Critique request: student sketch for the Bulgarian state exam (âTravelersâ theme). How would you score it? no reference used
Iâd like to hear how youâd critique it against the actual exam brief and scoring rubric.
The task: âTravelersâ sketch
- Build a composition with more than three figures of different ages and genders, set in an outdoor environment.
- Depict the figures anatomically correctly and in proportion, showing gender characteristics.
- Place figures and objects consistently with their position in space.
- Render figures and environment using the rules of linear and atmospheric perspective.
- Include natural or urban elements related to the theme.
- Convey the mood through the figuresâ poses and a rich range of graphic means.
- Materials: black media only (black pencils, fineliner, ink with pen/brush, black ballpoint).
Scoring rubric (40 points total, 10 per criterion)
- Proportions of the head and figure are correct and appropriate to age and gender.
- Space is built using elements of perspective.
- The surrounding environment includes forms, objects and details that fit the theme.
- Skill in using the drawing material is demonstrated.
What Iâd love feedback on:
- How would you score each criterion?
- Does the piece read as âTravelersâ to you?
- Is this type of loose or rough style seem appropriate for such exams? I've never been to art school and have been self-taught. No references used just pencil and my sketchbook, sorry that it's not one full paper.
- Any suggestions for how the student could have strengthened the perspective and composition while keeping this energy?
