Is it just me or did that police officer take a comically long time to open that door?

He wasn't in the mood for a run, anyway. Ever.

Why is that trained officer holding his gun sideways like he's in a 1998 gasta rap video
26
u/Indiscriminate_Love 23h ago edited 23h ago
Seems like he was holding his gun for a canted one-hand grip and when he opened the door and when he stepped inside he didn't fix his grip for two hands.
Could also be that his fancy red dot on top wasn't turned on/difficult sight alignment under stress and he was instead using the 90° angle of the left side of his pistol to aim at super close quarters.
Could also be that he does indeed think it looks '1998 gangsta rap' badass. Hard to say, really.

u/Correct_Day_7791 18h ago
Yea not fixing it after entering and talking to the guy was very odd maybe he was shocked to find someone there idk people do dumb stuff sometimes

I think the door may have been locked from the inside and he had to twist a deadbolt?
Other than that not sure...
4
u/Personal-Dev-Kit 1d ago
Door is locked in a house that isn't yours.
Is it dead bolted or just on the handle, had the thief tried to get in and messed with it, adrenaline after seeing a dude run away and jump through a window.
Many options

Definitely holding his weapon comically. Not what they teach at any range I have been to.
14
u/Longjumping_College 1d ago
Third, cops don't have the right to shoot when not being threatened. Fuck this guy. You're not judge, jury, and executioner over some meth head stealing copper.

Clearing a house by yourself, is not normal.

Are those body cameras deliberately placed to obscure evidence when firing a shot? How would you determine if a killing was lawful or not when all you have is a video of a firearm?

I think I would rather be shot than cut to shreds jumping through a window.
26
u/3d1thF1nch 1d ago
Oh dude, 100%.
Two years ago, my 25 year old cousin, whom lives alone, was letting his dog out to go to the bathroom at night. He opened the storm door with his elbow, and the glass immediately broke, his elbow and arm went through, and he got SHREDDED. He was bleeding out so fast that he was barely conscious when he got ahold of 911 and then his mom before the ambulance arrived. He didn’t even remember calling either of them afterwards.
I thought he was bullshitting how bad it was (before I later saw him in a heavily bandaged sling), so his mom showed me the pictures. His house looked like a murder scene. Showed me the cut, and the glass sliced through some major veins, muscles, and ligaments in his elbow and arm…all from pushing open a glass door with his elbow. He was probably minutes from not being able to contact anyone. Scary stuff.
5
u/nonamesleft125478627 15h ago
That happened to me but it was my open hand that went through and the glass cut me on my wrist... in the bad spot.
2
u/Sh0wmey0urbutth0le 10h ago
This happened to a friend of mine. He was mad, punched the couch, fist bounced up and right through the window. Almost perfect straight line going from wrist to the middle of his arm.
Not a window or glasss but another time I knew a kid who just got this new, sharp knife. One friend was playing with it and this girl we were with said "touch it to my wrist". My friend said no, she called him a pussy, so he barely places it on her, and her wrist explodes open.

u/pichael289 19h ago
The actual physics do tend to support him here when he blasted though the window. Assuming he took most of it with him its not likely to be all that bad, and it looks like he shattered the entire thing. He's gonna be cut the hell up but it's not as bad as you think, not bullet bad. And it's largely due to his fuckin looney tunes as dive that obliterated the window and didn't leave any major shards to really hurt him. It's like how drunk drivers tend to accidentally survive things they shouldn't. He was so stupid it might have saved him. If this is a particularly fat cop or just one in Ohio then he might just be in the clear.
He could also be dead by the end of the video. Glass can be tricky. And worse then that is ceramic, a cracked toilet can kill you when it gives way, it's obsidian ass sharp.

u/Superb_Preference368 1d ago

In all fairness, it’s definitely some “operator” shit. But yes, he looks absolutely ridiculous here. He’s got a clear line of fire! It almost certainly made him less threatening to the other guy.
Regardless, it’s still true that soldiers will sometimes tilt their pistols in close quarters combat, and it’s a common rest position in live fire situations (which I think the cop is trying to emulate here if I’m being charitable 🤔).

