Does the college matter

I'm a veteran returning to school, but does it really matter where I get my bsn as long as it is accredited?

I've been accepted into Charleston southern pre nursing and I've applied to UNC charlotte, Clemson, and a handful of other schools in sc/nc.

so does it really matter at the end of the day which one I go too. all of them are accredited both nationally and regionally

"Everyone Fails Cardiac" Question

So my school has used the line "everyone fails the cardiac exam" (at this school that is definitely true and ive spoken to many people who have attended previously (over the course of years since a lot of the students that went to my college end up where I am currently working I have a good network of people that have done this college's program anywhere from 1-15 years ago).

We just had our med surg cardiac exam and everyone bombed it (class average was 70). Now I don't think the whole everyone fails thing is entirely true. Is cardiac difficult, absolutely. Is this exam maybe lower than normal across the board, probably. I find it hard to believe that in every nursing program students are getting anywhere from 30-70 on the cardiac exam though and I believe the professor and the specific questions chosen are the problem.

For anyone who is at the point where they've taken the cardiac exam or are already done with the program, can you shed any light on this? My professor even said the exam scores were "lower than expected" but that we were "just nervous this time around" (they always find a way to turn it on us without taking any responsibility at all and it's infuriating). Am I wrong for feeling like the problem is this professor and that this exam is bullshit and has been for many years?

Any advice or thoughts are appreciated, thank you

2027 fall cohort application

• Upvotes

Hey guys. I have been on this sub for more than a year. Learned a lot from here! So right now, I am only taking micro and physio at the same time and aiming for both A’s. My overall GPA is like 3.90( plan to take more credits to bring that up a bit, the only one that I got a B was English 1 lol), science GPA: 4.0, by the end of this fall I will have finished all my pre reqs for most the Cal state BSN/ cc ADN programs. I plan to take teas test next January and aim for at least 90 ( so I will not be able to apply to Cal east bay since it is due on 11/30), I am bilingual, CNA certified, had three months of full time experience at a SNF, first gen college student and so on.
And also I am located in the Bay Area, CA
So the schools I plan to apply to are:
Sonoma university
San Jose University
Sacramento University
Fresno university ( which is 2.5 year long)
CC: Sacramento city college
San Joaquin Delta College, Stockton
Modesto Junior College
Considering the Cost of living and also how competitive it is to land a new grad residency job in the bay( from NewgradRn subreddit), I plan to leave the bay but still wanna stay and gain my RN experience in Cali, I would prefer BSN but some of the programs are 3y long so I would rather go to an ADN and start working one year earlier in case I don’t get into any. My ultimate goal is to land a hospital job.
But I am also so scared since I am a new immigrant. And English is not my native language( excuse my grammar mistakes)😭
I am wondering what you guys think, What is the chance of getting in? is there any thing I am missing? I appreciate any honest advice!

Will I pass my drug test?!! NSFW

Hi everyone!

Okay so, I quit smoking September 14 after being a chronic smoker for years. I’ve recently started getting faint negative lines on my at home drug tests specifically for thc obviously lol.

I’m starting nursing school in January and my 10 panel drug screen and background check are due December 1. Even though I have time, I really want to get everything done ASAP lol.

Has anyone passed a lab drug test with a line this faint, or should I wait longer? Any advice or comments would be appreciated :)

And no I don’t plan on smoking again it was a college thing lol.

Experience/insights with the LACC nursing program?

Hi, I've just submitted my TEAS and applied for the Spring nursing program at LACC. I know it's lottery based so it's a long shot I'll even be accepted but because I'm a mom to two kids I need to start planning now. I was wondering what did your class schedule look like? I'm trying to get a feel for what the first semester will look like time wise as in typical start time for class and end time for the day. Any another anecdotes, good or bad about the program I'd appreciate!

Nursing requirements

Hey guys I recently got accepted to MCs nursing program and they have a health requirements like physical and titers that we have to submit. I currently don't have a health insurance. I am trying to get one but the open enrollment period starts on Nov 1st and the insurance starts on January 2027. I've to submit the required documents by December 30 and I was wondering if anyone is going through the same thing? I'd be fine to pay out of pocket but it's a little expensive. I'd like to hear your suggestions

Failed 3 nursing exams

I feel so dumb, I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m in my first semester of nursing school only 9 weeks in and I’ve already failed 3 exams. Passing score is 76% and I also need a flat 100% on med math. I got a 92%. The rest of my class is so smart, they know everything and seem to be passing every exam. I feel like the odd one out, with imposter syndrome. Sometimes I wonder how I even got in the program. I study the same way everyone else is. I do great in sim labs, check offs and all of my assignments! But when the exams come around I choke!! I can only fail 1 more and I have 4 more exams before the semester ends…

Bridge programs

I’m very conflicted and don’t know which program to do. I’m an LPN trying to bridge to RN, I have majority of my prereqs already done just need a&p2 & microbio. I’m wondering if I should transfer schools (currently at a CC) due to not being able to do the program once accepted because I won’t have adequate childcare. I thought about doing an online program but I keep seeing things about it not being accepted in every state when looking for a job. For those that have done the online bridge programs did you have any trouble finding jobs in other states ?

