RIP how to deal with bunny loss Spoiler

Im so devastated. My baby died today. He was only 8 months old. I feel like the worst person on earth. He went in for his surgery to get neutered today and I didnt even see him before my mam dropped him off because i assumed everything would be fine. I cant stop crying. He was probably so scared and afraid and for nothing, hes just gone now.

I dont know how to deal with this. I havent lost an animal since i was a young kid, and i know i didnt get much time at all with him but i adopted him fresh out a breakup and hes been my little buddy throughout the pain. Now hes gone. I feel like its all my fault.

I dont know what to do for my other bunny either, they werent bonded yet but would be in the same room together with one caged frequentedly, and my first rabbit would sit by his cage and hang out. i dont know how to explain to him why we’re getting rid of all his friends things. I want to bring him in tomorrow to the vets before my baby is cremated but i dont know.

Please if anyone has experienced something like this please give me advice. I feel so lost and alone right now.

Discussion Tell me about a time your bun(s) safed you!

Ok, so we all know those buns are crazy good for mental health. But pls tell me about a specific moment where you're bun(s) snatched you out of a bad episode in your life!

Not going into detail here, but I am having a very rough time lately and this morning I got some extra bad news.

Was crying my whole way back home. And at home...

I saw my Safana munching on fresh greens. Like full on munching, mouth stuffed like a chipmunk.

I looked at her and she looked soooo damn silly xD crying fit turned into laughing fit.

went over to cuddle and kiss her.

world was less gray after <3

We're moving to a new place and the stairs look like this. Our bunnies will be free roaming in the living room, dining room and kitchen which all lead to the hallway with these stairs. Of course we will try to keep the doors to the hallway closed but shit happens so I'd rather have them safe if that's even possible?

Health Choosing a date. :( (TW euthanasia) Spoiler

Post image
15 Upvotes

So we took my rabbit, Fluffy, to the vets at 5pm today (just an hour ago). She has dental issues and potential e.cuniculi, and the only way to make her better is crazy 0.0.01% survival rate, £1000 surgeries and medication every day and still then she’ll have to take meds every day and struggle. I chose to take her home and decide a date to have her euthanised. I’m 14, I’ve had her since I was 9. Since then all of my massive, horrible life events have happened and she’s been there with me through all of them. I’m just so devastated and sad and I feel horrible for putting her through this. Idk how I’ll live without her - she’s my last childhood pet left and I’ll have no one. I’m not sure what I’m looking for, reassurance? Something like that? She’s such a sweet, bubbly girl - that whole vets visit she just wanted me to hold her, nipped me on the arm to try and get me to hold her once. I’ll miss her so much. :(

Bonding Rebonding? I feel really terrible

Hi there, I've got two neutered bunnies,, professionally bonded 5 months ago. They were the cutest things, always stuck together. Our life dramatically changed -my husband's visa was not renewed, he lost his job and went back to his country. So last month, i moved in a bedroom with the buns, in a house where dogs live. Before that we had a huge flat with a big garden so big change for them :(

They were having a huge zoomie in my bedroom when suddenly the had a tornado fight-don't know how it started. Really, really violent, I saw my little one fly against the walls of his pen. Like they were really going for the kill ( especially my girl, and she is much bigger).

I had to separate them for safety but this is very difficult. I live in a tiny bedroom only, so now their space is tiny and I feel awful about it. I. need to say that their bonding had been difficult, because they had fought badly before being bonded several times (met accidentally).

They have since improved, as it's been 3 weeks since they share the bedroom 7 hours a day, when I'm here. They mutually lick, groom, flop next to each other, but are less close than before. ( especially my giant female, my little male still looooves her). They shared a pen last night, no issue, but I heard my female thump twice.

However I am reluctant to put them together unsupervised again because their fight really came out of the blue and was so violent. Also my female is twice the size of my male. I am terrified that I might come back from work one day and find them badly injured...

I need to see my husband for the holidays, but 2 places at the boarding house is too expensive for me alone now... Especially in summer when I have two months.
I had to cancel my October-november trip already, but I really want to see him for Christmas. What should I do?

I thought about rehoming her but honestly I can't imagine myself seeing her little confused face in her transportation cage and leaving her forever with a random stranger who could put her in a tiny cage for the rest of her life, or who abandon her when they realise that she has so much energy...

I feel really guilty... They have to live in a tiny bedroom while they'd deserve a big garden to dig and jump:(

This is Milo and Lilja. Having a bonding session right now with them. I'm going to freeroam them once they're bonded since my apartment is pretty small. Any tips? Do I still make a homebase for them?

Behavior Strange behavior

I have a pretty boy ( a "géant papillon français"), and as his 4th birthday approaches, his behavior has completely changed. He’s always been the kind of rabbit who doesn’t really care about much of anything—during his walks, he didn’t like to go too far; he liked cuddles but nothing more, and he’d get bored of them quickly, and he never showed me any real signs of affection—except that this summer he started running toward me for cuddles, letting me pet him for three hours if I wanted to; he curls up into a loaf when I pet him or does “flops,” he makes the purring sound of a happy rabbit, and he lets me handle him however I want. Yet he still has the same cage (about 3 meters by 2 meters), the same food, and the same items in his cage; I haven’t changed how I behave around him—nothing has changed. I thought it was just the heat, so he didn’t have the strength to push me away, but right now it’s about 15 degrees, and he’s still acting this way. Of course, I’m fine with him being so sweet and gentle—I was just curious to know why he decided to change

Hi all im looking for some help regarding our buns new (OPEN) pen. We have to have them in there throughout the night as hes very mischievous come nighttime haha

We have places mats down but he keeps digging it up and eating bits of it over night! as you can see if photo. I cannot think of anything to help pin it down i was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. We tuck it right under his little hut everyday where the corner isnt visible (comes outside of pen) but he just goes at it and gets it eventually.

