Starting my streak today, please read this

Aoa everyone,

I need some advice. When I was a kid I stumbled onto masturbation by accident. I had no idea what it was, it just felt good, so I kept doing it.

It was only when I got older that I found out it's a major sin. For the last 2 years I've been trying to quit. I became a practicing Muslim about a year ago, alhamdulillah. Before that I hardly prayed, I'd just read the Quran, but now I pray regularly.

The thing is, I've actually made progress. I can get through all of Ramadan without doing anything or watching anything. But then out of nowhere a thought pops into my head and I just can't stop myself. After that I go straight to do ghusl because I have to pray.

I'm also addicted to porn, but honestly that one's way easier to leave. Masturbation is the one I can't beat, no matter how badly I want to.

Has anyone been through this? What actually helped you? Please advise, JazakAllah khair.

Progress Update A plan backfired

For context again I’m 39 separated finally after a long battle with my ex. I been going on month long streaks. It has been a ROUGH WEEK without giving tmi. I decided to really stay disciplined and fast today given it’s a Thursday. Not sure why but despite fasting today my mind has been just running away 😭. Crazy I was “ok” yesterday and today fasting my thoughts have been the absolute worst. Please pray for me inshallah 🙏

Advice Request My heart has lost hope

Asalamu Aleykum, Im 16 ans been on this this im 11, my relationship with Allah is strong (I hope so). I pray all prayers in time, i recite quran, i do hifz, i do dhikr and i leave a portion of my allowance as sadaqah. For the past few months, something shifted in me, I no longer feel guilt and I dont know what to do.

I used to cry after everytime I relapse and i would feel extremely guilty, but now it feels like I dont even fight. Its like ill just relapse and do ghusl right after to pray my prayers on time. Its like i dont even care anymore, i have no idea why i suddenly stopped feeling that guilt that got me back stronger. I just dont fight now, as soon as i get an urge, my mind is out and i just relapse and i dont care cause ill do ghusl, and ive veen relapsing daily for a few months. I need help and i have no idea what to do. JazakumAllah

Advice Request How to not give in when hormonal?

As the title states. How to not give in when hormonal? It feels like I’ve given myself a free pass to just relapse and partake in sin when I’m hormonal. It’s not okay, ofc. But it’s so much harder to fight the temptation. Other times I will touch grass, get out, pray, speak to ppl etc.

Advice Request Addicted for 8 years now and don’t know what to do

I really need help. I’ve been addicted to this garbage since I was 11 years old and I don’t think I’ve gone more then a week or a few days without it since maybe 2 years so far up to now. I’ve really had the idea of quitting recently as I’m getting older and marriage is getting more of a vision into the future than just an idea, I would really love to quit but the longest I’ve gone ever without using was 3 weeks, which I have been able to hit atleast 3 times but each time wasn’t motivated by me it was by something I couldn’t use for at all, like Ramadan or a trip or vacation or something to initiate the streak. I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD since I was a kid but neither me or my parents have been too fond of the idea of taking any type of medicine, as I think I can overcome this and be normal without it, I really hope I can eventually quit this as it’s ruining my life. I’m addicted to my phone and pick it up 100+ times a day, I have an app that blocks scrolling from TikTok and Instagram , (so please don’t tell me to delete them because they could be triggers), it’s gotten to the point where even the thought of quitting or even WRITING THIS POST give me major urges, I don’t think seeing a woman improperly dressed would give me too much of an urge, it’s become scheduled almost. I have constant brain fog and can’t hold a solid idea or thought for more then a minute, I don’t even feel remorse or any type of regret after doing it as I’m completely burnt out, I can’t even cry about anything either which also sucks i also find it extremely hard for me to pray while being focused (sounds dumb I know right) and I just speed right through it, the average 4 rakah prayer takes me a minute to do and I don’t feel fulfilled after it at all, prayer has always felt like a chore to me and it still is now, sometimes I pray 5 times a day (2 days out of the week) and feel good, just to PMO later during the day or the day after and ruin the day or week for me, I’ve tried talking to a sheikh but he just sent me a ruqiyah video and told me to listen to it while I slept, every time I reach out for help or try to quit this addiction I get told the same thing: “oh just get up and do something when you get a urge” or “replace it with a hobby” but it’s easier said then done when this has become something that has more then likely caused irreparable developmental damage to my brain and is hardwired in my daily life. I really do think this addiction knows no religion, as I notice that no matter how good of a Muslim you are, you can fall into this addiction, and I don’t think any amount of prayer or duaa can help you if you truly don’t think you are able to quit ( my situation )

If you couldn’t tell already this is a cry for help, I really hope to hear some opinions from people who have shared addiction time periods similar to mine and or professionals or whoever has some actual advice.
