Hoops Discussion Dusty May

I really think we hit on an elite coach here, that ATO play to try and send it to OT was actually insane. I’m excited to see what he can do with an actual roster, he runs a very modern scheme which means we will need to get better shooters.

I’m a returning Mavs fan after 2 years of crying everyday over that one trade but anywho…where do i watch the Mavs game if i live in Dallas this season? I’m optimistic over our young core with a Kyrie…I have most streaming services including Youtube TV with league pass but i remember i couldn’t watch very many games there.

Cousins knows that injury grind better than most. Good to hear someone talk about the mental side of it and not just the knee.

Misc. Discussion What’s going on with Morez?

Anyone else suspicious of what’s going on with Morez? He got injured in summer league and has barely played any minutes this preseason. Out again tonight. Mavs keep saying it’s just soreness, but it’s hard to buy that. Worried he’s already injury prone before even playing an NBA game. You may say Mavs are just being EXTREMELY cautious, but why? Players play through soreness all the time and he’s losing valuable minutes. If he can’t play through soreness that’s concerning in itself.

Misc. Discussion Any updates on if the Mavericks will make a roster move to keep Dwight Powell?

I read that there were 3 teams over the 15 player limit that still had to make moves, the Lakers, the Grizzlies, and the Bucks. Are the mavericks theoretically one of these teams if they are trying to make room for Dwight?

Hoops Discussion Asking Mavs fans of all generations!

Hey Mavericks fans, so I’m making a video on each franchise’s biggest upset (when they were not expected to win) and each franchise’s biggest choke (sorry if that strikes a chord). I have my guesses for each but I wanted to ask actual Mavs fans to see what you guys think and if you have better answers that I should look at.

I'm considering an upset strictly as when that team was not supposed to win or were big underdogs and won. A choke can either be when your team was expected to win and underperformed, or blew a big lead in an important game or in the playoffs (something around those lines). It can also be a blown playoff lead (example: 3-1 lead)

Let me know what you guys think, I will link the video here when it’s done. Good luck to you guys this season!!

News [Clark] The ‘most important person’ in bringing NBA games back to China? Patrick Dumont

Thumbnail

MACAU — Five years ago, Patrick Dumont came to the NBA with a pitch.

Dumont, then Las Vegas Sands Corp. chief operating officer, wanted the league to resume preseason games in China, whose relationship with the NBA was strained in October 2019 after former Houston Rockets executive Daryl Morey publicly expressed support for pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

The social media post Morey sent — an image that read, “Fight For Freedom Stand With Hong Kong” — was so poorly received in China that players for the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets watched posters of their faces being torn down while they were in the country to play each other. Tencent, the NBA’s digital rights holder in China, yanked Rockets games off the air, and China Central Television, the state-run television broadcaster, refused to show games. Chinese officials were so furious that they called for Morey to be fired.

The NBA, which began regularly playing preseason games in China in 2004, released an initial response expressing regret for offending Chinese fans. U.S. lawmakers from both parties, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, crushed the NBA, saying the league had “caved to Chinese government demands for contrition.” LeBron James’ comments about freedom of speech and its “negative” ramifications were widely criticized. Commissioner Adam Silver said in February 2020 that the league would likely lose “hundreds of millions of dollars” because of the rift.

As bad as the relationship between the NBA and China seemed then, Dumont believed it wasn’t irreparable. He sat down with NBA officials only two years after the initial fallout and presented his idea for a way back in. He invited the NBA to Macau, a special administrative region of China where Sands owns five casinos and resorts.

Gambling has long been the backbone of Macau’s economy, but in the last half-decade, there has been a push to invest in other industries. Concessionaires — companies allowed to operate casinos in Macau, such as Sands — have agreed to invest heavily in outside entertainment, which is part of what motivated Dumont to approach the NBA about resuscitating the China Games. Executives from the company “met repeatedly with Chinese and Macau officials and hosted events celebrating ‘one country two systems,’ Beijing’s term for its governance of Hong Kong and Macau,” according to The New York Times.

Misc. Discussion With the season officially begininng next week, how do you feel?

How do you feel being a Mavs fan now? Is there any excitement or hope? Or is it just cautious optimism and curiosity for this franchise's future?

For me, I'm hoping this season allows us to at least be a play-in team, and by next season we can really start going. Everything feels so fresh and new, it's exciting and scary all at the same time.

Really curious to hear how everyone's feeling about this team in general. I love the community and players, and I think this season I'm ready to start watching full games instead of keeping up with updates here and there.

Hoops Discussion The Dwight situation

Post image
66 Upvotes

I’m going to be really honest I REALLY don’t want to lose moussa just to bring on Dwight. If anything just let Dwight go it would be a HUGE mistake waiving someone with that much potential in moussa especially when Morez isn’t ready to play the 5 yet. Unless we waive and stretch Martin which I also don’t like as an option.

It’s actually amazing how much talent he was able to bring in with a single offseason(Morez, Lawal, Zacc) and being able to nab Sergio at 25 will go down as one of the best picks of the draft.

Misc. Discussion IM SO HAPPY KYRIE IS BACK

That is all. I miss Luka and I was never the biggest Kyrie supporter after they traded Luka away… but he’s a 🐐 and he’s a Mav and I think him and Coop are going to go OFF this year. I know it’s preseason, but watching them work against the Rockets…. 👀🔥💯

News [Hollinger]: Why Warriors, Mavs and others will miss out on West’s playoff field: NBA predictions

Thumbnail
nytimes.com
14 Upvotes

The talent here is arguably playoff-caliber, or at least Play-In caliber, but the Mavs still face some headwinds given how poorly the pieces fit and the likelihood that a couple of veterans, most notably Kyrie Irving, are sent out for future assets.

The good news is that the Mavs have a tentpole star in Cooper Flagg, a big wing who can handle and create but whose efficiency left a lot to be desired as a rookie. Even a modest shooting improvement could make a huge difference after he shot just 29.5 percent from 3 and had a 54.8 true-shooting percentage last season. If he can make opponents think twice about conceding jumpers, he will be a massive problem.

Playing next to a real point guard in Irving surely will help. Last season, Dallas seemed committed to making Flagg’s life as difficult as possible via lineups short on both shooting and ballhandling. Now, Irving is coming back from a torn ACL and is in the final year of his deal at age 34. In Dallas’ position, letting him have a good half-year and then trading him for assets and/or young talent seems like the smart play.

Otherwise, the Mavs’ roster is almost laughably tilted toward big forwards. I only count four guards on the entire roster, one of whom (Irving) may not be here all season and another (Marcus Sasser) who is unlikely to play much.

Hoops Discussion How many minutes will Larrea get this season?

I am wondering if you all think if Sergio Larrea will get significant minutes this season?

On one side it is his rookie season so that playa against him.

On the other side… besides Kyrie taking over PG duties - we don’t really have another primarily/pass oriented guard.

Is there a world where where start Larrea as PG and Kyrie as a SG in this season?

So - what is your expectation regarding minutes for Larrea this season?
