Happy/Funny Favorite being-a-parent song?

• Upvotes

There’s a song I love called Don’t Turn The Page (DoGoodDad), and it’s a dad singing about his baby boy growing up. Made me cry the first few times I heard it

What’s yours?

Honorable mention to Hold My Hand, Daddy (Zander Met’n Z)

Feeding Baby trying to hold bottle but can’t making feedings so hard

• Upvotes

My 6 month old baby has been battling a bottle/feedings aversion since month 4. We do the Rowena Bennett feeding method and it seems to help. Some days more than others.

Recently she’s been grabbing the bottle and shoving it in her mouth. She bites the nipple usually when doing this and I literally can’t physically win the battle of not letting her shove it in her mouth. Sometimes I try letting her drive and just help aim the bottle which doesn’t work either. I’ve given her toys which she then tries to also shove in her mouth. She also smacks the bottle so hard sometimes and depending on how hard I’ll end the feed.

Anyone have any advice? I feel like I should just go hard on teaching her to use a straw cup at this point and try to give up on the bottle since it’s basically been torture since 4 months old. 😞

Babies Being Babies Music together ? Thinking of pulling my kid

• Upvotes

Has anyone been disappointed in this class? I find the instructor is notorious for forgetting the lyrics. The last class she dumped instruments on the ground and didn’t even sing to the song. I don’t know what I’m paying for right now? Are my expectations to high?

Feeding Spit up doesn’t do the waterfalls justice

• Upvotes

Making this post just to make sure I’m not the only one lol. My 3.5 month old spits up a lot. I would say I’m changing his outfit at least 6 times a day. I don’t use burp cloths anymore, I use muslin blankets. He soaks through muslin bibs like it’s his job. The bibs are honestly just a delay so he doesn’t soak his clothes as quickly. He is fully formula-fed. Doesn’t matter how many oz are in the bottle, he spits up the same. I thicken his bottles with oatmeal cereal at home (per Pediatrcian recommendation), and we give enfamil added rice when we’re out and about. Doing those two things has helped significantly. I do a load of laundry a day because I would run out of blankets and bibs if I didn’t.

When people say their baby spits up, I can’t even agree. It’s not spit up, it’s waterfalls out of his mouth.

Illness/Injuries Injury at daycare- finger laceration involving bone & How to handle

• Upvotes

Hi all. We have a 14 MO girl that just started daycare 2 weeks ago as I took a new job.

Got a call today that she sustained a finger laceration on the joint involving the bone when her finger got shut in a door by a teacher. It was an accident, and the teacher seemed pretty shaken up when she called but we got taken to the hospital by EMS because it’s pretty bad.

How do you handle things like this? We’re obviously new at this whole thing. I can’t up and quit my job to stay home with her, and there’s no other daycare’s in the area that are currently accepting new babies her age.

Just kind of had a loss and looking for some direction

Thanks, everyone

Babies Being Babies How to deal with purple crying?

• Upvotes

Our baby is only about 5 weeks old. We’ve only had the slightest taste of purple crying, but we’ve been thoroughly warned about it. I would love to hear some tips on how to manage it when it really starts/peaks.
We’re breastfeeding, and that’s a pretty good catch-all for any baby woes so far. I’ve also heard of people doing chamomile baths (baby seems to like baths in general), stepping outside, and going for drives. Anything else I could try when we’re in the thick of it would be greatly appreciated! Fill my toolbox!

Sleep Would love some advice- baby a catnapper

• Upvotes

I have a 4-month-old baby girl who has been taking only catnaps (20–30 minutes, rarely 40 minutes) since she was 4 weeks old.
Around 2 months, I started using a yoga ball to help her fall asleep because getting her down for naps was becoming so difficult. She sleeps in her crib for both naps and bedtime.
I’ve been following the Huckleberry app for wake windows, while also trying to pay attention to her sleepy cues. Sometimes she wakes up crying after a short nap and is really difficult to calm down, even when I pick her up. I wonder if she’s still tired but struggling to connect her sleep cycles.
She usually takes 5 or more naps a day because they’re so short and she gets tired again quickly.
Night sleep has generally been good, although the last two weeks have been a bit more unpredictable. On good nights, she goes to bed around 8 p.m., wakes twice to feed, and then wakes around 5:30 a.m. I usually have to help her settle back to sleep until 6:30–7 a.m.
Honestly, I’m exhausted from spending so much time trying to get her to sleep, especially for naps. 🥲
For those of you whose babies were also catnappers, when did your baby start connectingi sleep cycles and taking longer naps? Did it happen naturally with time, or did you do anything that helped?

Out and About When did you start taking your baby to activities or classes?

