Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

From 400+ to 199.2, I can believe I managed to make it here just 10 pounds from the goal!

SW: ~410 CW: 199.2 GW: 189.9 6 feet tall

Did it by doing a ludicrous amount of steps, eventually adding in some cycling, weight lifting just enough to not lose too much muscle.

I worry about going back to a “normal” diet since I’m very much an all or nothing type of person where I eat a very restrictive diet or I eat all the food in the world that makes me happy. It’ll definitely be an adjustment and if anyone has any tips for transitioning after reaching maintenance, let me know!

Weight loss Lost 100 pounds in one year. Couple of things I’m dealing with now

Post image
93 Upvotes
  1. My butt looks like a shar pei dog. All wrinkly and at certain angles my wife’s says it looks like it’s smiling at her. I love her.
  2. Every so once in a while my man boob will slap against my side making me and my wife to ponder, what the hell was that?
  3. For whatever reason I don’t see it and just recently had to accept the weight loss. My clothes were so gigantic on me that even my boss had to pull me aside and tell me that I look like a little kid who put on his dads clothes.

Those are just some of the things I’ve noticed but my overall health has dramatically improved. I walk 5+ miles a day, 100 pounds down and even my sex life has improved. This drug not only changed my life but I honestly think it may have very well saved it.

10mg 16 week update- 53 pounds down! 🥰

Post image
111 Upvotes

16 week update is that I am now down 53 pounds since starting Mounjaro. One of the biggest surprises so far is that I actually enjoy weight training! I always focused on cardio, cardio, cardio. This is the first time I am honestly interested in weights. Don bought a Bowflex xtreme and we started collecting various vintage weights. I am getting stronger and losing weight!

My diet is protein focused with lowcarb vegetables. My current weekly Mounjaro dose is 10 mg.

Is anyone else working out with weights?

💪

2.5mg Day 1 wish me luck. 42M

42 (m) my doc and I were potentially looking to get on a glp1 for my non alch fatty liver (I ate pretty carelessly in my 20s and most of my 30s).

I eat pretty well these days, not a snacker either, definitely run the risk of having too many caloried drinks, but changed that.

Made some changes to diet and such and my blood work camp back significantly worse, so much my doc had a bit of a freak out. I wasn't type 2, but I am now.

She thinks there's some metabolic thing going on and this should make a substantial impact.

Got my mounjaro in today. For some reason I was a little nervous about the stomach shot - but that was unfounded, not even a minor inconvenience with this fancy spring button thing.

2.5 hours later a pretty upset stomach.

Not excited to probably being on this forever, but definitely grateful for forever being longer than it would otherwise :p

T2D For people who do not need to lose weight, but need to control diabetes, did you lose too much weight and question this decision? Further, for those with Cardiac Disease and Diabetes, please share how you eat healthy and get enough caloric intake while maintaining exercise plan.

57 yo Male, Cardiac disease and new diabetic. Was on 2.5 Mounjaro for two injections.

I was on Mounjaro for two weeks, and it rocked me. I went from 171 pounds to 163 pounds in two weeks! I was a bathroom dweller for days 11-13, and I wisely skipped my day 14 injection and am thankfully off Mounjaro. That was three weeks ago. I have since been prescribed 500 slow release Metformin, taking it for past 8 days, and I'm having no issues and it seems to be helping my glucose control, thankfully!!

Of course, getting an MD Endocronologist appointment in the greater DMV area is a six month wait, so I'm relegated to an NP for guidance. My elder (by six years) brother, who is on Mounjaro 4 years, tells me that I will most likely have to get on Mounjaro or another glp again, as he progressed from Metformin to Mounjaro. We both have 24 BMI. I however have cardiac disease, 4 stents over the past ten years, (three large in the LAD just a couple of years back, so there's that) Older brother has no heart issues. I used to exercise four times weekly, I fell off the wagon and have only exercised twice in the past six weeks. I will go the the gym on Saturday and get back in a routine after "healing" from my time on Mounjaro.

I am just wondering, for fellow Mounjaro users who started at a normal BMI, were you able to maintain your weight and exercise regime? Also, how does one serve the Cardiologist's wishes vis a vis the Endocrinologist? This seems to be a balancing act. I have concerns that I won't be able to eat enough nutrition to maintain my weight.

I have PTSD from my two week trial on 2.5 Mounjaro, and I hope I never have to take it, but that might be wishful thinking. I feel like WeakSauce for not being able to handle Mounjaro, but that's my reality. I will be meeting with a dietician next week, and perhaps an Endocrinologist as soon as next March, hopefully. Don't get me started on the state of our medical system (brother is an MD, and the future is depressing!)

Thanks for any feedback.

