going to annoy me. Started playing Control Resonant and it’s good. Inferno is an insanely OP ability. Exploring the zones I found a couple of different hidden surveillance posts disguised as stores that I initially thought belonged to the FBC until I found one near the Oldest House that was monitoring the FBC prior to the events of the first Control. So Manhattan is infested with a bunch of paranatural fuckery and the thing that caused me to have my most “What the fuck?” reaction so far has been finding out about some sort of mysterious organization. I also found a TV with Alan Wake on it. My brother was also around after being away for a while and we played some Wolverine together and had a good time.

Personal Life: As I said my brother was around for a bit after being away and it was good to see him. Because of housework I’ve been giving myself a headache about packing stuff and cleaning after said housework is done. I’ve also have been dealing with neck pain all week and I still can’t identify the cause. Fun.

Conclusion: I’m happy I was able to see my brother.

How do you sleep? Are you a side sleeper. Belly sleeper, etc

That might be what's causing it. Is it like a stiffness or when you turn? If anything, sound like you might have pulled some muscles there. Glad you had some good times with your bro!

Last Week's Post

Week 136 post-accident

Went to work proper this week, as things were (mostly) set up by the time I arrived on Tuesday. Mostly, however; there was some issues with my computer not connecting to the internet and thus the relevant network drive until the tech support man arrived later in the afternoon to properly connect it for me to do my core job... so in the meanwhile, I spent the bulk of Tuesday sorting physical tabs in the supply room, since that aspect hadn't been fully unpacked after the move. Got MOST of it done before my network connection was properly connected and I could begin my regular work again, which became my main focus for the remainder of the week.

Speaking of getting back to regular work, on Wednesday, I began to walk back to the OLD office location after lunch, though quickly realized I was going the wrong way and doubled back double time. It's going to require a bit more conscious effort before the old location stops being the autopilot muscle memory.

Also the wifi hasn't yet been set up at the new office, so I've been relying on personal data to connect to the internet, and listening to Youtube videos during my shifts have already burned through my 2GB of phone data for the month already as of the end of Thursday's shift. So I'm likely to be quiet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until the office gets wifi set up. :|

Not much else going on in my life beyond a wonky sleep schedule I still need to iron out (woke up late 3am on Tuesday, woke up mid-4am Wednesday, and roused during early 5am Thursday) and gradual updates to Aero GPX, which have been a little slower than expected on grounds of Games Done Quick participation resulting in schedule slip, though things are getting back on track.

Bought a ps5 and indiana jones great circle last sunday, just finished vatican and having fun. There are some clanks in the gameplay but it works in some way for me as the clumsiness sorta of work with the whole atmosphere of the game, just compelted vatican level and it's great how all the characters just make an impression so far

Good news: Mom is doing well, recovering well and been making good progress as she's been recovering!

The only real bad news this week has been the app I use at work updated and now, a day after it was working fine, decided that my current phone is incompatible. SO, new goal, I gotta save up for a new phone in the future! Until then, I do have a way to make things work for the time being.

Throughout the week, I've been BINGING Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REMASTERED. Cause it's the remaster, it was a free upgrade with ALL the DLC they've released so I've been dumping literal days when I had spare time. There's so much going on. Haven't touched mods yet, but thinking I'm gonna grab some later this weekend.

But whenever I haven't been gaming, I've been reading! I looked at what I have and found my copy of "The Little Brown Essential Handbook" Seventh Edition by Jane E. Aaron. Never hurts to brush up on the basics, you know?

I think when I can, I might need to grab some muscle/join pain relief cream this Friday after work. This has made me think to about working out again. Between work, home life and decompressing after work; I need to get back to making this body as strong as it used to be like a decade ago. Also, I need to cut back on soda, rice, bread and deep fried food. Also portion sizes. THAT's where the body needs to be fixed first.

On the other side of things: I'm working on writing up stories here and there. Also I've been helping a friend of mine make story covers for their account on various websites. NGL, I've been cooking and proud of how well they look. BUUUUT, I can NEVER share them, even here lol.

That's been my week tbh

Week of toys, I guess.

