Discussion I miss how characters use to be

Post image
• Upvotes

Does anyone else kinda miss the way TFD was when it started? I still like the game it's currently my most played game. The only game that could've been close to the amount of hours I've put into this is probably For Honor. Although I won't lie it feels like it's lost it's "identity" in a sense. I'm mostly talking about characters and how their roles used to matter, but it feels like descendants are all just being made, or at least trying to be made into power houses.

When the game first dropped characters felt like they had rolls in team set ups like any other looter shooter:

- Lepics/,Viessa were elemental damage dealers you'd bring for specific encounters

-Ajax would be the teams defense when you needed protection to get a teammate up

-Yujin was the medic keeping members from going down in the first place, or getting people to faster than anyone else

-Enzo resupplied the teams ammo

-Gley was raw damage

Then there were more niche options that you'd experiment with to make a play style you'd prefer like:

-Kyle

-Blair

-Freyna

-Valby

While yeah Ajax, Yujin, Enzo can still do what they do it hardly feels like they have jobs because most mobs and bosses are getting atomized by 1-3 other people that are doing 1,000,000,000 and killing everything before they even walk in a room. Plus some of the descendants (excluding Viessa,Gley, and Valby) barely if at all keep up in this massive damage ecosystem. It used to feel like your character had something to do to offer to your team, or playing solo was you testing your own skills and understanding of your descendant. Now the devs either turn descendants into death incarnate, or they attempt to make them 1 person armies only to still not be able to keep up or at least not be as good in terms of damage with the ones that are (looking at the recent Freyna and every male descendant). I still like the game, and this isn't trying to be a "The game is dead", kind of post, but I kinda wish we weren't in this "everything needs to hit hard to be viable.

Nexon Suggestion Some character design ideas I submitted to Nexon

• Upvotes

Lately, I’ve been struggling to find motivation to play TFD. I’ve played through all the available content, and repeating the farming loop has become less engaging. Since I still have some free time on weekends, I spent part of it revising the character proposals I previously submitted to Nexon.

There are 11 Descendant concepts in this collection. This revision mainly focuses on wording, structure, and clearer explanations of mechanics, making the documents easier for developers, players, and AI tools to read and analyze.

I submitted other feedback quite a while ago but haven’t received a response, so I don’t know whether it has been read. The team may have other work priorities. Either way, I still wanted to share some ideas with the community because I still hope to see TFD become a more interesting game.

The proposals focus on gameplay. Here’s a brief overview of each concept:

Electric Network Support uses teammates as nodes: dashing to them for emergency support and Shield recovery, creating explosions around individual players, or conducting electricity along connections within the formation. Teammate positioning directly affects damage overlap. The kit also cycles through HP, MP, and Shield recovery, with the ability to revive multiple DBNO allies across the Party/Squad.

Electric Whip uses an electrical whip for melee attacks, counters, grouping, and binding enemies. Playstyles range from teleport-based engagement with escalating MP costs to placing nodes that form 2D zones or 3D volumes. The network kit lets players maintain their setup for sustained damage and buffs, or detonate it for burst.

Figure Skater brings momentum-based skating into combat: speed affects turning radius, wall contact creates opportunities to redirect movement, and height changes attack coverage and hit density. Other kits let players push ice pillars into domino collisions or build node networks into physical obstacles that block enemy routes before being detonated.

Fire–Chill Thermal Transfer uses Fire attacks to generate Chill Energy and vice versa. Phase Shift consumes all stored Energy to switch Attribute, restore MP, and activate Overdrive. Players can shift early to sustain combat or fill the gauge for the strongest mobile AoE state; Energy cannot be generated during Overdrive.

Fire Tank generates Rage by taking hits, uses it to increase DEF, and spends it on damage, recovery, and protection. Powerful skills therefore compete directly with his current defensive state. Giant Meteor creates an object with its own HP that confines enemies within its footprint and amplifies the caster’s Skill Damage against them. If destroyed before completion, it loses its finishing impact.

Fungal Colony Biologist uses a fungal colony to deploy fields, control enemies, and apply gradually increasing DEF reduction that the entire team can exploit. Specialized kits can trace a closed loop through movement to trigger burst damage inside it, leave a substitute body to absorb attacks for a conditional counter-burst, or transform into a biomass body with its own HP pool and skill set.

Heavy Carrier lets two players divide movement and offense between them. A mounted teammate gains Skill Power amplification and Incoming Damage Reduction while retaining independent aiming, shooting, and skill casting; the carrier controls navigation and combat positioning. Kits range from a ground escort tank to a solo gunship or a flying platform carrying another player.

Heavy Shield Engineer makes the shield a defensive layer, a spendable resource, and an object whose position must be managed. Throwing it temporarily locks Shield; spending Shield to empower the throw and then retrieving it personally opens a burst-buff window. Other kits transfer Shield to protect a teammate, deploy a turret using ammunition reserves, or reconstruct the shield into a melee weapon sustained by Shield consumption.