FTM here! My baby is almost 3 months old, and I’m looking for fun things we can start doing together during the day.
I’ve been looking into baby story times at the library, baby gym classes, music classes, etc., but I’m not sure if she’s still too young for some of these.
At what age did you start taking your baby to activities like these? Did you feel like they actually enjoyed or benefited from them at that age?
I’d love to hear what everyone did with their babies around 3 to 6 months old, especially activities that help with development and getting them out of the house a little more!

Feeding If you didn’t do baby led weaning, how did you progress in feeding your LO solids?

did you start with purées and move on from there or did you offer solid or semi solid foods straight from the start? if you started with purées, how long until you moved on from them? my LO is 8 months old and we started solids around 4 months. I started with purées and then around 6 months tried to introduce some more solid foods but his chewing skills weren’t the best and obviously we are all afraid of our child choking so we went back to purées for awhile but I gave him teething sticks so he could chew on something that was a little easier to swallow since they get really soft and mushy.

now he’s 8 months so we have moved on from purées because I feel like his chewing skills have imp but obviously still has a ways to go. I’ve been giving him finger foods and at first he did really well with taking small bites and chewing but now he’s just wants to take big bites and although he does chew, sometimes it’s too much and it gets stuck and he thankfully coughs it up. We are practicing the pincer grasp and he does okay but obviously that’s another skill he will need to continue developing. I find it a little easier to break up the food into small pieces and give him one piece at a time.

i know he’s my child and I can feed him however I want, but I’m not doing him a disservice by not letting him manage his entire food intake by himself right? I know it’s all skills he needs to learn but I just worry about him having a choking inciden.

Medical Advice CMPA & daycare & massive blowouts

18 month old dealing with CMPA, daycare is aware of this allergy but still constantly feeds him dairy for almost every meal. Aren’t these meals all CMPA unfriendly? Never had a problem with blowout diapers until recently where daycare is feeding dairy heavy meals, becoming very frustrated because of this. I’m assuming he’s also in some kind of pain if his blowouts are this bad. Blowouts are complete liquid and just pours out the top and sides of diaper. He also had a bought of dermatitis that I would assume is from the uptick in dairy

Breakfast : rice and strawberry yogurt Chex cereal

Lunch: chicken tacos with shredded cheese

Snack: muffin

Childcare Has anyone hired a high schooler to help with their baby after school?

FTM here, getting ready to go back to work when my baby turns 3 months old.
I work from home and my job is pretty flexible. I don’t have many calls, and most of my coworkers are moms, so everyone is pretty understanding. However, there are usually one or two days a week when I really need to focus and get a lot of work done.

I’m considering hiring a responsible high schooler to come over for a few hours after school to help with the baby while I’m still home working.

Has anyone done something similar with a baby around 3 to 6 months old? How did it work out?
One of my biggest concerns is making sure my baby is getting enough attention, interaction, and age-appropriate stimulation throughout the day. We’re avoiding screen time, and I don’t want her missing out on important developmental activities just because I’m juggling work and motherhood.

I’m also really curious how other WFH moms are managing this. What are you doing throughout the day to make sure your baby is getting the developmental attention they need while staying home with you? Do you follow any sort of routine, plan activities, or just go with the flow?
Would love to hear what has worked for everyone, whether you’ve hired extra help or are managing both on your own!

Childcare Baby started daycare. I get like 4 hours with her at night. How do I cope🥲

I’m a first time single mom, so I have to work full time. I definitely couldn’t be a stay at home mom even if I had the opportunity to be. I’d love to be able to just work part time, but even without the daycare expense, it’s not feasible.

My baby has done WONDERFUL since starting daycare and she goes to a great one. I get updates on every feed, diaper, if she gets moved to a new room, and photos throughout the day. Since I was on maternity leave and home alone most of the day, she got very attached to me. She’s also young so of course she will prefer mom but once she became more alert she would not tolerate being held or even looked at by my family, which got really hard for me as a single parent.

But I work 7-3, and after work I go to the gym (they are in the same strip so no drive time. I don’t stay long, 45 minutes max. And the daycare is less than 5 minutes from there. I get to her around 4, but she goes to bed at 8. If I skipped the gym, I’d get only an extra hour with her, but I need to exercise since I am a competitive athlete. Most workouts I can do at home, but I need the weights and some machines at the gym.

I’m off work Tuesdays and Saturdays, but I still take her for about a half day on Tuesday so that way I can get things done around the house without worrying about it and get some time to doomscroll. Plus I want to keep her on a routine.

