Shitpost Stock Market Recap for Thursday, October 15, 2026

Post image
• Upvotes

The major U.S. stock indexes ended mixed on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as a stunning September PPI that came in more than double forecasts at +1.3% month-over-month should have sent markets crashing — but a dramatic flight to Treasuries sent the 10-year yield tumbling toward 5.09%, giving the Dow and Russell 2000 room to breathe even as the Nasdaq clung to tiny gains. It was one of the most paradoxical sessions of the year: the worst wholesale inflation print in years, and a bond market that chose to rally anyway.

The S&P 500 gained 0.33% (+25.12 pts) to 7,744.06. The Dow surged 1.08% (+556.21 pts) to 52,177.69. The Nasdaq edged up just 0.08% (+20.16 pts) to 26,713.03. The Russell 2000 jumped 1.38% (+37.74 pts) to 2,767.27.

The 10-year Treasury yield fell a stunning 1.95% to 5.09%, its biggest single-day drop in weeks. The VIX eased 2.67% to 16.42. Bitcoin gained 0.79% to $82,317.99. Gold surged 2.12% to $4,194.90. Crude Oil rose 2.50% to $96.25/barrel.

Shitpost Free $1k margin with gold and SGOV

Why wouldn't everyone with gold, whether they trade on margin or not, not take the $1k interest free margin and buy something stable with dividends like SGOV?

Feels like a free $3/mo but also like I must be missing something.

Stock Market Recap for Wednesday, October 14, 2026

Post image
9 Upvotes

The major U.S. stock indexes ended broadly lower on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as a hotter-than-expected September CPI report reignited December rate hike fears, Bank of America plunged nearly 5% on a $1.2 billion regulatory penalty and earnings miss, and the semiconductor sector extended its worst streak in months. CPI has now run above 2% for 65 consecutive months, the longest streak since the 1990s.

The S&P 500 dropped 1.11% (-86.51 pts) to 7,718.94, now more than 1.6% below its all-time high. The Dow barely moved, slipping just 0.09% (-48.62 pts) to 51,621.48, with energy stocks providing a cushion. The Nasdaq shed 1.88% (-511.51 pts) to 26,692.87. The Russell 2000 tumbled 1.93% (-53.83 pts) to 2,729.54.

The 10-year Treasury yield fell 0.52% to 5.19%, an unusual divergence from what would typically be a yield spike on hot CPI. The VIX spiked 10.02% to 16.80. Bitcoin dropped 1.79% to $81,849.09. Gold fell 1.33% to $4,121.70. Crude Oil rose 1.01% to $95.09/barrel.

Stock Market Recap for Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Post image

The major U.S. stock indexes ended mixed on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, as a Goldman Sachs blowout collided with a JPMorgan rare miss and a brutal overnight chip-stock rout in Asia sent semiconductor names tumbling for a fifth straight week of pressure. The session was exactly the messy, crosscurrent-driven day the market gets when bank earnings, chip panic, and the eve of September CPI all land on the same morning.

The S&P 500 slipped 0.02% (-1.79 pts) to 7,805.45. The Dow fell 0.35% (-180.45 pts) to 51,670.10. The Nasdaq dropped 0.15% (-41.52 pts) to 27,204.38. The Russell 2000 declined 0.33% (-9.32 pts) to 2,785.16.

The 10-year Treasury yield eased to 5.22%. The VIX ticked up 0.79% to 15.33. Bitcoin gained 0.25% to $83,196.43. Gold was essentially flat at $4,187.30. Crude Oil rose 0.96% to $94.64/barrel.

Google this for me options trading 1 wte contracts

Hi all, I’m in the UK and looking into trading options on Robinhood. There’s one thing I’m struggling to get my head around.

Say you’re holding a 0DTE call or put that’s in the money, but you don’t have the cash to buy the shares for a call, or the shares to deliver for a put. I understand Robinhood may try to sell the contract before the close, but if it can’t, it can submit a “do not exercise” instruction and you could lose the option’s remaining value?

Has this actually happened to anyone here? What was the ticker, roughly how many contracts did you have, and had you tried selling it yourself first?

I’d want to close before expiry anyway, but I’m trying to understand whether this is a real problem on actively traded stocks or mainly a worst-case scenario in the terms. First-hand experiences would be really helpful. Cheers!

Margin invest and spending turned on. Stock lending turned off. Do I have to wait for the money to settle, even though it was a debit card instant transfer?

Get your paycheck after your shift. Not after two weeks.

This would make people feel rich.

Users could start earning interest up to 14 days sooner too, so their money works even harder. People would love it, and probably pick up more shifts.

Shitpost If the market is priced in, how do hedge funds and traders make money?

Hedge funds and traders (speculators) make money by exploiting inefficiencies in the market.

However, the efficient-market hypothesis assumes that the stock market is already perfectly priced in, and will only move due to news. This hypothesis also suggests that any price movement beyond that is a random walk.

Why does price discovery still happen, even after earnings or news comes out? Why does the market surge higher on no news, upsetting bears?

While the market still mostly prices in news, it still does not price in human emotions. It moves cyclically.

A basic comparison between market charts and random walks on 1 minute or greater candles yield noticeable differences. For example, strong sell-offs, strong buying, and choppy movement, are overly present in market charts, while rare in random walks, implying a market that moves by greed, fear, and human speculation than simply probability or news alone.

This cyclical market produces inefficiencies arising from greed and fear from two main types of market participants:

Retail traders. The stock market is a one-sum market. For every participant buying, their must be another person selling. In this case how speculators (smart money) would make money is by exploiting superficial analysis by retail (dumb money), through using discipline to exploit greed or fear (selling when high, buying when low).

For example, retail traders often buy at a a breakout, only to sell on fear when the price reversed sharply quickly. This is actually a classical market manipulation play by institutions. Also prevalent in underegulated cryptocurrency.

  1. Consumers and business owners. When consumers receive paychecks, part of that goes to 401ks and Roth IRAs, pumping up the market more. Same with income for business owners: they put it towards investments, which increase market prices further. This means that the stock market is a derivative of economic growth, and everybody's wealth grows when the economy is growing.

Also, the USA is a pro-business, advanced capitalist economy: resulting in not only domestic but foreign investment into the market.

Speculators (hedge funds, traders) not only win by long term economic/stock market growth but are also able to exploit consumers and business owners due to their unfamiliarity with short term price movements, by buying low and selling high in the short term.

For example, market sell-offs often induce not only consistent market participants (institutions, banks, retail) to sell, but also consumers and business owners not willing to lose more of their wealth. This selling during low pricing of the market creates opportunities for speculators who capitalize on the short term underpricing of the market.

Thus, the market prices in news, but leaves further price discovery to humans acting on emotions, like greed and fear, to create cyclical markets; allowing any person willing to study market psychology to gain an edge over less knowledgeable market participants, and make money.
