I was supposed to get disbursement on 10/12 but haven’t received anything. My first 8 weeks aid was awarded on time per the schedule. I’ve called the office twice and no one will give me a straight answer. I’ve also emailed my financial aid advisor twice to no avail. Is anyone else having this problem?

Does anyone have an idea when the GI Bill will be paying tuition for those doing the 2 8 week sessions? Or are they waiting till November like they typically do?

I am taking an online English course the second eight weeks. The professor of this course claims that ODU is requiring them to have an AI section in their module for ALL online courses. I did not have any AI modules in my courses last semester, so I am confused on that part.

Additionally, this is AN ENGLISH COMPOSITION CLASS. AI is required - as in I have to talk to an AI chat bot for multiple assignments.

The program they use is “Riff” - which uses generative AI.

What can I do about this??? This is crazy and I am beyond unhappy with this situation.

Hi I'm a part of the fall online semester course And I can't be the only one that's noticed that there's been a couple of assignments that make us use generative AI right? For the first 8 weeks I had a course that had a requirement to use Ai and I asked the teacher if I could do it through canva because it was an infographic and she straight out denied me and said that I have to use AI because we need to learn how to use it ethically and it was either do it with AI or fail.

Now I'm reading the syllabus from my new class in the upcoming 8 weeks and I see that generative AI is in the 70% category of my grade and it's so mind-boggling that these are 300 level classes and I have to either use generative AI or fail?? It's 90° in October and they want to fail me for not wanting to use Ai??

I'm gonna see if I can drop the class because this is ridiculous.

This 2nd 8 weeks, I will be taking pre calculus, I was wondering if anyone who has already took let me know how the class and exams are going, I think for this class I’ll take my exams in person.

I am going to be at ODU next fall as a transfer student from PVCC. since I will transfer in as a junior, i was wondering if there are any special housing options open to me that are both on or off campus.

another question I have is that is it worth it to purchase/rent a propriety off of campus for any reasons.

Does anyone think we’ll be getting a refund this week? Please do not respond. If you are not taking a week courses this whole week course thing is really weird. As far as response. I would’ve just got the whole thing in the summer. I did just have a negative balance since yesterday.

Has anyone had their financial aid disburse today? My account was at a negative balance a week ago, then now it’s back to showing a balance. It seems my expected financial aid “disappeared” from my student account. My fin aid account says should be disbursed on 10/12 but still no email or any update on touch net. Posting here to see if anyone has insights or going through the same??

My account said I had a balance which I found weird as that’s never happened to me, I look and the commonwealth grant I accepted is completely gone and they are saying I owe $500 🫩. I got it the first 8 weeks so why would it disappear from the 2nd 8 weeks? This whole new 8 week course thing feels like a sick joke at this point.

It seems there's not much info about mechE at ODU besides a couple of old posts and a couple of people who go there online. What's been your experience there and how difficult/rigorous are the classes? (Understanding its an engineering degree and they are generally rigorous)

Im a transfer so I've taken all my math and physics classes so I would be starting at statics once I start my semester. My buddy who did ODU online is a 4.0 student but did poorly on statics and dynamics.

Any info/experience is appreciated TIA!

Edit: for a baseline every math class I've taken previously for calculus 1-3 I've gotten As and diff eq same. Physics 1 and 2 i got a B. In case you can use those as a comparison for difficulty

I’m taking CYSE 250 at ODU, and honestly, learning to code for the first time has been really difficult for me.
Sometimes I feel like I was supposed to take a prerequisite class before this one because a lot of the things the professor explains are said so casually, almost like we’re already supposed to know them. Meanwhile, I’m sitting there trying to understand what’s going on.
What makes it worse is looking around at my classmates. I see people actually writing code while the professor is talking, and I’m still trying to understand the basics. I can’t even write a single line of code on my own yet, and it makes me feel like I don’t belong in the class.

I’ve talked to a couple of people who are into tech and asked if they ever felt this way when they first started coding. They told me they didn’t, and that they started learning to code in college, too. Hearing that honestly made me feel even more stupid because I’m struggling with something that seems to come naturally to other people.

I know everyone learns differently, but it’s hard not to compare yourself to others when you’re surrounded by people who seem to understand everything.
For anyone who took CYSE 250 or struggled with coding when they first started, did you ever feel this way? How did you get through it? I could really use some advice because right now, I’m questioning whether I’m cut out for this.

final exam in 3 days and no matter how much i study i still don’t feel ready. class average on the midterm was a 41% with no curve. forcing us to use the books method to solve while giving limited examples of how to apply each rule. i remember when i was young and thought you went to college to LEARN.

So, I'm a remote grad student and have one of the biggest assignments due by midnight Sunday (the norm). As I'm finalizing it, I just noticed in the ODU daily announcements that we are apparently on fall break now? Do we just not get breaks as online students? Can I assume Thanksgiving will be the same, with work due that week in my next 2nd 8 week courses?

I'm nearly done so it doesn't really matter now, I'm just a little annoyed that in addition to twice as much work in half the time, we lost a break, too. My 16-wk spring semester course last term was light during spring break, and I miss that pacing.

Hey guys, looking for some input on these classes. I enrolled in the 8-week format and will start in the 2nd half of the fall semester. Quick background: I have an associate's in applied cybersecurity, so I was wondering whether these classes need to be taken in a full semester or can be done in an 8-week format.

ENGL 715/815 is running a usability study for a new dedicated Canvas course. It is being developed as a reference for the English PhD program to consolidate information from the PhD handbook. We are looking for new PhD students in their first 18 credit hours of the program who may be interested in trying out the site and providing feedback. 

In this usability test, you will be asked to complete several short tasks using the English PhD program canvas shell. I am wondering what classes you all recommend on taking that are the easiest and simplest.

For context, I will be graduating next semester and only have 2 remaining classes for my major. For my scholarship, I have to maintain full time status with a 12 minimum credit hour per semester.

Looking on taking two of the easiest classes possible to meet this requirement. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

ODU is telling me they can’t apply my $1,161 credit to my past-due balance because of federal financial aid rules but that credit isn’t even from federal aid. I also have another $4,000 credit sitting on my account. These credits were intended to fix my balance, yet I’m being told I need to pay $3,965.28 in full to remove the hold. I don’t want a refund. I want my account corrected. Make it make sense. This is the silliest, goofiest shit ever. I cannot wait to finish next spring. ODU can kiss my ass.
