The hardest part of working in a parts department is keeping your mouth shut about lazy service writers who refuse to do their job.

Bulk brake fluid

How do you guys control your inventory on bulk brake clean? We are going to a Wurth 55 gallon drum with refillable cans. I need to come up with a system where I can manage how many cans are being used. The drum will be out in the shop not in parts. Thanks

Moving states

I’m thinking about moving states (Indiana) to be closer to family. I currently work for a ford dealership, and I’d prefer to stay with what I know, but I know that isn’t a 100% thing when moving far away. In your guys opinion, what’s the best brands to work for? Thanks!

GM 63R and 63A filters

Any GM parts people know what the heck we're supposed to do about the 63R and 63A filters for the 3.6 LGX motors? Both filters are on backorder, no one around will sell and our rep doesn't have a answer for us. Last I checked we weren't supposed to use the 63F filters on the heavy duty 3.6L engines.

CDK how to turn on autofill on special orders?

I’m at a new store with a problem of when SOR are scanned they do not automatically sell to the RO or invoice they are assigned to, the counter people have to manually do it however that slips through all the time so I’m trying to at least fix that one part of the larger issue. Is it something I can do myself or do I have to contact CDK support for this

Xtime Users

For xtime users, does anyone else's service department send quotes back as if they have sold jobs on them but in reality everything is still blue/unsold not green (sold) or red (declined) or does my service department have absolutely zero clue how to use this dogpile of an electronic quoting system?

Nissan Parts Warranty Question

Is there a published document that outlines the terms of the Genuine Nissan Parts warranty and its limitations?

I have a customer that purchased a set of Value Advantage wiper blades from my dealer, and has gotten 4 sets of wiper blades replacements from us. Is there not a set limit to the number of times someone can request replacement within the 12/12 period?

I exhausted my google-fu and couldn’t find any stipulation of the sort.

Era ignite help.

I’m trying to figure out if there’s a report for declined services on parts that I don’t stock for posting lost sales. I have a report that prints out all the ros and what they declined but then I have to manually go into the RO on the service side and then manually post the lost sales. This is incredibly time consuming but I want these lost sales posted. Any help would be appreciated.

Non-MSO Shop: Receiving to “Parts Director”

I say “parts director” because it would just be a team of me managing me…

I work at an independent shop that does collision and mechanical (not part of a chain). On the collision side I handle receiving, returns, wrong parts, and everything else that comes with parts coming in. I don't post invoices to the CCC files though.
Now the owner wants me to take over ordering for the bodyshop and work with the estimators and production managers. Right now a remote guy handles it, logged into our parts sites and OEM discount accounts under shared logins.
I want the job, but I've only used CCC and OPS/OEC partway and never touched Parts Trader. My GM doesn't know procurement, bodyshop production manager got fired and the estimator left Lexus a week later so nobody's going to train me.

Where should I start? Are there free training videos or guides worth checking out? And how does ordering usually work day to day in a bodyshop?

Would you give the tiny parts their own drawers?

I'm planning some small-parts storage and can't decide where open bins stop making sense. They're easy to scan, but seals, clips and little fittings seem like they'd be easier to keep separated in shallow drawers.

I've been looking through Global Industrial's cabinet options. Before I get carried away with drawer dividers, I'm wondering how annoying drawers are when you're pulling the same few parts all day.

Would you keep the fast movers in open bins and only put the small, easy-to-mix-up stuff in drawers? Where would you draw the line?

Forgot about this post. Appreciate all the input! Didn't expect this many people to be on team drawers lol. The comments about keeping similar-looking parts separated and labeling everything definitely helped.

I think we'll stick with open bins for the stuff we're constantly grabbing and use drawers for the smaller parts that are easier to mix up. We're leaning toward Global Industrial for the drawer cabinets since they have different cabinet sizes and configurations to look through, and I like the idea of being able to organize the smaller stuff without taking up too much shelf space. Still figuring out the layout, but at least I have a better idea of what makes sense now. Thanks again!

Collision link/repair link extra slow

Collision link is soooooo slow today. Whenever I try to get in a quote/order or refresh the main page, it takes a couple minutes to reload. Repair link is a little better, but not much. Anyone else dealing with this today?

Any Parts Managers here that use Procede/Excede?

I'm about 6 months in and would like to use reporting more effectively. I'm not sure how popular this DMS is out there, but curious what reports you folks use, and at what frequency. TIA

GM frame shipping

Hey guys, just a quick question... we normally don't deal with body shops in my area, however, I was just asked to quote out some things on a Silverado. It included the frame, its coming out Lansing... will there be any additional freight charges on this?