I play with her at night, but most of the time is spent with her last 2 feeds of the day, giving her a bath, and she takes a nap. She gets roughly 8-9 hours at night, but doesn’t sleep much at daycare at all, sometimes only an hour. (Not their fault, other crying babies in the room, etc). So she takes a pretty long nap in the evening as well.

I just miss her and most Saturdays there is always something to do. Some get together or something and I love spending time with my family and I love them being able to play with her now but I just want to have more time with her.

TL;DR. My baby started daycare and has been thriving but I have to work full time and I miss her and evening time is spent with feeds, bath, and nap basically

Feeding Solids

My baby is 9 months old. Have been giving her solids since she was cleaned by her ped at 6 months. I expose her to a variety of foods and textures but she still barely eats. I give her 2 meals a day. Breakfast and lunch and she may just take 3-5 bites of anything on her plate and be done. When did your baby actually start to develop an appetite for solids instead of just milk?
(I’m aware that milk is still primary nutrition and food before 1 is just for exploration)

Feeding Feel Like I'm Doing Everything Wrong with Feeding my 11 month

My LO just turned 11 month and he's been a fussy eater from the start of baby led weaning. He eventually settled down to drinking these Serenity Kids pouches that we got and has been drinking these as meals every day. He will be whiny and turning a lot with both high chairs that we got to the point we have to keep entertaining him with books/toys/Ms. Rachel for every meal. I'm so worried this will become a habit in the future but every time we don't entertain him he will cry to the point a lot of tears and red face. I'm really clueless on what to do at this point to have him finish a meal without having a meltdown.

Pee/Poop I’m about to lose my mind — in-between diaper sizes

My 8-week old is in between newborn and size 1 — and has been producing a volcanic sized blowout EVERY TIME SHE POOPS. Every single time. I’m about to lose my damn mind. We‘ve tried Pampers, Costco brand, and Huggies size 1 diapers to no avail. (Blowouts on blowouts on blowouts.) We went back to the newborn size (Huggies), same thing. We‘ve tightened the size 1 diapers, pulling the tabs as close together as possible, and we always make sure the gussets are pulled out. I’m on my way to Costco to buy puppy pads ... but that doesn’t actually solve the blowout issue, it just helps us from having to wash the Baby Bjorn for the millionth time this week.

How did y’all get through this? Is there a good in-between diaper size brand? I will try ANYTHING.

Feeding Have to go dairy free

So the pediatrician did a stool test and turns out my little guy is dairy intolerant. I need to cut out all dairy. I know the obvious things to cut out but I saw that even beef contains the same protein that can upset tummies. Anybody else know of some foods that I should cut out besides the obvious ones?? Things that made you go “I would have never thought of that”

Also, any meal ideas would be super helpful! This is going to be a huge change and I feel lost on what I can even eat 😭

I tried searching similar threads, but I guess I didn’t use the right “search words” so not much came up.

Lastly, once you cut out dairy, how soon after did you notice a change with your baby? My baby has HORRIBLE gas and won’t sleep because of it. So just looking for a rough timeline

Feeding 7 day old cluster feeding

Hi all , I checked the sub before posting this and could not find for someone this age . My baby girl is 7 days old today and from the morning she only wants to feed and be held . Everytime she naps on the breast I try to move her to the bassinet and she starts to cry and then the boob again . This has been going on the entire day now . Can 7 day old babies already begin to cluster feed and contact nap or do I contact my midwife or go to ER ? Any advice or words of encouragement are welcome ! TIA🙏

Feeding Bottle/ formula transition

My son is 10 months old so I’m starting to look at how we should transition off formula and bottles. My issue is everywhere says formula first, but that would leave my son drinking 3-4 milk bottles exceeding the daily recommended amount of milk. I know it’s going to take time to get him off bottles because he uses them to fall asleep. He’s already a terrible sleeper so this is all giving me so much anxiety

Toddlerhood Toddler costume ideas no hat?

My 18 month old suddenly hates wearing anything on her head or in her hair. I got her a lion costume for Halloween but now I don’t think she’ll keep that head piece on. Any ideas for a hat/head piece free costume that is still cutesy? She is screen free so she doesn’t have any characters or anything that she knows/likes. So far all I can come up with is a ghost. Kinda boring maybe? I was hoping to get one of those fluffy/stuffed costumes since she’s still young enough to not really have a big opinion on what I put her in. TIA!

Happy/Funny First baby group

Yesterday I took the small one (10 weeks) to my first baby group activity at library just to see and super impressed with how well the toddlers all played next to each other / with each other.

Mine was significantly the youngest and only non-mobile but we had a couple other crawlers and a 9 month old walker (which was very amazing) but it was a real joy seeing the kids clap and dance along to teacher.

Also managed social anxiety and talked to a few of the moms (still hard to do as sahd)