Does the injection site make any difference in how effective Mounjaro is? Is there a preferred area to inject it?

Health Care Providers Doctor's office refusing to do prior authorization

I've been seeing my bariatric surgeon for about 7–8 years (i had RNY in 2019), and he's been prescribing Ozempic for me for the past 2–3 years. It's no longer working as well for me, and my blood sugar has been all over the place. (before surgery I was diagnosed with diabetes, but my sugars were great and normal until lately)

My doctor prescribed Mounjaro, but now his office is telling me they no longer handle prior authorizations and that I need to go through my PCP instead. My issue is that my PCP didn't prescribe the medication, so why should their office be responsible for the PA? I've even discussed prior authorization issues with my surgeon before, and he gave me the impression that he was willing to handle them (he did before with Ozempic). I'm waiting for a call back from him to see if he would help me out. I feel like this is just the office being a tad lazy.

Has anyone else dealt with a prescribing doctor's office refusing to submit a PA? Is this normal?

Question Food noise

Anyone else not getting rid of their food noise at all But still see great progress on the medication it self?

I have been on these meds for 10 months now and lost 40kgs so far but this thing called food noise never disappeared at all for me. I am now on 12.5mg and got 1 month left on that before i jump up to 15. I have to fight like hell to not cave into these food urges and wished the medication would help with that like it seems to be doing great for everyone here?

Question Four full weeks on 2.5 mg, only down 1.4 lbs (0.65 kg). Anyone else have a slow start?

• Upvotes

I’ve completed four full weeks on Mounjaro at 2.5 mg, and I’m feeling pretty anxious about my progress.
My starting weight was 251.3 lbs (114 kg), and I’ve only lost 1.4 lbs (0.65 kg) over the entire month.
I definitely feel a difference: my appetite is lower, I’m eating noticeably less, and I feel better overall. I also feel less puffy. I’m pretty confident my calorie intake has decreased, although I can’t say for sure that I’m consistently in a deficit.
What’s stressing me out is seeing so many people report noticeable weight loss in their first month. I know Reddit isn’t necessarily representative, but it’s hard not to compare and worry that this won’t work for me.
Has anyone else had little or no weight loss after four full weeks on 2.5 mg? Did things pick up later? What could be affecting the scale even when you’re eating less?
I’d really appreciate any advice or similar experiences. I’m honestly getting in my head about it.

Question Do sealed Kwik pens work after 36hrs 15 degrees travel

• Upvotes

I had carried three MJ 15 mg pens in FRIO pack in overseas flight time of 36 hrs in June 2026. I realised that the FRIO can only maintain around 15-20 centigrade. And even if refrigerated on arrival in 36 hours not sure of medicine effect.

Since I had no choice, I used them for three months July to Sept. Not sure if I was able to inject proper efficient working dose. On ground had neither the symptoms nor any benefits for all this period.

any comments on the experience

News / Information good start on MJ and unique experience

A reverse experience. On start dose of 5 mg got relieved from full inflammation and had no pain in knees that are under knee arthritis for last 20 years. lost three kgs in two months. But come 7.5 mg and 10 mg, the pain started back and now at 15 mg still having pain. No weight loss but have waist line reduction and glucose control that make me continue. often feel going back to 5 mg may give knee relief and start weight loss too.

started MJ in Mar. 2026 and now at 15 mg in oct. 26

any similar experience / suggestions

Question Can I take Mounjaro every 10 days instead of every 7 days ?

I have only two Mounjaro pens left, and I still need to lose around 10 kg to reach my goal. Since the medication is quite expensive, I’m wondering if taking my injections every 10 days instead of every 7 days would help me make my remaining supply last longer.
Would this significantly affect my weight-loss results? Has anyone tried spacing out their doses to save money?
I’d love to hear your experiences!

Question Australia anyone? 5mg $$ Question

I just paid $399 for my first 5mg pen and had to brace myself. I paid $299 for the 2.5mg loading.

Is this normal? I feel like that was a lot of money.

Please and thank you.

Health Care Providers Amenorrhea - 42- onederland- but no periods in 5 months!

Hi everyone! I've been on mounjaro about 8 months now. I had a period when I first started, then another in April. I was so hopeful that things were normalizing but, alas they did not. I've been on Ozempic which didn't work and now Mounjaro a total of about 3 years. SW 247 CW 195. So, I definitely have some underlying hormonal things going on and I am not the best at working out.

Anyway, I went to the doctor, they gave metformin 500mg per day to boost my digestion and insulin response/resistance etc. But still no period. Bloodwork is pretty normal otherwise. TSH and Prolactin are normal. I tried the Progesterone challenge and that was negative. Now i'm on the Estrogen-progesterone challenge. Estrogen 30 days and Progesterone for the last 10 of the 30.