Nursing at UniSC

Hi everyone! ☺️
I was recently studying my Diploma of Nursing at TAFE, but unfortunately, I didn’t really enjoy the learning experience. I’m now considering studying a Bachelor of Nursing Science at UniSC instead.
I was wondering if anyone is currently studying or has previously studied nursing at UniSC, either at the Sunshine Coast or Gympie campus?
I’d love to hear some honest opinions about your experience, including the pros and cons, what the teaching staff are like, and how much support is available for students.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you ☺️

Will i survive nursing

I'm 27 and live in Finland. I've worked in construction for the past few years and I'm now applying to study either nursing or mechanical engineering, starting next year. Nursing keeps pulling me in, but I'm unsure because of my social anxiety.

A bit about how my anxiety works:

One-on-one conversations are mostly fine. I can talk to people and I'm genuinely interested in them.

What gets me is being watched by a group, like presenting or being the centre of attention.

I've worked on it actively for years with exposure, and it's improved, but it's still there.

I also worked as a coaching assistant for a youth football club, which I liked, so helping people isn't new to me.

My questions:

How much does social anxiety actually get in the way day to day in nursing? Is it mostly one-on-one patient contact, or a lot of group situations?

Are there specialties or settings that suit quieter people better? Night shifts, the operating room, ICU, something else?

If you have social anxiety yourself, did nursing make it better (constant exposure) or worse?

Any male nurses here? What's that side of it like?

Hello guys! My books from Elsevier don’t come with ebooks, they only come with online tests. Does anyone have a pdf copy of these two books:

introduction to clinical pharmacology 11th edition by Constance G. Visovsky

And

Foundations and adult health nursing 9th edition by Kim cooper and Kelly Gosnell

AITA I sent a email to my professor’s boss

Hello everyone, I am a first year nursing student at a two year program and now I fear I have done the wrong thing my sending an email to the Dean of Healthcare about my professor.
For context, this is a community college, so the professor I have is the only professor for the cohort I am in. Within the 7 weeks we have been in school, she has cancelled two lectures that were never made up, a unit test that was switched to online proctoring, and two lab sessions + a make-up lab, all in weeks 5, 6, and 7. I and my classmates are growing increasingly worried about what these repeated cancellations are going to mean for our education, so with guidance from my mother I took the initiative to email the dean to bring up my concerns in an empathetic way that focused on my personal worries without assigning blame. At least, I hope that is how it came across. I had several people proof-read it first, since I can be very blunt and completely misread social cues.
Now, I am concerned that I messed up and potentially made whatever situation my professor is going through far worse, but I am truly scared about the lack of instruction and how that will be reflected later on when it matters. I now need validation that I didn’t just make the rest of my nursing school experience terrible. Thanks for any guidance anyone can offer.

Update: The dean responded this morning. She thanked me for bringing the issue to her attention and said she would meet with my professor regarding the issue. She also emailed the professor in the middle of class. Let’s just say I am now glad I did not go to her. After coming back from a break, she started class by saying that she is now being pulled into a meeting by the dean because of a student’s concerns. Real professional behavior right there. Then further explained how the student in question should have come to her, rather than getting the dean involved. After turning away from us she said, “If they have a problem with my teaching they should have just come to me.” I was told this later on by my sister as I have poor hearing. She spent the rest of class barely lecturing because she could not refrain herself from being snarky and giving everyone attitude. I hope the dean remains professional and does not disclose my name as the student who complained otherwise, I fear for the remainder of my eduction.

Galen students: a study resource that’s helped at my campus

Hey fellow Galen students! NurseArk is built by a Galen student and offers lessons you can work through at your own pace, practice questions, and mock exams.

More than 40 students at my campus use it, including me. It’s helped us so much.

You can try a sample lesson at https://nurseark.me and see whether it covers what you’re studying. If it helps, pass it along to a classmate or your study group!
