Hey everyone!
As many of you know, the knife contest we had planned for this year didn’t quite come together as hoped. Rather than let the donated prizes go to waste, I thought we’d take a different approach and hold a smaller, more refined photo contest for the community.
The goal is to keep things simple, celebrate our shared love of traditional slipjoint knives, and give everyone a chance to show off their photography and favorite knives.
HOW TO ENTER
- Post a picture of your favorite slipjoint knife or your entire collection in the comments below. The composition and number of knives is entirely up to you.
- Photos must be your own work. (No AI)
- One entry per person.
- Entry must have a timestamp clearly showing your Reddit username and the date of your picture.
Get creative! Whether it’s your everyday carry, a well-loved traditional, or a thoughtfully composed outdoor shot, we’d love to see it.
PRIZES & VOTING
We’ll have two winners, determined by community upvotes.
First Place: The entry with the most upvotes at the close of the contest.
Second Place: The entry with the second-most upvotes.
Please keep things fair and friendly. Nobody is really moderating this, but please no vote manipulation, soliciting outside votes, or downvoting other entries to gain an advantage.
CONTEST TIMELINE
The contest will run for two weeks, beginning today Friday, October 2, and closing Friday, October 16, 2026.
This should give everyone plenty of time to see the post, submit an entry, and participate in voting. Winners will be announced after the contest closes.
THANK YOU TO OUR PRIZE DONORS!
A special thank you to everyone who generously donated prizes and helped make this contest possible. Your support of the subreddit and its community is greatly appreciated.
Prize Donors:
KnivesShipFree
GPKnives (u/GPKnives)
Eagle Valley Cutlery
Please show these folks some appreciation for their generosity!
Good luck, everyone, and let’s see those knives!

Well, it looks like the inaugural r/SJK Awards didn’t quite generate the interest we were hoping for.
With the number of submissions we received, I don’t think we have enough participation to make hosting the contest worthwhile this year. Rather than force something just for the sake of having a contest, I’m going to call it here.
I’ll give some thought to whether there’s a better time of year to run something like this in the future.
In the meantime, keep on keeping on 👍

Here’s one that deserves a little time in the spotlight.
An extraordinary early Case XX 6250 Sunfish, believed to date to 1940–1949, bearing the CASE XX tang stamp without a pattern number. Acquired from a private collection, with a single collector-owner preceding me.
What makes this particular example so special is the remarkable preservation of its original character. Both blades retain what appear to be their factory edges, with exceptionally full profiles and that unmistakable gator-strength walk and talk these old Sunfish are famous for.
But the bone is the real showstopper.
The show side carries a gorgeous red-honey coloration, transitioning from warm golden amber into deep reddish-brown jigging. The pile side displays a richer, more saturated red, with remarkable depth and contrast. Most impressive is the virtually uninterrupted topography of the jigged bone, retaining the pronounced peaks, valleys, and intricate character that make these early Case handles so desirable.
The combination of blade preservation, mechanical strength, deeply figured bone, and nearly eight decades of history makes this an exceptional survivor.
For me, this is what collecting vintage Case knives is all about. Not simply finding an uncommon pattern, but finding an example that still displays so much of the craftsmanship and character that made these knives legendary.
A genuine grail piece, and one I’m exceptionally proud to have in my collection.
Shot on my iPhone in diffused, outdoor evening light.

Took years but I finally landed a 44 in brass and cocobolo! It’s been cared for properly while used respectfully and in my pocket it went.

Found this Case last minute on auction and grabbed it for less than $20 shipped. Last owner did not take care of it so it was a fun lil project when I got it.

These turned out excellent. Been using the blue India jigged bone the past six days and was planning on trying to keep the antique yellow jigged bone pristine but.. I can’t help myself. Awesome run, excellent users. Some of my recent GECs have been hit or miss but these ones are both damn near perfect.

Taylors Eye Witness Barlow Model 100
and Joseph Rodgers Lambsfoot.
First impression for both was pretty good. The Joseph Rodgers needed a good strop at first, now both cut well. With a blade length of 5,5cm (or 2.2 inches) they both are small knives. Handy for most everyday tasks, compact enough to drop in your pocket and forget about it until you need it.
As my first knives from sheffield they make me check out other makers and models from england. Good stuff.