Neurotoxin Scientist builds Exposure through Neurofog, then uses Catalyst to convert accumulated stacks into damage, CC, or identification disruption that makes enemies attack one another. A separate kit deploys a combat specimen that can operate through AI or be mounted for direct control. Blood collected from defeated enemies is processed into syringes that heal and accelerate the specimen.

Void Cloner spends HP to create Clones that continuously deal AoE damage. Players can preserve the swarm for sustained pressure, consume Clones through launch and detonation attacks, or reabsorb their remaining HP for recovery. Parallel Domain creates a separate combat space where the team attacks enemy copies, stores damage, and transfers it to the originals when the Domain ends.

Wind Controller maintains vortices that can absorb and lock an external Attribute while retaining a Non-Attribute build foundation. Players using the same Descendant can help maintain vortices and merge Superstorms to increase damage, range, and duration. Mixed-Attribute teams, meanwhile, provide more convenient sources for activating Diffusion.

Despite having plenty of character ideas, I still wonder how much they would matter if game modes don’t develop alongside them. If the objectives, gameplay loops, and situations we face stay the same, a new kit might be exciting for a while before we return to the same farming routine. I’d like more modes with different objectives and mechanics, where build choices and teamwork have opportunities to matter.

I’ve linked the full documents below for anyone interested in reading and commenting. I’d like to hear which concepts you would want to try, which mechanics seem problematic, and what kinds of game modes could make these kits interesting to play.

Discussion Freyna is better, but still sucks major cheeks for endgame

• Upvotes

I was trying some of her trans mods with the new trigger module (double gold) in trials and the results just weren't good. With good buffs, I could get an 18min run. Most runs took over 20min. She absolutely needs all the good buffs she can get to pull off a time some characters can get with bad RNG.

Toxic Misture seems to be one of her worst mods. It just doesn't have enough AoE and DoTs to deal with crowds.

Toxic Stimulation, Venon Synthesis and no trans mods essentially play the same. Nothing exceptional about them.

Contagion is your go to for low level content, if you're trying to clear a daily quickly.

Neurotoxin Synthesis was the best one I tried, however it needs some QoL. You can mark enemies with 3 and then kill them with 4 for some AoE shenanigans. It deals good AoE damage and was the only mod that managed to kill enemies in some rooms so quickly that the FPS dropped until all 300 enemies were pulverized in less than 6 seconds.

The problem: You're constantly shooting your 4, which slows down your movement to a crawl and makes you a sitting duck for melee and ranged enemies. Her 4 absolutely needs a much higher movement speed or, at the very least, knockdown/knockback immunity.

You might say "just use her 1 to push enemies away", but that isn't smart. Her trigger module has a long cooldown and you don't wanna waste the effect and put it on cooldown just to push trash mobs away. You need her 4 up as often and quickly as possible with this trans module.

Another problem I noticed, but needs more testing, is that the DoT seems to be able to steal marked kills from her 4. As in, I'm shooting a marked enemy, they die, but they don't spawn the Decay Fragments, which I can only assume is caused by something stealing my marked kill (could be a trial buff or a DoT, or both).

I haven't tried Venom Injection, so I look forward to any post describing the experience with it.

Freyna's rework was a letdown to me. I just don't see myself using her even for fun in her current state. Unless devs do a quick round number buffs, I'm only dusting her off for tech/toxic kill dailies.

There's just a level of bad that it's hard to have fun with, imo.

I just got the this drop with a good roll and substats so I wanted to test it out on gley. This is with no catalysts and this was easily the best I ever felt using weapons in Trials.

Still want to test it on the Ship and a couple of other places but man this gun just feels really good.

Might even be the best thing about this patch LOL

Nexon Suggestion Guns should not be stat-sticks. That's what external components are for

Guns should not change anything about a player's skill damage or skill crit rate. And they shouldn't have cores that change a player's speed.

Guns should just shoot and have interesting effects on the enemy, like tow or stun.

We have hundreds of external component sets, and 90% of them are unused because they don't increase damage. I think external components would be more interesting if speed and skill damage buffs where were only available from them, instead of gun stat-sticks.

I also hate the idea that I have to hold a rocket launcher to make Freyna's skills do more damage. It just looks stupid.

Nexon Suggestion A low-dev fix for Gley's Explosive life

For those of you not aware, Gley's balance changes to Explosive life is a bit of a joke. Both her damage skills (her 2 and her 4) require you to get kills first to use them. Which means you have to kills enemies without skills, before you can start using her skills. Derp.

I think this can be easily solved with relatively low development effort. By low dev effort, I mean no new complicated skill mechanic changes, visual effects, or animations needed.

