What do we know about Bond's mother's family?

• Upvotes

The traditional Bond mythos fleshes out his dad's side way more than his mom's. We know that his dad Andrew was Scottish, Skyfall Lodge in the Highlands is the Bond ancestral manor, James' guardian after the death of his parents was his paternal aunt Charmian, and I believe there was an uncle in the mix as well. But what do we know about his mother Monique's family, the Delacroixs in Switzerland? Did she have siblings or living parents when she died? If James is the last surviving Delacroix, did he inherit his maternal grandparents' estate? Just wondering if any published material ever touched on this.

Licence To Kil...dare - We love a Timothy Dalton reference.

They would do an amazing theme song imo. Fun shirt regardless

What is wrong with Spectre? I liked it.

Just finished watching Spectre and I found it to be almost perfect. Sure, Skyfall’s better, but I found this movie to be better than Casino Royale.
The torture scene sure does have its flaws but that’s about it. What is wrong with this movie? Genuinely.

At school, I have a wood-art workshop where we’re given wooden boards; we sand them down and then can either trace drawings onto them or create our own—I’m currently tracing these James Bond designs.

We’re making a jewelry box; I still need to do one drawing. I’ll provide an update once I’ve finished the drawing and the box has been glued together.

Villeuneve Talks About Bond 26 on Empire: “I thought, ‘When it’s done, I need a very powerful rocket to pull me away from Arrakis.’ When I was asked to do the next Bond, I said: ‘Okay, this is what I need.’”

I don't know about you guys but I love the way he talks about Bond. Calling it sacred territory, an honor... a tradition to be honored and a Powerful Rocket to pull him away from Dune.

Maybe on the whole issue of this magazine he talks more about it.

Josh O'Connor would be a perfect Bond.

Post image

This seems to be a really unpopular opinion within the community, but I think Josh O'Connor would be an absolutely perfect pick for the next 007. Especially if they went with the bold choice, and decided to set the new films in the 1950's, as per the novels, which I think would be the obviously right thing to do.

The common critique seems to be that he's too soft and he's got big ears. But he's and actor, and a demonstrably good one at that. I mean look at him. Distinctly British looking, he's got ruggedness, charisma, presence, and as I already mentioned, the acting chops. All he needs to do is build a bit of muscle and he's good to go. He's even reminiscent of Hoagy Carmichael, which is who Fleming described Bond to look like. With a touch of Lazenbyesque quality. I think he's a way more interesting choice than any of the "classically chiseled" options that have been tossed around here and elsewhere.

Even his name is perfect, Connery -> O'Connor.

Is there any Bond aficionado here who agrees?

Villeneuve Gun Barrel - A Dream

I’ve been mulling over Bond 26 a lot lately, and last night I had an actual Bond 26 dream.

It was Jack Lowden as Bond, and all I can really recall is that he was walking under grim looking arches late at night in a turtleneck and long coat and the camera switched to a view from the side as he walked through a dimly-lit tunnel.

As he continued walking, there were holes in the wall that you could see through and as he walked by them it created the Gun Barrel oval walk.

There was a noise, similar to a magazine being loaded into a gun.

He turned and shot and the whole arch was lit for a split second by the gunshot. Dead silence.

Then the LED billboard just flickered above him with the name of the film. It was nonsensical letters that I can’t pinpoint.

It was very noir detective. Almost similar to the video game Max Payne.

It was cool.

Just thought I’d share.

Sometimes they use someone else for an scene because the main actor was not easily available.

Goldfinger walking down some stairs

James Bond Discussion Series #26 — The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)

Back again with another Bond-related discussion — although today we're doing something a little different. We're talking about The Thomas Crown Affair (1999), starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.

Now, I know this technically isn't a James Bond movie, but since Pierce Brosnan played 007, I thought it would be interesting to discuss another one of his films. 😂

The movie follows Thomas Crown, a wealthy and sophisticated businessman who steals a priceless painting from a museum. Catherine Banning, an insurance investigator, is brought in to investigate the theft, leading to a game of cat and mouse between the two.

With its stylish atmosphere, clever heist, mystery, and chemistry between the leads, The Thomas Crown Affair offers a different look at Brosnan outside of his role as James Bond.

What are your thoughts on The Thomas Crown Affair?

