MODERATOR POST | منشورة إدارية Call for r/Sudan moderators
Salaam everyone,
As you well know, our sub has grown quite a bit in the last several years. We recently reached the 34K mark and our members are remarkably diverse in terms of age, country of residence, and interests. Undoubtedly, the ongoing war has dominated the topics of discussion but it's no surprise given how much it has impacted all of us.
With this growth, we now have a much broader range of perspectives and worldviews. We have had many healthy discussions but sometimes they can get quite heated. Our mod team has been working hard to ensure that the discourse here is within the bounds of civility and mutual respect, and that the topics are relevant to Sudan and the Sudanese people, regardless of where they are.
But with this growth, the burden of moderating the sub has become overwhelming for our team, who are all volunteers with real-life responsibilities and grappling with the effects of the war. So on behalf of the team, I wanted to invite those who interested in serving as mods to nominate themselves to join the mod team.
We are looking for 2-3 mods who meet these criteria:
- At least 1 year active on Reddit and r/Sudan to ensure that they are familiar with the sub rules and culture, and the rules of Reddit at large (Reddiquette).
- High quality contributions and engagement.
- Adherence to the sub rules, particularly the rules about civility and mutual respect, and no bigotry and discrimination.
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic is important given that this is a bilingual sub.
Mods are expected engage regularly with the Mod Queue (e.g., approve posts, remove spam, respond to mod reports, etc.); be fair and transparent with our users; and continue to contribute to the sub as much as they're able to. We welcome candidates who are able to inject fresh ideas and initiatives to meet the evolving needs of our growing community.
If you are interested, please DM the Mod Team to express your interest and provide a brief bio about yourself (you do not need to break your anonymity). Use this thread if you have any questions about serving as a moderator or the process.
Does anyone else regret the revolution?
Ever since it happened, we, the youth, have been paying in blood.
The youth who died in the protests leading up to the "revolution"
The qiyada massacre..
The civil war..
The hundreds of youth who were recently killed by Egyptian planes..
Meanwhile the civilian politicians, the army, the RSF and the UAE are trading with our blood to achieve whatever political objective they have.
As someone who actively took part in the protests, and jailed during it, I deeply regret for being so blind to what was plainly obvious at the time. That this was just another color revolution orchestrated by the usual suspects.

DISCUSSION | نقاش Why is criticizing your own side treated as betrayal? A question about Sudan and collective identity
Sudan has gone through multiple long and devastating civil wars, yet we keep repeating the same patterns.
When our side kills civilians, we cheer. When the other side does it, they're barbarians. Our side are the angels, the other side is the devil. And if we criticize our own side, we're accused of being traitors.
I've been reading about collective narcissism, the idea that people become so invested in their group's image that admitting its wrongdoing feels like an attack on their identity.
But if we condemn an act only when our enemies commit it, do we actually stand for a principle, or are we just defending our group?
How can Sudan ever break this cycle if loyalty matters more than accountability?
I'd like to hear from Sudanese people and others who've seen similar patterns in their own societies.

Why are we generally not politically talkative?
I understand that most of what we see on social media is propaganda for either one party or another (and its useless to engage with) but it’s disappointing how so many intellectuals with great pattern-recognition skills just keep to themselves.
No one gets to hear what we know because we never share and I think thats why people don’t care actually.

QUESTION | كدي سؤال Sudanese women who married outside our culture, how did your families react?
I wanted to ask if there are any Sudanese women here who married someone who isn’t Sudanese, especially someone from a completely different culture.
For those of you who’ve been in a similar situation, how did your families react when you told them? Were they accepting from the beginning, or did you face rejection and difficulties? If they were against it at first, did they eventually come around? And how did you approach the conversation with them?
I’d really appreciate hearing your personal experiences and any advice you have, especially from women who married Somali men or men from completely different cultures. I just want to hear from people who understand Sudanese families and our culture.

PERSONAL | اللمور الشخصية I refused to work in Dubai
Two of my siblings got jobs there thanks to residency connections with Dad. I absolutely *loathe* that place it feels dreadful to even set foot in it. Something just feels utterly off about the country as a whole, like there is this permeating depressing feeling that takes over us whenever we go there. Its not even just the fact that they caused the war back home
Me and my mum plus remaining siblings chose to stay in a neighboring country to Sudan, Uganda was our first escape from the war. My two other siblings went to UAE to be with Dad and get work. I didn't want to go with them. I don't blame my siblings for their choice because the job market is shot in Uganda where you're expected to accept pennies while the cost of living is through the roof
Anyways I'm just ranting here, if you guys know anyone who needs a data entry clerk/cashior please let me know. I'm not picky

CULTURE & HISTORY | الثقافة والتاريخ Can someone explain to me what blackness means as an identity?
آخر يومين شفت ترند "I was born afro-arab, but to arab I'll always be black so I'll choose black any time" واكتشفت إني ما عارف يعني شنو إنك تكون black كهوية