Last week I mentioned that I finally got C64 games running on my retro handheld thing (RS-97 V2) and so I've spent most days testing different games to see how well they work with the software, with the controls, etc. I'm emulating games from the era of loading from cassette, so it's a dice roll as to whether something has failed to load or is just taking that long to complete loading. That being said, it's satisfying when something actually works. In fact, I didn't even get time to try the things I got in the Steam Sale a week ago because the appeal of 8-bit crap is stronger. Maximum unc energy. The other toys came from the fact that I stumbled across a Lego sale and ordered a BTTF DeLorean. It was in the Speed Champions range and was a fairly quick build, but the final model is quite nice. However, the doors don't open or anything so unfortunately our heroes are entombed in the car forever...

Elsewhere in games, I did a little bit of article writing last night, just drafting a retrospective piece on Final Fantasy XV. I played through it for the first time earlier this year and it was a fascinating experience, because lots of smaller elements felt very "un-Final Fantasy". Anyway, I had been planning to get some thoughts written for a while, so I'm happy that I finally got there.

Oh, and last Saturday I watched my first spooky film of the month. It was 1958's Dracula, or "Horror of Dracula" as the opening calls it - the Hammer production with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. As you'd expect from something that old, it could get a bit hammy at times - but it was also really charming, with the count throwing down against Harker and Van Helsing. It did kind of settle into a rhythm of "who's the next person to end up turning against the others after being bitten by Dracula", but it was still compelling in its own unique way.

Not a lot of new music has been grabbing me this week; I've just been drafting playlists and things - considering entries for my "favourites of 2026" already. Writing and C64 stuff (not to mention personal commitments - there are some family birthday events coming up this weekend) kind of took precedence over catching up with all of my music bookmarks, but I might see what I can find later on in the weekend.

u/RevenTheLight What do you mean, you DON'T have a Sonic OC?! 6d ago edited 6d ago

Hello today! Week of ear infection (or something). Got strange clicking and pressure in my ears and finally saw a family doc about it. She said it was some inflammation after the virus I had a couple of weeks back. Got some drops and pills, already feeling better.

Lessaria saw a trailer somewhere on this subreddit and liked it. I love some Dungeon Keeper-like sims and the Warcraft-like art style is super cool. The game is a bit simple and I'm like 70% through the campaign but it's fun. I also have SPRAWL (1 and 0) downloaded and even started 1, since I was given 0 as a present and it's too fast to play consistently. I expected a "millennial shooter" akin to faster CoD, but I got coxed into soft-Ultrakill. Both are good.

MTG: Reality Fracture is so cool. I loved the story. Even if Empower Jace is not a commander I'd make, this is a "standard" set for me, I'm grinding the pass, doing my dailies like i haven't in a long time. It's fun. One thing I'm dissapointed in - GIVE ME MORE JACE CARDS WIZARDS!!! I DIDN'T GET ANY IN ARENA OR IRL! WTF?!

Lower Decks man I love this show. Decided to finally finish it in preparation for the Star Trek MTG set, but I don't remember where I stopped (looks like I finished S4) so I'm restarting from S3. It's so good. Just watched the Moopsy episode today!

Weight check-in - 181.1 - 180/180/180/165* - Only went once this week, but went pretty hard. Not losing weight sucks tho, I haven't eaten chocolate almost ever and didn't do any take out. Come on, body. I want to be 175!

I need to find a consistent way to kick my own ass and force myself to do the things I enjoy. While I'm at work all I can think about is the shit I wanna do when I get home but then when I do it's... Nothing.

It's always fun to peruse the clearance section while I'm getting cat food. Same aisle anyways! Weird finds all the time. First found Tony's Chocolonely there, last month some Hershey's bars with waffle cone bits that gave it some nice Crunch bar vibes. The most recent try is some store-brand sour watermelon gummies, a nice big bag for about a buck. I'm not sure how much of a fake watermelon fan I am. And the gummy feels more like... Chewing on overcooked steak? Maybe there's a reason things get tossed into deep discounts...

