Experience Stopped taking fish oil supplements and feel much better

Just a PSA to anyone taking fish oil supplements. I read a post a while ago about someone feeling like crap from fish oil supplements. I was curious about my own experience with it as I’ve been taking a fish oil supplement daily for easily 5+ years now.

I stopped taking it around 2 weeks ago now and I’ve noticed my brain fog has lifted significantly and I feel less fatigued. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with this?

General Question functional foods vs supplements: does form actually matter?

• Upvotes

functional foods are basically foods that give you extra benefits beyond normal nutrition. think everyday stuff with added vitamins, or naturally healthy foods like berries and nuts.

lately i've seen a lot of products mixing food and supplements together. eating a snack with creatine instead of mixing powder into water sounds way easier. but besides convenience, you still have to think about things like how much of the ingredient you're actually getting, what else is added to it, and how well it works.

for anyone using both, what else do you check before deciding if a product is worth buying?

General Question California Gold Nutrition no longer labels the expiration date on their supplements?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

My first time ordering from California Gold Nutrition. Both supplements don’t list the expiration date. They only have the LOT and the MFG at the bottom (pic 2). All I care about is knowing the expiration date of the supplements I bought but they are not listening it anywhere on the bottles. How do I know the expiration date? And why are they making life harder for their consumers?

If anyone knows how to figure out the expiration date please let me know. My first and last time ordering from this company.

Recommendations Is 2x 6g L-Citrulline too much for general Nitric Oxide-support?

I've researched L-Citrulline-dosages a lot, but I'm still not sure at all what would be the best approach.

For general health purposes I figured out that taking L-Citrulline 2 times a day is the most convenient and more supportive than just taking it 1 time a day.

But the dosage is another story. When I asked Google AI how much Citrulline a healthy body makes itself, when you get almost 0 from the diet/supplements, it says it's just 1.5 grams. Then you would say 1.5 grams would be enough to saturate this nitric oxide-pathway.

But in all kind of studies they use 6 grams a lot, and then mainly for the "Pump" in sports, not general health purposes, and the results are less when they took like 3 grams. But if you took 3 grams 2 times a day would that be enough to get maximum general health benefits? Studies also don't really say what benefits you get from taking way more than 6 grams a day.

What's y'all opinion and thinking about L-Citrulline dosing? What y'all do yourself?

edit: And how you prevent stomach upset? Certain dosage levels you can't tolerate on an empty stomach and with a preworkout snack/meal? How do you manage the potential lower blood pressure/racing heart when taking higher amounts of L-Citrulline?

Something to heal and calm my stomach

I am constantly bloated. I think it’s both stress but maybe food. Maybe SIBO. I am vegan. I try not to stress but I have so much anxiety all the time. Have GAD ( general anxiety disorder)
Sometimes I feel that my belly is somehow active when I try to sleep. Then I have both anxiety and an upset stomach and can’t sleep. I have stopped taking nettles, wheat grass and chaga which I took before.
I have just started using enzymes before dinner and simeticone. Cant say I notice any difference tbh. I hate looking pregnant. Have had anorexia so looking big also causes anxiety…I have had low ferritin, but stopped taking supplement now to calm the belly. I didn’t experience many side effects from iron though as other people tells. I feel like I need something to calm the belly down. I do breathing techniques but it’s hard. The only thing that reduces anxiety is excersise. Any advice? I am lost.
What I take now: betaglucans, omega3 daily
A few times a week: d, mg, b complex , low dose c, probiotics.
Plan to try ajwain seeds and fennel.
Thinking of starting taking creatine for energy, but it’s maybe not tve right time? It can upset the stomach

Tylenol alternatives

• Upvotes

I’ve been talking 3,900mg a day of Tylenol for 10 years, apparently that’s a really bad idea lol so I’ve knocked it down to 1,200, and ultimately will quit completely. I’m old af and my whole body hurts, I still lift hard 3x a week and apparently I don’t recover well without it. What’s a good alternative or 3 I can try? K thanks

Rho Nutrition's Scam - Bottles Don't Have 30 Servings In Them

• Upvotes

Rho Nutrition’s Tongkat Ali Label Says 30 Servings, My Bottles Lasted 15 and 20 Days

I bought three bottles of Rho Nutrition’s Liposomal Tongkat Ali. The label says the serving size is “Just Over One Teaspoon” and lists 30 servings per bottle. This is about a month at one serving per day.

I read the label before using it. For the first bottle, I used a teaspoon and let it overflow slightly, since the serving is described as just over a teaspoon. That bottle lasted about 15 days.

For the second bottle, I measured more carefully: one level teaspoon, not "just over," which is about 4.9 mL. That bottle lasted about 20 days, still well short of the 30 servings claimed, even though I was using less than the 6 mL serving the company says is recommended.

