Discussion Lorne. Please. Let them stay in ‘God’s Country’

Gillis represents a lesson Lorne keeps having to relearn — these guys will burn your house down after you invite them over then sell tickets for their fans to watch the blaze. They pay zero consequences with their audience and you are left holding the bag.

Lorne needs to stop giving them chance after chance to revive the 1990s / 1980s by offering a “conservative perspective.” These are not the same conservatives. These dudes make their bones by being bigots and them claiming they are oppressed if you tell them to stop being bigots.

Sadly, not every era can be comfortably bipartisan. And SNL isn’t going to force that to be the case

In 1975 when SNL premiered , the show which was aimed at young people would not have benefited from the perspective of a cast member who was super in favor of the Vietnam War, anti school desegregation and telling young men to get haircuts. There are just some eras where SNL’s target audience are NOT going to want to hear the crap they already hear their racist parents say over dinner.

These people when invited onto the show do stupid shit like this then go back to “God’s country” to bitch about your show and pretend as if they were the ones ostracized when in fact they keep ostracizing themselves every time you offer them an olive branch

… Stop giving them olive branches!! They just use them to bash you over the head while calling you a “libtard” the second they get back to their safe space.

Discussion Katie Zacharia says she "knows" an SNL skit mocking her performance is coming and she "does not want to see" it

Katie was interviewed by the guy that held up a "rape Melania" sign during Trmps 1st election. Katie seemed nervous during the interview. No one feels bad for her but she brought up the point we've all wondered: who will play her. In the interview she suggests she's a Scarlett Johansen type, (lol remember Brit?), but I think maybe a guy should play her instead. Which male snl player would best play her? I'm thinking maybe Che or JAJ. What do you all think?

edit: a lot of suggestions of Che playing her. I think that's a great idea.

Discussion It’s both hilarious and sad to think about how many people this sub would ‘cancelled’ from past casts

Basically 70% of the cast would be sent to hell. Bill Hader was tossing vertically challenged people around in clubs. Tracey Morgan was, well … being Tracey Morgan (🎶 astronaut joooooones 🎶). Norm MacDonald was letting everyone have it

Will Ferrell as Robert Goulet let a specific word rip. There’s an alternate timeline where none of the classic 2000s Will Ferrell movies ever get made because you got him cancelled. Even Tina and Amy said a bunch of shit that, if you’re not a hypocrite, would not fly. Basically all of the cast pre 2000? Forget about it. Straight to jail!

It’s almost like the loudest people in here have never watched the show. Complaining about jokes and words in a comedy setting is asinine

You’re probably now looking for your best altruistic cape to put on in order to take me down a peg because I’m horrible monster. Just keep in mind that you’ve been reading this on your phone that used slave labour/exploitation in order to keep the cost down. Words in a comedy setting though, right?!

After last week's episode, I think it's time to let a gay comedian like Tim Dillon host. Thoughts?

Finally. A subreddit where the top comments are calling this overly sensitive culture ridiculous, snowflakes, and the reasons we Dems lose elections.

He was funny. It was a funny monologue by a comedian.

Discussion Shane Gillis Monologue Confusion

Shane made a very weird comparison during his monologue that I can't wrap my head around. He said that in the sauna he "looks like a gas station egg". I don't understand how he could get confused for a literal egg. Maybe if the egg had a bush, I could see a resemblance, but he doesn't literally look like an egg, so it makes no sense. With all the negative press that eggs have had in the media these days (high prices, animal cruelty, etc), I don't think this was the right climate for that joke (if something so unfunny could even be called that). Was hoping there's any dairy farmers or gas station attendants on here that could shed some light on this bit or commiserate on how rude it was to make this attempt at a joke.

Discussion S52 Screen Time Breakdown by Gender

I saw a post on here comparing the total screen time of men vs. women on the cast. Obviously, there are 11 men and only 6 women, so the men have way more raw screen time, but the women's average time is also quite a bit lower. Anyway, I was bored as hell so I made this. Out of curiosity, I also found the averages without this year’s rookies and without the Weekend Update anchors. Idk, I think it's kinda interesting.

Like Kate McKinnon did with Calvin Klein, Jim Carrey for Lincoln, Taran Killam as Brad Pitt selling anything. I think Grace would be down and people would love it. Mikey or Kenan doing it would be funny as well.

Discussion It’s hilarious how many current day SNL fan are upset of Druski hosting SNL. I posted him hosting a year ago and it was taken down. Druski will bring a younger audience to SNL, enjoy.

Discussion Previously fired host ranking

How would you rank hosting jobs of folks previously fired from the show? Maybe this list has been discussed, but it's perhaps more up to date. Let me know if I left someone out!

Chris Rock

Norm Macdonald

Larry David: not technically fired, but quit before he was let go I think. Notable sketch: FBI Simulator (Kevin Roberts)

Adam Sandler: Notable sketch: Ramano Tours

Shane Gillis: Inspiration for the post 😉. Notable Sketch: Sneakers (latest, but I think his best one)

Sarah Silverman: Notable Sketch: Forgotten Television Gems (Supportive Women)

Damon Wayans

Chris Farley

Robert Downey Jr: Notable sketch: Cobras and Panthers (maybe it could be Norm's honorary sketch on the list lol)

I pulled all these sketches from memory so as to highlight which ones were more classic /standouts, but I probably missed good one somewhere.

Personally I'd put Larry David at the top as there are quite a few sketches from his episodes that I go back to. Norm is one of the best greatest, but I feel like his monolog was the best part. I thought Sandler was also very solid.

Musical Guest Rasolía rocked!

I had heard about Rosalía but never took the plunge into her music until her appearance over the weekend. Now I’ve been through her discography and I’m hooked. Shoutout to whoever is booking the musical guests this year. Aside from Katseye, it’s been great!

Anyone else “discover” a musical guest/s through SNL?

Discussion Rosalia, My Lord!

Something positive from the last show. Can we talk about Rosalia's performances? My goodness, she has such vocal talent. And her stage presence was captivating.

Reliquia was amazing. Magnolias was even better. Reading the translated lyrics of Magnolias had me tears listing to it again.

Did anyone watch knowing what to expect? I've heard her tour this year was top notch. The musical guests are such an important part of SNL and they have been delivering.

I've been listing to Rosalia since the show and I have SNL to thank for that. Brava!