You know what's not gonna end up on clearance? You thought I was gonna go self-hating artist, but no way! These two books I wrote, The Demon in Shadow and The Demons of Bone & Blood are right here for you to enjoy! Enjoy the tale of a human and demon working together to find their separate lost things! Though maybe a few of them should've been left in the past. See some fantastic artwork in the pages like a light novel or in the back to show off character portraits!

Ace Combat 8 is so good. I may be just your humble AC7 newbie but I am prepared to make this series my whole identity. Planes go fast, people on the radio spout ideologies and then tell you you're the best. Seriously, I should be knocking this game for how much it coddles the player with messages about how the pilot is astounding or they've never seen anything like it, but I just really love it. To be fair, like the jail plot in 7 forcing you to earn your respect, this one's fake Wings plot and subsequent leaking helps a little. Support airplanes are neat (though I bet they're "better" in multiplayer which I don't wanna touch) and squad commands are great. I believe that was a returning feature. Other than that and taking two special weapons not much has changed from AC7 and that's not bad at all. Performance on PC has been good enough, like, little hitches in cutscenes when it changes scenes. Not a big problem.

Finished all the band stories for Bang Dream Our Notes, the latest Bandori game. Both millsage and Ikka Dumb Rock are so new they don't even have an anime... Yet? They did get some animated scenes in the story so I wouldn't be too surprised if it happens. I know I complained about MyGO being a little melodramatic and Ave Mujica going almost soap opera with its dark themes. Here comes millsage to really rough it up, because it's about GRIEF. Insert "It's Trauma!" sticker here. Our protag Hotaru is inspired by her piano teacher Kanata, and later tries to reconnect to see her band only to find out she passed away in the meantime. Every character represents some stage of grief, and though it's not an easy path they eventually find solace in each other and move forward. Except... Hotaru finds Kanata's diary, who quite rightfully so was very upset to be dying so young. And maybe in some weakness, hopes that the band dies with her. Hotaru pretty much breaks in 'guilt' over not respecting her wishes and instead of showing this to anyone else, just internalizes that she's not allowed to be happy anymore and to continue the band. Yikes and yikes. This better just be a prologue and we get goddamn THERAPY for this lady. On the other hand, Ikka Dumb Rock is fun with the right amount of dramatics. I do wish Miku pushed back on the family stuff earlier but that is part of her character growth. And while Yomogi is really tragic... Her VA is killing it and makes everything hilarious. I'm excited to see the future for these guys. Though, and I know I said it before, wish there were more songs. Other than like three band scores that I need to pump, I have everything and played all of it on Hard and a few on Expert. They did add a cover of Yuyu Hakusho's OP! Though having the chorus repeat twice at the end, not great. I didn't realize that the English version was locked away in my head somewhere until I heard the melody. Memory's weird.

Under the guidance of my GM (you might've seen the thread on the subreddit) I went and saw Digger. It was a movie, undoubtedly. I wasn't hot on the previews especially considering the whole dying cat thing and forgot about that right until it started and... Ah, hell. Of course, not anything is as it seems and when it plays the card of being a play within the film, it does get interesting there. Like, why could I find it hard to separate the cat from fiction before that? The jokes that landed for me were less the actual script jokes and more seeing the 'edges' of the theater like mannequins in Parliament. This plays with the perception of figures and stories under adaptations and for the most part I'd say it works for me. There's a lot of people that say otherwise online, and going by the box office numbers... Oof. It certainly won't be for everyone and I think calling it a "better/worse version of Don't Look Up" (which is what I did initially) is selling it short. But I'd still say that it's worth a watch for the experience and performance craft on screen.

Also been checking out the Carrie series. It interests me because of Mike Flanagan at the helm, and it definitely clocks those Midnight Mass vibes. Sorry, I know I need to see the Hauntings and Usher but that's all I got on me. Famous Astrogoblin's Rahul Kohli's here! Of course he is, being a regular. Samantha Sloyan is playing Carrie's mother and boy does she have that same Bev energy that just makes her a great villain. Horrible character in the right ways. I'm still two episodes off from finishing but it has been an experience. I'll get around to reading the book someday. Or any King book. Probably. Maybe. Eh...

