Meta Affiliate Link Ban

Starting today, affiliate links are banned. Comments containing them will be automatically removed. The decision to allow them was made back when this was a tiny sub; we've since ballooned in size, there's been a noticeable uptick in users posting affiliate links (and in mass amounts, at that), and the rule was always on shaky ground due to both arbitrary enforcement (what dictates a "worthy" comment vs. a comment fishing for affiliate money?) and general principle.

If you've posted affiliate links in the past, you're not in trouble retroactively or otherwise. Comments containing affiliate links should, from now on, be automatically removed; no other action will be taken beyond automatic comment removal unless absolutely necessary.

Hong Kong Switching from S26 Ultra to Honor Magic 8 Pro (Global/HK version) via WondaMobile, good choice or risky? USA

• Upvotes

I’ve been on Samsung for a couple years now, S25 Ultra and now the S26 Ultra, and I’m thinking about jumping to the Honor Magic 8 Pro. The one I’m looking at is on WondaMobile, listed as Global Version (Hong Kong model).

I've never ordered from them before so I could use a voice of reason here. Part of me is worried I’ll end up with some random unit that gives me pop-up ads, etc. or that it’s really the Chinese version with a different label on it. I need it to be the real global version since I’m in the US but spend a few decent stretches in Europe every year.

Is there anything comparable I should be looking at instead, maybe the Air version? No horrible stories about WondaMobile, compared to Trinity it seems. Appreciate any input.

Thoughts on when to upgrade?

• Upvotes

Hello, it's my first post on this subreddit, my question is: when should I upgrade redmi note 9 pro 128/6?

For me I think there is nothing that makes me need to upgrade, I have a custom rom with android 15 so updates are not a problem, I don't play really demanding games, and my area doesn't have 5g coverage.

The phone itself works fine, I've had it since january 2021, and the only benefits I see in upgrading is 120hz (which I would really like) , and a better battery life (this one is not too bad but still not new).

As for what I would look for in a new phone, I would like for the bootloader to be unlockable, 120hz, 512gb , and a good feature would be , but is not necessary, a curved display

What are your thoughts?

OPPO Reno15 Pro Mini vs OnePlus 15R?

I've been using a Samsung A52 for almost 5 years and can't decide between these two phones. My priorities are battery life, minimal heating, stable software, smooth multitasking, and good cameras (mainly nature, landscapes, and occasional videos). I don't really play games. I also want a phone that stays smooth and reliable for another 5–6 years. Which would you recommend, especially based on real-world experience?

us Phone for my wife

I'm looking for a midrange phone, max 500 euro (600 euro if really needed), for my wife. Her pixel 7a is broken and we need a new one.

We have a toddler, so the photos/video's are important for us. 256 gb storage seems like a good fit. She only uses her phone for the basic (social media) apps etc...

Any good ideas? Having a hard time to pick "the best" one for her needs/budget.

I am not a gaming guy, i do play CODM sometimes(once in a year), but ig any good mid range phone can handle it not a big deal ig

i am confused in battery
s25 has 4000
oppo has 6200

oppo is eveything, but its just it dont have raw export thing, its just give you proccesed ready to post images and stuff

US Phone for social detox

I’m looking to buy a relatively cheap android smartphone for a tech detox that I’m doing, all of the iOS social block applications are too easy to bypass without paying a subscription, so am looking into the customization that Android offers. I also need to be able to use certain apps for work so I can’t just buy a flip phone.

I deliver food on the side so need a phone that has a reliable GPS, and also need messages/calls to come in reliably so am leaning away from just getting a shitty Walmart phone. Would also be nice to have a decent camera as well. ~$200 US is the absolute upper limit. I’ve already been suggested getting some kind of refurbished Google Pixel.

Help my friend switch from Iphone

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a new phone for my friend. They were using an Iphone 13 and they want something new.

Their criteria are :

  • 600€ max
  • Near iphone photo quality (I have a Fairphone 6 and we are looking for something like that quality wise)
  • Ai free or at least Ai that can be fully disabled

Thanks :)

PS : I talk to them about fairphones but they find them ugly so if you have tips to decorate the case or something I take that too!

