OPINION Weekly Discussion Thread: “Are we starting to see TI’s vision? Are these the guys who can best carry it out?”
This week’s discussion topic thanks to u/russell_has_two_Ls
We have witnessed 3 preseason games with the new look Grizzlies. While we’ve barely seen the starters in the second half, I think we have a decent idea of what we can expect from our primary and secondary rotations.
Boozer looking more league ready than many expected. Edey looking slimmer and more athletic as he shakes off the rust. GG making people wonder if he’s 6 man material or deserving of starter minutes. Jerome running around like he can get buckets on demand.
But there’s still 2 guys to cut, Beef Stew with a question mark on his recovery, and 10 days to regular season.
Is this TI’s year to prove his vision? What does the roster lack? What’s the ceiling this year? Who would you cut? What kind of growth do you need to see this season?
I dunno, that’s for you to yap about here…

FACTS Asking Grizzlies fans of all generations!
Hey Grizzlies fans, so I’m making a video on each franchise’s biggest upset (when they were not expected to win) and each franchise’s biggest choke (sorry if that strikes a chord). I have my guesses for each but I wanted to ask actual Grizzlies fans to see what you guys think and if you have better answers that I should look at.
I'm considering an upset strictly as when that team was not supposed to win or were big underdogs and won. A choke can either be when your team was expected to win and underperformed, or blew a big lead in an important game or in the playoffs (something around those lines). It can also be a blown playoff lead (example: 3-1 lead)
Let me know what you guys think, I will link the video here when it’s done. Good luck to you guys this season!!

OPINION Remember, Cam Boozer is not immune to the rookie wall.
Starting to see a lot of talk about minutes already, and how the lack of them will be the only thing holding him back.
This to me sounds dangerous.
The goal is not for him to get max minutes so he can be competitive in the ROY race. It is for him and the team to find a good balance that keeps everyone healthy and the team winning.
Even if you're as NBA ready as Boozer is, the amount of games, the travelling, and everything else can still creep up on you and knock you on your ass.
He can still have a massive impact without playing massive minutes every game and overexerting himself. Eyes on the championship prize.

MISCELLANEOUS What Sasuke Uchiha would average on the Grizzlies this upcoming season (according to AI)
I saw a mobile game ad of Sasuke playing ball so made me think of what his averages on the Grizz would be 😄
------------------------------------------------------
Points : 120.0 PPG
Sasuke can shoot 100% from anywhere on the floor by using the Sharingan to copy Stephen Curry’s exact mechanics. Every Grizzlies possession would take exactly 1 second: Sasuke teleports (Amenotejikara) to the opposing 3-point line, shoots, and hits nothing but net. If he takes just 40 shots a game, he hits 120 points easily.
Assists: 30.0 APG
The only reason his scoring drops is if he gets bored. With predictive sight, he can throw blind, full-court passes right into the hands of a teammate under the basket before the defense even realizes the ball is in play.
Rebounds: 0.0 RPG
Sasuke would have exactly zero rebounds. Why? Because nobody on the other team would ever miss a shot—they would never get a shot off in the first place. Every opposing possession would end in a steal or a block.
Steals : 45.0 SPG
Armed with the Body Flicker Technique (lightning-fast movement), Sasuke would literally snatch the ball directly out of the opposing point guard's hands the exact millisecond it is inbound. He'd have 10 steals in the first two minutes of the game.
Blocks: 25.0 BPG
If an opponent somehow manages to shoot, Sasuke can just expand a massive, glowing, unbreakable Susanoo ribcage in front of the rim. The ball would bounce off a giant samurai phantom every single time.
Minutes: 12.0 MPG
Head coach Tuomas Iisalo would bench Sasuke by the end of the first quarter because the Grizzlies would already be leading 110 to 0. Sasuke would spent the rest of the game sitting on the bench in a towel, staring broodingly into the distance.

