Local News Ballot language, again, appears illegal

Hi. I posted this to the Utah Reddit but it was removed. However, I have seen no mention of this…

When reading the ballot language about citizen initiatives, the reading level is above 12th grade. That should already be a red flag. Case already built, it’s above typical reading level, comprehension now a problem

Second problem, the language on taxes is highly confusing and face value reads untrue to the point of this proposition.

Utah already had ballot language struck for these exact reasons, on this exact topic of initiatives.

Face value, common person, even a “smart” person…this seems like intentional skewing the language to have someone not understand what they are voting for. That was already determined illegal by the Utah Supreme Court.

Time for that again?

I’m not sure how to vote for these tax bonds. I don’t know what they are. Can someone help me so I understand what it’s asking for? I understand the one for Crescent so how is everyone feeling about that? I think it sounds good but sometimes I don’t understand the whole deal.

Sky Photo SLC really said, “Here’s your weekly reminder why you love Utah” 🌈🏔️

I commented one of these rainbow pictures on someone else’s post earlier this week, and you guys showed it so much love that I figured the rest deserved their own post! 😂🌈

So here’s the full rainbow show from this week, right over Salt Lake City!

- One minute the skies were looking like the world was ending, and the next, Utah decided to casually drop a whole rainbow across the valley like it was no big deal.
Say what you want about Utah, but the mountains, the skies, and these random moments of beauty never disappoint. ❤️

- SLC, you really are something special. 🏔️

And no, I didn’t find the pot of gold at the end. Pretty sure it’s just another apartment charging $2,000 in rent. 😂
Much love, Utah! ❤️🌈

Lost & Found Stolen Ebike - Midvale near Fort Union

Stolen last night sometime between 9pm and today 8am. Doesn't have the battery. Right side of the frame is all banged up from the last theft attempt. If you see it, send me a message, if you have it, bring it back to where you found it and no other questions will be asked. I use this bike to commute from Midvale to Herriman when my 30 year old car is having mechanical issues so it's a pretty important part of my life. (First picture is when I first got it, second is most current I could find with the crate and side bags)

Stephanie Pitcher Voted Against Fluoride in Our Water

As we get our ballots, I just wanted to send a reminder that she voted to remove Fluoride from our water. I’m not trying to debate one way or another, I’m just reminding you all how she has voted and how that may or may not impact our health.

Recommendations Dating scene for people over 30. Does it exist?

Just moved here and my god everyone is married at 21 and having kids. It’s amazing don’t get me wrong but where I’m from people don’t get married until early 30’s and it’s really easy to meet people for the most part bc there’s so many singles.

How have others fared here with the dating scene? Currently a 31 yr male. Virtually all my coworkers are married and I’m getting really weird looks from people when I tell them I’m not married and don’t have a family lol.

Recommendations Lawyers for renters?

** NOT LOOKING FOR LEGAL ADVICE, just recommendations for lawyers **

I am dealing with an incredibly frustrating situation with the water bill at my apartment complex. I realize from other posts I’ve seen that there has been some recent changes with water billing for apartments, but this is regarding excessive billing the last few months due to likely leak(s) that were JUST fixed yesterday. We went from paying less than $20 for our water bill to paying well over $100, and our next bill is $192. Just for the water!! I would like to possibly talk with a lawyer to see if I am able to fight this and possibly get reimbursement/compensation.

Unsure if I can share this or not, but I’m going to do it anyways. Came across it this evening and wanted to share.

Edit: The inability of some of you to separate fear from education is quite staggering. I’m sharing this for anyone who wanted to learn more about the science behind it, but instead, you’ve interpreted it as, “We are all going to die.”

I’m a New Hospice Volunteer Coordinator and would love to ask you all the best way to recruit?

Help me out please. This is how I advertise- and have been a hospice chaplain for nearly 8 years and LOVE it so much- but am open for ideas and suggestion on how better? I have my Hospice team members post on social media and have hung up flyers in coffee shops.