  • What do you most like about the film?

  • What do you most dislike about the film?

  • What do you think of Pierce Brosnan's performance as Thomas Crown?

  • What do you think of Rene Russo's performance as Catherine Banning?

  • What do you think of the chemistry between the two leads?

  • What do you think of the heist and mystery elements?

  • What do you think of the film's style, music, and overall atmosphere?

  • How does Pierce Brosnan's portrayal of Thomas Crown compare to his portrayal of James Bond?

  • Have you seen the original 1968 version, and if so, how does it compare to the 1999 remake?

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts and opinions.

And yes, I know this technically isn't part of the James Bond film series. Consider this a little Bond-related bonus discussion. 😂

One quick note: I'm posting from a different account, so some of you might recognize me from my other Bond discussions!

Fleming novels - 1960s Turkish editions

Meant to share these awhile ago; was in Turkey and stumbled into a used bookstore in Büyükada (of the Princes Islands off of Istanbul), and found these little gems.

Printed in 1965.

First book “Dokuz Canli Adam” is Live and Let Die (the translation is The Man with Nine Lives)

Second book Royal Kumarhanesi is Casino Royale (translation is Royal Casino)

Third book “Rusyadan Sevgiletle” is From Russian with Love (translation is With love from Russia)

They’re all pretty beat up, Casino Royale is missing its back cover, each book has various written notes and highlighted passages. But overall it was find to find these while randomly browsing this shelves.

What is your favorite Bond related advert/Commercial/Trailer?

My absolute favorite Bond ad has to be the Heineken for Skyfall. It's not just a standard ad with a logo on screen. This one actually feels like a mini film. It's got the snow, the trains, the action and Daniel Craig doing what he does best, being Bond. There's Bérénice Marlohe in there too providing that very typical Bond girl touch. It really does capture the feel of Skyfall perfectly.

I've seen a fair few Bond trailers, a fair few drink trailers/commercials and game promos. Some are good. Some are pretty cool. This one? That one genuinely feels like it belongs in the film. It's not a commercial for a drink at all. It's like a story. I was watching it and I thought "this is peak Bond advertising" It's not all about being flashy. It has purpose, it has style and it has that Bond attitude.

(Also who doesn't love a surprise appearance from our dearest Dr No, a brilliant nod to the past if you ask me).

So now i ask, whats your favorite and why? Any answers welcome.

Sean Connery’s weight gain could have been a great way to show how he had deteriorated after what happened at the end of the OHMSS. DAF should have been darker and more serious with Bond emotionally broken. It would have made for a much more powerful final outing for Connery as 007.

An ETON YES as YOUNG BOND and SILVERFIN hit Eton College for an apt photoshoot!

"The smell and noise and confusion of a hallway full of schoolboys can be quite awful at twenty past seven in the morning."

- SILVERFIN | Charlie Higson

An ETON YES! as YOUNG BOND actor Isaac Rouse hits 007's school for a sharply attired SILVERFIN photoshoot!

As BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS gear up for the imminent launch of their lavish new audio adaptation of Charlie Higson's YOUNG BOND novel SILVERFIN, the team took their fledgling spy for a 1930s minded photo call at Eton, Windsor.

“Obviously, we were always going to do a photoshoot of our YOUNG BOND actor in character, and it struck me early on that the very best thing we could do would be to do it at Eton College, with our Bond in period-accurate ‘lower boy’ uniform."

Robert Valentine | Producer, SILVERFIN

With costuming by Savannah Blum, the BIG FINISH team made the most of the historical backdrop, as does Mr. Rouse when nailing the period, world and character of the 1930s pinned SILVERFIN.

“I thought it was way too ambitious and could never be pulled off: sourcing the costume, getting permission from Eton College, and assembling the whole caboodle in one place on one specific day. But I’m delighted to say I was wrong."

Barnaby Edwards | Director & Writer, SILVERFIN

The brand new sixteen-part audio drama of the 2005 YOUNG BOND adventure SILVERFIN will premiere from October 29 2026.

Favourite Bond Girl Pairing In A Film?

Post image

I know Christmas Jones gets a lot of criticism, but I honestly love the combination of Denise Richards and Sophie Marceau in The World Is Not Enough.

Which Bond girls pairing would you pick?
