No way, a program that basically does nothing, runs faster than a fucking behemoth of features?

Steam is a games store, and library, with reviews from users and creators, built in mod support, built in streaming. Built-in entire god damn social network with dedicated discussion forums for each game, community hub, communication platform for developers, social features with everything from chatting, group chatting, video streaming, voice chat, ad choc game invites/joining, guides... I probably forgot like 100 features.

Meanwhile Epic Games Store, which launched 8 years ago still does not support a fucking cart, so you can check out more than one product at a time. Navigating the store, checking out various DLCs for one game is so fucking annoying that I remember getting a free game on Epic, playing it and liking enough that I considered to buy a DLC... but it was so ass to use, I just went to Steam and purchase it again just to get the DLC there, it had a discount too.

The level of detachment from reality it's just pissing me off. Like, Pepsi can poke fun at Coke, they're basically the same thing, despite Coke being the "bigger brand". If Pepsi was selling fucking dirty pot hole water in a can an trying to compare themselves to Coke, that's kind of how EGS taking shots at Steam sounds like.

EGS has a cart. I know the bar is low but it does.

Took them til 2021 to add it, though.

And when they did, they made an announcement like it was a revolutionary new feature.

They must have missed a step in Apples playbook.

Usually when apple copies a long standing android feature and passes it off as revolutionary they at least do it better (or not worse).

Yeah, I was about to say the same. Like, come on dawg, it absolutely has a cart. And that's mainly, the only concrete bad thing he had to say, and it was false...

Sure, it's not Steam but every now and then, I buy something on Epic too. Competition breeds innovation. Lack of competition breeds monopoly. Monopoly is never good, unless you're playing the Monopoly board game.

Above all else, just be fair dude, you don't have to lie to make it obvious that Steam is better, lol.

It took them 3 years to add a cart lmao, with how little people actually use it I'm not surprised some aren't up to speed.

-2

u/AquaBits 12h ago

It took valve 5 years (2003 to 2008)

6

u/Weird_Network_9749 11h ago

Correct, now name 1 (one) digital videogame storefront Steam competed with in 2008 that HAD a functioning shopping cart.

GoG

u/zzazzzz 11h ago

gog was only founded in 2008. so how?

-1

u/AquaBits 10h ago

My mistake. Games for windows live/Games on demand had on in 2010.

I dunno man, I bought more than a couple games on Epic, to support them, plus, they were cheaper than Steam because discounts.

Alan Wake 2, because it's exclusive, God of War remake and a couple more.

You know, not everyone needs gaming profiles and achivements and streaming capabilities and etc. We just want good games bro. Sure, Steam is king but let's stop beating down on lesser competitors. Nobody should want monopoly on something

7

u/CotyledonTomen 11h ago

Nobody is beating down on it for being competition. Theyre laughing at it trying to compare apples to oranges and suggest its anywhere similar in quality. They should actually make their product better if the want to compete.

u/sakaixjin 11h ago

Speaking on the subject of this post, yeah, it's pathetic and deserves to be bashed. Absolutely delusional, whoever THOUGHT of even posting that.

But my reply was to a guy bashing Epic for not having a cart which is a straight up lie.

Yes let's support exclusive behaviour!

1

u/sakaixjin 11h ago

You don't even know why it's exclusive and you're being an insufferable smartass.

The game is exclusive to Epic Games Store because Epic FUNDED the development of Alan Wake 2. 100% FUNDED BY EPIC.

Can you like, shut your blabbering, seeing that you're absolutely clueless and just wanna be edgy on the hate bandwagon?

1

u/Weekly-Penalty-955 9h ago

No I can't do that

1

u/sakaixjin 9h ago

Clearly

-1

u/AquaBits 12h ago

Valve has exclusives on steam too though.

But the fact that Epic funds game developement so we can get gamee is much better than Valve's "hire a company only to put their project on hold" or "Barely update the games they make millions and billions off of"

1

u/CarpeKitty 11h ago

There can be consumer positive monopolies.

3

u/zzazzzz 11h ago

ppl dont hate epic because they love steam, they hate epic because they have repeatedly shown to be a shit company that does not care about the consumers at all.

0

u/sakaixjin 10h ago

You really don't know what you're talking about but ok.

Epic is 100% one of the most vital, foundational companies in the gaming industry.

A simple google search will enlighten you.

Stop being an edgy consumer. Be an educated consumer. Do some research.

"shit company that does not care about the consumers at all." is a dumb take from an ignorant little gamer.

u/AquaBits 12h ago

These people dont care if it does or doesnt have a cart. They'll hate the other game launcher for whatever reason they can remember, facts or logical reasoning be damned.

Nintendo also hasnt had a cart for the switch 1 or 2, and that shit is never brought up for obvious reasons.

0

u/Environmental-Try736 11h ago

The obvious reason being that there's no alternative to Nintendo's store on the switch?

0

u/AquaBits 11h ago

But isnt it still shitty that a billion dollar company doesnt have a shopping cart? Or does it not really matter in the grand scheme of things?

1

u/zzazzzz 11h ago

ofc its shitty, but nintendo being a shitty company who is utterly incompetent at anything to do with online features is just what ppl expect and many simply never bought into a modern nintendo console so wouldnt even know.

0

u/AquaBits 10h ago

So... the shopping cart isnt an issue because the purchasers dont care?

Now, can you extrapolate that information to apply to say, other storefronts?

1

u/Environmental-Try736 10h ago

I was responding to your post saying it's never brought up for obvious reasons.

People shit on epic by comparison to other stores. On Nintendo you don't have the choice to use their shitty shop so why would you bring it up or compare it to other shops? You just use the shitty Nintendo shop and go on with your day.

Epic gets shat on because it tries to sell itself while much better alternatives exist.

-1

u/AquaBits 10h ago

Its not brought up because its a console lol

1

u/Environmental-Try736 10h ago

Yeah, and it being a console, you don't get a choice which store to use

1

u/AquaBits 10h ago

So... its ok to not have a shopping cart if you are the only store in town (or have exclusive items to your store)

See, facts and logical reasoning be damned!

1

u/Environmental-Try736 10h ago

Look man, I am trying here. You don't get my point.

I never said it was OK, I even said their store is shit. I said it was never BROUGHT UP, because Nintendo, unlike epic, isn't trying to sell an online shop in a space where there are other, better, alternatives.

I don't know how I can make my point clearer. I think Nintendo, and consoles in general, are shit. Does that help?

-1

u/AquaBits 10h ago

facts or logical reasoning be damned

Yes you made my point! Thank you for the example!