“Want to give back in meaningful and rewarding ways?

Hospice volunteers are a vital part of our care team. These compassionate community members are trained to provide companionship, light assistance, and presence to patients and families during a deeply meaningful time. Volunteers extend the warmth of our care beyond clinical services.

Volunteer services are available to hospice patients and their families who would benefit from additional companionship, light assistance, or caregiver relief.”

Does anybody know if this cool antique Warehouse on 600 South is still open? There seems to be no Google map business listing so I'm wondering if it went under

Saw this white Persian cat while out walking. I tried to get close but it ran away and I only got these crappy photos. It was looking pretty rough, couldn’t tell if it was all white or had grey or if it was just dirty. Saw near 807 E 200 S.

I paid $83 total, willing to part with them for much cheaper. Just really don't want them to go to waste. Also first comment that says "dibs" can have em for free if I don't find a buyer.

Local News Utah is halfway to Gov. Cox’s starter home deadline with less than 25% built

We're halfway to the 2028 deadline, and fewer than 8,000 starter homes are up -- less than a quarter of Gov. Cox's goal of 35,000. Infrastructure funding and the program to build on vacant state land should help.

For developer Jed Nilson, it's crazy that starter homes cost as much as they do.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere that still has good "snowliage" to go see? Want to take a drive but did the rain/wind/snow clear out all the color?

Photo Pumpkin Spice Kitty!

For all of you who love pumkin spice anything (or EVERYTHINNG), this is Patricia Pumpkin. She's a 3 yo Domestic Short Hair Tortiseshell cat. She's a cup shy of a gallon (7.5 pounds) and checks the box for lap cat as you can see in her photo. She's also good with tummy rubs, in fact she craves a good snuggle. She is also good with other cats and is currently sharing a room with a large black male cat (Ash, a DLH black and white, gallon and a half) who is also a sweetheart. You can find her details at the Salt Lake County Animal Services (https://www.saltlakecounty.gov/animal-services/adoption/search-adoptable-pets) or just drop by the shelter for a visit (3900S 500W).

There are also a couple of calico kittens (calicos are nearly always female) and other loveable furbabies looking for homes.
Cats are not for everyone, but for those of us on Team Cat, even if you aren't able to adopt right now, stop by the shelter for some feline lovin'.

Living in an RV/Tiny on your own property in SLC

Is it possible to live in a tiny or trailer on the property of your own home in SLC? I've seen several around town. The idea would be to rent the home for periods to reduce expenses or while traveling.

Restaurant buyout/rental pricing

Anybody have any intel about pricing for restaurant buyouts in or around SLC? Buyout meaning, you rent the entire restaurant for a whole meal service.

I’m very open to various options, but should accommodate 75-100 people. Brunch, lunch, dinner, fancy, or a dive.

There is never information online about buyouts, and it’s usually a whole ordeal to schedule a consultation for one. I’m just looking for rough pricing! If you’ve bought out a restaurant for a morning or evening, tell me where and how much you paid!

Thanks so much!

Discussion Can someone enlighten me about SEG?

The new "entertainment district" plans seem to be sparking some discourse about Smith Entertainment Groups practices. I for one think the plans are really cool, but hearing that it's a ploy to put taxpayer money into Ryan Smiths pockets does make me a little angry. Specifically it sounds like SEG holds no risk, and also puts up nothing upfront. Meaning that the taxpayer is taking the upfront cost and risk burden, meanwhile SEG stands only to gain. Furthermore, SEG held the Jazz hostage if the city didn't comply.

Does anyone have info/sources regarding the above claim? If so, i'd love to see them. I'm doing independent research as well, but I thought i'd try to get info straight from the place that I'm hearing the most about this whole thing.

I care deeply about this city and its people. Its where i've grown up and lived my whole life. I want to have a better understanding of how situations like this work. Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.
