Old Map Old map of colonial Congo.
We were hired to clear out the attic of a school. I couldn't bring myself to throw this in the dumpster. It's an ugly part of my country's history, but history nonetheless and should be preserved. Hand painted map by R. Cremers. From the bit of info i found the map should date back from the 50's - 60's.
Data Map It is hard to find something that fits the shape of the map and is related with the country itself . I guess the Leprechaun for Ireland is ok 🍀

Question Northwest Territory Native Maps?
Hello, not sure if this is the best place to ask but I’m having a lot of difficulty. I’m compiling research for an essay on the history of Indiana and the 1851 Constitution of Indiana. My research has me starting in 1783…. I’ve found countless maps showing the American territories with native tribes seemingly at random, with 0 consistency between maps I can find from the time.
What I’m asking for is any map that can help me visualize which areas which natives controlled. Anywhere between 1783-1814. The more the better. If someone can point me in the right direction or know of a map like this please let me know.
Thank you!
ETA: Tribes include, but not limited to: Pawnee, Shawnee, Iroquois nations, Patawatomi, Miami, Ojibwa etc
ETA2: I found two resources online for this and the comments have wonderful resources as well. I at least wanted to list what I found online.
Library of Congress - National atlas of Indian tribes. There's not really a date I can find but the visualization helps a lot.
https://www.loc.gov/resource/g3701e.ct003648r/?r=0.441,0.108,0.447,0.396,0
'David Rumsey Map Collection' - holy shit this has a lot of maps and a lot of other things like old photos and letters. Lots of good resources.

Article I built Map Canvas - make custom maps with AI prompts, multiple projections, and spreadsheets
Hey guys! I wanted to build a modern map creation studio that feels as easy as Canva, but with genuine geographic superpowers.
Here’s what you can do right in the browser:
- AI Assistant: Type what you want to visualize in plain English (“Color the G7 countries in green and BRICS in orange”), and it styles the map in seconds.
- Real Projections: Switch between Equal Earth, Robinson, Mollweide, Sinusoidal, and standard views in real time.
- Subdivision & District Level: You aren’t stuck with just country borders , you can drill down into individual states, provinces, and districts.
- Custom Borders (GeoJSON): Need a unique map like a city, neighborhood, or custom zone? Just drop in a GeoJSON file to instantly make it a clickable, paintable area.
- Spreadsheet Data (CSV / Excel): Drop in your spreadsheet (sales, population, survey data) and watch the map auto-color itself based on your numbers.
- Heatmaps & Color Gradients: Upload any spreadsheet or create smooth heatmaps with custom color scales.
- Export: Download high-resolution images ready for print, social media, or slides.
It’s completely free to play with:
🔗 mapcanvas.space
Try it out, try breaking it, and let me know what you think!
Exciting updates on the way: thematic mapping, symbolic maps, and interactive charts and graphs are rolling out soon! Application is still under progress, so if you spot any bugs or glitches, let me know

Current Map Each Region has About Half a Billion People
I'm working on a world history project and I want to find a generally standard way of dividing the land area of Earth into 16 regions of roughly equal population along modern political borders¹.
(¹For India and China I'm using sub-national administrative divisions because these countries are too big to fit into single regions.)
I've seen maps with 8 regions (each with 1 billion people) and I'm excited those are similar to mine.
Questions for the Maps Subreddit:
- Can anyone recommend other projects which have done similar work?
- How are historic regions typically delineated in academic discussion?
- What map software do you recommend for visual appeal?
- What map software integrates well with databases and Google Plus Codes?
- Can anyone recommend more standard names for my regions?
- What problems might I run into with the way I'm cutting up East Asia (regions 01 to 08).

Current Map Can you recognize a city from its streets?
I've been exploring data from OpenStreetMap. It's interesting to see the structures of streets and highways, so I made a website where you can explore maps like this: http://whatsthatcity.org/. The site will show you a small section of a large U.S. city. There are no buildings, names, or other features. See what features you can identify. Can you guess the city? Click "reveal" to see what city it is, or refresh to get a new city. (It's a very basic website, and works best on a computer.) Thoughts?

Data Map Jantar Mantar Protests
October 10 was another dark day for our democracy. It was impossible to get to Jantar Mantar as Delhi was turned into a war zone. Absolute horror from watching the events unfold.
I made these maps covering the railway and metro closures that were put in place yesterday to stop people from coming to the CJP-led protest at Jantat Mantar at 10am.
Every metro station inside a 45m walking distance to Jantar Mantar was shut to stop people from gathering.
I will keep covering this from a spatial lens as long as I can.

Data Map [OC] I mapped income around metro stations in cities around the world
Hey, I made this. I run a small daily game (DailyMetro) where you guess a metro station per day. Out of curiosity, I started looking up income around the stops and ended up making maps for 21 cities. These are some of them :)
Each dot is a station. Purple is the lower end of the city's ranking, yellow is the higher end. The bigger dots are the busier stations.
Paris's west-to-northeast split is pretty clear. In London, Gloucester Road comes out above Kew Gardens and Putney Bridge. Seoul's map uses apartment prices, and the most expensive stops cluster south of the Han River.
Something I ran into with New York: several stations have exactly the same income, $250,001. That's the Census reporting ceiling, so the data can't tell you which of those areas actually has the highest income.
Source: official census, income and property datasets. The measures depend on what's available locally, so this isn't a comparison of wealth between cities. It's about the differences within each one.
Tool: custom TypeScript code to plot station coordinates and colour them by their local data, over OpenStreetMap/CARTO street maps. Rendered in SVG
All 21 maps, station rankings and sources: https://dailymetro.live/richest-stations/en/
These describe the neighbourhoods around the stations, not the passengers.
