Question Which of these device to use as client?

I learned about streaming games literally today as I had previously planned to run a 60ft optical HDMI and Ethernet for USB.

My host PC is hardwired with Ethernet and my TV room has Ethernet available.

My smart TV doesn't support any apps, moonlight or steamlink.

My options for a device to connect to my TV are, in order of increasing price all in Canadian dollars.

  1. An Xbox one which I own

  2. A used apple TV4k 2nd gen for $70... Probably could get for $50

  3. A new Google TV streamer for $100

  4. An M73 Lenovo think center for $120 (16gb, 500gb storage). Lots of options of this vintage in this price range, around $100-150

  5. A raspberry Pi 4gb, unit only, for $150.

  6. An M910q Lenovo think center refurbished for $190

The HDMI route will be around $300CAD all in, so ideally I would like to keep it under $100, but I don't have a clue what affects quality. I don't really need the utility of another real computer but am OK if it makes the setup more functional.

Thanks very much for any advice!!

Question Is the physical steam link still worth it?

I found one on Facebook marketplace for $60. I’m I wanna stream my pc (in my room) to my tv (also in my room) but my pc doesn’t support Miracast and Samsung smart tvs don’t support steam link app anymore.

Should I get the physical one or is it obsolete now?

Question Looking for a solution on Steam Link with my Projector

Last year, I got a Projector for my bedroom as due to spinal issues I prefer to lay down compared to sit down at home.

Also, I have been using Steam Link to play PC games on my phone (with a controller) for the same time.

I want to use Steam Link on the Projector, but when I tried it the lag was terrible.

Trying to figure out what my options are. Do I risk wireless HDMI? It's an apartment and only two real rooms, so it's not a great distance. A cable would be obtrusive.

Or do I get a simple HTPC/Streaming PC that can handle Steam Link that I connect to the Projector's HDMI port?

Or maybe buy a cheap laptop?

Edit: Good news! The MINI PC worked! The input delay was no worse than Steam Link on the phone. Huzzah!

Question Any cheap and compatible hardware for steam link install?

I have been using a 4k fire tv but seems laggy and works with tons of delay and some time to time flickering. It is connected o an slave router on mesh with the main router connected to the host (blazzite machine).

I am confident the modem mesh does support the speed and timming need and probably the problem comes from fire stick with low speed wifi capabilities. That's why I was considering buying any low consumption hardware with Ethernet socket and install there moonlight and steam link app. Do you have any idea? A raspberry clone?

Do you recommend any other approach?

Question Best option for streaming to TV?

So, right now I have been using my Nvidia Shield Pro to stream Steam from the PC to my TV, but I have become increasingly displeased with this because it seems to introduce a ton of lag. I know that this is from the Shield because I also have a Series X and it doesn't have lag.

Anyways, I decided to try connecting my tablet (OnePlus Pad 2) to the TV with an HDMI adapter and that seems a lot snappier and less laggy. However, there I have the issue that the HDMI is a mirror and the aspect ratio is the one from the tablet so it has black bars on the sides.

I'm wondering what would be the best option here.

A) Replace the Shield with a different streaming box that does the job better. I don't know of any of them, so I'd be open to suggestions.

B) Figure out how to get my tablet to change the aspect ratio when using the external display.

C) Replace my phone with one that can output HDMI at 16:9 on an external display and is good for this purpose (I am replacing my phone next year, current one can't do HDMI over USB C).

D) Buy a stupid long HDMI cable and plug the computer directly into the TV.

I would be especially interested in any option that would allow me to use that new codec that is supposed to reduce latency.

Edit: So it turns out that there was something going on with how my controller was interacting with the Shield. I plugged the dongle into the PC directly and it works great now. Hot damn.

Question Running cat6 from PC to Steam Link, do I need a router inbetween?

Today I'll be routing cat6 cables through my home and one of the goals is getting it from my PC in an office basement to a TV stand on another floor. I have the means to directly connect the Steam Link hardware to my PC, but should I?

I could instead wire the PC to my router, then the router wired to the Link, but it would make more sense in my situation to use Internet via WiFi and the direct wired connection just for Link streaming. My PC, Link, router form a triangle kinda shape since the router is out of the way and a direct run from PC to Link would mean less cable, less going in-and-out of walls, less wall enclosures, etc.

Is it possible to run the Steam Link connected straight to your PC?

Question What is the cheapest way to use Steam Link on WebOS in 2026?

As in title, did something change about ways to use Steam Link on LG TV? A lot of questions were made a few years ago and most recent answers unfortunately didn't provide me the solution I need.

- my tv model can't be homebrewed

- I don't live in US, so Walmart's products are unavailable for me

- my PC is more than 5 meters away from my tv, so I can't use HDMI cable or move with my PC from desk to tv and then from tv to my desk to just play some games

- I can't afford Nvidia shield, Apple TV and most "branded" devices providing Android TV

So, is there any device I can buy for really, really low price to finally enjoy my Steam games on my tv?

EDIT: NO, I CANT BUY APPLE TV, ITS NOT CHEAP IN MY COUNTRY. NO, IM NOT FROM US, CANADA OR ANY RICH EUROPEAN COUNTRY.

Question How do I "stream" from my PC, to my TV... gimme the run down...

With the announcement / beta release of Pyrowave, I'd like to try this out ...

I have a nice 5080 powered PC, and wrangling switching displays between it and the 83 inch 4K TV in the next room is a PITA if you need to jump up and down and wrangle keyboards and mice and controllers...

How can I stream to my TV from Steam on my PC?

I have an AppleTV, a PS5, and of course the TV, but I _really_ do not want to plug in the LG TV to the network.

I have hard line networking between all of the devices.

Is there a good Windows 11 --> AppleTV integration?

