Powerhouse Pokémon are the official classification for any Pokémon that has a base stat total of 600 and are what the fanbase used to refer to as pseudo legendaries like Dragonite and Metagross. In Generation 9, Duraludon broke the previous trend of these Pokémon being exclusively brand new three stage lines by getting a cross gen evolution with Archaludon that gave it a base stat total of 600, making it a pseudo legendary by technicality even though it doesn’t follow every rule set by the first eight generations.
I thought it could be an interesting thought experiment to come up with one Pokémon from each generation that I think is deserving of getting a cross-gen evolution that would give it a BST of 600, and I specifically chose Pokemon that haven’t gotten a mega evolution or Gigantamax form in the past, although one of them did already get a regional form but I still think it’s the best candidate from that particular region so I went with it anyway.
However, since Gen 8 was already represented with Archaludon I instead decided to go down to picking only 8 Pokémon from Gens 1-7 plus Generation 9, only to decide that a pair of Pokémon from Gen 1 were equally fitting of getting a new powerhouse evolution, bringing the total back up to 9. I’ve come up with new type combinations and abilities for some of these Pokémon, but for others I only changed their stat spreads. I initially wanted to come up with a new name for each evolution, but struggled with some of them so in the end I just decided that I’ll be giving a brief explanation for why I chose each Pokémon at the end of each section.
Without further ado, here are my picks for which Pokémon from each generation would be most deserving of getting a cross gen powerhouse evolution:
____________________________________________________________________________________
Gen 1: Omastar
Type: Water/Steel
Abilities: Swift Swim/Shell Armor/Filter
HP: 100 (+30)
Attack: 90 (+30)
Defense: 135 (+10)
Sp. Attack: 135 (+20)
Sp. Defense: 100 (+30)
Speed: 40 (-15)
The other gen 1 fossil Pokemon often get overshadowed by Aerodactyl, who got a mega evolution back in Gen 6 while Omastar and Kabutops still got nothing even after Legends Z-A, so I thought they were both the most deserving of getting the powerhouse treatment in the future, as they would get an extra +5 over Aerodactyl since they each only have 495 as their base stat totals without taking into account any potential subtractions from certain stats.
For Omastar, I decided that I wanted it to be the slower, more tankier one out of the two, hence why Filter replaced Weak Armor as its hidden ability and why I replaced its rock type with steel. However, to balance its increased defenses I subtracted 15 from its speed so that it wouldn’t be able to use Swift Swim quite as effectively without needing to use shell smash or other methods to increase its speed first, potentially putting it in danger of taking extra damage.

Gen 1: Kabutops
Type: Water/Bug
Abilities: Swift Swim/Battle Armor/Sharpness
HP: 90 (+30)
Attack: 135 (+20)
Defense: 115 (+10)
Sp. Attack: 90 (+30)
Sp. Defense: 100 (+30)
Speed: 65 (-15)
While Kabutops still got a subtraction of 15 in its speed it still would be able to make decent use of Swift Swim, and if not Sharpness would be an incredible ability coming off of its new base 135 in attack, being able to use STAB moves like X-Scissor and Razor Shell more effectively along with a bit of extra bulk making it a more well rounded Pokémon all around.

Gen 2: Lanturn
Type: Water/Electric
Abilities: Volt Absorb/Lightning Rod/Water Absorb
HP: 145 (+20)
Attack: 68 (+10)
Defense: 98 (+40)
Sp. Attack: 96 (+20)
Sp. Defense: 116 (+40)
Speed: 77 (+10)
The name of the game with Lanturn here was to make it a bulkier Pokémon that’s designed to take in electric type attacks to boost its special attack to set up a potential sweep while still being able to take hits pretty well. To balance this out I gave it middling speed so that it’ll likely have to move second whether the opponent is naturally fast or uses Trick Room and 10 points in its useless attack stat to hold it back a bit from being too overpowered of a deep sea terror.

Gen 3: Tropius
Type: Grass/Dragon
Abilities: Chlorophyll/Solar Power/Harvest
HP: 129 (+30)
Attack: 78 (+10)
Defense: 113 (+30)
Sp. Attack: 92 (+20)
Sp. Defense: 117 (+30)
Speed: 71 (+20)
Tropius is arguably the most underrated pick here, but I could genuinely see it working as a powerhouse evolution if given the right design, since its a tropical dinosaur and all, which is also why I gave it the dragon type. I went for a more bulky stat spread to make up for its 4x weakness to ice, but on the plus side it can now take better advantage of Chlorophyll and Solar Power in the sun due to it no longer being weak to fire, which is also why its special attack and speed are better in practice than they look, and why I kept its abilities the same as in its base form.