Well I'm currently sick which isn't great but on the better side of things I've managed to binge a bunch of Batman the Animated series with a good friend. Though we've obviously been enjoying the great storytelling and animation we've also been goobers over the beautiful babed lol. I'm a Poison Ivy chap myself though the Marilyn Monroebot from the Hardac two parter also was quite nice.

Besides that just been doing some driving and favours for a friend of my mum who is visiting, she has been very fun company. Yesterday I went to the city to go see the Jim Henson exhibit they had going on, took a ton of photos of the Dark Crystal section as someone who loves the movie and the prequel tv series. I also picked up an original blue case of The Legend of Spyro a New Beginning to replace my platinum case with a damaged manuel and may use that as an excuse to replay the games yet again though I want to do the Reignited trilogy first since been a while since touched it.

I did a triple feature last Saturday when I went out to watch Verity, Primetime, and Digger. Watching those last two back to back incidentally reinforced the later's point about effective change and the issues with spectacle and immediate catharsis taking precedence over it.

I also have been enjoying my new PS5 Pro. I think I mentioned it last week, but I picked it up less for a specific reason and more that I am seriously doubting getting the PS6 and figured a minor upgrade now that I have an OLED would be nice. The higher resolution and ray tracing is really nice.

As for more pessimistic news, I always swing back and forth when it comes to be extreme dislike of communities, distrust of people, self perception as it relates to other people, and the desire to belong.

I don't think I'm exactly making a shocking statement when I say that nerd spaces have always had issues with hostility towards marginalized people. But even beyond all that, my nitpicky nature still finds a way to find fault with even more firent presenting communities. And I guess to go there, it is also a fact that marginalized groups are more than capable and have indeed been hostile to each other without any sort of conspiracy. It is why I am severely hostile when some people talk about "distractions" or how the ruling class is piling us against each other. Even if they may inflame tensions, those tensions are not entirely manufactured and pretending like they are is not solidarity.

Made a lot of progress with my Resident Evil script this week. It wasn't as hard as I thought to divide up all the aspects of combat, but there are a lot of details I wanted to mention that didn't flow together perfectly or didn't get enough time, so I'll probably rewrite some parts. Might actually hit my record for word count though, which makes my looming Halloween deadline all the scarier. But it's good and that's what matters.

I also got to try PEAK yesterday. It's my first friendslop game and I had a lot of fun in my group of three. All of the gimmicks do a good job of shifting the nature of the problem while also pushing you to keep moving. Reached a very undignified end on a cactus wall in biome 3, but it was one hell of a journey.

I've received my grades for almost all my midterms, so I'm basically just enjoying a bit of a free week or two before I have to get my ass back on gear for finals.

And honestly, I'd love to say that I'm playing a lot of things, but really, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy has absolutely consumed my head. This game fucks, hard. I'm on 20/100 endings so far (though I admit I've been skipping those that are clearly just glorified game overs), and have finished Romance, Killing Game and Coming-of-Age route.

This might honestly be one of the strongest casts in a Kodaka game. I genuinely like all fifteen of the SDU members and have laughed out loud at their antics quite a lot. Sure, they do suffer from Kodaka standard "gimmick is my whole personality" (looking at you, Shouma) sometimes, but then they do some shit to break it down and elevate themselves. I dunno, I really like them.

I'm playing it in English, so the dub voices range from "well..." to "Elsie Lovelock". Some of these folks put out absolute all-timer performances (like Nezar Alderazi as Eito or Sarah Pitard as Darumi), while others could admittedly use some work. As much as I like Ima, his voice is kinda flat most of the time.

Part of the reason why I liked Coming-of-Age so much is precisely because it was more Nezar going absolutely ham as Eito. Genuinely amazed at how good his performance is once Eito goes fucking insane. Honestly, he absolutely sells the fake-nice veneer hiding absolute "righteous" insanity. Also, Killing Game route ending with a polycule-in-all-but-name was absolute fire. This might actually be because Kodaka is basically the head honcho this time around, but I do like how a lot of what would've been subtext in Danganronpa is now just text, like Yugamu's bisexualilty. Or... practically the entirety of the SDU's bisexuality.

