As Kerala’s purchasing power increases, the number of vehicles on our roads continues to grow. With NH 66 being developed into a six-lane highway, our infrastructure is improving, but are our driving culture and road safety awareness keeping pace?
Reckless driving, wrong-side driving, dangerous overtaking and poor lane discipline remain serious concerns. Wider roads alone cannot guarantee safer journeys.
Instead of focusing so heavily on making every student learn three languages, why can't we give greater importance to civic sense, road safety, traffic laws and responsible public behaviour in schools? This is not an argument against learning languages, but a call to prioritise essential life skills.
We must also strengthen driving licence procedures by properly assessing practical driving skills and knowledge of traffic rules.
TL;DR: Kerala needs better roads, but it also needs better road users. Road safety education, civic sense and responsible driving should become essential parts of our school curriculum.

Hey all, sharing this here for anyone who works with Malayalam fonts, whether for posters, invites, thumbnails, notices or DTP.
I kept wasting time hunting across random sites for the right font, and the ML / FML ones would turn my text into gibberish every time.
So I made a small tool for myself a couple of years ago, and recently rebuilt it properly.
It's called Kalkandam (കൽക്കണ്ടം):
- Type once and preview your text in ~700 Malayalam fonts (Unicode, MLU, FML, ML-TT, ML-KV)
- ML / FML fonts just work, the text is converted for them automatically
- Convert Unicode to ML / FML (and back) for PageMaker / Photoshop
- Save as PNG or download the font
- Type in Manglish if your phone has no Malayalam keyboard

Over the last 1.5 years, I have met 6 different doctors in 4 hospitals, all in Calicut. 5 of them for my older parents and once for my own consultation. Each of these consultations have been pre-booked weeks in advance with a specific slot given and conveyed over SMS to my phone.
But the average waiting time I had to endure has been over 40 minutes. The fastest was a Neurologist in BMH where I met him inside 15 minutes of the alloted time. The longest wait was 2 hours in a high profile speciality clinic. Mind you none of these doctoes are surgeons or had any emergency cases to attend in these slots. They were just, late.
And what is most irritating is none of them even bothered to say a sorry, when we went in. The one time the doctor was delayed for 2 hours, I had a stern word, but he shrugged and went on with his questions.
I understand this is the case across high profile hospitals across Kerala. I asked a nurse who was once feeling a bit guilty to make so many people wait, she told me the booking algorithm is so designed to ensure the doctor does not wait for a patient, even for a minute, how much the patient waits, no body cares.
Why is this so prevelant here. I have lived in other countries and other cities, this was never the case. Appointments are valued and even if they are late for any reason, they atleast tender an apology
Why in Kerala is patients time given so little respect?
Have any of you faced this? Thoughts?

Moderate rain is very likely across most parts of KL on Thu, with heavier showers along the eastern hills.
Widespread light to moderate showers will continue across the state through Fri and Sat.
Rainfall begins to ease on Sun, with light showers lingering over central and northern KL.

Hi everyone,
I’m currently processing a home loan with HDFC Bank and wanted to understand how the property insurance requirement works, particularly for a house that is still under construction.
My offer letter has the following clause under 9(A):
“The borrower undertakes to insure the property for full reconstruction value and assign the policy in favour of HDFC Bank Ltd. You can avail property insurance from any insurance company of your choice. Customer's participation in this policy through us is entirely voluntary.”
My situation is slightly different from a typical home loan:
My question is:
Does HDFC require me to take property insurance before the loan is disbursed, even though the house is still under construction?
If anyone has experience with HDFC home loans for construction/completion, I'd especially like to know:
I'm not looking for life insurance/loan protection insurance. My question is specifically about the property insurance mentioned in Clause 9(A).
Any experience with HDFC construction/completion loans would be really helpful. Thanks!
