Remote Play Settings / Wifi Setup Finally fixed my ps portal latency issue.
This may help people who have latency issues with their ps portal and is unplayable due to crashes. If you want to skip my backstory and want to jump on to the fixes directly go to my 2nd paragraph. For context I bought a ps portal couple of years ago and it has been unplayable for both remote play and cloud streaming when it got released. I somehow kept it, waiting for an update to resolve my issue and forgot about it. Recently wolverine was released and i tried playing it on the ps portal but it kept crashing after 10-15 minutes, making it unplayable. I dug around on what could possibly be wrong as I was pretty sure sony as a reputable company would not sell a defect product and i have been following this reddit page where i see lot of people who play it without any issues and love it calling it a dadstation made me want to resolve this issue even more.
Anyways, I have a verizon wifi, different providers might have similar steps. For verizon type 192.168.1.1 on your URL/browser, different providers have different admin numbers you can search google for it, then login by using the network settings password that is behind your router. It seems like verizon usually joins different networks into one so you have to first disable SON and rename multiple networks like 2.4ghz, 5ghz, 6ghz. Then on the wifi settings for 5ghz disable WWM power saver which might affect streaming as it helps portable devices to save battery which might affect portals connectivity issue. And also, under the 5ghz settings for Security you might see WPA2WPA3, you have to just select WPA2 for it as this will stop the "handshake" issue which forces devices to switch from wpa2 and wpa3 security every 10-15 mins affecting streaming. Then hit apply settings on the wifi settings, restart your ps portal and connect your ps portal to 5ghz. That resolved my connectivity issue. Happy gaming.
