This camera is amazing !

u/Drewzik 14h ago
The photographer and the lens are really what make the difference. Not the camera.
12
u/Ishimuro 14h ago
to be fair: The camera and therefore autofocus matter considerably more in this challangeing setting than normal

Wouldn't a better option be to set the focus on a specific point and then set the camera to burst mode, rather than relying on autofocus?

u/RulerOfWax 13h ago
That's one reason why having the stick in the way to force the dogs to jump is so useful. The photographer can pre-focus on the stick and only take pictures while the dog is in the right spot. That also makes the other pictures without sticks in the way harder to take and then you are relying on autofocus more

u/TheJzoli 13h ago
I feel like autofocus would be too slow for this. Setting the focus manually definitely seems more likely.

When have you last used a camera with autofocus? As long as it tries to focus at the right point it is amazingly fast nowadays

There's probably a bit of photoshop cleanup as well, getting rid of any dirt on the dog, imperfections, etc.

Nah, this kinda shit needs a modern mirrorless or you are going to be at it for days.

What kind of lens can get these photos and quality? I have Canon dslr and looking for a good lens to take these types of photos. Please help, thank you.

u/Earguy 10h ago
My guess is the 70-200mm f2.8L. You need the larger aperture to get the background out of focus, and you need the focal length the be that far away from the jump point.
1
u/kapitaalH 10h ago
The first shot is a black lens so not easy to see what that is. Shot 3 is a big fat white lens, so looks like the 70-200 2.8. Shot 4 looks thinner so might be the f4 rather than 2.8? Not sure why a photographer would have both those in their bag though feels like a waste if you have the 2.8

u/kapitaalH 9h ago
Thinking about this the f4L might be ok for this. Shooting wide open might make your depth of field so small and with a moving target be hard to get right. The background is some distance away so f4 should be decent to get that separation.

I love all of this, but there's something about Weimaraners that has them looking super intense while at the same exact instant wondering if they left the stove on.

These pics are great!
You really have good technique with the zoom and the shallow depth of field but I'm sure that was no accident.
Great idea too!