My proposal:

  • Frenzied state (her 1) passively generates custom resource over time while active. This skill drains life so it makes perfect sense for it to give custom resources in return
  • OR/AND
  • Extra sensory (her 3) gives her X amount of custom resource when cast, or over time for its duration. All the other custom resource Descendants just get their resource for free by casting a skill, so I don't see how this could be a balance issue.

This would immediately fix her problem, and means that you can always use your skills, even before you've killed enemies. It also makes her skillset actually work VS elite enmies/bosses.

An additional change that would round off her kit well:

  • Critical hits on enemies with her 4 has a chance to spawn a life orb next to the enemy

This additional change would make her viable against strong single targets, because you can reliable cast her 2 every now and again without killing enemies.

Bam! Just like that, with relatively simple changes, this build actually works as a full skil build.

Seriously, our girl deserves better. This half-baked "buff" is a joke and just makes me want to put Gley back on the reserve bench until they inevitably need to buff her (and everyone else) in 3 months due to the shocking powercreep this game has.

Nexon Suggestion a lot of people waited for Freyna's rework just to find out that she's still mid. what a shame.

i was so excited for freyna's rework, i thought it's going to be like blair's rework, strong damage, cool new red mods, and new ability rework, but it wasn't any of that, because freyna still struggling to keep up with the other strong descendants.

there's a lot to talk about, but the 3 main things that's annoyed me is

  • her damage is still weak even with 3x gold, 1- AM.
  • she's scales from MP
  • one of her builds are dimension!

like... why???

we waited months and months just for nothing.

Nexon Suggestion Neon colors would be cool

So using the eastern mythic gley skin I ran into a visual glitch caused by the tunnel leading into the main area and it made several parts of the skin glow green i was thinking it looks really cool but wish I had control of what was neon and the color we already have things like shiny metal and matte colors and a few other textures so why not for example neon clear red and it actually glows

Discussion Ultimate Hailey’s material farm is the worst I’ve seen in a video game to date!

As the title says, it’s absolutely ridiculous! I play same mission over and over and over and over again for an hour or two, get only a fraction of what I need to fucking build this fucking Descendant, then get bored and think it’s not even worth it anymore. Which it isn’t!

It would make sense if the materials given per mission was a reasonable amount, so 100 per part wouldn’t be THAT bad. But the amount you get is fucking ridiculous! 4-15? Are you fucking high? I’m sitting here with all her parts farmed and did 20 plus Cradle of Evolution and sitting at around 170 fucking Phase Crystals! The Raven farm was similar but it wasn’t that bad since you got bout 100 from the Main Quest. Where’s that for Hailey? Also JUST ONE MISSION! WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?

NEXON! IT’S NOT THAT FUCKING DEEP!!

MAKE THE ULTIMATE DESCENDANTS CHEAPER ON THE MARKET AND I’LL JUST FUCKING BUY THE NEXT ONE WITH MONEY! I’LL AT LEAST GET TO FUCKING PLAY THE FUCKING GAME WITH SAID DESCENDANTS THAT WAY!

I can’t with this game anymore man!

Discussion Old player returning fairly newish, question

I played this game for a decent short time when it was first released. Started again this past week.

I'm currently running the ultimate bunny.

She is OP AF. And starting to learn how to use her better and starting to see better now.

My question is, what would be the proper etiquette or polite thing to do during missions and bosses and such so I don't kill the vibe for everyone else

Discussion About the Freyna rework...

Freyna had a move where she shot the enemy, projectiles bounced off and hit other enemies, rense and repeat.

I know her room 0 stuff would get a similar effect where if the enemy is nearby they'll explode. But this new effect was more specific to the rework, which transcend module gets me effect?

Nexon Suggestion Enzo Update Is Better but he Needs More Buffs

I played a bit with Enzo today. He feels better, but still feels a bit clunky for most of his builds. I like the halving of the number of rounds that he needs to fire, but the bigger issue is still needing to swap and fire 2+ weapons. That is just way too much ramp up.

All of his builds should require only 1 prep effect.

Focus Fire is the only transcendent module that they made only require one prep effect and it is a skill based build.

With how easy Raven is to play and given how easy it is for Valby, Viessa, Gley, and Ajax are to build as Gun Descendant, I don't know why they are making Enzo have so much ramp up time to build his power up. He should be the best at this next to Gley.

I tried him on the Extreme Colossi and he doesn't compare to Hailey or a Raven. He can help others do more damage though using Supply Firearm Enhancer. The most damage I did was him using the new Transcendent sniper, but that boss has so much weapon resistance.

He can do really good in the Axion Plains Infiltrations. If you're playing with a mid tier group, he can dominate, but all it takes is one good Raven or Ines and he won't have a chance to setup since you have to rotate through multiple weapons which requires you to aim and shoot for a bit which means Raven is already onto the next room and your firearm buff duration is running out while you are biking around.

There's frustratingly little on them when it comes to deep lore.

But hopefully what i made can give everyone a real look into how they operate 🙏