Why do you show a short clip of the climax before showing the actual short clip? Why can’t you just show us a clip? Do we really need a preview of what 30 second clip we’re gonna watch? Let’s add some commentary while we’re at it. And how about a commercial break?
21
u/WeeklyBanEvasion 1d ago
That's been the latest trend to hook people into watching. We've somehow gone from an 8 second attention span to a 0.5 second attention span.
Soon we'll be seeing that shit in AI videos too
→ More replies (1)8
u/PixelBrewery 1d ago
Attention economy, people swipe away if they don't see the interesting part in the first 2 seconds
2
2
u/mercuriokazooie 19h ago
Because social media has fried the attention span of the average person. We've gone from 2 minute videos, to 30 second ones to 5 second ones to .01 second ones

At 0:56, there's a view out the window and you can see they're looking down on the parking lot. I don't know exactly what floor that would be, but it's high enough that the dude would have seriously hurt himself or even died if he actually leaped through the window.

Glazier here. Yea that shits dangerous as fuck. Worst injuries I saw was from windows. I had a coworker that was deglazing a window from a ladder outside of a house. He got the window out and it fell over the top of his head. It mainly got his ear from the top down. It was dangling off down by the lobe
2
u/InsufficientClone 1d ago
Also a glazier, job I hate most is mirrors, but I specialize in glass shower enclosure, so mostly deal with 3/4in tempered
→ More replies (1)2
u/Initial_Row_6400 1d ago
Yea my specialty was 3/8-1”, office enclosures, high end true frameless, 380 systems, return barn door showers. Did pressure stop and curtain wall for a while before that. Still the most dangerous shit is always annealed tho unless you get crushed by some heavy glass
Oh and god damn gym mirror systems. I could knock those out quick but Jesus they were annoying to deal with

One of the funniest but saddest videos I've ever seen was a cop wrestling with a suspect. The suspect was able to get up and get to his bike and gott away but the cop took about 5-7 buisness days to just get on his knees to catch his breath.

*run. “Ran” is the simple past tense. “Have run” is the perfect. You want “He could have run” or “He coulda run”.

u/Careful-Sell-9877 1d ago

The correct sentence is:
"The cop could of ranned after him shit"

Well.. its not just petty theft its breaking and entering.
Because this looks like a residence empty or not, itll likely be a felony.
Not that im a cop sympathizer but if youre walking into an area where the suspect may also be armed with a lethal you dont go in with non lethals.
→ More replies (33)36
u/Rampag169 1d ago
Also with no backup margins for shit to go sideways get way bigger.
4
u/McBonderson 1d ago
yeah, its my understanding usually you go non lethal when you have backup with lethal in case non lethal doesn't work. stun guns only work like 50% of the time.
28
u/Qorrin 1d ago
Petty theft is stealing a few things from a grocery store; breaking and entering a residence is way different and who knows if the dude has a weapon
→ More replies (26)7
u/QuirkBuggins 1d ago
An empty residence.
When I was a kid I went and explored an old (not locked) house no one had lived in for years. It had been a grow house and still had some of the soil pots and smashed equipment. Didn't occur to my teenage self that it would still be under active police surveillance.
They came ready for war. Thankfully I was able to get out of the house as they were arriving. Very glad that's not where my story ended.
The police are trained first and foremost to be desperately paranoid.

It's the states, man, the cops need their guns out for everything, because even the petty criminals have guns, in case they need to protect themselves from the psychotic cops with an authority hard on, the entire population is in a massive Mexican standoff with each other where the only real winners are the guys selling guns.

Well in the US the cops have to expect that everyone has a gun and might shoot at them first. Which is why I'm surprised cops don't have stronger opinions about gun "control" laws.

Why is he holding the pistol like he’s in a 1990s rap video?
3
u/HombreDelMar247 1d ago
Blocks the body cam so he can say something like "the subject was reaching for something that appeared like a gun so I opened fire".
Since cops in the US, especially states like this get all be edit of doubt, the internal investigation will find the shooting justified because the body cam was inconclusive.
5
u/cmincy 1d ago
Damn I've never seen someone open a door so slowly
2
u/wet-leg 1d ago
My guess would be trying to watch which way the suspect is going through the window while also trying to unlock an unfamiliar door without looking. More important to see which way the suspect runs so you can give other officers the direction, especially if you know you aren’t going to be able to keep up with them