I contacted the company, and they replied that the serving is 6 mL, “slightly more than one teaspoon,” and suggested I may have used a little too much. As if I can't use a measuring spoon properly. Even at exactly one teaspoon, or 4.9 mL, it didn't get close to 30 days / 30 servings the label claims.

This is fraud. I wonder if their paid endorsers like Gabrielle Reece and Laird Hamilton realize the problems this company is having. It's going to hit their reputations at some point too.

This is the Ageimmune B+ Complex contents. I’m new to supplements and was thinking of purchasing this product for slightly low vitamin D and B12 levels. Has anyone tried this product? And if not, do these vitamin forms seem like good choices?

How do Nature's Bounty and Webber Naturals hold up next to brands like Thorne, Metagenics and Pure Encapsulations?

• Upvotes

I can't remember where I saw this but somewhere, sometime ago I saw a list of supplements brand ranked according to their quality and purity, brands like Thorne, Metagenics and Pure Encapsulations were among the best. However, I can't remember where more affordable brands like Nature's Bounty and Webber Naturals sat. Does anyone know much about how the quality of these brands hold up next to the top of the line companies?

I bought Magnesium glycinate, Berberine and Zinc from Costco a while back that were from NB and WB, but I buy other stuff from Thorne etc., so just wondering.

L-citrulline is make my eyes feel funny. Is that normal?

• Upvotes

Not sure how to describe the feeling. It's kind of like making my eyes feel full? Also I just noticed some really bad bags under my eyes even though I thought I slept good last night.

I think it's also affecting my breathing? But I think that's helping? It's like I'm taking deeper and full of breaths than before.

Taking two pills in the morning for the past couple of days.

Primarily taken it cuz I thought it might help with sexual health, but also I suspect that I might have some general blood flow issues throughout my body. I thought this could be beneficial all over.

Is the eye problem common? Would it go away as my body gets used to it? Or is this something I should be concerned about?

Partial servings of probiotic?

I'm trying probiotics for possible histamine intolerance and overall better gut health. I've had some instances where I felt unwell after taking one, but I've read that some people empty a small amount out of the capsule to take a smaller dose to start with and gradually increase. I'm trying this now with some success, but I'm throwing out the rest of the capsule. I thought the rest wouldn't be OK to take later after opening the capsule. This is a huge waste and I'm wondering if I can take the rest of the capsule later or the next day. If so, how would I store it? Does anyone do this? Do the probiotics start going bad once out of the capsule?

General Question Does magnesium bisglycinate make you sleepy the next morning?

I take around 200mg of elemental magnesium in the form of magnesium bisglycinate. I sleep for 7 or 8 hours, apparently my REM and deep sleep are in range, but I always wake up tired, brain fogged... It improves a little throughout the day...

Does anyone have the same experience with magnesium bisglycinate or glycinate?

Recommendations Collagen supplements and homemade bone broth: what worked for me

Hi! For the last few days I read many questions here about collagen, if it’s really working and doing anything at all. So i decided to write this post and share my own experience.

I started taking collagen supplements after 40, because my skin began to change, all those big pores, more wrinkles, tired look and everything. But it took me almost a year to choose the right collagen for me. I started with bovine collagen in caps, but somehow it gave me problems with my stomach. Then I tried fish collagen in powder, no side effects at all, but the taste was awful, I couldn’t force myself to buy another bottle the next month. So I decided to make my own homemade bone broth. I tried to make it from chicken, and it was really good, sometimes it even set into a jelly consistence in my fridge and was so tasty. But after 2-3 weeks I was so full of it that I couldn’t even see it, not cook or eat any more. Then I tried different collagen powder tastes, but they all seemed too artificial for me, and I still felt this fish taste. And finally I fond the one from nutraharmony. It’s not only fish, bovine and chicken also, and it’s in capsules, so no more fish taste. And no side effects for my stomach. Now I see changes not only for my skin, but also joints - they do feel more flexible.

BUT what’s also important, don’t expect some noticeable changes from the first pills of collagen supplements or first bowls of bone broth. Collagen needs time to work, like a lot of time, 3, 4, 6 months, all about individual needs. So be preparred to take it for months without noticing huge changes, the most important here is - don’t give up. But the final results still may vary for different people.

Hope this will help somebody to reach their goals! If you have questions, please ask.

Fulvic acjd

Fulvic acid heavy metal detox

Hey guys,

I’m looking into fulvic and humic acids for potential intracellular heavy metal detoxification.
I’ve heard that I might also need an extracellular binder to help bind and eliminate mobilized metals.

For those experienced with fulvic/humic acids, is combining them with an extracellular binder necessary?

If so, which natural binders would you recommend?

I’m personally not a fan of synthetic binders or chelators.
Any tips or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!