QUALITY Cam Boozer: by the numbers (from someone who admittedly wanted us to draft someone else)
You know ya girl loves her some stats. While we have some days to wait around on the next game, we can step back, make some evaluations and maybe some predictions. Here are the relevant numbers from the youngest rookie in the NBA, going back to his single year at Duke for context:
[• stats at Duke @ 33.5 minutes per game •]
22.5 PTS \ 10.2 REB \ 4.1 AST \ 55.6 FG% \ 39.1 3P% \ 78.9 FT% \ 1.4 STL \ 1.7 PF \ 2.5 TO
[• summer league stats @ 29.5 minutes per game •]
18.5 PTS \ 8.0 REB \ 3.7 AST \ 45.2 FG% \ 33.3 3P% \ 77.3 FT% \ 1.8 STL \ 3.2 PF \ 3.3 TO
[• preseason stats based on per 36 minutes •]
25.2 PTS \ 10.2 REB \ 6.1 AST \ 57.1 FG% \ 28.6 3P% \ 78.6 FT% \ 1.4 STL \ 1.7 PF \ 2.0 TO
...
[• CAVEATS •]
1.) These are obviously not the same number of minutes played in each batch and, thus, not a completely level comparison. Having said that, it's not terribly difficult to see the consistency here.
2.) Expected minutes. Last season, of players who played 20 or more games, know how many of them played 30 or more minutes a game? EXACTLY ONE. That was Jaren who clocked in 30.7 minutes a night. Ja logged 28.5, Santi was a shade under 28 minutes, Jaylen Wells was next at 26.4... Zach Edey played nearly 26 minutes a night during his 11 game stretch though, to be fair, that's an average dragged down by that one game where he only played 6 minutes. Across the ten games, his average was nearly 28 minutes a night.
Point being: T.I.'s system doesn't have people playing over 30 minutes a night. So it's unlikely that Cam gets more than the 29.5 minutes he averaged during SL.
[• EXPECTATIONS •]
By the numbers, it's looking pretty good for him. We can reasonably expect to see him average about 18 ppg. It's Zach Edey's job is to pull down rebounds so it will probably be difficult for Cam to average 10 boards a night but 8 rebounds is attainable. If he managed to pull down 9 a night, that would be enough for him to be a top-20 rebounder. 6 or 7 assists would be reasonable given who he's surrounded by; if he's ambitious, he could average 8 or 9.
What's it all mean?
Cooper Flagg averaged 21.0/6.7/4.5. While it will likely be tough for Cam to score 21 points a game (tough... but not impossible; it depends entirely upon what his usage looks like as the season goes on). Let's say Cam averages 18/8/5, numbers you figure would be lower than he's actually capable of... those are RotY numbers.
Not saying he wins it outright before the season starts but he's got a lot of advantages going in: Peterson and Dybantsa are on teams where there are several other scorers who expect to get theirs. Caleb Wilson has it a little easier than they do but not by much. I figure that the other 3 of the top 4 will all have pretty similar point totals while Wilson has notably higher rebounds than they do but maybe not as much as Cam. Depends on minutes per game. Cam probably leads them all in assists. And definitely in +/-. His SL assist totals were down but he was also surrounded by less reliable shooters. Those assists totals will trend up simply by virtue of being around more accurate shooters. Even higher as they build chemistry (the dark horse for RotY is Yaxel, simply because I don't put it past the Warriors to help him stat-pad his way to the award).
This is something to be excited about, for sure.

FACTS El Unicornio Dorado
Floor: lanky solid defender with minimal offensive impact
Ceiling: Mexican 6’9 Scottie Pippen S[r/Kawhi](r/Kawhi) Hybrid
I don’t like to over emphasize body measurements when I’m babbling incoherently online about basketball. For one it gets to a point with some people where it comes off almost fetishistic, but also because some guys can be built like an absolute basketball godking and still not have the mentality or skills to put it all together.
But Karim feels like he could be a unicorn, especially with his background as a professional hooper since he was 14 with an international player father.
The almost 7ft wingspan goes without saying, and the fact he’s 19 and could very possibly grow a few inches from his current 6’8 is definitely something to be excited about. But the craziest thing to me that’s been brought up here a couple times are his hands.
They are the same size as Kawhi’s, the largest of his draft class. 9.5” long and 11” wide. I don’t know how anyone can score or keep basic composure whit a footlong hand in your face.
Having to play against and with adult men overseas in a league known for its physicality and team-oriented style of play as a stand in for his late highschool and college experience is going to put him ahead of a lot of his competitors. We saw how putting him on Caleb Friday helped end a hot streak that was stealing away the game.
Idk, I am getting more excited about this guy by the day. Don’t overreact when his shooting is limited at the beginning of his career, this team is all about longterm investments. I can see him starting before we know it.