Australia Moving on from the world of Pixel

Howdy all,

I have been a Pixel user for years going from a Nexus to a Pixel 7 Pro to a Pixel 8 pro XL (I like the larger phone). I've been with the google hardware line for years and was almost going to go for a Pixel 11 Pro XL.

Looking at the money vs what you CAN buy with Oppo and One Plus, I question if I should be sticking with the Pixels or if it's time to move on...and if I was to move on, how easy would it be to move on with regards to all my software/backups/etc.

Please advise me oh wise ones. Also please note I'm from Australia

EU Searching for a good smartphone for around 200 euros

Hi, I'm currently searching for a replacement for my Realme 8 4G.

My requirements are: 5G, NFC, at least 8GB RAM and 128GB of memory, screen type which is less likely to have burn-in in little time, 120Hz, recent system version, good major update policy. Let me know if there are some "sacrifices" to be made to get better deals or some other recommendations. Thank you.

My research as for now has given me this options:

  • Samsung A16 5G: 220 euros, 4/128, 5G, Amoled 60Hz, Android 14, 6 years of major updates
  • Motorola g67 5G: 230 euros, 8/256, 5G, Extreme Amoled 120Hz, Android 16, 3 years of major updates
  • Oppo A6 5G: 230 euros, 8/256, 5G, IPS HD+ 120Hz, Android 15, 4-6 years of major updates (I found conflicting informations on this one)
  • Oppo A6 Pro 5G: 295 euros, 8/256, 5G, Amoled 120Hz, Android 15, major updates same as before
  • Honor 400 lite 5G: 230 euros, 8/256, 5G, Amoled 120Hz, Android 15, 5-6 years of update (according to EU regulations?)

Which phone to buy for my mother?

My mom's phone died, and she needs a new one. I have 3 offers, and I can't decide which one is the best deal.

Motorola G77 + Philips Air Fryer for €77

Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G for €94

Redmi Note 17 Pro + Air Purifier for €145, with a free screen replacement within 24 months and a free battery replacement within 36 months.

These prices are possible because of the discounts I get with my mobile plan.

I'd keep the air fryer or air purifier for myself and give my mom the phone.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro comes with two other gift options (a heater and a vacuum cleaner), but I don't need either of those. The air purifier is the best option for me out of the three, but considering everything I've heard about the phone, it might actually be a downgrade compared to the Redmi Note 15 Pro.

The air fryer would be the most useful to me, too, but I don't know if it's worth choosing the Motorola just to get it, considering how it compares to the other two phones. Plus, the Motorola doesn't come with a charger.

The Redmi Note 15 Pro would be the best option if the other two phones didn't come with free gifts as well, so I'm really not sure what to do. 🫠

Eu Help needed for mid tier

Current phone: Galaxy A14

Country: Itay, Eu

Prefered Range: 300-400 euros (may consider higher)

Use: daily use (also socials and games), sometimes coding and app testing (easy level)

Desired features: 8-12Gb Ram, 256+SD (or 512 without SD) and possibly a nice battery.

Secondary: good camera.

I'm considering buying a new smartphone for my daily life and I tend to use it a lot for my tests and to pass time in my day. I wanted to remain in the range, but for a big discount I could consider to pay more (if I got to see any top tier under 600 euros I would consider buying it even if it would be more than my starting budget). I already have a huge SD so I would prefer to use it than to pay for a bigger memory.

I found a "REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G 12+256GB" in discount in my range and thought about buying it since it was better than my current phone in any means (ram, memory and battery) but changed idea when I saw it was without SD. I tend to have a lot of apps and use a lot of memory so I found 256gb without wxpansion not enough.

I was considering "Samsung Galaxy S26 FE 8+256" (right now at 640 euros) and "Samsung Galaxy A57 8+256" (right now at 450 euros) since I also use a Galaxy for work and I find quite good with the line, but I'm not sure about the prices or there could be better options at the same prices (also haven't controlled if those are SD compatible).

Any advice for those or other models?

Pick a phone for me

Some of the options i've been looking at:
Redmi K90
Oneplus Ace 6
Redmi Turbo 5 max
Honor 500
Nothing 4a

Mostly looking for a phone with a good battery life, durable build, and a decent main camera with mostly accurate colours and contrast, without the overly processed look whenever there is a person, uw and front cam can be whatever.