Now I'm just curious if anyone is going through this? I know there's an Amenorrhea channel on here I can post in and I hope to. Thanks.

Side Effects Just started and on week 2

Hi I just started mounjaro and the side effects have been pretty bad. A lot of burping and diarrhea. The burping has slowed down but the diarrhea is so bad it wakes me up in the middle of the night. Does this also slow down and my body is just adjusting?

Long Post Alert!

Someone asked me to share my experience on another post so I thought I should make a separate post detailing what worked for me.

Stats

I started ending of March 2025 at 260lbs / 120kg. I am now 68.4kg. Mid 40s female, 5’7. Lots of health issues like uncontrollable BP which is now well controlled.

I started with Wegovy, but the side effects were too much for me so I switched to mj. I was on a dose 2 months max and went up. I am now at 12.5mg for the last 10 months. When I reach my goal weight of 66kg I hope to try and titrate down. I don’t mind the dose I am on currently. I don’t mind being a lifer on this meds. It has been a game changer for me.

Eating First Year

- For the first year I was very strict with my eating, I couldn’t really eat much anyway. I did mainly low carb foods and didn’t eat any fast foods or sweets.
I ate sweet potatoes, sourdough bread from a good bakery etc mainly clean foods as I couldn’t do full on low carb on mj.

My protein has been moderate although I try to increase as much as I can but it upsets my stomach. I made a lot of Asian style soups using beef rolls and veggies. The beef rolls are quick and easy source of protein.

Fibre is important, I like yellow dragonfruit, half before bed or golden kiwi 2 a day. Cantaloupe, papaya, salads, I just eat what I like and have a taste for that can provide the nutrients I need.

I followed this method because I was afraid this medication would not work for me as I had attempted to loose weight all my life but always failed.

I watched and followed those that were successful and what they did and just followed their method adjusting to suit my life and what I liked eating. I wanted to give myself the best chance to maximize this tool.

Workout

- Initially I started with walking at home, bought a walk pad and would do that for 30 minutes everyday, as I became stronger would increase the time. Walking outside is also good.

When I saw the weight going down, this motivated me and I got a gym membership after about two months on MJ.

- At the gym I started with exercise classes, Tabata, interval training, 3 times a week. HIIT is not for everyone, but I have a mindset where it’s all or nothing, so it worked for me, but Zumba or any workout good too. The aim is to move.

I believe incorporating exercise sped up my weight loss and as the lbs melted weekly it gave me motivation to continue. I was loosing an average or 1-3kg a week. Sometimes I stalled for a week or two, sometimes I maintained but the trend was always downward.

I lost about 80lbs within 8 months.

- Things slowed down a bit when I decided in January to incorporate weight training. Although I had lost a lot of weight, I only went down 1 or 2 pant size. I started at size 20, 2xl-3xl maybe bigger as those were tight.

My stomach was still very large due to inflammation and stress.

I started with 5 mins of rowing machine to warm up and to target arms and shoulders although rowing is full body workout:

- hip thrust machine,
- lat pull down,
- reverse fly,
- ab crunch machine,
- back extension machine,
- leg press and
- torso rotation machine,
- stairmaster 40mins.
Note: with the stairmaster, I started out at a slow pace, shorter length of time and built up tolerance. There was a point I was doing Stairmaster for 90 mins level 6 now I max out at 30 mins level 5.

My routine incorporates alot of core exercises to target my problem areas. I am no expert and my routine is what I put together from watching many people online.

I use machines as my coordination is not great and I was a complete beginner to weights.
Stairmaster is very difficult and not for everyone, but someone I follow saw great results with it so I just tried it. It works for me but incline walking is also good or any other machine.

I did progressive overload, meaning as you get stronger you increase the weights a little to train your muscles.
I also stopped the HIIT classes when I moved to weight training and Stairmaster, also 3 times a week.

The weights and stairmaster made such a great difference and the inches just melted off. I went down 5 dress sizes in 2 months. Inches around my stomach went down too.
I can now fit an 8 Zara pants comfortably. I’m sure I can fit a 6, probably will be tight. Just now trying to figure out how to work on body fat percentage without losing more weight when get to goal.

Since switching to weights, the weight loss slowed down massively. I now have mega stalls but my body is changing everyday.

Eating One Year On

I now incorporate chocolate, I can eat a regular sized Flake a few times a week after a proper meal and not stall. some fast foods like Chick Fil A, Chinese takeout, although I have noticed I stall or add weight when I eat fast foods often, so it is to be an occasional treat 2 to 3 times a month close to my workout days. Cereals that I enjoy, pastries very rarely it breaks me out and gives me heartburn. I also eat rice, potatoes, beans, lentils etc.