I'm just rambling at this point but in summary go play the damn game already. It's real good.

I'm loving Ace Combat 8! Did a machine gun only run and a no hit run for the medals. Just finished a run to hunt down every named ace in every mission. Gonna try to knock out the achievements for ace and ace s rank at the same time next. And then get all the medals as well.

u/Irishimpulse I've got Daddy issues and a Sailor Suit, NOTHING CAN STOP ME 6d ago

I was playing the new Darktide update, but fell in a hole on Saturday, got soft tissue damage to both arms, and only got out of hospital Wednesday. My right arm isn't fully recovered and I can't move it like I used to, typing is much harder than it used to be, and I got diagnosed with diabetes so my life style has to change now. Shit sucks, but I can play a lot of other games with controller, and that works fine. I just can't use my right arm for precise mouse control now, don't know how long it'll be until I can use my right arm 100% again, if ever. So my week has been the worst.

u/SamuraiDDD Swat Kats Booty! 6d ago

God man, I'm sorry about your injuries. I'm wishing you the best! On the bright side, the injuries and diabetes can be reversed over time. I'm making some changes to my diet to so I'm with you there.

Take it low and slow, you'll recover in no time

u/Irishimpulse I've got Daddy issues and a Sailor Suit, NOTHING CAN STOP ME 6d ago

After testing blood sugar in the hospital 4 times a day, and now two days in home also doing it 4 times a day. It's a fucking random number generator. I've stayed on diet, exercise after meals, and it goes from 13 to 5 between readings. I'm going to give myself a stress heart attack because the random number generator said so

As an Mother series fan since 2008. I’m finally chipping away at Earthbound for the first time instead of being a fan through YouTube lets players who talk too much about Earthbound and scream “NO!” at the asshole known as Porky Minch. (If you know, you know.) thank you Pat for making me decided to finish it instead of starting and stopping like always.

u/PrestigeTater 5d ago

Just saw Digger and i have to say, I wasn't what I was expecting. Also I feel like the hate for it is overblown because the movies itself wasn't as awful as many have stated. And damn did it have a somber  ending.  If Look up was a warning, Digger is the acceptance that we've gotten to a point of no return.

New neighbors recently moved into the apartment above mine, and are a lot louder than the previous neighbor. On Sunday night they were loudly playing their TV to the point where I could here it even in my bedroom. I tried to be polite and ask them to turn it down, but the guy who answered the door was a complete jackass and tried to play it off like I was overreacting. They ended up playing it all the way past 5 or 6 in the morning, and I barely got any sleep at all. I even took a couple hours of PTO on Monday because I couldn't really focus.

Thankfully, when I reported it to the leasing office, they immediately took it seriously (the woman I spoke to straight up said it was a leasing violation). Ever since, they've been a lot more quiet. But it was a really shitty way to start the week, and I'm afraid they're going to start doing it again after a few days have passed. So, I've been extraordinarily anxious throughout the entire week.

I know it probably sounds like I'm being dramatic, but knowing that asshole lives right above me doesn't exactly give me piece of mind. I'm not exactly the kind of person who handles this sort of thing well. I just tend to overthink these things and make myself a nervous wreck. At the very least, the woman at the leasing office said to contact them again if the problem persists, and there's a courtesy officer I can call to file a noise complaint, if nothing else. So I have options if they try to pull that shit again. Still pisses me off, though.

Sorry for the rambling. I don't normally make comments about this sort of thing, but I really needed to get this off my chest. I don't really have too many other places to vent about this.

Thankfully my week hasn't been entirely dogshit. I made a nice beef-and-mushroom stew that I've been eating the past couple of days. I've also been playing more of Ace Combat 8, which has been absolutely fantastic. So, there's been some good things happening, at least.

And we've wrapped the summer anime season with You and I Are Polar Opposites season 2.
I thought it was even better than the first season. Whereas the original was primarily romance with a generous serving of slice of life, the sequel is equal parts romance and coming of age, and a significant part of the plot is devoted to the characters planning and worrying about their future. Also we're up to 3 couples now. All of those threads are done well and woven together seamlessly into a cute, hilarious, and often emotional treat.