I would appreciate any recommendations please! Thanks 🐰

Behavior Bunny doing bunny things but no zoomies or binkies

My 14-week-old bunny is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping properly. The only thing that's been different is that he hasn't been doing his zoomies before I go to bed or his binkies during the day in the last 24 hours. He still does his sploots and stretches out. He lets us pet him and explores and wanders around the house. Should I be worried because he's not doing as many zoomies? He also chewed some playing cards and a bit of the corner of a pillow. That's the first time he's ever gotten into anything that wasn't food.

Health Senior Rabbit sudden floppy ear, does this tend to happen with age?

Hey, this isn't a medical assistance post, It's the opposite because it's confirmed by the vet that nothing is wrong with my rabbit, I'm curious if my situation is common.

My 7 years old bun's ear has suddenly become floppy a couple of weeks ago, it has never happened before.

We went to an exotic vet that confirmed that they can find nothing wrong besides Malassezia(fungi) in the ears, which we received drops for 20 days for treatment.

The treatment is almost over and there has no improvement with the ear, however besides that, the bun is functioning completely normal, eating pooping roaming ect..

The vet says besides checking post treatment if the drops have helped, there is nothing else to treat because nothing is wrong with the bun, it is healthy. While I trust the vet with my own life ( he is very experienced and has been treating my bun's life their whole life), my instincts just can't accept that a rabbit can undergo such change without anything else being wrong.

Is it common for seniors rabbits to just because one-ear-flopped?

Thank you :)

Care Getting rid of the space where my bun sleeps. How do I transition him to another sleep spot?

Post image

Hey fellow bun-parents! I hope you and your floofsters are triving.

I'm looking for any ideas/advice on how to tackle a transition. Please see Pet Tax pic attached of my handsome son.

I have a massive dinning table that Lou - a little Netherland, has claimed as his BatCave. Hidden Surveillance. YK. There was a chair under it and that has become his Fortress of Solitude for the last 3 years or so. He sleeps there. It's all cushioned with his blankets, a warm beanie bag and a Spiderman plush.

Last year, Bun Dad converted a chest of drawers into a nice open "hutch". The front is fully open, the back, top and side are closed. Lou has access to get in and out at his leisure. It's got a thick woven mat, a little panda pillow, and a round plush bed that we can take out or put back in if needed and there's still ample space for him to loaf in there. He uses the "hutch" to nap, to play hide n seek, when he's waiting for food etc. Basically, he uses it.

I am getting rid of the massive dinning table and the chair underneath. The horror, i know. I'm a terrble Bun Mom.

Any advice on helping Lou prepare and transition to the "hutch" full-time and any advice on how to handle any bunatude that will definitely follow?

Please and thank you!

Resources Looking for rabbit boarding facilities recommendations in and around Exeter

Hello!

I am on the lookout for a trusted rabbit boarding facility around Exeter. I have seen a few around but am looking for actual recommandations and what people's experience was as this can be very different to what we see on a website.

I have placed my bunnies at Hop and Stay but I was really not impressed with the equipment, the hutches were tiny and the outdoor pens were also very small. The lady running this boarding facility also has a very yappy dog which was stressful for my bunnies as the indoor hutch was at the entrance of the house, so the dog was barking all the time.

I have tried to contact Dandelion pet boarding but their website is broken and their phone number is not in use? it is impossible to contact them.

My bunnies havea good life at home free roaming, and with plenty of space to run, I am looking for that kind of service.

I appreciate your help!

Bunstruction with Tofu (ft. Mochi)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I give my buns some of that packing paper to play with. Most of the time they shred it a bit and jump on it but lose interest. Tofu is a naughty boy and he loves getting at things he isn't supposed to. I noticed that when I placed something near the gate he LOVED trying to grab it through the bars to steal it. So I got the idea to, instead of just giving them the paper, put it juuuuust out of reach, slightly through the bars, so they could feel so proud of themselves for nabbing something they maybe weren't allowed to have. And they had a really fun time doing it. Kept them occupied for like a solid 30 to 45 minutes. I just hope I am not training him to be a better thief haha

Care How to train your bunny to not struggle when held

I’ve been told that the best way to get rabbits used to being handled is to keep carrying them until they eventually get used to it, but does this only work for baby bunnies? My rabbit is already 6 months old, so I’m worried that forcing her to be carried might just make her more afraid of me instead. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help make her more comfortable with being handled?

Care Severely matted fur Spoiler

I just found a large mat on my bunny right above his genital area. It is very close to the skin and about 1.5-2”. There is no way I can get it out, I shaved off the top of it but don’t feel comfortable getting any closer. I have gotten out many mats before, just never had to deal with anything this big and in this location.

I feel horrible, he is a double maned Lionhead, and I completely missed that area. I look at his bottom area to make sure it’s clean maybe once a month or every two months (he’s a good groomer), but did not notice it. I will now be checking more often obviously but didn’t know I needed to be so on top of it. 😭

I know it would be best for the vet to remove it, but even that makes me nervous. I am not sure if it would be the vet or a tech that would do it, and I can’t imagine how it can safely be done with how close it is to his skin/genitals? Will they sedate him? Has he been in pain?

Despite my worry, I will be taking him to the vet, but am wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and if so what their vet did?