I also made a lot of baked oats There are many recipes that don’t use sugar that are very tasty.
I make apple pie baked oats often or sticky toffee baked oats, all very delicious and it doesn’t stall me so I could eat them as often as I wanted.

Dairy also stalls me, so for yogurt my max is 100mg for the day I eat it, or those little single serve pots 2-3 times a week usually two if I want to keep on loosing.

My appetite has increased since strength training which is needed to train effectively. I am happy to be able to eat a bit more.

Water Intake

- I drink 4 litres of water daily; non negotiable or I’ll be constipated. I drink half a gallon which I keep beside my bed first thing in the morning. It helps with bloat and gas.

It’s a chore for me to drink honestly, but the medication is extremely powerful and my body needs the fluids to help It work efficiently. I usually put a few pinches of sea salt into my water bottle.

Cravings or Persistent Hunger

- When I get cravings especially for something sweet, usually means I’m deficient in vital nutrients and need either electrolytes or carbohydrates.
If I give in to the cravings and eat something sweet I find that it increases my hunger and the sweets does not satisfy it. I will keep being hungry.
The solution for me is to take my electrolytes tablets then eat a proper meal with complex carbs and protein before taking a multivitamin for a full day or two. Then the cravings go away.
The hunger could also be acid reflux.

Bloat/Gas and Reflux

- I got bloated earlier on in my journey, I used gas x as needed. Sometimes it’s what I ate that caused it.

- Reflux too which I used over the counter meds to relieve as needed. As I worked out what foods my body would tolerate those side effects subsided.

- For both bloat/gas and reflux the most effective for me is ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother).
A teaspoon or two first thing in the morning or as needed; like if I’ve eaten something oily or rich that doesn’t agree with me, with lots of water. Even helps with a bowel movement.
If the ACV fails to control gas/ bloat, then it’s constipation and I’ll need a good clear out.

Constipation

- For constipation, I take Dulcolax when needed or half to a whole yellow dragon fruit depending on how backed up I am. Mag07 when critical.

Breakouts

- I used to breakout around my chin area a lot and had flair ups whenever I ate anything high in sugar. NAC has helped with that, also eating a proper meal before eating high sugar foods has made a little difference. I’ll still flair up but it will be a rash rather than huge productive pimples.

Night sweats

- I get night sweats periodically. I thought it could be menopause but tests suggested otherwise. I did a little digging on the sub and found other people got them too.
It’s a pain having to wake up multiple times to change and bedsheets soaking wet from sweat but when that does happen I know I’m going to see a good drop on the scale. Usually means I’ll loose weight. If anyone has a solution for this do share. Electrolytes helps a little.

Insomnia/Dizziness

- Usually means I am either low on electrolytes or have not eaten enough or both. A good meal high in complex carbs and protein in the evening usually helps in getting a good nights sleep. Then going forward I will need to pay close attention to my food intake to ensure I am eating enough.

Thirst or Dry Mouth

If I have been getting my fluids in but still thirsty with dry mouth electrolytes usually solves that problem.

Supplements

- Electrolytes when working out or when I get hungrier, weak, tired, aching bones, usually means I need electrolytes.

I take supplements:
- multivitamin,
- probiotics
- evening primrose and starflower oil,
- cod liver oil,
- B12,
- vitamin D,
- K2 D3
- NAC

- I started feeling flat/ anhedonia and read on here to take NAC, it has helped tremendously.
I used to get B12 shots but changed to oral form, seems to work.

B12 for energy levels and NAC are none negotiable for me.

Factors like age, overall wellbeing when starting the medication, lifestyle and personal circumstances will likely determine if these supplements are needed or not.

This is what worked for me, with the support and advice of my doctor. It might seem like a lot but I would rather this than the state I was in when obese with all the health issues.

I am not a healthcare professional, I am just documenting my personal experience. Nothing here should be misconstrued as professional advice, it is not intended as advice. Always check with your doctor before embarking on anything.

Question Want to move to 3.75mg.

I have taken 4 x 2.5mg. I do not want to jump straight to 5mg, as when I did this on ozempic it did not agree with me. I will be getting the kwik pen that is meant for 2.5mg, and I have a bit left in my recent pen (golden dose???).
Has anyone experience doing this? Is it risky? Do I need to get a specific needle head?

Question I'm starting Mounjaro really soon, what's your experience with mental health and the treatment?

To give some context, I suffer from diagnosed dysthymia and generalized anxiety since I was 13, i'm 23 now, i'm medicated with Lexapro/escitalopram and it helps a bit. If you had previous mental disorders and they lasted long like mine, did you had any positive or negative changes with Mounjaro?