As for the fall season, for the first time since I started watching anime regularly, I'm actually not planning on picking up any new series, only sequels: Chitose 2, Edgerunners 2, Ramparts of Ice 2, Apothecary Diaries 3, and Steel Ball Run. That's not a bad thing, mind you, since I'm gonna have more time to work through my backlog.

Speaking of backlog, I recently watched all the Prisma Illya anime in preparation for the finale next year. They're pretty much as people say - heavy on fan service, but also surprisingly well done once they get serious. I've usually heard Vow in the Snow named as the best entry, but my favorites were Zwei followed by Licht.
It's definitely one of the least Fate-feeling corners of the franchise, but that lets it explore some new angles e.g. the fights are more dynamic and grounded, and less reliant on big flashy attacks. It also has my favorite rendition of the Emiya theme, and some surprisingly impressive bits of voice acting (shout out to Rie Kugimiya as Beatrice).

I'm finally going to a convention (Tsubasacon) some of my friends have tried to get me to go to for... about 15 years now? I've tried to go for the last five but every time I either ran out of paid time off or some big emergency hit. Can't go the full weekend but I don't think there's anything past today I'm terribly interested in. Might go see Sean Chiplock and get something signed.

I beat Control Resonant. I liked it very much. The combat IS very simple and I do find it annoying that i cant weapon swap outside of the menu, but I feel like some of that might be concessions to the game's engine because WOW there's a lot of particles and shiny/flashing shit a good chunk of the time. I found it weird people compared the game to Prototype considering that game's combat had a lot going for it, but that game also was like three or four colors and wasnt running a shit load of effects like Northlight engine is doing.

I think the game kinda suffers from the same sort of problem that the Batman Arkham games had, in that more people loved Asylum because it was a contained metroidvania type game than they did City because of its more open nature (that and City having too many damn trophies), so you encounter story progression beats differently than you would a more "linear"-ish way a metroidvania does.

Game's def in my top 5 for the year.

I finally cleared whatever I got sick with when I saw the gorillaz in late September. I went to a haunted hayride with my friend and family, Bates Motel. It was a lot of fun.

This week I got Rune Factory on Prime day and have been playing that and Kingdom Hearts 1-3 since I never played 3, 2.8, DDD or RE:mind and have been enjoying it.

I really wanted to try Gears E-Day but my Xbox died in September. Power supply is the most likely culprit.

My cousin moved his wedding up a few months and now I have like no time to try and lose weight so that sucks but I'm happy for them

Not a bad week. I have been helping my sister move out which is bittersweet but it's been fine otherwise

Work has been stressing me out lately. I took last Thursday and Friday off and spent those two days on the phone solving work problems which made me more stressed out than before that weekend. It doesn't help that I spend hours at work by myself with no one to interact with.

Progress on my game is going pretty well but the state of the video game industry isn't very encouraging. Also deciding what features to include and not include and what counts as scope creep is way harder than I expected, but I guess that what game development is.

u/Lucky-Icarus 6d ago

Got nothing to talk about other than I kinda fucking love Xenoblade Chronicles X. Like, it's pretty scuffed, the gameplay, imo, is a bit ass, their are too many party members on the account that none of them matter beyond like 4 and they don't get much characterization besides like Mia, the random side quests character you get really late into the game that you run into every other chapter(which would endear you to her and made her feel like an actual character), and the gameplay is pretty ass. But the world you explore is so damn cool, the designs and aesthetic is fucking top tier, and you get fucking MECHS THAT ARE ALSO TRANSFORMERS! THAT'S SO FUCKING COOL.

The game REALLY makes me miss Phantasy Star. Like there's one really old phantasy star game I played on like the psp or something where you got to create a character from 3 different races(it was human, elves, and like the robot race Casts I think). And every second I played XCX, I kept thinking back about that game that I can't even remember much of(I know the opening song says the words "Phantasy Star universe").

Man, I want a Xenoblade X 2 or atleast a game like it that I could create a character and that had better gameplay.

