I just wanted to share a relatively inexpensive solution I found to make my internet connection stronger and more stable for Remote Play.
My router is in my upstairs bedroom, while my PS5 setup is in the basement, where I don’t have any Ethernet ports. I live in an older house with plaster walls, and running an Ethernet cable through the house would have been difficult and impractical.
I originally bought a refurbished TP Link Deco mesh system to improve the WiFi in my basement, but the connection still wasn’t as stable as I wanted. I ended up buying a goCoax MoCA 2.5 adapter with a 2.5 GbE Ethernet port on Amazon for around $60.
If you have a coax port near your router, this could be a good option. I have a Verizon G3100 router, which has built in MoCA support, so I only needed to purchase one adapter. Essentially, the coax cable connects to my router upstairs, and the adapter connects to the coax port in my basement, giving me a wired Ethernet connection for my PS5 without having to run a new cable through the house.
Since connecting the adapter, my basement Deco has been able to use the coax connection for its backhaul instead of relying on a wireless signal through multiple plaster walls. You can definitely just run an Ethernet cord from the MoCA adapter to your Ps5 without a mesh system as well. This has made my connection much more stable and improved my Remote Play experience. It was a relatively simple and affordable solution that let me keep my existing mesh setup without having to run Ethernet cables throughout the house. If you’re having similar issues with your connection, it’s definitely worth checking out.