Gen 4: Spiritomb
Type: Ghost/Dark
Abilities: Pressure/Infiltrator
HP: 75 (+25)
Attack: 107 (+15)
Defense: 138 (+30)
Sp. Attack: 107 (+15)
Sp. Defense: 138 (+30)
Speed: 35
Spiritomb seemed like the most fitting Pokémon of Gen 4 to get a powerhouse evolution due to how elusive it already is to catch, but I wasn’t exactly sure what the best way of handling it would be, as it might actually end up being a similar case to Porygon-2 now where Eviolite Spiritomb is better than its powerhouse evolution. I could’ve swapped its offenses and defenses to make it a strong mixed attacker, but that didn’t seem in line with Spiritomb’s base design so I ultimately went with a bulkier build that got a bit of added offenses but remained slow as to not be too overpowered, but this is ultimately the spread that I’m most unsure about.

Gen 5: Zoroark
Type: Dark/Fairy
Abilities: Illusion/Disguise\*
HP: 70 (+10)
Attack: 120 (+15)
Defense: 70 (+10)
Sp. Attack: 140 (+20)
Sp. Defense: 70 (+10)
Speed: 130 (+25)
Zoroark is the only pick in this post that already got an extra form with a regional form, but since those aren’t as final as mega evolutions I still think that adding a third stage on Zoroark wouldn’t feel so out of place. I decided to spread its stat increases somewhat equally throughout with a slight preference towards its offenses and speed so that it can now more effectively confuse the opponent with its coverage and illusion ability, which is made even more useful now with its dual fairy typing making it immune to dragon. It also now has Mimikyu’s signature ability as a hidden ability to make it potentially survive an extra hit if it doesn’t manage to knock out its opponent.

Gen 6: Gogoat
Type: Grass/Ground
Abilities: Sap Sipper/Grass Pelt
HP: 140 (+17)
Attack: 130 (+30)
Defense: 82 (+20)
Sp. Attack: 97
Sp. Defense: 101 (+20)
Speed: 50 (-18)
Kalos really didn’t have many options for powerhouse Pokémon with it adding the smallest amount of new Pokémon out of any region in the series, but Gogoat was included on Geeta’s team in Scarlet and Violet and had a major focus as transportation in Kalos so I feel like its iconic enough to warrant getting a new evolution over most other Kalos Pokémon. It got a mostly defensive upgrade, with its 82 defense being deceptive since Grass Pelt boosts it by 50%, and its incredible 130 attack stat can be further increased on switch in to a grass move via Sap Sipper, giving it better use of its abilities than its previous form at the cost of a slight hit to its speed.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Gen 7: Turtonator
Type: Fire/Dragon
Abilities: Anger Shell
HP: 90 (+30)
Attack: 88 (+10)
Defense: 165 (+30)
Sp. Attack: 106 (+15)
Sp. Defense: 115 (+30)
Speed: 36
Turtonator is another overlooked Pokémon that I feel deserves more time in the spotlight, and especially now that it missed out on an opportunity to get a mega evolution because of Drampa in Z-A it makes more sense than ever to give it another evolution to make it stand out over the other more iconic fire turtle in Torkoal. I gave it a lot of extra bulk, but it serves a dual purpose with its new ability Anger Shell replacing Shell Armor, previously exclusive to Klawf. This lowers the user’s defense stats upon going below half HP but boosts its offenses and speed, which could prove to be deadly alongside a Shell Smash allowing it to effectively boost its attack and speed stats by three stages in a single turn while not immediately taking the downsides of its lowered defenses since it’ll likely move after the opponent knocks its HP below half, making a previously underwhelming Pokémon a serious threat.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Gen 9: Cyclizar
Type: Steel/Dragon
Abilities: Full Metal Body/Regenerator
HP: 101 (+31)
Attack: 80 (-15)
Defense: 105 (+40)
Sp. Attack: 80 (-5)
Sp. Defense: 105 (+40)
Speed: 121
Cyclizar is easily the Pokémon that deserves a powerhouse evolution the most, as the two box art legendaries for Scarlet and Violet are literally paradox forms of Cyclizar, but Cyclizar itself is somewhat underwhelming in comparison to them. Giving it a powerhouse evolution that flips the script and gives it the classic Serperior build of high defenses and speed but relatively low attack would make it a Pokémon that’s very difficult to knock out, especially with its Regenerator ability allowing for it to heal HP upon switch out and its new base ability, Full Metal Body (previously exclusive to Solgaleo) making it completely immune to status moves, being a strict upgrade over Shed Skin. In the end, if any Pokémon deserves a powerhouse evolution and we strictly follow the precedent set by Archaludon, then I think that Cyclizar might be the most likely candidate to get one, even if I might prefer the gen 1 fossils or Zoroark to get one first personally.