I ended up going to my university program's orientation, but since it was optional I only went on Monday because the commute there was genuinely a nightmare. I'd say it took me almost 2 hours just to arrive and I was fairly late to the session by train. The good news is I'm officially signed up for all my classes now and I definitely will manage going 3-4 days a week (with Friday being part of the weekend, which is not too bad I think). That said, I know I absolutely have to take a different mode of transport to get there. Because while I don't like an hour bus ride compared to a train ride, at least the bus will arrive generally on schedule and unlike the train delays will not totally upend/ruin your day.

Considering I had just this week left till university officially starts, I went a little crazy and decided to marathon Ace Combat 8 since my last time posting here. After reflecting on it, I think this may be my favorite entry besides Project Wingman (which although not an official game, is pretty adjacent to the series so like many I think it may as well be a game in the series). Compelling characters, an excellent OST, and some fairly challenging missions on Veteran all lead me to fucking love the campaign at least. Considering trying to S rank some of the harder missions next as a personal challenge.

I've also been considering playing the multiplayer too. Does anyone know exactly how playable the state of that is? Will I have to get a battle pass or other shenanigans to enjoy time with it? Hoping it's fairly straightforward, but I've heard mixed things about it.

Lastly, picked up Crusader Kings III as a final thing from the autumn sale! Probably should start hitting the backlog after AC8 MP possibly/reading Umineko.

I'm placing FE:FW on hold, Part 3 looks like a box of needles. I might replay Dora and Cai, Part 1 and 2 are fun for me.

I'm starting to try switch modding, I've only modded a copy of FE Engage, but my switch is an easy to mod version...

I'm also back to my pre Fortunes Weave gaming routine. EU4 mod: Post Finem, some Anbennar MT testing, and FTL Multiverse.

Hope ya'll are doing well!

I've been playing through Fortune's Weave. Picked Cai first primarily because unfortunately I can relate to wanting to save your father from death. Last night I beat Leda and immediately after I'm told that Castor (Cai's dad) is dying from a seemingly terminal illness that he's kept hidden from his son

Starting to hit a little too close to home

u/CaptainJudaism It's Fiiiiiiiine. 6d ago

So after 800 hours, most of them dying in Act 2 or early Act 3 due to losing steam, and one final Balder's Gate 3 run modded to hell and back on Tactician... I can finally say I've done everything I've wanted in the game and can put it down for good. Still really, really enjoyed my time with it. I'd been meaning to actually sit down and finish it ever since my first win on balanced way back when it first released, restarting a billion times, then stopping so it actually kinda felt good to finish it off in this way.

Now I've moved onto a game called Active Matter which is a PVPVE FPS extraction shooter with Anomaly/STALKER elements. I'm a PvE only player and this is so close to being a perfectly "me" coded game that I hope to see them lean more heavily into the PvE side with stuff like new anomalies, modifiers, monsters you fight, improved enemy soldier AI, etc. 'cause the loop of jump into a solo raid -> loot stuff -> fight off malevolent bushes -> do specific objectives is quite addicting, especially since the missions tend to ask you to finish them in specific ways to change up the gameplay like driving cars to delivery them, hitting enemies with cars, running up the side of a building to take scenic shots, or find documents in the heart of an enemy nest and get out can be quite exhilarating. I have no intention on doing the PVP side but I do like how the best gear/loot is found in the PVP raids but can still show up in PVE just at a much lower rate. Just hate how some maps are PVP only so I'll never see them.

I desperately need the Chicago White Sox to win this Saturday. They're empowered by the Pope and it would be so funny to see this scrappy young team to make it this far in the MLB postseason after 3 record-breaking god awful seasons.

Words cannot describe how much I fucking hate the smell of engine coolant. The coolant intake of my car went out AGAIN and I had to replace it. Fortunately, I had bought a metal one when I replaced it the first time, but man is it not fun seeing plumes of white smoke coming out of your hood even if you know it's just coolant hitting your hot engine. Also had to skip out on seeing Ninja Scroll in theaters because of that. FUCK AMERICA'S CAR DEPENDANT INFRASTRUCTURE!