Thanks!

Edit: spelling

Question New to Steam Link. Is it possible to get this working on a TV that can't download the app?

For context this is my first time trying to stream anything outside of Netflix. I'm looking to get Steam Link setup to stream from my Lenovo Legion Pro 7i laptop to a Sony KD-65X7000G (2020) television. The television came with streaming apps like Netflix/Prime but doesn't have access to any app stores.

Also, do I need a HDMI cable to make this work? Due to various reasons I'm not able to make any setup requiring physical cables work at this time.

Question Can I remote into my server pc with the Steam Link?

I currently don't have a quick display solution for my server so everytime I want to add media or mess with anything I have to drag peripherals across my house. Could a Steam Link let me get in there and move files and such? Would it be wicked clunky?

Question Steam Link box is dying. What to replace it with?

My launch version Steam Link box is showing signs of dying. Lag, dropped audio, network issues, etc...

What's a good alternative for streaming games to my TV? I also use it to stream movies/tv shows to my TV if that matters

Current setup: PC and Steam link connected via Ethernet to router

edit: Just realized the Steam Deck is sold out where I am (Canada)

Question Does a bigger display make Steam Link compression way more obvious?

Not talking about latency here, just image quality.
I’ve been looking at the RayNeo GT Max for Steam Link because the bigger virtual screen sounds great for gaming in bed or while traveling.
But if I’m taking the same stream I’d normally watch on a tablet and blowing it up that much, I’m wondering if compression, soft text, and resolution scaling issues just get way easier to notice.
For people streaming to larger displays, what resolution and bitrate actually looks good to you?

Question Periodic performance spikes when streaming, any help?

I have the Link h/w box connected straight to my PC's gigabit LAN port. I'm streaming 1080p60 with bitrate capped at 30mbps in Steam, using the Beautiful setting.

Periodically, every 1-30min, the stream will freeze for about a second and then go back to normal. Here's what that looks like in the performance overlay. As well, sometimes a popup will alert asking me to change bitrate to automatic. Here's what that looks like.

This alert box is something new, within the last few days since a recent Link update but the periodic freezing has been a thing for months, even when I was using the Link through WiFi. It doesn't matter what game I play, but recently it has been happening in Forza Horizon 6, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Onimusha Way of the Sword.

In Windows, I've disabled ICS, Energy Efficient Ethernet, and Interrupt Moderation. I'm not sure what those do exactly but someone suggested it could be an issue with my ethernet adapter's power management. None of those changes seem to improve my experience.

What could the issue be? 30mbps should be nothing to the Link's 100mbps port or my mobo's gigabit port. Otherwise my performance is great, it's just frustrating having these pauses so frequently.

Question Controller unresponsive because Steam loses focus on quitting game

When I close Ace Combat 7, it shows me my desktop with BPM in a small window and in the Windows taskbar, the Steam process is blinking orange.

I cannot do anything at this point. Controllers don't move around in BPM, I can access the remote play overlay and select virtual keyboard or enable controller mouse control, but both don't seem to do anything at all. If I press "stop streaming" and start it up again, I get BPM maximized but still my controller does nothing.

I was able to press Home+Start once and it opened an alt-tab menu so I could select Steam but I haven't been able to reproduce that behavior. The only way to regain control is going to my physical PC and clicking on the Steam window.

I've tried:

  • forcing Steam input for AC7
  • changing AC7 from fullscreen to borderless to windowed
  • fiddling with Steam controller desktop controls
  • setting remote play settings to match PC resolution
  • giving Steam elevated privileges
  • closing RTSS and other overlays
  • pressing Home + any other button combination

The issue only appears to happen with AC7. I can't reproduce my problem with any other game I've tried. "Guide button focuses Steam" has always been enabled, and if I ever exit a game and BPM isn't maximized, pressing Home fixes it. Just not this time.

Any ideas?

Question Arizona Sunshine Remake - no menu?

The game works great in standalone mode, but when I stream it from my PC I have quite a bit of lag, but the worst part is the menu button doesn't work.

Has anyone the same problem?

Question Steam link gamepad issue for Xbox PC games

I'm using steam link with a gamepad and all my steam games work without issue, but any game I play outside of steam always has controller issues. I've tried changing the "desktop controller" setting in steam but nothing seems to work properly. Is there some other setting I can try or is gamepad support for steam link just not great for any games outside of steam?

Question Streaming full screen from pc to steam deck?

Something really infuriating happened to me on the steam deck.

I was playing Resident Evil Requiem and didn’t love the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen using remote play from my PC.

I fiddled around with settings and togged “match client resolution” on my PC’s steam remote play settings, and voila, I was able to stream the game using the entirety of the deck’s screen. No more black bars.

I then downloaded the game to my deck because I wanted to play it at work. The performance wasn’t great, so when I got home I tried streaming the game from my PC again. The black bars are back.

I tried uninstalling the game on my deck, fucking with the settings, checking the game files, messing with the resident .config, nothing fucking works.

Does anyone have a fix? I’m mad that I had it figured out and now it doesn’t work anymore.

Thanks.

Question Issues with Mac to ios steamlink

Hi everyone,

Recently gotten Stardew on my mac and was looking into mirroring it to my ipad to play. I was advised to use steam link but I've run into some issues.

Whenever I load it up on my ipad, the mac displays the connected screen, but the ipad never loads and is forever stuck on the loading panel.

Additionally, Steam closes a few seconds after, claims its checking for updates, and then reopens. (Breaking any connection it had.) My steam is fully updated so I dont know why.

- Steam remote play is enabled, hardware encoding off (?)

- Running through internet, same network

- Firewall is disabled on mac and all privacy settings enabled.

Thanks so much!! This is giving me a massive headache
