Steam link gamepad issue for Xbox PC games

I'm using steam link with a gamepad and all my steam games work without issue, but any game I play outside of steam always has controller issues. I've tried changing the "desktop controller" setting in steam but nothing seems to work properly. Is there some other setting I can try or is gamepad support for steam link just not great for any games outside of steam?

You need a overlay in the other plataformas and virtualusb for emulators

I tried the "gamepad" and "WASD" layouts, is that what you mean? I just started using steam link recently so all this stuff with overlays and layouts is new to me
